What to buy? New imac or MacPro/Apogee? Does anyone know? Please help!
So I'm running Logic Pro & Pro Tools.
I use a
15' MacBook Pro
Universal Audio LA-610 Mic Pre
Yamaha MSP7 Speakers & Sub
Digidesign 003 Factory on order.
I keep getting Core Audio "Disk too slow or System Overload".
(Example-On a 23 audio track session).
I want add to my setup so I don't get so many latency issues and this problem on bigger sessions.
Where do I spend the money?
I was Looking at the new imacs? The 24" 2.8GHz or should I go a MacPro?
I wanted to buy a bigger screen too. So maybe I spend a little more money and get a whole new computer for my studio instead of using my MacBook Pro.
Or just buy a bigger screen and spend the money on memory?
Do I spend it on Apogee? If so what should I buy?
Can someone please give me some Pro advice?

Well I have some external hard drives OWC/Lacie etc 400 & 800.
I have that setup going.
I'm basically recording my solo album and also getting into more TV spots & Trailer/Film music.
Using Stylus/Ivory/Philharmonic strings etc....
So I'm doing what they say and recording to external drives.
I guess the imac isn't a good option as I need to be able to update my system.
To start to get into more of a Pro Arena should I look at the Apogee Symphony mobile setup or the Ensemble?
More memory?
What else is going to give me the power to make this music without getting inot latency & coreaudio problems?
Really appreciate the help guys!

My hard drive died last week, and I needed to install a new one. Previously, I was able to save a .doc with text and inserted photo to .pdf and then to .jpg. Now I can get the .pdf but can't determine what to do to convert to .jpg. Does anyone know ?
Rather than do that, which means starting over from scratch, losing all your edits, organisation and so on, why not simply use iPhoto Library Manager to revert the Library to the older version? Easier, less destructive.

If you really want to start over: you can access the Originals folder simply by going to your Pictures Folder and finding the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed. -
I'm moving to Canada shortly and want to take my UK bought Imac along. Does anyone know if there are any problems with power differences. I havent managed to find a specific power adapter for this yet so wanted to get some advice. Thanks
To update your phone requires using the latest version of iTunes, on your computer, as well as Internet access. The update to iOS 5.0 or higher is an erase/restore deal, so you not only have to make sure all of the content, currently on your phone, is on your computer and accessible, you need to update iTunes first, have Internet access, then update your phone. There is no way around this fact. You could go to an Apple store or use another computer, but you run the risk of losing all of your data it you do that.

My new imac has stopped working!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!
I turned my imac on this evening to find that after the grey apple screen, the 'Loading Mac OSX' screen comes on and then goes off and a black screen comes up.
On this black screen it says:
Login Apr 22 ntpd[148]
Can't open /var/run/ntpd.pid input/output error
Please help me, i don't know whats wrong and what to do to fix it. I had to press and hold the power button to turn it off. When i turned it back on - still the same thing.
I have only had my imac for about 4 days... don't want to have to take it back already... just as i have finished copying all my files.

Intel Imac Mac OS X (10.4.6) 2GB RAM 256MB VID RAMHello! At this point the first thing to try is to boot from the install cd/dvd. With the disk inserted hold down the "c" key at startup. Once booted run diskutility repair disk. You'll have to navigate within the installer window. If you can't get the tray open hold down the bouse button and turn it off and back on to open the tray. When I updated Firefox I have now discovered I can no longer action the 'save and quit' function when closing down Firefox! Is this a common problem and more to the point is there a solution to this?? ie, change settings or some form of patch??
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this function WAS awesome when needing certain tabs kept open.Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

Does anyone know what driver I need to download for my shuffle to work?

Together the agent and I discovered that my Toshiba laptop does not have the drivers needed in order for the ipod to be recognized. Without said driver, I won't be able to use my ipod at all. She said that even with the article that Apple Support has about Toshiba laptops and ipod, that there are still kinks in it.
So, my question is this...do any of you people out there who are more computer literate than I am know what I should look for to download? The Apple agent didn't know what specific driver I should look for. If anyone knows, please help!
In the meantime, I'm going to peruse Toshiba's website and see if I can find anything.I had the same suggestion given to me by Apple... I went to my USB card manufacturer website (In my case, VIA Communications) and got some info on their forum.
The most I can understand right now (although I haven't solved my own iPod problem) is that first, you should try updating drivers by right-clicking everything individually in the Device Manager under the "USB" section, and clicking on "Update Driver." Also, make sure you have Windows Service Pack 2, and try updating all of your drivers by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ . The Toshiba website might have a driver update or a patch, also... I'd look around, anyway.
I updated my drivers (which didn't work), and then I came across a paragraph on VIA's website that says:
"Through feedback in the forums and hundreds of emails over the years, we know that technical support hot-lines for many peripheral (as in printer/scanner/camera etc) manufacturers, tell their customers to "update the drivers" or "update the controller". ... The controller cannot be updated without updating your motherboard to a motherboard that has a later revision controller. ... This is inbuilt and cannot be updated. The advice you received to update the driver or controller, probably means that they recommend that you update the VIA chipset or platform drivers. ... it may well be that the peripheral USB device you want to install is too new for your motherboard and therefore not compatible."
Basically, this means that if it doesn't work after the driver update, it may not be a driver issue, but a power issue.
I've been told (not by Apple) to try buying an external USB hub that plugs into the wall. I haven't yet, but as soon as I do, I'll post whether or not it works, lol. For other people, an internal USB2.0 PCI card worked, but I'm not sure if laptops work with them...

With the new iOS 7 update. Does anyone know what the setting "Bold Text" means or will do? Obviously I do know what Bold Text is. It says if you click on this, it says it will restart your iPhone. Before I do this, I'm just wanting to be sure I know what's going to happen.

-LeeIt just reboots the device and bolds the system fonts. No harm done. If you don't like it, undo the setting, it will reboot and back to as it was.

Apple does not accept trade ins. But you could certainly sell your old machine. You say "iMac Air", and there is actually no machine with that name. So get the name right and you can hunt around for what your old machine might be worth.

Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion, sometimes a gray bar appears under the Apple that begins to shade to dark as it loads OS? It does this on occasion. One time the system loaded was VERY slow and terrible colors. Pulled the plug, re-started the computer and it did not do this. As I say, its only on occasion, not every time. I noticed in the discussion page there were problems listed for 10.6 nothing for Lion.
Please advise, if possible.You should see this 4 option menu. Click on Disk Utility:
In Disk Utility, Select FIRST AID and then VERIFY and then REPAIR the disk.

The candara font in italics is turning my words into what looks like another language (it's only happening in the italics version). Does anyone know how to fix it? (I'm running OSX 10.8.3 on a new iMac and the only change I've made recently is to install MS Office for Mac 2011)
This is what the font turns it into (it's supposed to say Chrysler Building & New York Public Library). The font came with Pages which is what I'm working in. It worked before but isn't now.

Considering buying New Imac but have some applications I won't be able to use. Want to know how easy is it to use boot camp and partion drive to use windows 7. Has anyone done this and how easy is it to do? One other question. With lion coming soon will boot camp be part of it?
Lion will be out next month.
Boot camp is as simple as running the bootcamp config program that will partiion the drive and reboot. At that point you will install windows. It is a very easy process.
Lion will also have bootcamp. -
ok so i have decided to purchase the new imac.. does anyone know the steps i have to take in order to tell my iPhone to sync to the new computer?... and what is the best way to sync old G4 with new imac?

When you connect the iPhone to the new iMac, and choose to sync information from the iPhone you will be presented with options for merging the info.
When you go to sync your music you will be told that the iPhone is linked to another library, and get the option to transfer purchases, replace the music on the iPhone from this library, or cancel.
Migration assistant can be used to move many of your file over. It requires that you have an existing Mac, and a 6-pin to 6-pin Firewire cable. This article has more information on migration assistant:

Thank you for your help.When you sell your iMac, please remember that if you bought Mountain Lion upgrade at the app store, the license is not transferable and you need to erase the drive and reinstall the original system (which was most likely Snow Leopard?). If you don't do that, the buyer can never reinstall Mountain Lion because the license is tied to your Apple ID forever.

In general -
- if you've not yet talked to Apple's Tech Support, do so. If you purchased AppleCare with the machine, be sure to mention that.
- if you've been talking to Apple's Tech Support and not got resolution, give them one more try but ask to speak to a Level 2 person or a supervisor. If you got a job/ticket number at some point, refer to that on your call. If you got a case number while the machine was still under warranty, the case is still open - and, as I recall, repair should still be made under warranty.
- if you've already done that, talk to Customer Service, explain the situation, firmly ask for resolution: repair or replacement.
If there's an Apple Store near you, you can call them to set up an appointment to take your machine in. Again, if you have AppleCare be sure to mention that.
You probably already know this, but...
Being firm but polite works a lot better than being demanding and rude.
You may feel like screaming at them out of frustration; please don't do it. Remember - they, the folk you talk to, didn't do whatever went wrong with the machine. Do what you need to do in order to get them to do what you want them to do.
