What to do about duplicate iCloud accounts?

Today, I noticed duplicate birthdays in Calendar. Upon checking my Contacts.app preferences, I found that I had two iCloud accounts listed:
[email protected]
and
[email protected]
Yes, the only difference is capitalization.
I tried deleting one by clicking the minus button at the bottom of the Preferences panel, but it came back after a few moments. I then unchecked the "Enable this account" button on one of them; but, I have no idea which one I really should disable. Really, there should only be one account showing; I shouldn't have to disable either of them.
Another question, I now see that I have duplicate groups: On my Mac, and iCloud. Yes, they are both enabled in Contacts preferences. I wonder if I could and should turn off the On my Mac account or that will cause trouble. I would also like to move the iCloud group above the On my Mac; but, I don't seem able to do that.
Any suggestions on either of these two items?

> who should I call to avoid being charged?
You might want to call your credit card company and warn them Apple could present a duplicate charge and to reject it up front ...
FWIW: It took 5 months to clear a duplicate (iMac) payment they put on my card, and I got no apology or compensation of any sort.

  • Duplicate iCloud 'accounts' on contact lists - MacBook Pro

I've been having difficulties first getting my contacts to synch with all devices. So I opened up the 'contacts' application on my MacBook pro, and found a number of iCloud accounts were being recognized on my computer. I have only ever signed in one account, so these appear to be duplicates. However, apart from one of these 'duplicate' accounts that contains a large number of contacts, all other 'duplicates' appear to be empty, and are more like phantom accounts. I've attached a photo of what my sidebar looks like... If anyone has encountered this before, any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!!

It is possible to use 3 iCloud accounts with notes, but I assume you are not expecting 3 accounts, are they not your accounts.

  • How to remove duplicate iCloud accounts

Hello! I just got the iPhone 5. I set up iCloud on my phone but my contacts and calendar stuff weren't syncing, so I synced my info through iTunes
the old fashioned way. My contacts and calendar events are all good but now for some reason my mailboxes are screwed up! I somehow have multiple inboxes but I only have ONE iCloud account. Under accounts, on the Mailboxes page, it shows one account called iCloud and one called my email address (me.com). ***? What did I do and how do I reverse this? It's not the end of the world but I'd rather not have my mail all screwed up like this. My last iPhone was the 3G, this whole iCloud thing is confusing. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you tried turning notes syncing off, restarting then trying again.

  • Duplicate icloud accounts

Inadvertently, I set up two icloud ("me") accounts - one under my personal email address and another under my apple.com user id - me.com email address.  Various devices are logged into different icloud accounts which makes tracking them, etc. a guessing game.  I also bought extra storage space for icloud backups of my iPhones, iPads, etc.  Is there a way to remove one account and keep the account with the subscription for additional storage space?  I can then point all devices to one account.  Andrew

If you want, you can migrate all your devices to the same account.  Just be aware that when you sync data such as contacts and calendars from multiple devices to the same account the data is merged and the merged data will appear on all the devices.  If that's what you want, then to move each of the devices not already on the account that you want to use, go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on the device.  (If you are syncing iWork documents with iCloud, also open your iWork apps and turn off iCloud syncing and choose to keep the documents on your device.)  After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this device, not from iCloud.  Any other devices still using will not be effected by this.)  Next, sign into the iCloud account that you want to use on this device and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  Repeat this process for each device until they are all sharing the account you wish to use.

  • Contacts.app shows duplicate iCloud accounts

I have upgraded to OS X Yosemite and my Contacts app shows 4 duplicate iCloud contact sets.  When I check the preferences > accounts setting within the app, it shows 4 entries for iCloud, each for the same iCloud account.  When I try to remove any of them, it suggests I go over to Internet Accounts in System Preferences.  Within System Preferences there was only 1 iCloud account, not 4.  I removed that account from my computer yet the duplicates remain.  I can't get rid of them.  Please help!

I found a way to resolve this.
    1) Remove iCloud from your System Preferences (make sure all your iCloud content is backed up somewhere else first (via Time Machine or on another Mac)
    2) Shutdown
    3) Boot up
    4) Open up contacts app
    5) Open Preferences of Contacts and go to "Accounts"
    6) Select the rogue iCloud account and click the button in the bottom right "Edit account", this will open up system preferences and the rogue iCloud account will reappear there.  Hit the Minus button in the left sidebar to remove it.
    7) Quit System Preferences & quit Contacts app
    8) Shutdown & Boot up again
    9) Repeat steps 4-8 until all of the duplicate/rogue iCloud accounts are removed from the Contacts app.
    10) Once completely free of the duplicate/rogue iCloud accounts in Contacts app, re-enable iCloud in System Preferences.
I did this to remove 4 duplicates and now have one clean iCloud account in the Contacts app.

  • Duplicate iCloud Accounts in Mail after Yosemite Upgrade

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I now have two iCloud accounts in Mail (but not in other applications like Notes or Contacts).
Both appear under Mail/Preferences/Accounts, but when I try to delete one I get the message: "The Mail Account [email protected] is shared by other applications on this Mac. You can remove this account in Internet Accounts". Yet when I click through to Internet Accounts, only one iCloud account exists.
I have tried logging out of my iCloud account and restarting as suggested in another post. The original iCloud mail account remains whether logged in or not, but doesn't show up at all in "Internet Accounts" so I am unable to delete it.
    Appreciate any suggestions.

Hi, sorry but I didn't keep track of exactly what I did. But I think it was:
While logged into iCloud, I opened Mail/Preferences/Accounts and adjusted the username in the newer iCloud account to make it the same as the username for the original iCloud account (this one was greyed out). A warning came up asking me if I wanted two iCloud accounts with the same name. I clicked yes.
I then logged out of iCloud, and restarted my computer. Going back to Mail/Preferences/Accounts I was now able to delete the original iCloud account.
Finally, I logged back in to iCloud and the new iCloud account showed up in Mail.
Hope that helps. And that I remembered correctly!

  • HT4061 I would like to speak to someone about my Icloud account, It is different from my Iphone account and I cannot connect

I would like to speak to a representative, I have changed my phone and would like to speak to someone without hunting for my serial number.

    Hunting for it?
    It's under Settings > General > About.
Any Apple Support advisor is going to ask for that information if you need support with your device.
If it's just your Apple ID/iCloud account, they might not need that.

  • I had two backups listed in the information about my icloud account.  I thought the newest backup would have everything.  Is there any way to retrieve what I deleted?  I lost contacts, calendar events, etc.

I, apparently, mistakenly deleted an older backup to iCloud.  I thought the newest backup would have everything - the original infor + what had been saved recently.  So, I deleted the older backup.  Now it seems that contacts and calendar events have been removed from my phone and MacBook.  Is there any way to retrieve that?
    Thanks.

And actually, no I am not sure  that the contacts aren't being restored, but then overwritten by iCloud because it has more recent data.  I don't know how to find that out.
    Thanks.

  • HT201441 I bought this phone off of Craigslist, went to restore it, asked about an iCloud Account that stops me from using phone! Can't contact the buyer, as i restored the phone. What The **** Can I DO!!!!

I AM STUCK AND FEEL ROBBED BY APPLE'S NEW POLICY IN THEIR UPDATE!! I bought this phone off of Craigslist, as i've done before, and when I restored it, could not activate it becuase I don't have the previous users iCloud information! I can't contact him, can't find him, and I am Stuck!!!! If I don't have a solution, I will be totally sold off on Apple Products Totally! This ***** and I need a fix to this. I can't use my phone for all types of business I use it for!!!!!

This is not Apple's fault AT ALL. You've been ROBBED by the seller - not Apple.
This is a security feature designed to prevent stolen iOS devices from being used by thieves.
Presumably the device you bought is stolen which is why the person you bought from has magically vanished as soon as he got your money.
Lesson learned: Don't buy products when you cannot verify you are buying from the legitimate owner.

  • How can i tell what devuce logged in my icloud account and changed password

I got an email saying my password was changed. Is there anyway I can tell what phone or any other information as far as what kind of phone or anything else to that matter. I think I know who did it but how can I tell if anyone else is on my account ? I changed my password but will that kick them out of my account if they are already logged on under my name? I have the new Samsung note phone and he just got the new I phone 6.

You can get summary information about your storage in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage.  You can see all of you iCloud data on your phone from within the apps that are syncing with iCloud (mail, contacts, calendars, notes, etc.).  You can also see some of this on icloud.com.

  • I can't tell for sure if the photos on my iphone were successfully backed up in the icloud.  How can I find out what is stored in my icloud account?

I activated the icloud backup on my iphone 4s and bought an extra 10gb of space.  I clicked backup to icloud now to backup my trip photos.  I want to be able to erase the photos on my phone because I'm at max capacity and I have another week to go on my trip.  Based on the number of gb available before my attempt to do the backup and the much smaller gbs available now, I guess that the photos were backed up.  How can I confirm that?  Is there an icloud website I can log into to see exactly what has been backed up?  I do not have access to my home computer so I don't think that I can access my itunes account, and even if I could I'm not sure that would tell me anything.  Thanks for any insights you can give me.

You can go to icloud.com from your computer to see what data is in the account (other than photo stream photos and your iCloud backup), but you won't know what data may have been accessed by someone else.  If you're concerned, change your password as discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5624.  After changing your iCloud ID password, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new password.
When you delete the account it only deletes the account and your synced data from your device, not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account your data will be synced back when you sign back in.  Save you photo stream photos before deleting the account (tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll)
