What to do about my ipod gen. 5 ?

I left my ipod 5 at home yesterday. I returned to find my ipod hooked to my computer but it now has white vertical lines and the screen is now unresponsive to my touch. ive tried hard reset, restoring, etc.

Before yo go to Apple try the remaining itesm of:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
  - Try on another computer

I don't know what to do about my ipod touch, I forgot the password so I cant get in, what should I do?

Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup
    iOS: How to back up
Then restore via iTunes. The iOS device will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • What's so good about an iPod?

I have never held either a 2nd gen Nano nor 5th gen iPod nor any iPod gen.
Obvious differences aside, I'm wondering why a user with both, other than gaming and video, would use one over the other? I seek purchase guidance.
(I would ask the same contrasting questions if anyone has a PSP & iPod?
    Are there menu differences?
Is one easier to navigate to a song?
Do both have the ability to remember last point played or memorize that point for each song as does iTunes 7.
Speed of access of a song when unit is completely loaded, (no space left)?
When first turned on how long before you have a song playing?
Nano uses less battery power and recharges faster - true? has that ever been a factor as to which one you picked up?
Especially there is the issue of longevity.
Some say a flash should be fairly indestructible but the Hard Drive in the 5th generation will definitely go in time - sooner than a flash memory?
Reading discussions, it seems I'm reading much more new unit little and big failures on the 5th then the Nano. TRUE?
I believe I am also reading more formating issues with 5th gen. Can I use it on both mac and pc (like a flash card or ext. HD) without reformatting?
Besides watching a video or playing a game, what can you do with a 5th gen that you cannot with a Nano and vice verse?
Can you listen to mp3 and game simultaneously?
How good is the gaming? Better to get a Nintendo or PSP no?
How good is video viewing on 2.5" What about while riding in the passenger seat of a car during daylight etc? I assume it is better in darker environments. Any complaints or mostly praise? Would you purchase 5th gen again just because of the Video?
Is there a past discussion or url with user comments comparing and contrasting the differences between using a 2nd gen Nano and a 5th gen 30gb or 80 gb?

Menus are the same, but Video iPod has "Videos" and "Games" menus
Is one easier to navigate to a song?
Nano has a smaller wheel, so maybe a little harder for someone with large fingers (like mine)
Do both have the ability to remember last point
played or memorize that point for each song as does
    iTunes 7.
Yes. If you pause it, and it turns off, when you push play again, it comes right back to that point. When you pause it and change menu veiws, you will have to start the song over, or remember where you were.
Speed of access of a song when unit is completely
    loaded, (no space left)?
Depends on what song. Menus scroll alphabetically, or by their playlist order, or album position.
When first turned on how long before you have a song
    playing?
Again, depends on where you're playing a song from. If you turn it on and scroll down to "Shuffle Songs", it will start playing in a matter of seconds.
Nano uses less battery power and recharges faster -
true? has that ever been a factor as to which one you

Nano battery lasts longer, recharge in about 3 hrs, give or take
Especially there is the issue of longevity.

New search options, brightness/volume level controls, gaming capability.

Mac or PC. Once it's formatted for Mac, its Mac for life. A PC formatted iPod can be recognized and used by Mac
Besides watching a video or playing a game, what can
you do with a 5th gen that you cannot with a Nano and
    vice verse?
Video has bigger HD capacity. Nano has longer battery life.
Can you listen to mp3 and game simultaneously?
    Yes
How good is the gaming? Better to get a Nintendo or
    PSP no?
Graphics wise, PSP is better, also more games for PSP. iPod games are simple and just good for quick entertainment.
How good is video viewing on 2.5" What about while

etc? I assume it is better in darker environments.

Video veiwing is decent, but on a small screen, your eyes can get sore after a while. In bright sunlight it is difficult to see, but not impossible. Best veiwed in room light, or in dark with brightness control adjusted to your preference.

  • What will happen to the iPod touch 4th gen when the 6th gen comes out?

Hi I was just wondering what will happen to my ipod touch 4th gen (app updates, processing speed, price, etc.) when the 6th generation ipod comes out?
    Thanks

No body knows about the next gen of any Apple products, other than they always advance.  There are still many much older products in successful use so that should not be a problem.  My iPad original cannot use iOS 6.1.3 but it still does what I want and works great.
If you have the 4th gen, use it aa long as it meets your needs.  If it doesn't look at the options for a new one at that time.

  • Whats the difference between the 4th gen iPod touch and the new one ?

whats the difference between the 4th gen iPod touch and the new one apart from it being white?

Yeah it sadly appears to be only color, I guess Apple and thier infinate wisdom decided iPod touches dont need to be as fast as the new iPhone. If it had a5 it could do Siri:(

  • What ios system can the IPod touch 4th gen. update to

What ios system can the iPod touch 4th gen. update to?

I wouldn't buy a second-gen iPod touch at any price now, and particularly not for only $50 less than a fourth-gen model. There are far too many apps that require a version of iOS newer than what a second-gen iPod can run. Up to you, though.
    Regards.

  • What is up with the iPod nano 7th gen.  I just had a second one die. with both after only 3 weeks of useage?

what is up with the iPod nano 7th gen.  I just had a second one die.  both after only 3 weeks of useage... both dead since Jan 10th 2013.

this is an answer I just gave to someone else.
i'm going to ask you to try something I just did to fix a maybe simular problem that worked..... but I don't know why yet........make sure your iPod in plugged into your computer (mine is a Mac) and iTunes is turned on. My iPod  was  also "dead" but had been plugged into my computer for a couple of hours (but not lit up in any way).  Then (in desperation) I held down all the buttons, the on/off (on top right), the small Home botton at the bottom of the face, and the volume/pause buttons (left side).  For whatever reasons my iPod came back to life in a needs restoring mode ....and asked me to restore it in the itunes like "new'  iPod connected mode.  Since I have a Mac I also had to give permission to do a download by entering my computer password. If you have to do the same have that password ready. Then it did a restore software download.  Everything previously on the iPod was erased and had to be re-synced,  but I was just thankful to get it up and restored again.
Give this a shot and I hope it works for you.....but  why? I don't know yet, I need more questions answered.

  • My ipod 5 froze and wont work or anything and my home button doesnt work so i cant soft reset or anything does anyone know what to do about this?

my ipod 5 froze and wont work or anything and my home button doesnt work so i cant soft reset or anything does anyone know what to do about this?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Ignore the reset and when it says plae the iPod in Recovery mode
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My ipod gen 5 does not respond to touch.  It plays all by itself, the snooze button is set.  I can not get it to change because when I touch it nothing happens.  What do I do?

My ipod gen 5 does not respoind to touch.  It plays all by itself and seems to have the snooze set.  It seems to work okay but It won't respond when I touch it.  can anyone help?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • What's wrong with my iPod's Cover Flow??

I have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen, 32Gb, and recently updated to IOS 5.
Since then, the iPod's cover flow feature is extremely slow, doesn't flow smoothly, and crashes after a few (15-20) seconds.
Today I noted something else: some album covers appear pixelated and blurry, even though HD. Those covers looked just fine until now.
As a side note, I have in use 30 of the 32 Gb (that's a lot of music, I know). Could this be related? I never had those problems before IOS 5, though.
    What's wrong with my iPod?
    Thanks for your help!

so as I see it people with this problem have 3 options
    - Make all of your album art a maximum of 500X500 pixels
    - Wait for an IOS update that fixes the problem
    - Scrap ipods and buy another brand of music player
Using photoshop to do it with, it took me about an hour to resize, change, and resync all of my 1400 songs(86 albums)

  • IPod Gen 5 (late 2006), 30GB, Black, will not sync with prior iTunes or current

I have an iPod, Gen 5 (late 2006), 30GB, Black, I had kept unopened for a while (purchased in 2007 and opened it in 2008-09). I retrieved the iPod Gen 5, opened, and did sync it with my PC-Windows 7, one (1) time. I uploaded my music and it worked fine.
I obtained new music and after uploading the added music, I attached my iPod Gen 5 to the PC-Win 7, at which time a window popped open stating there was something wrong with the "data storage," requesting Win 7 to perform a system check on the "data system" or "continue without checking." I chose the latter. This caused the iTunes & PC to freeze. Nothing worked, even the Task Manager would not shut it down. The only way to unfreeze everything was to restart the computer. After searching iTunes Support, doing everything suggested, including totally uninstalling iTunes (no trace to be found) and then re-installed iTunes. Re-synced the music library and then attempted to re-sync my iPod Gen 5. Everything started all over again.
I took my iPod Gen 5 to the Apple Store - Genius Bar where an employee was able to sync the iPod Gen 5 with the Mac computer at the store. The iPod Gen 5 worked perfectly. I respectfully requested the employee to reformat/restore the iPod Gen 5 with their Mac computer, again, my iPod Gen 5 still worked.
I went home in attempt to sync my iPod Gen 5 with my Windows PC (Win 7), and again, everything froze--iTunes and the PC. I waited several weeks and searched further on Apple.com/support to seek any other answers. However, none were found. Uninstalled and re-installed iTunes 2-3 times and still kept freezing iTunes and my PC. Went back to Apple Store-Genius Bar and my iPod synced just fine with the Mac computer. Reqested to restore on site and took it home, just to have all the problems to start all over again with the PC and iTunes problems.
About two weeks ago (11/12/2011), I totally wiped clean and reformatted my full PC, re-installing Windows 7 and only my major programs. After updating my iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch Gen 4, I took a chance to re-sync my iPod Gen 5, AND IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN!!!
Is there anyone who can inform me as to why this is happening, when I was able to sync the iPod Gen 5 the very FIRST time, but after that the problems started? I know if I take the iPod back to the Apple Store, it will work for them.
It should be noted I did attempt the same procedures with my laptop computer with Window XP Home Edition, SP3. Still did the same thing.
Any help please? Thank you in advance. Other than the age of the iPod, it is "practically brand new" or has been used for about 2-3 weeks.

Everything was downloaded directly from Apple's website. I found some possible answers through "Mitch751" but cannot print out yet until I restart my computer. iPod is still attached and wanted to search while it was charging. As I mentioned, I have done everything searched and researched and even stumped the Apple Genius bar employee.
    Thank you Desmond

  • Hi, my name's Michael and I had a question about my iPod touch. I recently dropped it but I still have a warranty and Apple Support said they couldn't fix that my screen doesn't recognize my finger is on there trying to do anything?

Hi, my iPod touch was recently dropped but afterwards I called Apple Support and they told me I have a 17 day warranty for my Apple iPod Touch, so then I asked them if I could send it in to get fixed but what had happened to my iPod was that when I click the home button and try to ''Slide to Unlock" it doesn't recognize that I'm trying to do anything else the only thing that I can do is press the "Sleep" and "Home" Buttons and nothing else. Anything you can do to help me please??

Even if you were still under AppleCare warranty, it would not cover damage from a fall.
That "17 day" warranty makes no sense, though. iPods have a 1-year free AppleCare warranty for service, and 90 days for free phone support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/ipod.html
Apple can repair just about anything that might be wrong with your iPod, but it will cost you. Call, explain the problem, ask for a repair appointment at your nearest Apple Store (or get a case number and ask for instructions to mail it in for a repair), but get a firm quote on the repair cost before authorizing the repair (or mailing it in for repair).
