What to do about white, whispy smoke coming from slot where paper comes out?

After a false paper jam message (the paper was sticky from humidity and only partially left feed tray), the printer prints fine, but thin, whispy white smoke comes out with the printed sheets. I don't know if it has a smell as I have little sense of smell.
Help!
Printer is a Laser Jet 1020 bought in 2004

This is likely water vapor (steam) from humid paper and not a cause for concern.  See the page here for information.

You "do that last time"? Does that mean you already had tried this before posting? If so, I fear you may have tried other things as well...in which case, I request that you list out EVERYTHING you have already tried along with the specific results of each attempt.
Further -- "nothing happen"...as in, your BB did not reboot? Or do you mean that the reboot completed fine, but nothing changed regarding the symptoms you reported.
Please be very careful and explicit as the only information we have is what you say here...assumptions and guesses on our part are made much more difficult when there is little information provided.

  • Voice over sounds like coming from a toilet paper tube

OK, I was born in a poverty stricken area of Pennsylvania, and we used toilet paper tubes for toys.
More self-disclosure than you wanted, but during an interview, the questions did not come out very clear. I used the voice over tool, and the difference between the sound and the voice over is very noticeable. The voice over sounds "tinny" and distant.
I copied the sound tracks to make it louder and played with the pan and the volume, but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?
    Hank Kearns

I am using a Logitech USB mic. Perhaps that is
    my problem to.
OUCH! this made me wince in sympathy pains. what you need for a decent voiceover - i do this in my edit room - are some sound blankets on the floor, a sennheiser me66 in the mic stand pointing down, above and in front of he talent, going into your mixer and then into your vtr or your mac. personally, i go into my vtr and use tape so i can turn off the computers.
that usb mic isn't gonna cut it!

  • Pop & smoke coming from macbook pro. Laptop died

Anyone else experience this rather strange phenomenon?
Purely out of goodwill, I am posting for this guy who purchased from me, a macbook pro 2.53 Ghz with 4GB RAM with a fresh install of Snow Leopard on it (gave him original discs etc with it). This machine worked like a charm with ZERO hassles while it was with me. ZERO hassles and it showed not even the faintest hint of any problem for the years I owned it. I took excellent care of it and it was in pristine condition working and looking like brand new even on the date of sale. Heck it was still giving me an easy 6 hours battery life and no signs of slowing down or anything.
Anyway, when he took it from me, he texted me close to the end of the day that apparently he was using migration assistant to transfer data from his old laptop to the MBP and he was about 10 minutes into the process wherein he heard a pop and then smoke came out from the back of the MBP and the computer shut down. I am at a COMPLETE loss of words, thoughts or ideas as to what the heck he did with the computer to have resulted in this smoky outcome.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? If yes, please please respond so this kid can be helped out.
Also, for something like this, what sort of backup or coverage does Apple provide? Of course the laptop was from 2009 with no Apple Care on it. Because honestly I could've taken care of most tech issues and never expected my laptop to emit smoke and get fried like that.
Thus, I am guessing and hoping that they uncondintionally take care of this issue because this is a very rare and strange phenomenon. Also, in all its probability, it's not like the kid was running a nuclear reactor through this MBP for it to go toast like this.
Could this be a batter issue? A power supply issue or a hard disc issue?
I would appreciate if someone could let me know anything related to such a problem (or similar) if it happened to them too. Any words of advice or suggestions would be most welcome as to how best to tackle this situation. I dont' want this kid to feel cheated off his money. If he is truly telling me honestly that it happened during just a file transfer then he needs to be helped and I want to provide him whatever information I can, so he doesn't lose his money.
    Thank you for your time

    Hi Phagun,
The problem, at least as I see it is that you really don't know what caused the problem. It could have been a random failure for some unexplained reason or it could have been an accidental spill into it. You just don't know. All you have to go on is what the purchaser told you. You know that you took good care of it and had no issues with the product when you sold it.  Perhaps what you might do is gently ask the new owner to take it in and have it diagnosed and to call you and let you know what they say. It is possible that there is something simple and inexpensive to repair. At least that way you will have some factual basis from which to try and alleviate the situation.
I am certain you feel bad that this happened. Most of us would but you are not responsible for what happened to it. It is possible that it was damaged in shipment and no one noticed it. There are just too many possibilities.
There are a couple of factual itmes that were mentioned in previous posts. First of all Apple is not responsible to fix it at this point. That is a fact and there is no changing it. Warranties are limited in scope and time and the computer is well out of warranty because it is 3 years old. If you feel badly about it or feel some sort of responsbility than refund the money and take it back is all I can suggest. No manufacturer is going to cover a product that is two years out of warranty and it just isn't realistic to expect them too.
I wish I could provide you with some hope but these things happen. Nothing lasts forever and until you can be certain what happened then there is not much you can expect from Apple or folks here. We certainly can't provide you with anything more than emotional support which we are happy to do, but it won't solve the purchasers problem.
Once again, I would suggest you ask him to take it in and have it diagnosed. If he refuses that will also give you information about what may, may I say have happened.

  • What to Do with the Electric Shocks Coming from my Mac Book Pro?

    Hello there,
I have these tiny electric shocks each time my forarms come into contact around the plastic frame around the keyboard side of the notebook.
Sometimes the elecric shocks are not there. But they appear regardless of whether I'm using the grounded cable or not; regardless of which prephirals connected to the notebook; and in multiple buildings.
When I went to the reseller the electric shocks where not there.
Does Apple know about such a problem? isn't there a policy around this specific problem? I saw that other users reported the same issue on an external website.
I still have my product in its one year warranty.
    Any clue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nader

I use the 3 prong lead and I still have the tingle; but sometimes it disappear in the same place (same electric plug). How do you explain that?

  • What do you do if your Ipod Touch won't let music come out of the internal speakers?

What do I do/ I've searched the web and nothing has worked!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • HT4007 What if I buy Aperture 3 now and Aperture 4 or X comes out soon after?

Read great reviews on Aperture 3, but also understand that a new version is soon to be released.  Don't wish to invest $$$ if a new version is around the corner.

Only Apple knows the answer to that one and we are just users here.
The fact that Aperture is now being delivered by Apple via the Mac App Store at a considerably lower price than many of us paid for it before the MAS, it may be that Apple will no longer offer upgrade pricing and just release a new version beyond AP 3 at one price as a full product.
In other words, you might have to pay full price for both AP 3 and a new product AP 4 or X if it is released.

  • 2005 Macbook pro 17" 2,16 ghz smoke coming out of usb ports

I use my macbook for lots of video related stuff. (editing, rendering, capturing) Never had any problems....until...
Last night after having "shared to media browser" 3 videos edited on imovie and created a iDVD project for later burning onto DVD....this morning when I arrived to show the final cut to my colleague, it wouldn´t even turn on. Then I noticed smoke coming from one of the right side usb ports and a very scary smell!.... Took it to an Apple registered dealer and told me it could be the mother board?? Help anyone??
    CCDST

Thanks for the help...yes it is a 2006 model....i was told by the tech guy at the shop that it could be the mother board although when he opened it there was no sign of anything burnt.he then said he was going to analyze it further under the mother board to see if any component might have short circuited....then he said if it is the motherboard i should be prepared to buy a new one as a replacement mother board for the macbook pro is around 700 euros...I am in Portugal.. very dissapointing as there in no clear reason as to why this happened unless too much work on imovie and rendering videos is too much...and it cost me 2700 euros at the time....(2006)

  • Red glow coming from superdrive

this may be a stupid question but here goes. i have looked through the forums, and googled this and have yet to find any mention of whether or not it's ok for there to be a red light (glow) coming from my superdrive when i'm burning. does this indicate a problem, or is this normal? i know about the red light coming from the headphone jack, and how that was a semi-issue, so i figured this might be a problem as well.

The optical drive uses a 650 nm laser to burn discs - that laser is red in color (deep red, actually) and you are seeing reflected light from it. Normally, a set of felt pads block the opening of the superdrive and prevent light from escaping - these pads may be worn/damaged on your drive.

  • What is that drum roll sound that comes out of nowhere?

I cannot figure out where this irritating drum roll flourish sound is coming from on my iPad air?
It happens for no reason... even when the iPad is turned off.  It sounds like a snare drum hitting about 4 rolls with a cymbal.  VERY irritating.
I've checked through all the settings.  I used to get alerts from the BBC news app - but that's not showing up on the settings.
Any idea where to check for this?
    Thanks...

I can't find it a drum roll in sounds either. If you can't find it in notification center it may not be a alert but a noise that shouldn't be there. First double click the home button and swipe all the apps up to close to make sure the noise isn't coming from there. Next comes a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons 10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds till your iPad starts on it's own. Next comes reset all settings.

  • Can I open my G5 to see where the squeaking is coming from?

I made an earlier post about the squeaking noise coming from my G5. Thanks to everyone who tried to help but the sound isn't an electronic squeak, its an aucostic one, such as squeaking wheel or chair. I was wondering while the computer is on, if I could take off the side panel (leaving the see through one on) to see where the noise is coming from. Can you do this or will it shut down?

This squeaking is a result of the pull out fan assembly shaking when turning. The plastic portion when the fan plugs in/pull out gets slightly shaken loose during delivery. Just shutdown you Mac, open it and pull out the fan (in front of the RAM) and then just firmly but not to hard push the fan assembly back in. Just make sure it is in there nice and good.
I had the same thing happen to me when I first got my G5. It took me couple weeks to figure out where the squeak was coming from. One more thing, just be sure to always have a can of compressed air handy because the G5 has a real good tendency to suck in dust from the room. Clean your G5 around every two months to keep it clear of dust.

What do you do with your old iPhone when a new one comes out? Is there some trade-in thing or something? Do I just pay full price for the new iPhone? Does AT&T have a trade-in policy or something?

No trade-in. I just sell mine [on ebay] a few weeks before the newer version comes out, or right after. they go for quite a bit if they are in nice condition.
