What to do after erase and sync?

I plugged my ipad into itunes and was greeted with an erase and sync message.  Not aware of the possibility of multiple libraries or the inability to log onto mulitple computers I hit no, but couldn't get my ipad to sync or add any of the new stuff I had loaded onto itunes (music and movies).  I finally loaded and said yes to erase and sync.  And it did erase and sync my pad.  I got the new stuff on it and lost the old stuff.  I went back to my laptop that I am no longer using and found a lot of the deleted stuff (apps, pdf, movies etc).  Is there a way to get the stuff from the one itunes on the old windows laptop to the new mac itunes I want to use from now on?  I thought I could authorize more than one computer.  I'm in over my head.  Do I have to burn the laptop pdfs, movies etc to a thumbdrive and walk it over to the mac or is there a way to merge the two itunes?  I used the same user id and password so I don't know how these two things exist as separate entities.

You can authorize up to 5 computers, burt you can automatically sync your iPad with only one iTunes library. However, you can manage your iPad with multiple computers as long as you have set the device to "Manually manage music." This explains how:  Using iPad or iPod with Multiple Computers:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202
If you want to put all the old stuff on your Mac, just drag the media from your old PC to an external hard disk or thumb drive and then drag it into the iTunes library on your Mac.
Or, if you go the manually manage route and pout the old media on your iPad, you can use a 3rd party utility like http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/ to copy the media from your iPad to iTunes on your Mac.
You can download apps and iBooks (and music if you're in the US) again at no charge.  This explains how: Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Once you get everything on one computer, you can go back to automatic syncing.
BTW:  All these inconveniences will go away when iOS 5 and the iCloud are released "this fall".  Check it out here:  http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/

  • What happen next, after erase and lock screen of macbook pro?

Hi, I just lost my macbook pro and I have some personal data on it. I read some articles who said that Erase mac will delete whole data. When I erased my Macbook pro from Web Interface https://www.icloud.com it ask me to enter 6 digits passcode I entered and It also lock my Macbook pro which I wasn't select explicitly. Now its showing me status "Pending: Erase Mac" and both Erase mac and lock in disable mode.I also checked option "Notify me when found". Now my questions are these.
If user connect to internet, it will erase my whole data and lock the screen, isn't it?
If user connect to internet, It will notify me?
I read somewhere that by choosing erase mac option I am no longer to track my mac, isn't it?
I also read somewhere that by locking screen it ask 4 digits passcode, then why its asked me for 6 digits?
Please let me know about these question's answers. This will be great for me. Thanks.

  • Help with erasing and syncing please - what will be erased?

I have somehow created a 2nd itunes account and my iphone won't sync with the first one. It is syncing with the 2nd one however I cannot add new music - if I try on the 2nd one I get a message asking if I want to erase this iphone and sync with this itunes library.  Below this is a warning that erasing and syncing will replace the contenst of this iphone with the contents of this itunes library.  What exactly will be erased?  If it's just the music and photos then I won't mind - my phone is new and not got much on it.  However I don't want to lose all my apps and contacts information.  I know I can back it all up but I am not very knowledgable about all this - I am new to itunes and iphones just last month!  Any advice gratefully recieved - thank-you!

OK so its been a LONG time since messing with this but now I have to get it done. I have tried all this that is stated in this thread and I can do what I am looking for IF I start a new file, draw a few shapes, apply the pathfinder divide.
However, with this file I am working with I can not figure out why I cant get it to work.
Again, what i am trying to do is have a LOT of lines crossing over the edges of the templates that are the shapes in my AI file. Think 80's style Eddie Van Halen guitar. They're going to be graphic for my sons motorcycle for his birthday.
I was trying to simply use the rectangle tool to draw various black and white lines and then somehow cut the overhangs off my templates.
Very frustrating that I cant figure out what I am doing wrong!! Especially since I am fairly proficient in After Effects, Premiere, and Photoshop. Trying to learn Illustrator though!!
    By the way using CS3
Thanks for anyone that can help me!!!

    - someone help me!

    - It means what it says.  Your iPod is synced with a different iTunes library.  To transfer purchases to this computer:

  • My 2006 iMac running Snow Leopard won't boot even after erasing and re-installing Snow Leopard (via my MacBookPro), either from the HD or DVD drive.  Can't get it to run Hardware Test.  Disk Utility says disk OK - files are there. What can I do?

My 2006 iMac running Snow Leopard won't boot even after erasing and re-installing Snow Leopard.   I erased and re-installed by putting the iMac in Target Disk mode and usin my MacBookPro as the host.  But after numerous attempts I still can't get it to boot either from the HD or DVD drive. I just get the white screen after the wheel stops spinning.  I can't get it to run Hardware Test - just get the white screen.  If I use Disk Utility via my MBP it says the disk appears OK. All the Snow Leopad files appear to have been installed. What can I do?

Perhaps you installed the wrong version OS X onto the iMac, you can't use the disk from another Mac.
    clean the disk.
If it's not working then use this method to create a bootable 10.6 USB from the iMac machine specific 10.6 disk or the 10.6.3 retail disk on your other Mac, use it to boot the iMac with.

  • HT1202 I get how you can transfer purchases from a device to computer but what about the hundreds of songs on my iPad that were from CDs and non purchased? How can you move them from iPAd to computer if it wants to erase and sync?

I am needing to transfer ALL content, not just purchased, to new computer and it wants to erase and sync because device is associated with another Library. Please help!

What was the source to get that content onto the iPad?
There has to be a middleman to get from CD to iPad - use
backup of that to get content to new computer.

  • What exactly will "erase and sync"-ing my ipod erase?

so i want to download a video onto my mom's ipod but apparently the ipod has been synced to another itunes library when last time, i plugged it into the same computer to update it...
anyway the notification "do you want to erase this ipod and sync with the contents of this itunes library?" came up so i just want to know what will be erased.... like i don't want to lose her apps and the progress she's made in them hahaha.
just some more details:when i plug in the ipod,
    under the "Tones" section--i didn't checkmark it;
    "Sync Music" didn't checkmark it
"Sync Movies" well I want to checkmark it and check the video i want to download
"Sync tv shows" "Sync photos" all aren't checkmarked
so the only thing i have checked (or want to check) is the movies. the ipod currently doesn't have any music on it but lots of photos and apps and i don't want to lose any of them. so if i were to click "erase and sync" will that delete the photos and apps and the progress?
MUCH THANKS TO ANYONE THAT WOULD HELP!

You have to use the manual method of syncing to copy music and videos for other than the one syncing computer you can have. The manual method is discussed here:

  • Itunes keeps asking to erase and sync after already erased and synced

I've erased and synced my iPhone 4 and iPad 1 both 3 times, iTunes is asking to do this everytime I want to add something new. When I'm done I'd have everything checked in the upper left hand corner in itunes that I always want to sync i.e. music, tv shows, or books, but when I reconnect a couple days later some will be unchecked then I have to erase and sync. Anybody know why this is happening.

I think you can mark this thread as "answered".
I had the same problem after picking up a replacement 4Gb iPhone from the Apple store last night. When I returned home and plugged in the iPhone it downloaded the 2.0.2 update and applied it prior to the first or two painfully slow restores on my G4. When the iPhone came back to life after the Restore I had the same situation you described, apps and data restored but no music and only the "Set up new iphone" or restore from backup option when the iPhone appeared in iTunes. Thinking I had done something wrong I told it to Restore the from backup again. Two hours later, same results.
So I was pleased to see your message on the discussion board and possible solution. I couldn't wait to get home from work to try it. Well, selecting "Set up as new" fixed it. My iPhone appeared as normal in iTunes and I'm syncing my music as I type.
    Thanks!

  • How do I keep my downloaded content on my iPhone 4 when connectng to iTunes? It says erase and sync. I want to keep what I have downloaded, and manually manage contend on iTunes. Can I do this without it saying erase and sync?

How do I keep my downloaded content on my iPhone 4 when connectng to iTunes? It says erase and sync. I want to keep what I have downloaded, and manually manage contend on iTunes. Can I do this without it saying erase and sync?

No backup? Never a good idea to not maintain a backup of your important data. If you do not have a backup, follow these instructions:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you formatted your computer, your phone, will see your computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes(under the edit menu).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in whatever supported applications you use for contact & calendar syncing. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
That's as good as it gets without a backup of your itunes library and other important data..

  • Windows 7 computer shut down and restarted - no memory of iTunes or other files. I want to sync my iPod 4th Gen. to the computer, but it offers erase-and-sync. Now what?

In a nutshell, the family computer, a Compaq Desktop Windows 7, has been in our family since November 2010-ish. We moved last summer, and nothing happened to it. A couple of weeks ago, the desktop had a whole "recovery-restart-etc" dilemna and no it's like new - no memory of the past files. I had iTunes (7 or 9), for only me, the only iTouch 4th generation user in the house. Basically no other Apple products. Now that I want to fix the computer (restore old photos and applications, etc) as well as move my music to the desktop itself, iTunes tells me I must update my iOS 4....? (never updated the iOS thing) So I try to do so, and iTunes tells me I have to transfer my music files to the library. Fine. I try, and since the iTouch has a previous history with the previous iTunes library BEFORE the major shutdown, it tells me to erase and sync my data! I don't want to lose all my music and repay for it, and I may be smart, but I'm not at the Genius Bar, am I? So can somebody help me? Please? Thank you in advance.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - For other music yu will need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - If you have photos synced to the iPod you will need a pair program like TouchCopy or PhoneView. They also do music
    - The connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup. The will also update the iOS on the iPod.
