What to do if app is crashing on iPhone

What to do if app is crashing on iPhone?

Delete the app
DELETING APP
Hold your finger on the app you want to delete until it wiggles then tap the “x” to delete the app and tap the home button to stop icons from wiggling. Note that native apps that came preinstalled with the phone cannot be deleted. Deleting an app also deletes all of its data. You can re-download any app you’ve purchased from the App Store, free of charge. Alternatively you can go to settings/general/usage, tap on the app you want to delete and then on the next screen tap “delete app”.
Download it again

Are you using ios? Is your app crashing or not installing an update?
There is an issue that the Revel version 2.3.2 on iOS does not seem to install. We are working with Apple to resolve it as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this is causing you. In the mean time, you can still access your photos on adoberevel.com from a browser and from our mac, win8, and android apps.

• Droid Maxx apps constantly crashing lately - what's going on?

For the past week or so, my Droid Maxx apps are crashing all the time. The one that really kills me is the Contacts app because so many other apps rely on it. As far as I know there have been no ANdroid updates to this phone in a month or more. And I haven't installed anything new to cause this.
I saw others complaining of the same thing in other threads. What's going on?
Is it a Droid Maxx thing or an Android 4.4.4 KitKat thing?
Whatever is causing it, it's making the phone almost unusable at times and I'm sick of rebooting it. Also, the Volume key is getting stuck in the loudest position at times too recently. When my phone rings at work, it causes an issue sometimes.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Latest update: Had to manually get phone to re-boot after sitting on the "Erasing Files..." screen for over 15 minutes.
Once re-booted, the Conatcs app crashed again - "Contacts has stopped" is the error message and your only option is to hit OK. Why is it not asking me if I want to send an error report which usually happens when an app crashes or freezes?
Decided to try changing the default contacts shown in the Contacts app. I then changed it to use Brewster contacts. App did not crash or stop again for a few hours. Then it started crashing again and now it's the default or most common behavior again.
Can any of the Vzw folks or other community users help or offer some advice? I seem to be at a dead-end....
Thanks.

• How to control what happens when an app crashes?

I can't for the life of me remember where the setting is for telling MacOS X to display a dialog asking if you want to Relaunch, Reset, Ignore etc.
Anyone? Thanks, people.

smithrj,
Don't think I communicated my question well enough: I know how to crash an app. What I don't remember is where I find the setting which changes the OS's behavior, once an app's crashed. By default, an OS X installation prompts the user with a dialog, to the effect: "Application Safari has unexpectedly crashed. Do you want to Relaunch, File a report, Ignore?"
But I have changed this behavior to permanently Ignore. Now, where was the setting? Thanks.

My camera app is crashing! I am felling frustrated ! I bought my iPhone 5s in u.s unlocked one, but I'm in India now what should I do?? Can I claim for warranty?

Warranty claims can only be made in the country of purchase.
Try resetting your iPhone. Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
If that does not fix it, check Settings > General > Usage and make sure you have enough free storage.

• My fairway solitaire app keeps crashing. On 2 iPads. Both first generation. I had this app for one year with no problem. What can I do to eliminate crashes

My fairway solitaire apps keeps crashing on 2 iPads. Anyone having this problem. How can I solve

Fairway Solitaire is a very large app because it has nearly 1000 unique holes to play. Because of that, many devices get bogged down over time. I find that if you shut off your device completely and turn it back on, many of the sluggishness or crashing is solved.
Also, just as Apple recommends with any app, remember to back-up your data to iCloud often. Fairway Solitaire saves data locally (to your device) and not to the cloud yet. The developer, Big Fish Studios, said that they are building the game to save to the cloud, but that hasn't been implemented at this time.
If you do not back-up your data via iCloud, you may lose all progress, golf bucks, stars, cups, trophies, and records if the app or the device resets itself.

• Metro Apps All Crash On Startup - I have read the other threads on this

UPDATE: I AM UPDATING THIS FIRST POST AS PEOPLE KEEP INCORRECTLY MARKING OUR ISSUE AS ANSWERED WHEN THEY HAVE NOT READ THE THREAD PROPERLY. AS SUCH I WILL START BY SAYING IF YOU ARE COMING HERE AND USING AVAST THEN YOUR SOLUTION WILL BE TO TURN OF THE BEHAVIOR SHIELD
FUNCTION. MORE INFO IS CONTAINED ELSEWHERE ONLINE ON THIS MATTER. THIS THREAD IS ABOUT DOMAIN USE OF METRO ON CLEAN INSTALLS WITH NO 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE. SORRY FOR THE CAPITALS BUT 5 TIMES HAVE PEOPLE MARKED AVAST AS THE ANSWER TO OUR PROBLEM WHEN IT IS NOT
EVEN INSTALLED AS DESCRIBED IN THE THREAD. I HAVE POSTED AN EXACT STEP BY STEP TO REPRODUCE MY PROBLEM LOWER DOWN
I know this question has been asked several times but there seems to be no-one that has a fix for it and it's becoming very frustrating.
I have installed windows 8 on my work computer as part of a test group to evaluate how the OS runs in our corporate space. The answer currently is not very well. The desktop side runs lovely but the whole metro experience is currently broken. This is the
same across all the people in our test group, not just my machine.
Scenario:
All users running windows 8 within our domain are unable to launch any metro (sorry - new style) application with the exception of PC settings.
I will describe how I set my machine up and the errors I receive.
The install is Windows 8 Pro that was a totally clean install. Installation went fine and very fast which was great. When required during setup I created a local Microsoft account - we wanted to see the experience for the majority of users who
do not have a live id. This all worked fine and everything worked as expected - including the metro apps.
Now that everything was up and working we joined the machine to the domain, this went fine and I was asked what local security level I would like the account to have - I selected administrator as I need to install all my software / dev tools etc.
After reboot I log into my domain account and start to install all my applications. I didn't retest metro apps at this point as it never crossed my mind that I would need to.
All normal desktop apps / programs installed I try to show a colleague the news metro app. The splash screen flashes up and bang straight back to the start screen. I proceeded to try every single other metro app and all have the same result, including
the store. Strangely they are all displaying notifications and updating the tiles.
So now I start to search the issue online looking at my event logs for clues to track it down. The following is what i find in the event viewer, I will use the store as an example:
Under "Windows Logs" --> "Application" : I get two separate error events the first reads "Activation of app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store failed with error: The app didn't start. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional
information." The second arrives in the log about 15 seconds after the first and reads "App winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store did not launch within its allotted time."
Under "Windows Logs" --> "System" : I get one error that reads "The server Windows.Store did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."
Under "Applications And Services Logs" --> "Microsoft" --> "Windows" --> "Apps" --> "Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational" : I get one error that reads "Activation of the app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store for
the Windows.Launch contract failed with error: The app didn't start."
I have tried the following to resolve this with no success:
Updated the registry as per a moderator suggestion on technet
Linked my domain account to my live id account
Tried changing permissions on C drive to allow all application packages full control
Install all latest updates
Tried to run from the local none domain account - same issue now occurs there
I am not willing to do a repair or re install after spending the best part of a day installing my programs and arranging my start menu too my desired layout. Also each user in our test group has the same issue with totally different software installed. The
only common item between the 5 systems is .net 3.5 has been installed in order to run a piece of custom software (a simple exe).
I need to try to find another spare machine to test if simply joining the domain is the root cause. If so this will surely be a big issue when it is actually release later this month as we do nothing special here in terms of our domain config. If it is something
to do with the domain Microsoft should be much more specific about what can and cant be done on the group policies if you want metro to run. There is no way we could roll this out to our users if as soon as they join our domain their entire start
screen stops working.
HELP!!!

Kevinio04,
We have been experiencing the same error in our environment; however today I have found a solution for this. I have included my theory too, as to why this was happening. Let me know if this solution works for you:
If you have recently installed Windows 8 Enterprise on a machine, put the machine on a domain and then used Active Directory credentials to log in, then you may have
experienced all Metro Apps to crash.
Theory for Metro apps crashing: Once the machine was put on the domain and an Active Directory user would log into the Windows 8 machine group policy kicked in (depending on what OU that machine was in). Group policy writes to the Windows registry;
therefore if you put that same machine in a different OU after previously being in a different OU, there are still traces of the previous group policy in the Windows registry. In summary, a new OU needs to be created in group policy specifically for
Windows 8 machines. The machines that are going to have Windows 8 installed on them, must start with a clean Windows 8 install. You can find details in the outline below:
GROUP POLICY CHANGES
Create a new Windows 8 OU with no policies enforced
Once that OU is created, create the following Policy:
Location of Policy: Computer Configuration / Policies / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies/Security Options / Audit: Audit the access of global system objects
This policy needs to be set to: Not Configured
Audit: Audit the access of global system objects
Default: Disabled
Description of this Policy
*This security setting determines whether to audit the access of global system objects. If this policy is enabled, it causes system objects, such as mutexes, events, semaphores and DOS devices, to be created with a default system access control list (SACL).
Only named objects are given a SACL; SACLs are not given to objects without names. If the Audit object access audit policy is also enabled, access to these system objects is audited.*
INSTALL WINDOWS 8 ENTERPRISE
Administer a clean install of Windows 8 on a machine
Create a local administrator account
Log in with the location admin account to put the machine on the domain
Do NOT log onto the machine with Active Directory credentials yet!
Put the machine in the new Windows 8 OU
Restart the machine
Now, log onto the machine with Active Directory credentials
TADA!

• App store and Mail app are crashing in my mac air 10.9.5

All my apps are crashing and i am not able to open any of them . App store for Software update and Mail app, Photos app are all crashing. I have OS X 10.9.5 in my system. I removed Parallels trail version and also Clean My Mac app, Still i have the issue,Please help me to resolve the issue,

"CleanMyMac" purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

• Mail app keeps crashing (and other related problems)

A few days ago, my Mail app began crashing on seemingly unrelated events, so I assume my data got corrupted. I won't explain all the scenarios because it's a complete mess. To keep it simple, I have only 2 accounts and they are both on Gmail, so no backups are needed. I'd like to try doing a complete wipe of all data that the Mail app uses and that should fix it.
What files/folders does Mail use? So far, I've found:
~/Library/Mail
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
I've also seen someone mention ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, but I don't have this file.
After deleting the above and creating my mail accounts, the crashes are back. The only possibilities I can think of are:
1. I haven't deleted EVERYTHING owned by Mail yet. <-- What other files/folders belong to the Mail app?
2. Mail is depending on something else on my system that is broken.
3. Mail app itself somehow became corrupted.
4. Something being synced from my Gmail is not properly being handled, resulting in a crash.
When this started happening (if it helps):
1 day after installing the OS X update 10.8.3 as well as MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update v1.1, my MBP froze as soon as I loaded League of Legends. This was followed by a reboot as I couldn't Cmd+Tab out of the game. I wasn't aware of the Force Close App shortcut at the time, so I used the power button. That was the only time this happened, and it has worked fine a few times after the updates were applied and also worked after the reboot following the freeze. Since that time, I have encountered another issue where just about all of my apps crashed simultaneously -- no 3D-accelerated apps were even running this time.
Since then, I've updated VirtualBox from 4.2.8 to 4.2.10 (seemed like something that could cause this weirdness as I always have a VM running) and have not had any problems except Mail crashing all the time.
This question is primarily about fully resetting the Mail app to clean settings/data, but any thoughts on what may have happened are also welcome

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

• After update to IOS 7x some apps are crashing a lot & system Reboots!

After installing IOS 7.1.1 on 1 x iPhone 4 16GB, 3x iPhone 4s 64GB and 1 iPad mini 64GB, Apps started crashing which worked well on IOS 5.5 & IOS 6. After Updating to IOS 7, the problems started. Some of my favourite games like "Call Of Duty: Black Ops Zombies"and Avengers Initiative keep crashing at the start. "Call Of Duty" reported Low Memory even though I turned off Background App Refresh, Re-downloaded the Apps, performed full system reboot, enabled "Reduce Motion", enabled "Increase Contrast" and still no luck. I have also deleted many of my Apps to free up storage space but still no improvement. Other problems major problems are that the screen freezes and Apps become unresponsive requiring a full system reboot. This happens very often and also when trying to update or download Apps the system crashes and often Reboots itself. I believe the main problem is with low memory because I ran an App called "Battery Doctor" which shows that 82% of the 512MB RAM is already been used before any Apps have even been started leaving only 89MB of free RAM which is hardly enough to run decent Games on. There are many occasions when FaceTime wouldn't allow Sign In and in iTunes Apps would revert to how they were after applying changes. When adding Contacts, changes would often revert back. Also I have noticed that the iPhone sometimes would display the wrong amount of free Storage space and it would sometimes show like 5GB available and then go to 0MB available and cause crashes during downloads. Another problem I found was that when Apps start up, a white patch shows on the screen temporarily which wasn't apparent before IOS 7x. When adding contacts I noticed that with "Increase Contrast" disabled, some of the entries added did not display while typing with the keyboard and the text was greyed out making it difficult to read what you are typing. Now I wish that I had not updated to IOS 7 as suggested because it has messed up my £700 iPhones and I don't see a way of downgrading without Jailbreaking making my phones worthless. We are very very upset and disappointed because we paid so much money for the devices and have not had them long. We do not want to buy a newer device just because of the update messing up our phones. Also I do not want to try and restore from a previous backup because the last few times I've tried and it does not restore everything. It is very time consuming and I am too ill to go through all that again on each device. Also I believe the restore does not give me the choice of going back to IOS 5.5 or IOS 6. Therefore if Apple could give the opportunity to update to IOS 5.5 or IOS 6 for older devices and have a separate update for IPhone 5s which have a faster processor and double RAM (1GB) then I would be very grateful. I would also like to add the fact that IOS 7.x.x drains the battery very quickly. After reading the many complaints about IOS 7 update & my personal experience, I now regret updating and also fear that future updates may render my iPhones useless. I bought my iPhone 4s direct from Apple and paid a premium for Factory Unlocked iPhones. I think the iPhones may now be out of warranty and are very unhappy with this situation. Please, please please could you send a fix in another update!

Actually DIESEL they do force you to update. my wife has not update hers yet to ios6 and none of the apps work at full tilt anymore because they are all updated for ios 6....Apple is now making you either update(and ruin your iphone 4s) or buy the new iphone 5(which i doubt will have any of the problems people with iphone 4s are having).
Since updating my 4s i have lost signal, data has been very low at best. i can not access any apps or they open up and do not refresh. I use to have 4bars at my work and now i have 1.

• Machine boots until LoginWindow.app launches/crashes in loop

Machine is a macbook, running 10.4.11. On Wednesday, the user accepted an update, and rebooted. The boot goes all the way through the "Starting Mac OS X..." screen -- the status bar goes all the way across -- and then when it goes to launch LoginWindow.app it hangs with the blank blue screen.
When booting in verbose mode, it is clear that LoginWindow.app is crashing on launch infinitely. We have run disk repair and repaired permissions multiple times, and no change. Looking at the console log, this appears to be the start of the trouble:
Aug 13 17:06:22 andreas-computer crashdump: CoreGraphics server version 258.0 not compatible with client version 258.79; log out or reboot needed
This was the message that came up in an alert panel. After that, there were some interesting messages on bootup, but by 17:20 the console messages have settled in... loginwindow.app starts, mds & blued crashe some number of times, loginwindow.app crashes, -- like this:
Aug 13 17:20:12 andreas-computer /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started
Aug 13 17:20:12 andreas-computer crashdump[166]: mds crashed

Aug 13 17:20:14 andreas-computer crashdump[168]: loginwindow crashed
We've tried doing disk repair and permission repair when booted in single-user mode off of the local disk, and also when booted off of the install CDs -- it doesn't seem to matter, all checks are clean. (We also ran fsck in single-user mode, and it passed with no errors.)
I've attached more of the console.log -- after this section it just repeats the launch loginwindow, crash mds & blued, crash loginwindow sequence over and over.
It looks like a file is corrupted (not the permissions, but the file contents itself.) Does anybody have any idea what file(s) it might be? Or how to get them off the install disk?

We've got the machine booted and happy...
The timeline of the failure turned out to be what mattered... The teacher told me that she had taken an update (she thought it was iTunes and a security update but wasn't positive.) Then when it went to reboot it came up with the error and told her to reboot. Then when she tried to reboot is when it started with the launch/crash loop on loginwindow.app.
My husband hooked the machine up to his machine using target mode, and (among many things we tried) tracked down what appeared to be all of the recent updates that should have happened. He found and reinstalled the latest security update over the target mode connection. Once the security update was completed, the macbook booted normally.
For people (like me) who had no idea how to install an update this way:
Go to http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/
scroll down the page looking for the packages
click on it to download the package you want
when the package is done, double-click on it
The package loader will come up and offer you a choice of disks to install on -- choose the target-mounted disk and install.
