Apple does not track or contact users about stolen property.
If you did not have Find My turned on in System Preferences > iCloud you can only report the theft to the police and see if they find the MacBook.
It is best to not publish telephone numbers or serial numbers on public websites.

Lojack for laptops - if that is the product you purchased and installed, you will need to read the user manual or contact the manufacturer as it is 3rd party. You did file a police report right?

My MacBook was stolen in June. Just received an email from Find My iPhone that it's been found. What next?

My MacBook was stolen from my car in Hartford ct in June 2013. I filed a police report with the serial number. I monitored find my iPhone for several weeks with no luck. I set find my iPhone to erase my mac.
Yesterday, I received and email saying my mac was being erased. Several hours later I received an email saying my MacBook has been found along with an approximate address.
What can I do next? Can I access the camera? Can I make a message appear on the screen?

On my MacBook pro I have a firmware password, filevault is on and so is find my iphone icloud service.
Lets imagine my MacBook Pro gets stolen.
Lets imagine I use icloud to register it as "Lost" or even "Erase" the MacBook Remotely.
What happens if the person who stole it inserts a new disk into the MacBook Pro?
Can the MacBook then be used with a different disk? i.e. is it still usable?
I understand iPhones become unusable if one does this. But MacBooks? Only the ones with Mavericks? Also Older Mac

A disk removed from one mac can surely be placed in another, formatted and reused. Disks are not mac specific.
My question was different please can someone else take this perhaps?

Macbook pro stolen, what's my best option?

Hey, my macbook got stolen and I just wanted to know what the best possible thing for me to do was.
But before that here's the situation with my system, I hadn't installed any security features on my laptop (the one that takes pictures of the person). I do have the find my macbook locating thing, and I did have a passcode on my lock screen. Since the officer told me that the chances of ever getting my laptop back were pretty slim, I'm leaning towards the lock feature (and have some crazy password that they possibly couldnt get into) in the find my macbook thing or the erase feature (if it wipes the entire hard disk).
What do you guys think?

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.

Open the Get Info window for the old drive. Click the Lock icon on the bottom of that window and type in your password. In the permissions area click the Plus sign ( + ) and Add your Username to it and set it to Read & Write. Close that window. you should now have full access to all the files.

My brand new macbook pro 15'' got stolen last weekend. It is password protected, but I would very much like two things to happen:
a) track if the macbook gets online somewhere and report this to the police
b) wipe the content remotely, although I made no special arrangements for this upfront.

No, I did not do this due as I did not appreciate the benefit of being able to track my hardware when it is in the hands of others.
Now that it is officially stolen, is there something I can do?
The Applestore I visited said they can't do much except for tracking the serialnumber in case the macbook comes back to the two stores that are owned by the same company.
