What to do now when I see a white page?

Hi All,
My iBook has kernel panic if I enable the Airport card. To repair cost me about 850 USD because a simple connection problem and that started when the computer was 15 months buying. Now I have new problem. When I start I got a white screen written Illegal instruction at....etc...Welcome to Open Firmware.
To start the computer with "C" and the original disk is in it not help.
The HD disk was checked before by the Disk utility.
Where I can find list of commands for this page?
What can I do now?
How can I make installation without the Airport driver.
I am quite sad about the situation of this computer.
Thanks for you help and for your patience to help solve this problem.
Best regards,
doki

OK. Forgive me for not quite understanding. I have worked as an electronic technician myself, so I understand what you are saying now. It is bad practice to fix electronic problems by applying pressure with shims and spacers. It may make something work for a while, but it can and probably will cause problems in the long run. It is always better to do a proper repair. I just wanted to be sure you were aware of all the possibilities.
It is unclear just what the proper repair would be here. You could replace both the logic board and the airport module, but if the problem lies in the connection between the two, due to poor design perhaps, then the problem will just never really be fixed.
If you don't want airport at all, then one option would be to just remove the airport card and leave it out. But since you indicate that you are visually handicapped, this is likely not an option for you.
Now I am wondering if the simplest thing to do would be to just get rid of the AirPort Utility? Go to Finder>Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility. Drag the AirPort Utility to the trash, but don't empty the trash just yet. The utility should not be able to open if it is in the trash, so the airport module should not be able to turn on. See if this helps.
Also, check that AirPort is not a login item. Go to System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items. If Airport is on the list, remove it by highlighting it and clicking on the "-" sign.
I am no software expert, but it seems to me that this should work. Try it and see. If it does and all seems well, you can eventually empty the trash. But it would be best to run for a while and be sure that there aren't going to be any problems first. Not emptying the trash gives you the option to restore the Airport Utility if you have to. And maybe a software expert can give an opinion here.
Good luck!

  • What can you do when you see a white screen of death when you turn your computer on

My MacBook Pro had the color wheel rotating when I clicked on a link. It stopped and displayed a white screen. There was no way to force quit or do anything else, so I pressed the power button and turned it off. Since then, I have removed the battery and the cord, replaced them, and turned it back on. It does come on, but it displays the same white screen and nothing else. What is the problem?

Sounds like your hard drive died and the NVRAM got flushed.
You'll have to take it in and/or replace the drive and install your EFI firmware from cd to be able to install OS X back onto the machine.

What does it mean when I see a file with a question mark on the screen?

Means no bootable system can be found or required system files are missing or damaged. Reinstall OS X.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • I just installed the new mountain lion software on my iMac.  I was currently running Snow Leopard.  My problem is with my mouse.  Now when I scroll down the page it moves in the opposite direction. I checked system S.P. - Natural for scroll feature.

I just installed the new mountain lion software on my iMac.  I was currently running Snow Leopard.  My problem is with my mouse.  Now when I scroll down the page it moves in the opposite direction. In system preferences I tried checking and unchecking Natural for scroll feature. Movement from side to side works fine.  Has anyone experienced this problem?

I think this new scrolling behaviour was introduced with Lion. You do get used to it pretty quickly (well I did). Are you sure that deselecting Natural Scrolling in Mouse Prefs doesn't re-instate the previous behaviour, it does here.

  • HP LaserJet 3330 shows horizontal lines exactly every 1.5" when printing a completely white page

HP LaserJet 3330 shows seven or eight  about 3.5" long cloudy horizontal lines spaced exactly every 1.5" even when printing a completely white page. This occurs also when copying and faxing.
There are also 2 very thin vertical lines running down the whole page approx. in the middle. They are exactly 1" apart.
However, a scan of a white page viewed on my computer (not printed) is completely clean.
Windows 7. No changes or upgrades.
    This question was solved.

Propbably the toner cartridge if they are 1.48" apart it could be the developing cylinder or the charging roller that are both in the toner cartridge. So a good guess if you replace the toner cartridge, the problem will go away. The vertical lines could also be part of this issue.

  • HT1551 what does it mean when I see a black screen with the Apple logo but it wont do anything but that.  I have re booted 4 times  same outcome.  Help!

I just hooked up my Apple TV.  I see a black screen with Apple logo.  Nothing else happens.  Remote functions as I see the white light respond.  Have rebooted 4 times but same thing occurs.  What should I try.
    Thanks.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

  • What should I do when I see this error message: iPhone cannot be synced required disk cannot be found?

What should I do when I try to sync my iPhone 4s with a MacBook and get the error message: "iPhone cannot be synced...required disk cannot be found?"

Close "iPhoto" if it is open. Open the "Pictures" folder and right-click on "iPhoto Library." Select "Show Package Contents." Right-click the "iPod Photo Cache" folder, select "Move to Trash" and sync your iPhone. The error message should no longer appear.
    if that doesn't work,
uninstall itunes and download the lastest version

  • What am I losing when I see individual color clipping in Camera Raw?

I hope this is the right place to leave this question as it's probably more about color than a technical question about PS. I have enough knowledge of color theory to be dangerous, as they say.
I am adjusting some landscape images taken in RAW mode with a Nikon D200.
In Camera Raw, as I draw the black slider to the right, I see clipping of blue channel before the image looks adjusted properly for contrast. With the option key down, large blocks of yellow appear before black appears, and I assume that also means the blues are being clipped. The only place I see that clipping is areas of green foliage.
Deep blue skies are not showing clipping and neither are other obvious blues in the images.
When I adjust Camera Raw's black slider to the point where I get full shadow clipping (black shows up with the Option key down), back off slightly, and then look at the image's channels in PS, I see the blue channel is all blocked up.
I understand (or think I understand) that the weak channel carries detail...yet I really can't see any difference in foliage detail whether the blue channel is clipped or not.
I am not clear about what I am doing, and I am also not clear whether this is a result of the rendering of certain greens by my camera. I know from experience that manipulations of yellows in later processing seems to affect foliage colors more than manipulation of greens. Saturation of foliage is affected far more by selecting "yellows" in the saturation adj layer dropdown box than by selecting greens.

    Thanks, everyone.
Opening the image in ProPhoto colorspace completely eliminates the blue clipping. When I compare two instances of an image in PS after assigning ProPhoto in ACR for one and Adobe RGB in ACR for the other, I see much more detail in the blue channel of the image in PS.
Yes, then this is a good lesson on gamut clipping and colorspace.
I tried the workaround but it's much easier to just work in a larger colorspace.

  • What can I do when I see "The backup disk image cannot be mounted"

P.S. I use time capsule for backup. there were no problem on connection

  • What does it mean when you see the battery symbol with red and black and an "lightening" symbol below it

Why doesn't the battery on my new iPhone 4s last very long?  I charged it yesterday late afternoon.  Did not use it at all and it was completely dead this morning.

All icons are covered in the User's Guide... might be a good idea to browse through it.
Also, a simple search of these forums or google will result in a plethora of information regarding battery life.  Help yourself by doing a little research.
