What to do when Dr. Pepper is spilled on Macbook Air?

How did this happen? I had an almost-empty glass of Dr. Pepper sitting beside my computer (stupid decision to leave it there, I know,) and my dog was laying beside me.  I was on iTunes about to sync some music I had just added to my library to my iPhone and my dog jumps up, runs after my cat, and knocks the glass over on my Macbook, spilling the drink all over the right side of the keyboard and on the bottom of the screen.  I IMMEDIATELY turned the laptop off, unplugged my earphones, USB cord, and USB wireless mouse connector, and ran to the kitchen and got a towel and started getting what I could of the Dr. Pepper off of it.  I attempted to power it on, and it came on and showed the low battery icon since it was on a low battery when this whole incidence happened.  I then started freaking out over it and took a blow dryer on the lowest and coolest setting and dried the rest off.  After that, I took a slightly damp cloth and gently wiped the keys and screen to get the stickiness off.  After this, I placed it in upside down 'v' shape on top of a towel.  I have only attempted to power it on a few times (no more than 3-4 times), and it has only come on once.  When it came on, it showed the regular white screen with the grey Apple logo, then the Apple logo switched to a light grey circle with a slash (\) in it
This happened on Tuesday, July 1 2014.  I have only had the Macbook for 1 month.
Now, I know I shouldn't have blow dried it or tried to turn it on, but I still want to try to get it to work again.  What will the repairs cost? Is it likely that the liquid got to the logic board? If so, should I just get a new computer instead of repairing it?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I just love post like this! and I’ve read more on the Apple forums than anywhere else.
So a month after paying over the odds for a computer you break the golden rule.
1/ Put liquid next to computer
2/ Have animal next you and computer
3/ Animal A then chases animal B knocking over liquid ! Classic………..
This is great, liquid + Electronic equipment = Big repair bills.
You would not put a glass of water on top of you brand new 50 inch TV to see what happens would you ? same thing do not EVER have liquids next to a computer be it a £199.99 PC or £2000.00 plus Mac the end result is the same !
I am genuinely sorry to hear about you accident, but you really have no recourse but to suck it up and contact you insurance company and see what they say.

I tried following the steps in this article. When I attempt to delete iTunes,  it says “iTunes” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. What other steps could I take to get my MacBook Air to recognize my iphone again? Neither iTunes nor iPhoto recognize my phone any longer.

iTunes can't be deleted because it comes with OS X. In order to delete it, open Terminal and copy:
    sudo rm /Applications/iTunes.app
This will remove iTunes, so then you can reinstall iTunes

My built-in Webcam is not recording correctly.  When recording directly to youtube (upload), the audio sounds like a robot.  It was not doing that when I first got my new MacBook Air last month.  What do I do to fix it?
I have tested it over several days with different internet connections...and have done it with another notebook computer on the same connection and it the video uploaded and recorded fine.  I can also use the video webcam with Google Hangouts and it records and works fine.  So I know the problem is not internet connection...and apparantly not even the webcam or mic.

Try using Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx.  What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

  • What is battery life playing DVD's on 13" macbook Air?

What is battery life playing DVD's on 13" macbook Air?
    Burnsred

Trick question.  The MBair doesn't have a DVD drive so depends on how much power your external drive draws.
If you're playing movies in iTunes then it lasts longer.  Also depends on which model (year) MBair.  Here's Apple's statement on the current (2011) line.
"Since space-saving flash storage leaves room for a bigger battery, you can devote more time to the things you enjoy most. Things like browsing the web, editing photos, and watching videos. Get up to 5 hours of battery life on a single charge on the 11-inch model and up to 7 hours on the 13-inch model. Put MacBook Air to sleep, and it enters standby mode to conserve battery life for up to 30 days.3 When you come back to your MacBook Air and open it up, it’s on in an instant."

Are you wanting to import iCal to the MacBook Air. Since iCloud doesn't work with 10.6 OSX you probably don't have any data in iCloud yet?

  • When I downloaded iWork on my MacBook Air, it didn't copy the application to my other devices. Is that an error or should I buy them again on each device!?

When I downloaded iWork on my MacBook Air, it didn't copy the application to my other devices. Is that an error or should I buy them again on each device!?

Just redownlod it from the Mac App Store on any other Macs - you won't have to pay for them again. On your iOS devices you will need to purchase the iOS version which is a different program - again, you will only need to buy it the once for all your iOS devices.

  • Why are some of my iBooks blank when I open them on my macbook Air?

I bought Jim Cramer's book on ibooks today.  I can read it on my phone, and it appears in iBooks on my Macbook Air, but when I open it on my Macbook Air, it's blank.  I then noticed that some of my opther books are also blank here, though not all of them.

  • Do any imacs come with a touch screen if not whats the best touch  screen for a 2012 13inch macbook air

Do any imacs come with a touch screen if not whats the best touch  screen for a 2012 13inch macbook air?
    Thx

    No they don't.
Apple's position is that touchscreens are for tablets and phones (in Apple's case the iPad and iPhone) and that OSX does not need a touchscreen - the trackpad and/or mouse is more flexible.
That may change in future but no one here knows.
In answer to your second question, there is NO touch screen available for the MacBook Air (2012 or any other vintage), nor for the MacBook Pro.  If you must have a touchscreen, consider an iPad with a stand and a wireless keyboard.  Alternatively, a Windows 8.1 laptop or desktop???

  • Error message when i try installing osx on macbook air

Hi i have a macbook air late 2010, worked fine until i booted from external usb drive and somehow formatted the drive and now i cant install nottin, when i boot from usb drive, it boots up and it say installing osx but 5 secounds later this **** message pops up, There was a problem installing Mac osx try reinstalling and no matter how many time i do it same message, even when i try doing it holding command key and r, at the end of the long process i get same message there was a problem try reinstalling it, i need help plz

    Hi there,
When you boot from your USB to reinstall. Try opening the Disk Util and running the diagnostics on your Hard Drive (well SDD drive)...
Run also a hardware test to make sure everything is fine (what you have may be a wrond HD or RAM that will need replacing). Try this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
If everything is ok then USB drive you are using may be to blame. Try creating a new one. You can ask a friend with a Mac to create one for you or go to an Apple store where they will reinstal the original OS.

  • What is the best way to store videos using Macbook Air?

I have a Macbook Air and I don't want to store videos on the hardrive because it will fill up fast.  I have a lot of videos - for people that also take a lot of videos - what is the best way in your opinion or best place to store video? For example, on a server, on a cloud server, etc?

Ok, so do you have a recommend brand and space capacity?
You mentioned that one of your primary needs is to store video, which demands large capacity. As a consequence I'd suggest a drive with at least 1Tb, perhaps greater, capacity. I don't have a preferred brand or manufacturer - it's a bit like recommending which is better between Ford and Chevy - but I have a couple of Western Digital external USB drives which have proven very reliable, and a Seagate which is used as a daily backup and has worked flawlessly.
DWB's point about backups is important too, because when you store files on any drive there is a risk of that drive failing - and indeed, all drives will fail at some point. The question is, can you live with the total loss of those files if the drive does fail? If you are storing files that you value, then a backup is needed to help protect those files. Ideally that would mean two drives, not one. One to use for the storing the files, and the second to use to back those files up.

  • What is the best sharepoint 2010 synchronisation tool for macbook air

what is the best sharepoint 2010 synchronisation tool for macbook.
Access sharepoint from a mapped drive is really slow, so I want to save my files locally and synchronise with Sharepoint 2010.
Is there an application or client for this.
