What to do when my iPod shuffle is not working/charging?

Okay so my iPod shuffle(4th Generation) is not working/charging.
What shold I do? Is it because of the battery?
I haven't used this since my Aunt bought it for me..
Can I reset it just like my iPod touch? If so, how?
H~E~L~P!!
please comment below!

You can try shutting down the computer and disconnecting all USB devices including hub.  Start up with no USB devices connected (except for standard keyboard and mouse if used).  Do this to reset the shuffle
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Run iTunes.  Connect shuffle to a direct USB on computer.
If that does not help, there are four possible causes.  Rule them out one at a time, if possible.
Bad USB port on computer - You mentioned an iPod touch.  If you are able to connect to iTunes with the iPod touch, using the same USB port, I think you can rule out a bad USB port.
Bad USB cable - You would need to try your USB cable with another 4th (or 3rd) gen shuffle, OR try your shuffle with a known-good USB cable from another 4th (or 3rd) gen shuffle.
Software problem on computer - If that iPod touch works properly, the computer's software is probably OK. If iTunes is not the latest version (my current Mac version says 11.02), you could try updating it.  But I think software problem is ruled out, if the iPod touch works fine, unless your iTunes version is really old.
If you can rule out those three possibilities, then the remaining cause is a hardware problem on the iPod.  If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can take it to the store's Genius Bar.  If you weren't able to rule out a bad USB cable, I'm sure they have a cable there to use as a test (but take your cable along).  If the shuffle is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.  You can make a reservation at the store's web page.

According to this article, that means the Shuffle's buttons are disabled.

  • My iPod Shuffle is not WORKING! Advice please!

    Hello,
I have iPodShuffle that stoped working this weekend. Just like that! When I say stop working, mean it doesn't appear in Finder or iTunes, but it mounted /Volumes/ without contents. (I also use my iPodShuffle as file storage for over a year now)
So I went to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60950 (iPod missing in iTunes and Mac desktop) to get some support on how I can get my baby working again. Problem here is that latest iPod updater is in iTunes and restore instruction is assuming that it appears on my iTunes.
I want to restore to factory settings but older updaters don't seems to work (it hangs).
I've also pluged in on Windows machine and see if I see my files (since I also use it as file storage) and I do, but no contents (Keep saying insert Disk E).
I appreciate any useful advice (i don't want to hear "why did you even buy ipodshuffle thing, since I already have one).
    Thank you!

Apple has released and iPod Shuffle 1st generation restorer... and it finnaly worked for me.

Theres a solution for Mac OSX too (search for the link).
Now Im affraid that all the procedures I tried before this one to restore it, may have teared my iPod decreasing its timelife...
Is there a way I can assure this?

  • My ipod shuffle is not working anymore

    Here's my scenario,
i got my ipod shuffle from an electronics store in the states during the week of 4th of July 2005; however, i'm from Toronto, Canada.........Canadian citizen. I tested out my ipod shuffle @ my cousins computer before i left, which worked. Took it to Toronto (my hometown).......and I was enjoying it. Almost a month of using it, the battery was almost getting low and it needs to be charged. I got my new computer (Windows XP pro) between August 18-24. I wanted to add more songs plus charge the shuffle on the computer. I followed the instructions just like @ my cousins house and u know what........my new computer did not recognize the shuffle at all. itunes was available, however. I tried it again another day...putting the shuffle on another USB, still not recognizing.......i noticed there was an orange light blinking and i took it off the computer. I thought it was broken....songs were still there. Few hours later.....it's not functioning anymore!!!!!!! I tried everything: updating, restoring.....on/off still ain't working. I tried to chat with an Apple representive....no luck.
What should i do? Should i go to the Apple store and ask them what's wrong with my ipod.
There's only 1 Apple store in Canada......and its in Toronto,Ontario. Its far from my house.....located near the west-end.
    Plz give me advise ASAP...............!

  • Ipod shuffle does not work on USB 2.0 but works on USB 1.1

The ipod shuffle works fine but slow on the USB 1.1 port but is recognized as a corrupt Ipod (by the itunes 7.1.1.5) when I use the USB 2.0
The ipod was first used by the the USB1.1 port because the machine did not have a 2.0 port. I installed a USB 2.0 card and my other USB mass storage works fine on the 2.0 but not the ipod. I have tried to reset the software but the ipod don't respond on the 2.0 ports. I have reset on the 1.1 port with no problems. I have windows XP pro SR2. Do I need to uninstall the itunes and reinstall.
I don't understabd why even when recognised by the usb1.1 ports why can't I access the ipod through windows explorer like any other usb storage device, it would save the hazzle with the itunes software (click and drag in widows explorer works fine on other usb devices).

    Hi raymarcus,
Have you tried reinstalling your USB drivers? See this for instructions:
iPod is not recognized properly by computer when USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date
Also, are you on a laptop? If so, then make sure that your computer is not set to conserve power by automatically turning off the power to its USB ports. See this for details:

  • HT4322 iPod Shuffle VoiceOver not working 4th Gen.

My iPod Shuffle 4th generation blue without engraving is normally playing great, and I've just had it for 3 days. I synced it 3 times. I don't know what the cause of this is, but the voiceover button is not telling me what song I'm playing or my battery life, but for some reason, it IS telling me the playlist I'm on. I don't know what the problem is but I would appreciate help ASAP.

Did you go through the procedure described here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4322
to enable VoiceOver on the shuffle's Summary tab in iTunes?  This document also provides instructions for using VoiceOver, so you can take a look at that too.
NOTE:  Playlist menu is press and hold.  Track announcement is press and release.

  • Ipod shuffle voiceover not working

I have a 4th gen. ipod shuffle. Fairly recently, the voiceover stopped working. The button still works. When I press it, the music that's playing becomes quieter for a few seconds. However, the robotic voice that says the song titles is missing. I have voiceover enabled. The ipod was exposed to magnets, but none of the music was affected. Could this have somehow caused the voiceover to stop working? More importantly, how can I fix it?

The Shuffle makes use of flash storage, versus using a traditional hard drive that makes use of a magentic read/write head. So no, the magnets would not have had any affect on the iPod.
As for the issue with VoiceOver, have you tried a simple reset yet to see if that makes a difference?

Otherwise, can you think of anything else that may have changed with the Shuffle since the last time VoiceOver was working properly on it?

  • Ipod shuffle completly not working

i have an ipod shuffle 2nd gen, and i was recently useing it and the battery died. i went to plug it in to my windows 7 laptop and it wont appear on itunes or my device manager, also it wont charge even if i use a mains adapter please can you help me

So your Shuffle is not charging whether its plugged into a mains adapter or via a USB port on your PC?  How long have you left it to charge?  If the mains adapter compatible with the 2G Shuffle?  Have you tried using a different cable perhaps?
Lastly, double check the connection to the Shuffle, to make sure that it is nice and snug.  If the connector is not pushed all the way in, the Shuffle will not charge.

  • I have no idea what to do. The iPod touch will not work w/ iTunes and has the apple symbol. It keeps flashing white.

The ipod was restored to factory settings and now it wont do anything except show the apple symbol and flash white. Then iTunes says it can't connect because of an unknown error.

Use the search function up to the right. There are a zillion basic setup guides with a simple Google search.

    Hello Korawees,
I was researching the issue you are describing and had a recommendation. The device is very simple, so the software troubleshooting for it is pretty limitted so I think you shoud restore the iPod shuffle and re sync the content. That way, if it is a software issue, this will fix it. Here is the article named Restoring iPod shuffle to factory settings found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1481.
    Before Starting
It is important to understand the difference between "update" and "restore." Update does not affect your settings or songs, it simply installs updated software that controls iPod shuffle. Restore erases the disk and restores iPod shuffle to its original factory condition with updated software. If you only need to update iPod shuffle, this should be done on the computer where music is normally synced. Updating on another computer will result in all songs being removed from iPod shuffle.
Warning: Because Restore erases all songs and files on iPod shuffle, make sure to back up any files you've saved on iPod shuffle. Your songs, podcasts, and audiobooks can be synced back to your iPod shuffle if the items are part of your iTunes library.
    How to restore iPod shuffle
Ensure that you have an active Internet connection as new versions of iTunes and iPod Software may need to be downloaded to your computer.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if you do not already have it installed.
Open iTunes, and then connect iPod shuffle to your computer.
After a few moments, iPod shuffle will appear in the Devices section on the left side of the Tunes window.
Select iPod shuffle under Devices and you will see information about it appear in the main iTunes window under the Summary tab/button for iPod shuffle (3rd and 4th generation) or the Settings tab/button for iPod shuffle (1st or 2nd generation).
The Version section tells you whether iPod shuffle is up to date or needs a newer version of the software.
Click the Restore button. You will be presented with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download the latest iPod Software. The 4-possible restore options are:
Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software currently on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores after downloading the latest iPod Software on your computer.
If you are using a Mac, a message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress indicator will appear on the computer screen indicating that the restore process has started. Do not disconnect iPod shuffle during the restore process.
After the restore process is complete, the iPod shuffle's status light will flash orange continuously. The iPod Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences as you did when you connected your iPod shuffle for the first time.
When you come to step 7, I recommend Restore Option 4.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Camera and ipod shuffle do not show up on desk top when connected

Kodak camera and ipod shuffle do not show up on desk top when connected.  Trying to download pictures and adding my music to ipod shuffle, Anyone have any suggestions.

Have you plugged in another USB device to ensure that the USB ports are working?
Suggest you buy (about $10 - $20) a USB memory card reader. Just plug your camera's memory card into it & copy the pic files to your Mac. Quicker & easier than interfacing the camera for pic transfer.
