What to do with a broken Bluetooth keyboard?

I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard with non-working keys: Tab, Caps Lock, left Shift, Q, W, E, R, and T. All the others work fine, and I can successfully pair it with my PowerBook. I took it apart to investigate and confirmed what I had suspected: Some water I had recently spilled on the keyboard had corroded the contacts on those non-working keys.
So, the keyboard is basically useless to me now and I'm wondering what to do with it. I see three options:
1) Throw it away.
2) Sell it on eBay as "parts". Maybe somebody's kid pried off a key on their keyboard, and they're willing to pay me $10 for replacement keys instead of buying a whole new keyboard.
3) Replace the corroded membrane with a new one. This would give me a working keyboard, but I don't know where to get a membrane (unless I buy another keyboard, of course).
Any suggestions?

I ended up putting it on eBay.

I am having trouble getting my My Mac Book Pro 15" Retina to wake up with an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse while Docked in a Hengedock vertical docking station. The Keyboard and mouse work great with the laptop lid open but when closed in the docking station the bluetooth signal does not seem to transmit.  Is there a setting that can be changed to allow an Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to wake the computer while docked?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I paired my iPad Mini 3 with an Anker bluetooth keyboard, then i hit forget this device. How do i re-pair them?

Try resetting the iPad.   Hold down the home and power/sleep buttons for 10 to 15 seconds or until the Apple Logo shows up. Let the iPad reboot and then try to pair again.  Not data should be lost.

  • Pairing with Think Outside Bluetooth Keyboard XTBT01

Please help me to pair my Think Outside Bluetooth Keyboard XTBT01 with my BB8900. The BB did see the keyboard but when I enter the numerical password I just get the message that it was not possible to pair.
What do I need to do that the two will pair?????
    Ferdinand

I get exactly the same behavior (Style/9670) -- the Style is happy but the keyboard isn't (blinks as though pairing is incomplete). Maybe I should have picked a Windows Phone or Nokia...

  • Help me with my Mac Bluetooth keyboard!

I was able to upload this video only when I restarted my iMac (2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3)! The problem is I keep on needing to restart to keep using this keyboard! Please help me!

    Sorry, Babowa. I will explain.
Weeks ago, I was shocked to learn that all of the sudden, my Bluetooth Keyboard failed to work, except for the volume controls on the keyboard. All other types of key presses went ignored. So I plugged in my USB keyboard to my iMac and wouldn't you know... that same thing was going on with the USB keyboard, too. My iMac ignored all key presses except for the USB keyboard's volume control. I guess I must have restarted out of frustration, that's the only idea I can think of when I went on my day that day and put that problem behind me.
But today, I wasn't going to forget about this problem at all, when it happened again. I was going to document this. This problem seems so bizarre and twisted of a problem to me and I really should know what's going on with my iMac. And so, document this problem, I did. As you can see (with the Keyboard Viewer), I can control only the volume with the computer, despite trying to type in the search box of System Preferences and also Spotlight.
So, uhm... what the heck is going on? Any ideas? Thanks for your patience...

  • Problem with 3rd party bluetooth keyboard

I just purchased a third party bluetooth keyboard (RockSoul BT-100).  Unfortunately, when paired with my MacBook (2009 aluminum unibody running Mountain Lion), neither the Escape nor the FN key works.  Any suggestions?  Do I need a special driver?

    Hello:
I suggest you contact the manufacturer of the third-party device.

  • Working with both a bluetooth keyboard and keypad

Is there a limitation on how many keyboard devices can be used at once?
I have a third party bluetooth keyboard and keypad set. Each of them was recognized and paired with the iPad okay.
However it only connects to one device or the other. Never both at the same time. Is this a limitation of the iPad software? (also of note: the keypad works okay with the exception of the enter key. It worked okay for the purpose of typing in the code to pair the device with the iPad, but not when in general use.)

Im also having this same problem with the Microsoft BT Keyboard 6000. I can only use one at a time.
Also, I cant get the copy & paste ( Control C or V ) to work

  • IMac 27" with Win7, Apple bluetooth keyboard not connected, STUCK.

I made a huge (and naive and stupid) mistake and now have an iMac stuck at the Win7 boot screen because it can not find the keyboard. I can't boot it back into OSX either because the keyboard OPT key is not recognized. Here is what happened:
My iMac 27" was working perfectly in dual boot mode and I could arbitrarily boot in either OS without problem since 3 months. Well, today, a friend called and said that her Apple keyboard is not recognized by Win7 on her iMac and she can not type. So I made sure that the battery is good and the green light is on, then I told her to go into the bluetooth device panel and remove the keyboard then re-pair it again. My thought was that I have done that with all bluetooth devices in Windows without problem, and Apple hardware and software is solid, so that got to work without a glitch, right. WRONG. She struggled to pair and connect the keyboard in Win7 to the point that I said I will remove my keyboard device and reconnect it so I can tell her the exact steps. Well, I learned the hard lesson with Apple stuffs myself. After removing the keyboard device, I could pair it, but not without difficulty. Then, however, does not connect, since I could not type and the device driver says that the device can not be started. Then I read messages in the Apple forum recommending to boot up in to OSX to remove the device there and boot it back into Win7 to pair it. OK. I used the mouse to shut down the Win7 and forgot that I have no keyboard now. I couldn't have used Boot Camp control panel to boot into OSX but I was so confident in Apple that I did not think about it. Now, I am stuck with a machine that boots into Windows without stopping and hangs at the first screen because the keyboard is missing. I inserted the OSX DVD in the hope that it would boot from the DVD but it does not. And the DVD is of course stuck in the drive. I am working at a remote location and do not have a usb keyboard or anything else.
Can anyone recommend a procedure to boot into OSX in my situation? Or can anyone tell me if I can pair and connect the keyboard in the BIOS? I googled but could not find anyone in a similar situation like mine. My friend can take her machine to Apple store for service, but I am in a country that has no Apple store.
Thank you very much for any hint.
    tom

I don't know but I installed my Windows 7 with Bootcamp without using a USB keyboard (cuz I don't have one). But you will at least need a USB mouse though. The moment it requires me to use keyboard input for various of information the bootcamp already downloaded required drivers and updates for my wireless keyboard to work. Make sure your wireless keyboard are on and try type something on it (it goes into some sort of sleep mode when you first start it).

  • What to do with a Palm Portable Keyboard

I have a Palm Portable Keyboard that I used to use with the Palm IIIxe. My IIIxe still operates, but I don't use it much anymore. I've been wondering if there is anyway to convert the portable keyboard to a bluetooth device that could then be used with a smartphone. I'm sure it's a long shot, but has anyone adapted these to bluetooth or USB use with other devices?
    Post relates to: Palm IIIxe

Sorry, I've never heard of this being done.

    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. • What to do with a broken original iPad?

Is there anything that can be done with an original iPad if it doesnt work?  It was dropped and the video card was loosened.  I know this because it happend with another of our iPads.  The screen was distorted and when though a few different colors then finally the display died.  Anything I can do with it? I checked the recycle option but they said it was worth $0.  It has a few scratches on the casing too.

it may not make financial  sense but you could get an
out of warranty exchange for $249 if "a like new " iPad
could be gift or what ever

  • What to do with a broken iPod

Can anyone give me any info?
Like where to send, what to send, or if they can do it at a Apple Store.
For my problem, I think it is something wrong with the harddrive inside the iPod
    Dell dimension 4600c   Windows XP

Well, first thing is this: replacements are free IF you are under warranty (and the technicians agree the iPod has not been abused).
If you are under warranty, the fastest way to get your iPod repaired is to go to an Apple store.
Next best thing: fill out a service request form: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/. *Note: if you've had the iPod more than 6 months, you will be charged for shipping.
If you aren't under warranty, I recommend checking out third-party repairs like www.ipodresq.com.
