What to do with a broken iPod

Can anyone give me any info?
Like where to send, what to send, or if they can do it at a Apple Store.
For my problem, I think it is something wrong with the harddrive inside the iPod
Dell dimension 4600c   Windows XP

Well, first thing is this: replacements are free IF you are under warranty (and the technicians agree the iPod has not been abused).
If you are under warranty, the fastest way to get your iPod repaired is to go to an Apple store.
Next best thing: fill out a service request form: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/. *Note: if you've had the iPod more than 6 months, you will be charged for shipping.
If you aren't under warranty, I recommend checking out third-party repairs like www.ipodresq.com.

  • What to do with an old iPod

I have an old iPod classic. 40GB circa 2003. I don't need it, it's just been sitting in a drawer for a couple of years. It works intermittently. I guess you could call it "faulty".
Is there anything I can do with it, besides chucking it in the bin? I don't want to keep it or repair it? Do people buy these for any reason?
    Thanks

    Hey there,
You could sell it on ebay. There are numerous people out there who buy old iPods that are broken, either to repair them, or use them for parts to repair another iPod. Usually they will pay a pretty decent price for them too. Just do a search on ebay for broken iPods and you will see there are quite a few up for sale on there. Just make sure that if you do, that you do your best to describe exactly what is wrong with it and mention that it could also be used for parts.
You could always recycle it through Apple as well.

  • What to do with a broken Bluetooth keyboard?

I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard with non-working keys: Tab, Caps Lock, left Shift, Q, W, E, R, and T. All the others work fine, and I can successfully pair it with my PowerBook. I took it apart to investigate and confirmed what I had suspected: Some water I had recently spilled on the keyboard had corroded the contacts on those non-working keys.
So, the keyboard is basically useless to me now and I'm wondering what to do with it. I see three options:
    1) Throw it away.
    2) Sell it on eBay as "parts". Maybe somebody's kid pried off a key on their keyboard, and they're willing to pay me $10 for replacement keys instead of buying a whole new keyboard.
    3) Replace the corroded membrane with a new one. This would give me a working keyboard, but I don't know where to get a membrane (unless I buy another keyboard, of course).
    Any suggestions?

I ended up putting it on eBay.

to cut the story short...lol...i was wondering do you guys know wat's wrong with my ipod? and could i somehow save the data stored in the ipod harddrive?
im going crazy without music from my ipod...and im pretty much broke to afford a new one....

I can only guess from what you wrote "it was working fine but the screen was blank but still played music"
Very likely the LCD was cracked, you can have a try to do a Reset and a Restore, but I do not think it works.
Before doing any thing, I agree with you that you should save the data stored in your iPod. You can download and install some 3rd party software on your PC in order to copy the music files to your PC

  • I don't what's happening with my video iPod...

.....but it's making me crazy....the syncing "feature", that is.
I have always been able to add podcasts manually and then one day I decided to try the sync method and everything podcast-wise disappeared from my 'pod replaced with what I had checked for syncing.
Needless to say I was NOT happy so I unchecked the syncing so that I could go back to manually adding my video podcasts. Now that does NOT work. I drag & drop new podcasts but they don't make it into the iPod. In fact the podcasts list isn't even in the playlist list.
Anyone know how to make the iPod accept manual loading?? And, yes, I have checked the manually manage box under the iPod's preferences.
    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

    great solution.

  • Help!! what's wrong with my new ipod classic??

Hi there, I have a brand new 80G ipod classic to replace my older 8G nano. I've been using itunes as usual but when I plugged my new ipod into the PC to transfer my existing itunes library and purchased tracks to my new ipod I got the message "attempting to copy to the disk failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I was then prompted to 'restore' the ipod. I retried downloading a number of times. Each time the message appeared after downloading only a few of the saved music tracks (5,162,190,19), and each time I had to restore the ipod. I'm sure this isn't a problem with my PC software as my wife is using a brand new 8G nano from the same PC without issue. Could it be that the ipod hard drive is crashing during the download process? I'm really stuck and would love to use my christmas gift as intended! Hope someone can help.
    Many thanks.

See if this troubleshooting article helps.

I have no idea what happened but my ipod's screen has gone nuts! it's got this black spot on it and colored lines. Which make it impossible to look at what your doing. but music will still play. So one of my other problems is that I can't get to my serial number! I belive I'm still under warranty, but I'm not 100% sure. Any ideas?

I could be mistaken, but isn't the serial number also printed on the back of the iPod?

If you drop a brand new iPAD and are told that it is broken, what are your options???

Accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty, but Apple do a repair (i.e. replacement) service - I don't know what country that you are in, but in the US the price is (from here) :
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    New iPad
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
And here in the UK (from here) :
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    New iPad
    £256.44
    iPad 2, iPad
    £206.44

  • What to do with a broken original iPad?

Is there anything that can be done with an original iPad if it doesnt work?  It was dropped and the video card was loosened.  I know this because it happend with another of our iPads.  The screen was distorted and when though a few different colors then finally the display died.  Anything I can do with it? I checked the recycle option but they said it was worth $0.  It has a few scratches on the casing too.

it may not make financial  sense but you could get an
out of warranty exchange for $249 if "a like new " iPad
could be gift or what ever

  • What is up with wireless on iPod Touch?

    Hi,
My daughter got an iPod touch for Christmas and I have been fighting the wireless ever since. It connects to my access point. I can get to google but not other sites. Could get to the apple store but couldn't download the facebook app. So I downloaded it through iTunes and can get her on facebook but she can't post. E-mail is also spotty. She can intermittently receive e-mails but doesn't seem to be able to send.
I have been all over google trying to figure this out but no luck other than everyone ********. BTW, the Firmware is 3.1.2 (7D11).
Please don't tell me 100 different ways to reboot my access point (router) or anything else as I am sitting here surrounded by 3 laptops and a netbook that have NO issues.
Is is 3.1.2? Should I downgrade?
Thanks if anyone can actually help me. (BTW I don't know if this thing is a 1G or 2G as I don't know how to tell).

Downgrading to an earlier OS isn't going to help you at all. Taking the attitude that "everything else is working so you shouldn't have to do anything with your network" isn't going to help you either. But if you don't mind doing a bit of work, you can get everything working.
The latest firmware versions of iPod touches put a premium on having modern routers with up to date firmware installed. However, router's, just like every other piece of electronics with a processor in it, do benefit from a good reboot once in a while. Surely you can unplug the power to your router for 30 seconds to see if you can get the touch to connect better. You might find that this simple action improves all of your device connectivity. Your choice, however.
My usual advice is to power cycle the router, reset the network settings on the touch, and log back into the network using Settings > WiFi > other and re-entering the information. Sometimes I encourage people to get rid of WEP and replace it with WPA-psk or WPA2-psk which are more secure and easier to implement. Again, your choice.
And finally, if connection problems persist, I recommend that people download and install the latest router firmware for their model.

  • What is wrong with my 30gb Ipod Video?

while i was updating my ipod, i restarted it, believing that it was frozen. At that time, there was the apple logo on the screen with a bar under it. After i restarted it, i was unable to turn it back on. i tried plugging it to my computer but it wouldnt recognize it and show up at all, even in itunes. in addition, the logo does not appear when i do this, even when i try charging it. I tried charging it on an outlet overnight but nothing happened. I tried to restart it again but it remains the same, off. I have done some research and some people concluded that my ipod is "bricked". is it? and is it possible to repair it?
