What to do with expired trial InDesign 5.5, InDesign 5, and upgrade to 5.5

I have an expired trial version of InDesign 5.5 and fully registerable legal copies of InDesign 5 and the upgrade to 5.5. Does anyone know if I can use the product registration information for the 5 and upgrade to 5.5 so that I can activate and continue using the application already installed?
If I can't, I've read that the uninstall process can be problematic and I should run a clean-up script afterward, neither of which I've ever done.
Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Okay, thanks, but I'm really a dunce about how this works. If I install the CS5 upgrade and use the serial number on the CS5 to activate it, am I left with an inactive trial version in addition to the new?
Hi, folks:
This is the downside of zealous, passionate, enthusiastic, and well-meant forum support. Sometimes, as now, somewhere along the line, a key piece of info was either not supplied or was overlooked, resulting in reverberating "delta" suggestions (delta, here, meaning, adding onto, or modifying, what's already present,) rather than whole thoughts and sentences.
I this the question is: How will an installed CS5.5 trial behave when given a serial number for a CS5.5 upgrade on a machine where no CS5 has been installed? The hope is that it will prompt for a valid CS5 serial number, or a valid CS5 disk, then proceed to validate the trial with the update's serial number.
The goal is to avoid having to uninstall the CS5.5 trial, to be able to install a full CS5 without any collisions with the installed CS5.5 trial, then install the CS5.5 upgrade.
The answer seems to be that nobody knows for sure, or that whoever does, either isn't on this thread, or is holding out.
I surely don't know.
I hope this helps to clarify the question.

  • Import Output Modules to render slaves with expired trial

    Hello, I intend to launch network render jobs through the command line in Windows 7, ie., not with Watch Folder feature but by passing command lines directly to aerender.exe.
    The problem is that I need to create new Output Module settings for the render job and pass it on to my render slaves. The slaves are installed in trial mode which now have expired, so I am not able to open up full After Effects and import an .aom file. And I have not figured out a way to do the same thing with just the Render Engine as the menu option is disabled no matter what I do.
    I thought that copying the preference files from my workstation to the render slaves would give them the new Output Modules as I read that these settings are stored in the preference files somehow, but the render still complains about missing modules if I try.
    I have 'almost' solved the whole thing by temporarily register the expired versions with my serial, import the .aom (or recreate the template from scratch), and then deactivate AE into trial mode again.
    However I noticed a strange behaviour when doing this which I cannot figure out. I had previously put a ae_render_only_node.txt into \Users\Public\Documents\Adobe to force it into Render Engine mode, but it seems like the aerender.exe can no longer find the new Output Module I just created when ae_render_only_node.txt is present in that folder.
    As soon as i remove ae_render_only_node.txt the aerender.exe renders fine, but with the file present it just won't find the new module on any of the slaves. I guess it works for as long as the "new" trial period is active (by registering and deactivating I got 30 days trial mode again.) But once this trial is over I am forced to use ae_render_only_node.txt to make the slaves render, no?
    It is perhaps so that using the standard way of network rendering through Watch Folder will avoid this issue, but the reason is that we are designing custom network render tools that use aerender.exe because of simplicity, speed and reliability compare to Watch Folder.
    In this case it would have been so much easier if Render Settings and Output Modules would have been stored as an ordinary XML or INI file which could be transfered between systems and edited with simple external text editing tools.
    Right now it seems like this won't be a problem for me during these next 30 days, but after that I fear that my custom Output Module settings will no longer be recognized.
    Is there any solution to this?

    >The most likely culprit is the h.264 Quicktime. It should have never been included as an option. It doesn't even work well in Quicktime Pro or in Final Cut...
    I'll come to Apple's (partial) defense here:
    Their H.264 codec was written and released at a time when it was difficult to imagine that mainstream computers would have as many CPUs as they do now, so it's somewhat understandable that the severe failures that this codec has with large numbers of threads occurs. Of course, we may all wish that Apple hadn't decided to end development on the QuickTime platform, since this has meant that bugs like this are likely to persist.
    That said, this is why we increasingly recommend that people use other H.264 codecs and not use QuickTime for such things. See the H.264 options currently in Adobe Media Encoder.

  • What is up with Apple's Network not supporting Network scanning and even Ne

    Hello.
    I have a HP 3210 Network printer/scanner. After upgrading from my LinkSys router to a Time Capsule I now find that my HP Network scanning capability is dead. Apple tech support has admitted that they don't support scanning nor even some network printers on the Time Capsule, airport & Airport express. Apple won't even give me enough details on the issue so I can talk intelligently with HP???
    What is up with that? That is completely unacceptable. I can print to my printer, I can browse the built-in web server (and scan interestingly enough using the web server), but when you try and run the HP scanning client it indicates it can't communicate with the printer/scanner.
    Any ideas out there? I'm really disappointed.

    What is the deal here?
    Easily explained: On or about 24 July the entire discussions.apple.com web site was moved to servers running Windows Vista Enterprise OS. The site was compromised approximately 6 seconds later by a group of Romanian hackers believed to be funded by Nigerian Internet scammers who had millions of dollars in credit to play with when hundreds of thousands of victims sent them their credit card numbers to pay what they thought were nominal fees to get some of the 100,000 missing iPhones sold the first week but according to AT&T never activated. Supposedly, a malfunction in a mail router or address machine (the story varies) inadvertently sent all these phones to a mid-ranking Nigerian official who needed financial assistance with getting them out of the country.
    Well, either that or the site is still controlled by Apple & has been undergoing extensive changes which, shall we say, have not yet been completely sorted out, much in the same way that Iraq has not ....

    went to verizon store today to replace my iphone 4 with a 5 and they told me dont buy one they are really bad and you will be unhappy, what is up with that?

    What's up is that the Verizon sales rep either doesn't know what he/she is talking about, has misinformation and has formed an incorrect opinion based on that, or quite possibily is getting a bonus or other pressure to sell other, less popular phones that they have too many of. Many millions of people are very happy with their iPhone 5s.

    Can I update to Mavericks without any problems for CS6 Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and Acrobat Pro X?

    I can't guarantee it, but I think it's very likely you'll have no problems. Mavericks is now up to 10.9.3, and it's extremely stable.

    No, that 10.6.3 DVD is system specific to the MacBook Pro.
    You need a Snow Leopard Upgrade > Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.)

  • Backup Database From SQL Server 2014 with expired trial period.

    Hi,
    Looking for some advice. I created a database on a SQL Server 2014 Trial Version i downloaded from the Microsoft website. Our company bought a license for SQL Server 2012 instead of 2014, how can i migrate my database to 2012 without the ability to connect
    to my 2014 Server or Management studio (Because the trial period has expired)?
    Thank You.

    Hi,
    Alternatively, you can stop SQL Services and then locate the mdf & ldf file copy these files to new location.
    Now you try to attach above files in new server.
    Sorry little correction
    I dint pay attention to 2014 to 2012, in this case you need to attach these files on SQL Server 2014 then generate script and execute these script on 2012.
    Please refer following article on how to attach database.

  • What's wrong with a "regular" global in this case? AND WIl ActiveX objects stored in functional globals remain valid (when used in an executable)?

    I've written a plugin layer for a LV executable.  When this layer makes a call to the plugins' initialization functions, I want each plugin library to be able to initialize and maintain its own global memory (where things like VISA resource names or ActiveX objects are stored).  However, I've found that I can't manage to keep my global VIs "alive."  I'm inclined to switch to functional globals, but I suspect that this will be a problem for things like ActiveX objects (that in this particular case reference a CAN interface).  I believe that the functional global will indeed store the object from run to run, it's just that I'm somehow disinclined to think that the object will remain valid.  I think you'll have to re-initialize it.  Can anyone speak for or against this hunch?  (If you can't tell, I'm trying to avoid building a whole little test executable just to debug this problem.)
    I suppose the more profound question is "Why don't the globals stay in memory?"  I'm attaching an image of what the application layer that calls the plugins' intializations looks like.  Next I'm attaching an example of an actual initialization routine.  You'll notice that I've even gone so far as to explicitly open the ref to the global VI that I want to keep in memory.  Then I just leave it there dangling - but it still gets dropped!  In my mind I shouldn't even have to do this, since the dynamically-called subVI "MC_CMO Init.vi" actually initializes the globals and runs with AutoDisposeRef = False.
    Lastly, this is my first-ever attempt at writting plugin software.  So if you look at my code and have any criticisms/pointers, I'll greatly appreciate them.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

    I am not sure if I follow you completely on your work-around.
    Everything I have to say on this topic is based on obesrvations and threads I have read on Info-LabVIEW. Therefore it is subject to corecttion by those who know better.
    LV is smart enough to know when "something" that had been opened, can be closed. It is not perfect.
    If for instance you open a VISA refnum and pass the refnum  to a LV2 AS A REFNUM the refnum in the LV2 stay alive as long as the VI's are running.
    If you start another VI that uses the LV2 to fetch the refnum, it should get a valid ref as long as it starts before the first goes idle.
    You then be able to work with refnum usign the VI launched second as long as stays active.
    I often create action engine that can be invoked where required throughout an application. If the action engines get a ref in one state (like init) and use it another, I will generally write a "tester" that calls the action engine action to test the engine. In this case, my "tester" stays live and it keeps the ref's fresh.
    I suspect if you tried to trick LV you could. If you type cast the ref nums to I32 and stored those in a LV2, I could see how LV could loose track of the resource sharing, but that is something I would avoid.
    So I encourage you to do some experimenting with keeping track of who's running when to see if your work-around will work.
    If you think you understand it better than I explained it, please post.

  • What loops come with version 8? Looking to replace Garageband and Soundtrak

    I am looking to replace Garageband 08 and Soundtrack 1.5 with Logic Express 8. Should I save those audio libraries or does LE 8 have it's own or duplicate?
    Thanks, Ed

    Hi,
    I'm pretty sure that, whatever you have available to you in Garageband, is also available in E8 so, yeah, E8 is pulling from the same loops. I can't really be sure if E8 has extra loops simply because I've bought and/or downloaded so many loops over the past year or so that I've pretty much lost track of what were the original loops. What I can tell you is that they are much better organized in LE8. For instance I bought some drum loops from "Drums on Demand" and in the media section of LE8 they're listed under "Drums on Demand" which garageband and LE7 did not do. There was nothing in the literature stating that LE8 came with extra loops. Pro 8, however, comes with the first 5 jam packs included. That pretty good when you figure that that's nearly $500.00 worth of loops plus all the other extra stuff you get with Logic Pro Studio and it's only $299.00 more. The reason I didn't go pro is that I already have the sounds, plugins and loops that I need for the music that I do so, for me personally, Pro would just have been overkill. But if I ever get tired of my external synth the I might ditch it, buy a controller and go with Logic Pro Studio. It's nice to have the option at such a reasonable price.

  • What's up with this-QT file showing up in FFox and Opera and not in Safari

    I am using the latest version of Dreamweaver (Adobe) and have embedded a quicktime file on a page such that it successfully shows up (via DW preview in browser feature) and plays in FireFox (latest version) and Opera (latest version). It's not showing up, though, in Safari. When I look at the code in Safari, the entire coding for displaying the file has disappeared; when I look at the page code under the other browsers, though - it's right there (and hence displays the file properly).
    Ok - I give up. What is up here???!!

    Ok, here is the original code in the HTML for just the quicktime file that's embedded:
    <td colspan="2" align="center" valign="middle" bgcolor="#333333" height="576">
    <script type="text/javascript">
    ACAXRunContent( 'classid','clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B','codebase','http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab','name','Temple Ci\'um Film','width','640','height','496','src','TS CIUM WIP.mov','controller','true','autoplay','false','pluginspage','http://www.apple.com/QuickTime/download/' ); //end AC code
    </script><noscript><object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" name="Temple Ci'um Film" width="640" height="496">

    </object>
    </noscript>
    </td>
    Here is the code I see when I PREview it in Safari using DW (where the file appears to have not been embedded at all):
    <td colspan="2" align="center" valign="middle" bgcolor="#333333" height="576">
    <script type="text/javascript">
    ACAXRunContent( 'classid','clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B','codebase','http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab','name','Temple Ci\'um Film','width','640','height','496','src','TS CIUM WIP.mov','controller','true','autoplay','false','pluginspage','http://www.apple.com/QuickTime/download/' ); //end AC code

    </td>
    So - what do you think happened here?
    Again, FireFox and Opera display the embedded file just fine.

  • Anyone's experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign CS2 and Leapord?

    We are going to upgrade to Leapord early next week, but are wondering of anyone has experienced any problems with Adobe's CS2 versions. Adobe says that CS3 will mostly work and will have future updates--but said nothing about CS2 that I can find.
    My wife is in college and uses those programs pretty heavily. She also needs time machine as she often loses files.
    Please let me if anyone has had any good or bad experiences.
    Thanks!

    So far so good with CS2, but I have not had to time to really test it in depth.
    Installed Leopard onto an external hard drive connected to my iMac. If I have problems I can always boot back into Tiger from the internal drive. Once I feel safe the CS2 works fine with Leopard I will install it on the internal drive. I also have a mirror backup of the internal drive on a different external drive than the one with Leopard installed, double backup for now.
    PS: The newer versions FileMaker were reportedly not compatible. I am still using version 7.5 which seems to work fine under Leopard.
    I am fixing to get ready to install Leopard on the G4 iBook. Doing a backup of that hard drive first.
