What to do with workgroup computers?

Hi,
We do deploy workgroup computers with OSD. This computers is nothing we support after they have been installed. The problem is that this computer objects is left in sccm. Some times I delete them, but they show up again. I have som exlution Collection with
this workgroup computer in. But in general i Think it is ennoying to have them when i work with client Health and so on.
What to do with workgroup computers? What options do I have to get rid of this workgroup objects?
/SaiTech

Hi,
in short: there are two main reasons why the workgroup client shows up in the ConfigMgr console.
1) the installed SCCM Client
2) the discovery method
you need to make sure the sccm client is not installed on the workgroup clients and that they are not part of a discovery process.

  • Device Collections with Workgroup Computers

    Hi all,
I'm having some trouble with creating device collections for workgroup computers.
I made a collection for all workgroup computers which works great.
I also made two collections dividing the workgroup computers; one with the x86 based computers and the other one with the x64-based computers. I'm having trouble with both collections as it doens't detect a single computer.
If I make a collection for all domain x64 or x86 computers it works like a charm.
    Workgroup x64 Computers: (doens't work)
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup = "WERKGROEP" and SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.SystemType = "x64-based PC"
    Workgroup x86 Computers: (doens't work)
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup = "WERKGROEP" and SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.SystemType = "x86-based PC"
    All Workgroup Computers: (works)
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup = "WERKGROEP"
    Cheers

I also tried to select x64-based and x86-based computers based on my All Workgroup Computers collection (limiting collection). But that also didn't work out:
Workgroup x64 Computers on limiting collection All Workgroup Computers: (doesn't work)
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.SystemType = "x64-based PC"

  • Issue with workgroup computers not getting software/windows updates

i have a workgroup computer that we successfully got the client on and is talking back to SCCM with active heartbeat, etc.  but when i'm pushing windows updates through SCCM it just checks in as active client in monitoring.  It never downloads
the updates and installs them.  any reason?

i checked these and these stopped on jan 30th recording information saying CTM job suspended on the contentTransferManager.log and Error: Delete Directory- Failed to delete directory with error 0x00000003 and next line says same thing just after directory
    says c:\windows\ccmcache\2.bcwork with error 0x00000002
    Releasing content request .
But there is nothing in the ccmcache folder. and the other logs in the CCM folder are updating pretty much except for a handful like these 2.

  • What to do with old Computers...

He should have opened up the cup holders on his Lenovo armrests and set a cup of ale on one.

Damn I wish I had that much free time on my hands. For me it wouldn't be an issue of getting fired so much as being murdered by the towers for not being able to carefully construct them in such a manner I didn't break my neck trying to sit on it. Cudos to you Sir. Your job must be nice....

I have a bunch of .pmd files that I have to have access to.. I am trying to convert to .pdf. what is the easiest way to do this with updated computers?

Then you can’t do anything with those files. Even opening them in InDesign would yield very unpredictable results.
You’d need to find an old machine running nothing later than Windows XP and then buy a copy of PM which is like lighting money on fire.
That said, someone might come along willing to help out but just exactly how many is a bunch?

What software should I upgrade to on an iBook G4 running OS 10.4.1 that is still capable with the computers hardware capabilities?

The reason I ask is that I have just gotten an iPhone 4S and with the 10.4.1 software I'm running now, it doesn't allow my iTunes to update to the newer version.  Therefore, being stuck with an older version of iTunes, it refuses to recognize the new iPhone and will only charge it rather then be able to add music to it.

Two workarounds below (Not acceptable solutions)
*I can add a pause script after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr sequence, wait 5-10 minutes and the applications will install. I assume this is because the CM client has time to fully provision.
    * I can add the anon ‘IUSR’ account to the local administrators group on the DP and all applications install (without the pause script mentioned above). I can reproduce the issue repeatedly by removing and adding the anon account.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated…
Also, I come from a CM 2007 background and somewhat new to CM 2012. Should WebDAV and/or URL Authorization be installed and configured on the DP? According to MS tech support “No”. However, I’ve seen several SCCM 2012 guides on the web that say it should
    be installed.

    David K. Harrison

Locationservices.log, CIDownloader.log, CIagent.log, DataTransferService.log also need to be checked. We need to find out what credential the Client trys to use when it downloads content from DP.

  • Network Access Account, used by only Workgroup Computers or Domain Computers also?

Our environment has a few servers that are in a workgroup (not ideal, but is an application requirement on these few boxes) rather than being on the domain.  We have to patch these servers routinely and would like to use SCCM 2012 to do so.  As
I understand it all that is needed is to configure the Network Access Account for the site and install the client manually on the workgroup computers, correct?  My next question is, do the domain computers continue to use their computer accounts to access
network locations during content deployment or will they too use the newly configured  network access account?  Or, does the client first attempt to use its computer account and if that fails then results to using the SCCM Network Access Account?
I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find this info.  Thanks in advance if you can point me in the right direction.

    Hi,
I haven't seen any table like this for the Configuration Manager 2012 so this is for 2007, I haven't heard of any changes to this and the conclusion is that the account is used more often than you would think depending on what you are doing with the client.

  • Login Scripts with managed computers

I'm using workgroup manager with computer groups and I want to have a specific script running everytime people login into the client computers.
The problem is : When i select the computer group or the computer itself in workgroup manager and then Preferences > Login > Scripts, i can't upload my script 'cause it's marked grey by the browsing window.
I've checked my script, it's a shell script and it's executable but still...
I've tried with an AppleScript but same story.
How can i make a script compatible with workgroup manager ?

Thanks for the hit, adding .hook extension make the script selectable from WGM, however nothing happens after login with one client computer.
Is there anybody who actually succeeded to use the script option in WGM ?
I want to mount a folder automaticaly after login in specific computers :
    So i wrote a shell script :
    makedir /Volumes/Directory
    mount_afp afp://192.168.220.1/Directory /Volumes/Directory
Saved the script with the .hook extension, made it executable, checked it on the client computer : it works, changed com.apple.loginwindow.plist in the client computer but still nothing !
I don't know what's wrong ?! I'm tired of trying, it's so difficult with OS X compared to Windows and bash script... I'm kind of giving up...

  • How does sccm access admin shares on workgroup computers???

Hey guys, how does sccm access admin shares on workgroup computers??? I know that in software distribution component i can add domain account that is used by client to access dp's and stuff. I have some workgroup computers that have client installed
manually by someone who has access to sccm server with domain account. But that is only used for install but what about later?

    Hi,
the SCCM Site server will never access the client directly only when you use Client Push and in client push settings you can define local administrator accounts and passwords to try as well when you push out the client.
If you install the sccm client manually you don't have to worry about access to any shares on workgroup computers.

  • How to sync with two computers not at the same time, I'm registerd with one computer

How to sync with two computers (not at the same time), I'm registered with one computer and am trying to connect with second computer with same iPhone. To sync the first time with the second PC "Firefox Sync Option tells me Create New account or Connect, when I connect it gives me a Passcode and on iPhone it also gives me a Passcode, than how do I connect? Both the iPhone and PC gives me a Passcode and have now idea what to do with them.
Where do I find my Sync Key ? so I can install manually if it works ?

Use the Sync Key ''(Recovery Key)'' from the PC that you used to initially setup your Firefox Sync service, when setting up that 2nd PC with Sync. You need to use '''Add a device''' to setup the 2nd and subsequent devices on a Sync account. <br />

  • Using my ipod with multiple computers: not the usual problem I think

I've searched the forum and various help documents but I couldn't find the answer to this.
I have a laptop at the office (work-related, so I don't have any of my music on it, just itunes) and my computer at home. Ideally I'd like to:
= keep my ipod automatically synced to my home computer
= be able to connect my ipod to my work laptop and play the music stored on it through itunes there, and also keep it charged and ready for the trip home.
It seems that the 'manually manage music and videos' setting travels with the ipod, rather than being stored on the computer's itunes installation. If I set it at work, so I can play music there, when I connect the ipod at home I have to reset it (and a few times when I did so the ipod started deleting everything because 'sync my music' was not checked, grrr).
I just want to set things up in a way so that when I connect my ipod at work it will let me play whatever songs I have there (without wanting to sync anything), and when I connect it at home it will automatically update it. It's simple enough, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
If I connect the ipod at work and press 'cancel' when the 'do you want to erase things' pops up, it doesn't try to change the settings, but at the same time it doesn't let me play music at all, everything is greyed out
does anybody have any idea? I don't want to resort to have to buy a usb power adapter just so that I can play my ipod at work without draining the battery...

    B_Ram wrote:
Could it be because its an iPhone and not a true iPod???
    i doubt it.
actually, syncing an iPod Touch (or iPhone) with multiple computers is not recommended @ all. click here to find out what Apple has to say about it.
all i can think of, i you really must do that, is this:
to prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod - hold down the option and the command ( on a PC that would be the shift and ctrl ) keys when plugging in the ipod - keep pressing the keys until the iPod is listed under the devices list in iTunes. now you should be able to do what you want.
however, you do so @ your own peril, as the article above outlined.
alternatively, consider a setup such as this.
    good luck !

  • Help with two computers, two accounts on one apple tv

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on an apple tv to add to my building home theater system. My biggest desire in getting the apple tv is mainly for music streaming to my speaker system. So here is my question. My wife and I both have our own separate itunes accounts, separate itunes libraries on our own macbooks. My question is if it will be a problem to access both of those itunes libraries through the apple tv. I have the remote app for my iphone and can control both of our libraries with that, and can switch between both easily on the iphone, but will the apple tv be able to play different libraries without difficulty? I don't know if i need to set up home sharing because both libraries are currently on different accounts, so i don't even know if it's possible.
Any help, suggestions, or ideas would be appreciated.

JKStraw - but you understand that when you use the appleTV you can stream from a computer without "taking over" the iTunes on that computer?
there are two mode for streaming to an appleTV..
    1) you can stream what is being played on a computer's iTunes Library through airPlay and remote control the iTunes on the computer with the remote app
    OR
    2) you can just access the files in a computers iTunes Library from the appleTV without affecting the computer at all.. you could be playing a song on iTunes or not on the computer and be playing a completely different song on your appleTV.. you just enable home sharing on the appleTV and computer.. from appleTV you just go computers > +the name of the iTunes Library+ and you can access all your songs, video etc on that computer without affecting that computer at all..
on the remote app you can link to an appleTV and 1) just use gestures to navigate the appleTV or 2) skip the appleTV GUI altogether and view what's available directly from the remote app.. click on something and it plays.. again this in no way affects what's happening on the computers the appleTV is linked to..

  • Advice on how i can set up an office network with 40 computers.

I am planning on setting up an office network with 40 computers. What do you think is the best way i can do this? Thank you in advance.

Your first step should be to call an IT professional who has experience with this type of thing. He will need to survey the entire area and ask you dozens of questions about how you want things to operate. Then, he will present you with a proposal for the network listing all of the things that the system can and and cannot do.
Your second step would be to call another IT professional who has experience with this type of thing and go through the same procedure.
Your third step would be the same as the first and second.
Your fourth step would be to check the references provided in the steps 1-3 and then decide on which professional that you want to use.
