What to make for begginers to AS3?

Well, I'am new to AS3 but I want to make stuff that would be a challenge for me to make.
I need ideas for what to make. But for the moment I don't feel like creating games. Just like any cool stuff that isn't games.
Remember, I'm only a beginner, but give me some of your ideas and that would be great!

Try making a tool that might be useful to your and/or your family, like a scheduler/calendar.  Or maybe an image gallery where you can also add images along with a story re;ated to the picture, with features for editing that and./or changing the image.  Other than that, visit gooandlearn.com and look thru all the tutorials there and pick out something that captures your interest and level of difficulty.

  • What is AS2 for Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE (AS3)?

    Hi,
I am used to AS3 and am translating back to AS2.  I want to check if something has been removed from the stage.  In AS3, I used this:
    obj.addEventListener(Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE, objRemovedFromStageHandler);
How can I do this in AS2?
I have been trying to use the delegate class to set up an onEnterFrame event that I can then remove.  I have this working with events for button clicks etc but not onEnterFrame.  Well, i can get it working, but how do I set it up so I can remove a specific onEnterFrame, as I need to use multiple onEnterFrame throughout the script?
    Any suggestions very welcome.
    Many thanks,
    Mike

in as2 you can just check if the object exists:
    if(obj)
    but no event is dispatched.
if it does it's either on-stage or on the back-stage which you can check if needed.

  • "Make Link"  What is it for in Safari?

Highlight the URL in Safari Toolbar (and Camino) and right click on the selection and the second item in the contextual menu is "Make Link"
How is this used and what's it for?
It does not appear to be documented?

    Thanks for the response.
I'm familiar with the typical Textedit use but it seems strange that someone would have inserted code for a menu item that doesn't do anything.
In TextEdit, and I assume applications using the same core technology, the feature of links shows up clearly in the same format. The Safari/Camino use of the term shows up in a different place so I assume someone had to be intentional about including it?
    Thanks.

I did that link you refer to me (manually and using camera). But still nothing happens, always prompted "not properly activated" or "invalid code". And i did follow the instructions how to send an issue/problems/case regarding itunes card code query.
    My apology dude.
I did change country/region, itunes store country, apple id, but still prompting FAILURE "The Gift Certificate or Prepaid Card you entered has not been properly activated." Does it mean it needs to activate by Apple Inc. before i can use it? If that's the case, everytime i buy an itunes card, i need to go Apple Support? Is that so?
Please help me dude regarding this matter, i know you're well knowledgeable about apple systems.
    Thanks in advance.

You are not addressing Apple here.
No, once you install iOS 7 that is it.

  • What has caused an app I purchased (Family Tree Maker for Mac) and currently have installed, to disappear from the Mac Store. Does this mean it is no longer sold?  If so, how will I get update notices or re-download if needed?

I purchased and installed Family Tree Maker for Mac from the App Store about 6 months ago.  I heard that possibly a new version was coming, though I had not received any update notice.  I went to the App Store and it no longer shows the app, either as available for purchase or as an app I have previously purchased.  So I can't get any information on the app, support, etc..  How can an app I have purchased disappear from the purchased list???  How can I get update information or support links? (contacted FTM website and phone support and they said if I bought my program from App store, I have to get update information there).....the Update Info button in my program is actually greyed out!!  So the program I bought doesn't even have the normal update link!!  I thought one of the advantages of App Store purchase was being able to redownload the program in the unlikely event it was lost....ie: no need to worry about having the install CD.  So now I only have my installed, operating copy and no way to reinstall if it crashes due to corrupt data, etc.!!  Not a happy result from an App Store purchase!  And I must say the circular references in the support link are frustarting...apparently there is NO live support for the App Store itself!

Thanks for THAT tip: iTunes acct. history DOES show my (few) Mac app purchases, buried in with my MANY iPhone and iPad apps!  So I CAN prove I bought it (7 months ago, not 6), but you wouldn't know it from the App Store app on my Mac!  But that does leave a few other ?'s hanging: like how could I download it again, or check for updates (as I said, the version installed has the "update" button greyed out!  Ancestry.com (who sells it online and support it for other buyers said update info for App Store purchasers comes through the App Store.
I may just be out of luck with this because after 7 months of ownership, they (Ancestry) just replaced FTM with a new version (Family Tree Maker for Mac2) that is NOT an upgrade (though prior owners get $4.00 off on a $52.00 purchase!!).  I'll probably just plump for that....direct from Ancestry.com...and give up on the Mac App Store, because the new version reportedly has major enhancements in sync-ing your family history record between your computer and the cloud program available online.  Genealogy software, like everything else is migrating to the cloud, but one really does need a resident program on their device because you're often collecting data "in the field" in libraries, historical archives, cemeteries, etc. where you really can't get online in many cases.  Fortunately, more and more of the source data is coming online, so more and more can be done from home!

  • HT3702 How do I get details of what charges were for to make sure they are mine?

There are many charges on my latest credit card bill for iTunes NZ Cork IRL for 07 September, 09 September , 15 September , 18th September, 19 & 20 September, 24 25 & 26 September.
How donI find out what these were for?

If you log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases (the most recent purchase is above the list). I'm not sure if auto-renewing subscriptions show on there. If you can't find the charge or don't recognise it then you can contact iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • What to look for in free fonts?

I want to download some free fonts (I am a student) to use for some 300ppi print pieces and am wondering what to look for in a free font to determine whether it will print nicely at a high quality. What makes a good quality font? I know there is lots of garbage out there though there are also many good quality free fonts.
    Thanks.

This is not remotely a Photoshop question.

  • I just installed XQuartz to run a program and I want to know what it is for

I am aware that X11 XQuartz is necessary for a program to run so I installed it but then it asked me to log out and then log back in. It also said it was a windows server. Does that mean XQuartz replaced the default windows server in OSX Mavericks? Is there any risk to this? I don't want to run this program that much and I don't want to risk any other programs not working correctly because of a different library. I would uninstall it if there is a risk.
BTW I obviously don't know much about what this is or what it does.

I did know what it was for. When I attempted to open the software, Inkscape in this case, OSX displayed a prompt that said the software I was trying to run needed it a newer version of X11 called XQuartz. I then verified this information online before installing it.
BUT once I installed XQuartz it popped up this dialog saying, "You will need to log out and log back in to make XQuartz your default X11 server."
Which is why I posted here.

  • Studio Monitors - what to look for...

I'm going to say this right now - I'm NOT asking "hey, whats the best studio monitors I can get for x dollars." That's not what I'm interested in.
What I AM interested in is what TO look for, and what NOT to look for in buying a new set of stereo monitors.
I've decided I'd like to upgrade my studio monitors. I'm mixing on a pair of Event TR8 XL monitors - they're great, but i know there's better out there. I spent about $600 on the pair.
At this point, my limited knowledge of monitors only allow me to assume that more expensive means better, but I don't understand WHY, or what to look for. So, my question is this. What is more money buying me? Are there brands that are more or less reputable than others?
I'm really looking for general, or specific, advice on shopping for new monitors. Help me make an educated decision, there are too **** many monitors out there to choose from.
For what it's worth, I'd like to keep it under 1k. I'm interested in active near-fields, good for mixing, with decent clarity and few gimiks. Granted, nothing beats getting into a GC and listening to a few (which I intend to do in the next day or two), but I need a little more to go on when I take a look at these in person and listen to some of my mixes on them.
    Thanks!
    Chris

To add to the previous poster, I have a pair of old NS10's and I use them because I'm used to how they sound and how their sound translates to several other of my references, i.e. my SET/Bottlehead listening system, my car CD player, my table radio. One reason a studio owner would buy say Genelecs or Mackie HR 824's is because they have become somewhat of a standard and like the NS10's of 15 years ago, people know what they're getting once you're used the way mixes translate from them to other systems. That being said, get the Mackies, or Dynaudio BM5A's. Both those seem to be widely accepted and studio proven. That's a good place to start.

  • What to look for when purchasing external display

    Hey everyone,
First and foremost I want to say I am a web developer and graphic designer so what I am looking for is a display (not too big) 20" - 23" TV OR Monitor. This way when I am developing I am not making things HUGE so i can see them while other viewers can't. I have seen the display on a 30" screen and no that isn't going ot work.
I am now searching for an external display for my newly built office but I don't know what to look for besides DVI support. What resolution do I need to make sure it goes to? There is just so many options when looking at TVs or Monitors..
    any input?

DVI support is a must and most LCDs in the size that you are looking for are going to have it.
Your MB can drive a display with a resolution of up to 1920 x 1200 which just happens to be the resolution of the 23" Apple Cinema HD Display. I didn't want to pay Apple prices for a display, so I went looking at Dell. I picked up a 20" 2007WFP display from them for about $360 shipped and it works like a charm with the Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter.
I prefer displays that use a S-IPS panel over the more common and cheaper TN panels. S-IPS is much better for color reproduction and that is why Apple uses them in their Cinema Displays. Dell uses the same panel is some of their 20" models - I got one - but some buyers are very upset that they got a TN panel instead of the S-IPS panel. I was lucky I guess.

  • Buying Used iMac - What to look for?

    Hello,
I'm a devoted mac user. I currently own a late 2008 unibody Macbook, and have been looking for an upgrade. I came across a used iMac posting on a craigslist-like website. The configuration is a low-end mid-2011 21" iMac (quad core i5, 4gb, 500gb).
I asked the seller for the serial number and checked it out the support site. The warranty is due to run out on Thursday, just enough time for me to buy extended AppleCare. The price seems reasonable (approx $730 whereas a new iMac is $1200), and I've asked to see the iMac in person tomorrow. I wanted to know what to look for when making the final decision.
Also do you think I should hold out for an Ivy Bridge iMac (rumoured to be coming soon??) or will it not make a difference for normal coding/browsing (no photo/video editing/gaming)? One factor discouraging me is that Apple has hitched up the prices for the newly released Macbooks here in India (the base 13" pro used to be $1250, now $1530!!!).
    Thanks a lot!

Oh! Had no idea about this... how does one release the account? I mean, is there a way i can check it on the machine itself? The applecare site doesn't show any registration info.
    Thanks!!

  • Any suggestions for what to look for in a good production monitor?

I'm in the market for a production monitor and I'm looking at B&H's online catalogue now. Any tips on what to look for and if anyone has any recommendations or favorites? Thanks.

it would help if you could determine a budget and then shop for models within or slightly above that budget.
basically, some necessary items are switchable aspect ratio, underscan/overscan and then some sort of blue check for proper chroma and phase calibration. some monitors have a gray scale blue check which i think completely blows. it's better to have a monitor with viewable red, blue and green guns as the blue gun is more accurate for calibration than a grayscale blue check feature. also, there are other diagnostic functions that are viewable by using the red or green guns to view color bars.
some other nice features to have are horizontal/vertical delay, sdi inputs, hd-sdi inputs.
it's been mentioned in the last larry jordan newsletter than the crt monitor is going the way of the dinosaur and now sony and panasonic are marketing lcd products only. i think this is a very sad trend. as a freelance video operator/camera shader, i am of the opinion that lcd monitors are horrible; they hurt my eyes and the color rendition isn't as accurate as a crt. leitch is now manufacturing an lcd scope which is just terrible to behold. the black area of the vectorscope is a huge, amorphous blob of white light that shows no signal detail whatsoever.
i don't know what to make of larry's statement as a quick check of the sony business website reveals only bvm crt's in their product lineup, no more pvm series. i haven't looked at the panasonic product catalog yet.
although the sony pvm L5 that shane mentioned is a quality product, to my eyes, i would get an ikegami monitor but you'll find that the superior imaging of the ikegami also has a superior price point.
one last point, don't buy an used monitor from ebay, you don't know where it's been or how it's been treated. give jvc monitors a fair shake as well, not a bad product for the price, no matter what their reputation is.
    good luck.

  • External drives... whats the best for video.... ?

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to figure out what the best bang for the buck is in regards to external drives, and what works best for video.
I have considered the LaCie enclosures, I have also considered buying a 500 GB SATA to replace the 200 GB second drive I have inside the G5. The issue than is what enclosure works the best with a MAC and is 1394 and will the firm ware support huge video files, for render or exporting?
Can anyone give some advice based on what they have learned through past experience.
    Thanks

I've been using LaCie FW (800 & 400) drives for about three years now with only one problem - One of the first drives I bought (I think it was a 120 GB) fried itself a few months ago. I currently have 80GB, 120 GB, 400GB and 500 GB drives, all working fine, never have dropped frames. The LaCie drives are pretty tough too, as I've sent most of them back and forth across the country at least a few times with no problems.
However, be careful if you update the firmware for them - make sure the drive is clean as the firmware update can cause corruption of data on the drive (I found that out the hard way!). Also keep in mind that they do put off a fair amount of heat (especially the big ones) so I wouldn't consider stacking them on top of each other horizontally.

  • I find dotted circles in my text.  I don't know how they got there or what they're for.

I find dotted circles in my text.  I don't know how they got there or what they're for.  These dotted "o" characters print out, too.

Thanks for taking the time to suggest the screen shot.  Actually, I neglected to say that I was working in a Thai font and, after posting my question, it dawned on me that I should check the keyboard template again.  Well, in Thai, vowel and accent symbols show on the template with the dotted zeroes below as place setters, They don't show IF one doesn't make a typing error, which is what I did.  Sorry for the false alarm, and thanks, again.
