What To Put on an SSD

I just installed an SSD and put LR 5.5 on it.  My previous install was on my hard drive and of course it not only had all my images but my LR catalog, preference file, presets, etc.
What files should go on the SSD?
Can they be copied directly from the hard drive to the SSD?
Thanks for your input.

What is your drive arrangement, now?  Are you still booting off of C and it is still a hard-drive with the SSD being a secondary drive letter, like E:, or did you use the move-OS-and-Programs utility that might have come with the SSD to make the SSD as your C: drive and the photos are on the old boot drive that is now a secondary drive letter like E:?
If your SSD is E: then your photos will still be the same place they always were and you can just open your catalog.
if your SSD is now bootable C: then your photos will be on the same hard-drive with a new designation, so you have to do right-click Locate Missing Folder in LR Library's Folder panel for each top-level folder.

  • What to put on what HDD for best performances

    Hi,
A New HDD just fallen on my lap recently, I'm new into Premiere and I wished to use it for my video edition.
    Here my current Spec:
    CPU  I7-2600K @ 4.6Ghz
    RAM: 2 * [ RipjawsX ] F3-17600CL7D-4GBXHD (8 Gig total)
    Motherboard: GA-P67A-UD5-B3
    Hard Drive: 2 * Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB in Raid 0
Graphics Gigabyte GeForce GTX 570 Fermi Windforce
The new HDD: is a ST 7200.14 500 gig.
Right now, because I have no choice, all is on the RAID 0 array.
I want to know for what / what to put on the new 500 gig HDD I've got.
    Best regards,

TY Safeharbo11, you've answered my question correctly.
For now I don't plan to mess around Windows and RAID configuration, I don't need a huge performance boost.  When I'll do I'll probably go the SSD Route for Windows.
For the RAM, I have the cream of the crop as RAM speed / latency goes, and I don't use more then 50-55% of it in my projects.  So I won't touch it for now (they cost me 125-130$ / 4 gig kit; I have 2 of thooses).
I doubt the Image would do since I'm Running a On Board RAID Array (not a dedicated card for it).  I will still look into it.
Bottom line I'll move the Video source files on the new hdd for now (to have at least Windows & Premiere on a different drive then the Video files).
I'll keep looking for a other 500 Gig that I could use to create a other Raid 0 array.
    Thanks you all.

  • Should I put the new SSD drive in main HDD bay or the Superdrive/Optical bay for a Mid-2010 Macbook Pro?

    Hello All,
I'm considering getting a new SSD drive to add on to my Mid-2010 Macbook Pro (13 inches, unibody), and wondering which one of the following two options I should really adapt:
    (1) Replace the original OEM hard drive in the main bay with the new SSD drive, and then remove the Superdrive (or the optical CD drive) and to be fitted into an external enclosure for using it externally in the future, and then relocate the original OEM hard drive into the Superdrive position, so both the new SSD (preferably for running the OS and system files) and the old OEM hard drive (for storing media and documents for example) could be used; and
    (2) Keep the original OEM hard drive in place in the main drive, and buy a superdrive/optical drive caddy to goes with the new SSD drive, and together place the new SSD drive fitted inside the caddy into the position of the Superdrive/Optical CD drive, and configure the boot preference to be booting from the Superdrive/Optical Drive (which is now the SSD drive with OS and system files);
I've done some researches and some suggested that option (2) is better approach for at least two reason: (a) the MBP main drive come with some sort of shock proof sensor, so placing the original optical hard drive in the main is better than placing it in the super/optical drive where there is NO shock sensing feature provided, and placing SSD in the super/optical drive, one doesn't really have to worry so much about shocks; and (b) as during the process of shutting down the MBP, for optical hard drive, some power will sometimes needed to finally spin down the drive, but if such optical hard drive is place in the superdrive, the power maybe cut off right away when MBP shut down, which may cause issue to the optical hard drive in a long run as it never properly spin it down.
Then the main concern is that, if I adapt option (2) above, placing SSD in the super/optical drive bay and install and running the OS from there, will it decrease the performance (i.e. speed, latency, and etc.) as if i was to put the new SSD in the main drive?
Also, any suggestions with respect to Samsung 840 EVO vs. Samsung 850 EVO (250GB)? any well-rated HD caddy aside from OWC for moving the main HDD to optical CD bay? and perhaps an external enclosure for the Superdrive?  Thanks in advance for any comment and/or suggestion.
    - Jack

Could you provide some rationale(s) behind it?  As far as I know, the mid 2010 Macbook Pro, the HDD is running via the SATA interface at running at 3.0 Gb/s, which is SATA II, and the Super-drive and/or the Optical drive, which is also running via SATA II interface, so I would assume the performance (i.e. primarily in speed) would be similar if not the same by placing the SSD drive in either one of the two places.
Also, wouldn't it be better by placing the SSD in the optical so the OEM HDD could be kept in the original main bay since it has the shock-sensing feature there?

If you can open Safari go to the top of your screen, click Safari / Preferences then select the General stab. You can type in the web address for your Home page there.

why can't I sign into my account and add a rescue email so I will be able to redo my security questions? I have been unable to buy anything from Itunes because it's asks me for security questions that I don't remember what I put in the first place

    1. Because if you could, someone who breaks into your account could do it as well.
    2. You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

  • Satellite U845W-S400 - how to open-up the laptop to put in a SSD

    Hello everyone,
I would like to know how to open-up the laptop to put in a SSD.
It has 6 screws on the bottom and I assume some under the keyboard.
I do need a guide however to know for sure where they are before I start prying things open and might even damage it.
Any help would be really appriciated since i could not find any on the web.
    Kind regards,
    Robin

First of all thank you both for your reply's.
My friend bought the laptop in the USA and the salesman also sold him an SSD. So far so good, i can understand the point of view and advantages to the original HDD that it holds at the moment.
As far as warranty concerned it is of no problem and i am aware of the possible consequences. This is not the first notebook i have opened up and the minilaptops and such sort are indeed a bit tricky. Usually there are screws concealed underneath the keyboard.
Just unscrewing the ones on the bottom does not release the bottom cover. Prying the keyboard loose is possible but i have got patience and i would like to know if someone has the exact answer :) Dont want to risk damaging it.

  • What if... SSD and mechanical HD on Imac

    Hi,
i would like to put an SSD 240 GB on my imac mid2010.
    I have two ways :
    1) the easy, remove the superdrive and put the new SSD on optibay
    2) the hard, add the SSD to the second SATA connector (like OWC method)
But i have read about a problem with bootcamp if i put the SSD on optibay.
I can't remove the mechanical HD because there is the termal sensor and i don't want the fans at maximum power then...
It will remain just for storage, but all the OSX will be moved on SSD.
The i would like to install bootcamp too to the SSD.
    But it will run ?
Or the presence of mechanical HD can create some problems ?
I have read about a boy that has the SSD in optibay in a macbook pro.
He says that he can't boot bootcamp, but only if he remove the mechanical HD.
Impossible to do this on imac everytime i need bootcamp !!!
Is it true this problem ?
    Thanks

Thank you, but i can't find the right keyword for results !
    Any suggestion ?

    Hi walter,
You are going to have to reset your security questions. I'm attaching a link here that provides two sets of instructions for doing so. The first set is for if you set up a Rescue Email address, the second set is for if you did not. Here's the link:

    Hello Mats in Sweden!
I'm from Austria, not so far away! The file that you've received seems to be a Windows Media File and you may need a special software for your iPad to be able to open it. I've found something HERE.
If you open this link on your iPad it should take you to the App Store, resp. open it. The price for this app is 1,59 €.
