What to watch for differences

I want to buy an iphone from USA but i'm going to use it in GREECE. What to watch for differences? They told me that CDMA can'twork in my country and i need an iphone with sim card compartment.

That is true, you also want one that is not locked to AT&T so you can switch to the Greek carrier.

  • What to watch for when switching to Leopard?

I just ordered a new Macbook Pro and it will come preinstalled with Leopard. What software can I expect not to work? I believe there is no classic support so my OS 9 apps are out, But with my backed-up stuff from tiger should I expect a smooth migration? I really dont feel like ugprading alot of software just after spending what I did for the MBP. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you connecting to the internet wirelessly? If so I would be interested to hear how it goes for you with a brand new macBook and 10.5. If you hadn't noticed (from these usergroups), 10.5, (10.5.2 in particular) is playing havoc on formerly bulletproof wireless systems.
Regarding apps. Photoshop CS 3 and Golive are the two main apps I use and I haven't noticed any difference with Photoshop, it supposedly fixed an issue with Photoshop under 10.4 regarding measurment units but I never had the problem in the first place so I can't say if it fixed it. Time machine is the big selling point IMHO as I now know my stuff is properly backed up all the time.
Apart from time machine (big plus) and the wireless problems (huge minus) its really not a huge upgrade for us non geeks. I was quite happy with 10.4 and would have stayed with it had I known what 10.5.2 was going to do to my MacBooks wireless capability.

  • What to watch for in Lion (migrating settings etc)

    hi all.
i have update the desktop and the laptop to Lion and noticed that the screen background did not migrate on the desktop, that i had to fix the scroll wheel direction and the i am was missing my Transmit Application for some reason (I re-downloaded it and now just have to find the serial number).
is it possible there is a list of things that i need to manually fix or otherwise watch out for? i mean, i would be interested in reading up on this so that i am not catching things over the next week or finding out about something on a deadline.
also, is there a way to find out what the specifics are of the error message that said that some of my software did not migrate? is saw it both times but seem to have skipped over it.
    TIA for any help.

  • Buying used iPhone 4s what to watch for?

I'm going to purchase a used iPhone 4s from a stranger. What do I need to watch out for?

Another poster, about 3 weeks ago, reported that his new iPhone purchased from a strneger was disabled by ATT as "stolen".  This odd individual insisted right up until he stopped responding in his own post that the seller had reported it stolen to make an insurance claim and *SURELY* the seller had not himself stolen it.  In the fiasco, he put the sim card of the stolen phone phone into his old phone and that one got bricked/locked because of the sim-card relation.
Seems not all sellers are offering legit/legal product.
One way to weed out the bad ones is to make a condition of sale be that the exchange is done at an Apple store to allow Genius Bar to verify stolen/no and good condition.  Legitimate selllers will not balk at that inconvenience of verification before they get your money.

What is (are) the difference(s) between iphoto/imovie apps for the ipad as against imac?

The Mac version would be more complex and be able to do more stuff, while the iPad version can do more simple things due to the lower processing power and the fact that it's an iPad.

  • My "regular guy" impressions of using the Apple Watch for a few days

I was asked by friends to give my impressions of owning an Apple Watch. I guess it all comes down to:
Is the Apple watch worth about a dollar a day for the first year, and free thereafter?
I guess that depends on how much value you put on being able to leave your phone on silent, remaining in your pocket most of the day.
Because of the Taptic notifications, which are distinct "taps" on the wrist by the Watch for different things, I no longer have to keep my phone volume on all day (iPhone vibrations weren't strong enough in my pocket to notify me reliably) leading to a much nicer all day experience. On top of that, when I do get a notification, I can quickly flick my wrist to see what it is instead of digging my phone out. Much nicer to quickly glance at the latest 20% off offer from "YouNeedThis!.com" and dismiss it than dig the phone out, unlock it, click on mail, ...grumble.
The ease of notifications alone makes it worth it to me. It is easy to quickly respond most of the time, too. I find myself using my phone WAY less, which is refreshing (and I am sure appreciated by those around me.)
And the chirps, pings, whistles that used to emanate from my pocket all day are gone. Ahhhhh.
A few other things I have found convenient:
Actually knowing the time, date, weather etc. easily.  Sure, I could have been wearing a wrist watch for some of that, but for the last few years I have used my Smartphone for these things. They are just so much simpler on the wrist.
Answering the phone easily when doing something.  I am not one to wear a Bluetooth headset around like a Borg, so being able to easily answer when my wife calls as I am fixing lunch for the kid is really convenient.
Having the next thing on my daily calendar right there visible when I look at the Watch. I use the Mickey Mouse watch face normally (hey, I have an 18 month old daughter who loves pushing and seeing Mickey "dancing") and right there on the bottom it tells me the next thing on the list. I don't know how other folks do things on their phones, but I always had trouble sifting through notifications on the phone seeing what was on the agenda for the day. Yeah I could go to the calendar several times during the day on the phone, but it wasn't convenient. It is simple on the Watch seeing what is coming up during the week. And I say "week" because the Watch only shows you what is coming up in the NEAR future. To me that makes sense. Again, it is all about quick information and what works best in a glance. On the Watch it makes sense to quickly see what is coming soon. On the phone it makes sense to meander over months and make full edits in a more convenient manner.
Setting quick timers, reminders or alarms is a breeze using Siri on the Watch.  So much more convenient than digging out the phone.
Getting a quick overview on the Watch on how active I have been (or not been) has already spurred me to get up and move more often. Yes there are other devices that help with this (I had a Fitbit previously) but having it all self contained within the Watch is nice and (here I go again) convenient.
A few things that are not perfect on the watch:
The speaker is pretty quiet when trying to have a hands free "Dick Tracy" conversation. Any kind of louder noise in the room and you will have trouble.
Apple is synonymous with consistency. Their entire platform is built on making a consistent experience for everyone that just works.  On the Watch, however, there are some inconsistent uses of actions to do certain things. For example, sometimes when I get a notification and I want to dismiss it off the watch I can "Force press" which brings up a "Clear All" button to tap. Other times I have to scroll to the bottom of the notification to "dismiss." I like the "Force press" thing... let's make it happen consistently.
Most apps now are really pretty useless on the watch.  For one thing, the screen times out too quickly for them. For another, anything in which one needs more than a glance to get the information is MUCH easier to do on the phone. Of all the apps in the Watch App store, the only things I have downloaded and find I actually use are a quick note dictation app, a "what is nearby me" type app, and a sports scores app. That being said, I am perfectly OK with that because that is really not what the Watch is for in my opinion. We aren't SUPPOSED to be doing things on the Watch that are more easily done on the phone. Things that are designed to be quick (check time, check weather, check who just sent a message) are great on the Watch. Things like searching for the best item on Amazon are just ridiculously silly on the Watch (really, Amazon?)
Conspicuously missing from the core apps on the Watch is Apple's "Notes" app. A perfect use for the Watch is to quickly take a note of something you need to remember later. I was forced to download a 3rd party app, Evernote, for this. The Evernote app works well, but I am very surprised that this was missed by Apple as a perfect example of what would be helpful to use the Watch to do.
There is no way to set the "screen on" time to a custom time period. Six seconds or so is default and unchangeable. This makes the Watch worthless for anyone in a health profession. Nurses and EMTs still take pulses using their watch to time the heart rate. Often, with irregular heart rates, a full 60 seconds must be observed. One just can't do this with the Watch. This is quite surprising as the Watch has actually been marketed to health workers with apps even designed solely to assist health workers in their daily planning. Apple clearly wanted to be able to control battery life with such a quick screen off "feature" but allowing us to decide for ourselves the tradeoff of battery life vs. usability would be a much better choice.
There are ways to make Tweets, Facebook status updates and the like on the Watch, but it really doesn't make sense to try to do it "all" socially on the Watch.  It is so much easier on the phone to actually interact socially, that it really only makes sense to do so on the Watch in more of a "one off" way. When you just have to share something quickly, but don't really have time for give and take.
Finally, some things work a bit slow or wonky right now. I expect this to improve greatly over time with future versions of the software. Stuff like this ALWAYS gets better.
So for me, the Watch is working as I expect it should. There are certainly improvements that Apple can and will be able to make, but it is saving me time, adding ease of use to many actions I do every day, and is kind of fun to use. I am enjoying it because I am not expecting it to do things for which ANY wearable would not be well suited. The things it is best for, it does pretty well.
That is worth a dollar a day... to me at least.

To put the iPod into forced disk mode, this is what you should be doing.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
    Have you also seen this?
iPod shows only an Apple logo and doesn't start up.

In a Carrier Ethernet domain,Could someone please help me understand what's the basic difference between Access Switch and Aggregation Switch both in terms of s/w and h/w functionalities. MEF deals OAM,CFM, EVC provisioning only at the access edge switches. Do we need to repeat all these at the aggregation level? or  is it just used for routing purpose? Do we have a separate Fault Management at the aggregation level?

  • What are the major differences b/w live copy blueprint and Language copy of CQ ?

We are in process of creating a different Language Versions of a Website and trying to figure out the best/recommended approach.
what are the major differences b/w live copy blueprint and Language copy of CQ ? which one is recommended in which ? any pointers on this would be appreciated.

The language copy tool is a one-shot tool to create pages under a certain structure. It has a nice UI for it. But that's it.
The MSM blueprint/livecopy concept is much more powerfull, because it has live connections between the blueprint and the livecopy. It does not only allow you to easily create livecopies, but supports you also in maintaining the relationshop between these. So you can easily detect, that the blueprint page has been updated and needs to be rolled out again. Or that there are conflicts, because both blueprint and livecopy have been updated independently. And so on.
From my perspective the language copy tool should not be used, because with creation of language pages the "fun" has just started and the real work is just ahead.

  • What to look for

    Hi,
I understand that this board is a casualty unit for machines BUT having heard many reports of various faults on the mini from a wide variety of sources and having just ordered one recently(at a nice price) I wondered if there is any thing to look out for in particular.
    Kind regards,becca

There is always a sense, reading the discussions here, that each and every product is littered with failures and faults regardless of what that product is, and I think if many people read these threads before they made their purchasing decisions, they'd decide not to buy anything at all!
But the truth is that for the most part, these discussions are relatively quiet given the nature of the casualty unit, and if you consider the volume of sales of these systems, the fact that the vast majority of owners DON'T post here is actually a sign of a healthy product and happy owners rather than the content here being a sign of inherent problems or issues.
That isn't to say there are no faulty minis and nothing to watch for, because there are always going to be a proportion of units with faults reaching the market and there's always the risk of getting one, but by and large the risk is pretty low.
Common issues to watch out for are, as said, RAM, where the more you have the better the system runs. It's true of just about every computer, regardless of MacOS or Windows and whichever processor, but it's somewhat more true of Mac minis (and laptops in general too) because MacOS, like Windows, requires temporary storage on the hard drive, and a constantly active virtual memory store. Given that the drives in Mac minis are relatively slow, 'paging' activities creates a performance bottleneck which holds down the performance of the system as a whole. The more RAM you have (1Gb limit on G4 models, 2Gb limit on Intel units) the lower the paging overhead and thus the less the slow drive impacts on the system. On Intel Macs you also have to content with the memory demands of Rosetta, the on-the-fly PPC translator that allows you to run old. legacy, applications. 512Mb RAM is OK for fully native application use, though it still limits the performance of the system for the same reason as above, but where old software that is not Intel native is being used, it causes very poor performance indeed, and in some cases can render the system a little unstable.
There are also potential issues with displays. The need to use an adaptor with VGA screens can create a 'stack' of connectors on the back that if not secure can leave odd color casts or image distortion. Keep the connectors tight and there's usually no problem. Earlier minis did have issues with some displays, with VGA being washed out or dull and DVI suffering colored static, and the Intel minis are similar, but rather less noticeably so.
The issue that would concern me the most is that on Intel minis, careless owners (and even service providers) have proven apt at disturbing fan and audio connectors when working inside the case, so if the system you are buying is a used one, test it out to make sure that everything is functional before settling down to get it into full use, and watch for odd fan behavior and for proper audio output if there is any indication the system has been opened.
Other than that, sit back and enjoy it. These are really extraordinarily powerful systems for their size, and easily outstrip the needs of many users. Most mini users (both G4 and Intel) would, I believe, tell you that they have been extremely happy with their choice of system, and there's no reason you should not be too.

  • Buying Used iMac - What to look for?

    Hello,
I'm a devoted mac user. I currently own a late 2008 unibody Macbook, and have been looking for an upgrade. I came across a used iMac posting on a craigslist-like website. The configuration is a low-end mid-2011 21" iMac (quad core i5, 4gb, 500gb).
I asked the seller for the serial number and checked it out the support site. The warranty is due to run out on Thursday, just enough time for me to buy extended AppleCare. The price seems reasonable (approx $730 whereas a new iMac is $1200), and I've asked to see the iMac in person tomorrow. I wanted to know what to look for when making the final decision.
Also do you think I should hold out for an Ivy Bridge iMac (rumoured to be coming soon??) or will it not make a difference for normal coding/browsing (no photo/video editing/gaming)? One factor discouraging me is that Apple has hitched up the prices for the newly released Macbooks here in India (the base 13" pro used to be $1250, now $1530!!!).
    Thanks a lot!

Then you have to make sure the original owner releases their account at Apple or purchases and upgrades will be impossible.
Oh! Had no idea about this... how does one release the account? I mean, is there a way i can check it on the machine itself? The applecare site doesn't show any registration info.
    Thanks!!

  • What HD TV for my MBP?

I would like to purchase an HD TV to use with my MBP. I’m new to the whole “HD” thing, and was wondering if anyone has suggestions on what to get for use with my MBP: Plasma of LCD. These TVs have come WAY down in price lately and I’m looking for something in the $700-800 range (and there are a lot in this price range). I mainly plan on using the TV as an extra monitor in my recording studio, and to watch videos via my computer on occasion. And, of course, I plan to watch HD TV on it as well. Any advice or specific suggestions on what TV/Brand to get would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

You've a huge choice these days and LCD's have come down in price a lot ...
My personal choice was to go with Plasma, I got a Panasonic 42" and use a DVI-HDMI lead for the video and Toslink for the audio connections. If I was looking again today I'd possibly got down the LCD route as I think they deliver better text performance, it all depends what you're going to use it for.
I have to say that the Plasma is exceptional with Blu-Ray discs (I just bought a Panasonic Blu-Ray Recorder/Player the other day)

  • Using ME59 and report for difference amount

    Hi Experts,
We have a business issue as follows:
we have one trading plant and one manufacturing plant and one vendor to  supply raw mateials tray A and tray B.  Sytem is made like APO is runing in manufacturing plant and ECC MRP  running in trading plant at the same time from monday to thursday 10 P.M. once the MRP runs in trading plant and manufacturing plant a sub contract order will get create to manufacturing plant to manufacture the final product VIA SUB CONTRACTING ORDER.. The MRP runs at 10.30 in both trading and manufacturing plant it takes 4 hours time...we proposed  to  use ME59 for processing  automatic PR generations in back ground after completion of MRP run. Please can we suggest to run in ME59 in background? or is there any other options?or is it possible run my user ?
Issue 2:  Report preperations for difference of orders
The orders are coming from different countries like...US, Austraila,  and Europe to trading plant it will creates a lot size for the vendor who  supply raw materials...if the lot is 6000... trading plant recieves 8000 orders so there is a difference of 2000 .. lot size is limited to 6000 so they are maintaing it in excel sheet presently they want to maintain it in report...please suggest how we can solve this difference?  . this automation should be done between vendor and manufacturing plant.
    Please kidnly support..
    Thanks in Advance
    GANESH

For many years automatic PO creation is already ME59N. And it should only be used if your master data ( vendor, material, info record) is in a very good shape so that the users do not need to enter or change anything, e.g. could just click save in ME21N
your second scenario is very vague, your customers order the finished material from the trading plant. the trading plant orders at the manufacturing plant. The manufacturing plant orders raw materials from the vendor to manufacture the finished material.
Why does the trading plant get 6000 if 8000 are ordered, who's fault is this?
What is the reason for an extra Excel sheet (this is usually a fall back if users are not trained enough and do not understand the processes and do not know how to use SAP to track)
if you want automate anything between manufacturing plant and vendor, then you need to tell what you want automate. In general an automation should be done for processes that work well and do not need any human interaction. And automation cannot solve your problems with getting/receiving less than ordered
