What type of airport/time capsule do i need to acces my music from every device
Hello, i need some good advice....
I have an old external drive with my music on, and now i want to buy a new system/drive from where i can acces it from my windows pc with itunes and my iphone 5s. I was looking for a NAS with itunes-server possibilities but maybe a timecapsule can do the trick to?
Does someone has a similar setup?
You can't! If you and your friend are sharing the same Apple ID, then sync what you have on itunes onto his nano.

If you do not want to use the Cisco/Linksys router and use a Time Capsule instead, then your network would look like this:

I have just got an Apple Airport time capsule to back up my one year old iMac......how do I do it? I have tried putting an ethernet cable into the time capsule and to my sky hub, all I get is a flashing amber light, can anyone help I am a silver surfer not used to Apple products, but love them, plus I don't understand half of the jargon....HELP please
Apple's Setup Guide for the Time Capsule is pretty simple and clear for most users, and you don't indicate at what point or step that you are getting stuck.
So, please go to page 8 in your Setup Guide to review the topic of Plugging In Your AirPort Time Capsule.
The Sky hub will likely have 4 Ethernet <--> ports on the back of the device. Pick any one that you want and connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the port that you choose.
Then, connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN (circle of dots) port as shown in the Setup Guide.
Continuing with the instructions on page 8 of the Setup Guide, power up the Time Capsule by connecting the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule to a wall AC jack.
Note that the instructions indicate that the indicator light will be solid amber during startup, and it will change to blinking amber during the setup. The light will remain blinking amber until you have configured the Time Capsule at which time the light will turn green.
Next, go to page 12 of the Setup Guide to see the information to Use your Mac or iOS device to set up your AirPort Time Capsule.
You indicated in your tag line that you were using OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), and since that will exceed the minimum requirement of a Mac using OS X (10.7.5) as noted in the guide, you can use your Mac to set up the Time Capsule.
Continuing with the instructions on page 12 of the Setup Guide......
1. Open AirPort Utility on your Mac. It is located as follows: Finder (the smiley face on the dock) > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
2. Select your AirPort Time Capsule and click Continue. You won't be able to do this, but read further......If you do not see the AirPort Time Capsule that you want to configure, choose it from the WiFi status menu in the menu bar, at the top of the screen.
So, clicking on the WiFi icon will yield a small window that looks like this:
The example below shows an AirPort Extreme. You will see Time Capsule on your screen. Click on Time Capsule.
When you click on Time Capsule, that will get the setup wizard going. it will take a minute to analyze the network, then display a screen that looks similar to the illustration below, except that you will see a picture of a Time Capsule on your screen
3. Continuing with the Setup Guide.......Follow the onscreen prompts to create a new network
Network Name...........Type in a simple name that you want to call your network. Do not use the suggested name.
Base Station Name....Type in a simple name that you want to call the Time Capsule. Mine is TC, for example.
Password...................Type in a password that will be used for both the network and the Time Capsule. Write that down.
Verify..........................Type in the password again to Verify
Click Next
The setup wizard will configure everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
The Time Capsule is now set up and it will display a green light. -
I have a MacBook Pro 13" (2010) running OS X 10.9.2 and have Airport Time Capsule. I routinely delete my cookies and often (every couple days or so) when I reboot, a number of cookies reappear in my Safari settings. The number of cookies that reappear is exactly the same when it does it (351 cookies) so I'm wondering if it is related to my Airport Time Capsule or possibly iCloud? How do the cookies get back into my MacBook Pro? Or.... Have they ever actually left? Befoer I reboot, I delete them and sometimes they stay gone for 24hrs or more, but then reappear the next time I reboot. Can someone tell me if there is a way to clear the cookies so they won't come back?
Blocking all cookies in Safari does not work. Deleted cookies will not stay deleted. There are numerous threads on this going back years, both in these forums and elsewhere. Many claim to have submitted the issue to Apple, but I have never seen anyone post a reply.
I have seen many suggested fixes that involve finding the cookies file, some including Terminal manipulations, and none seems to work universally. I can find noplace where Apple addresses this officially with an actual Apple-approved explanation or how-to.
Bottom line, your browser's security features should do what they claim: delete cookies. When they come back without ever even visiting another page, this is clearly not working in the way a reasonable user would expect.
Bottom line, Safari does not protect users' privacy in the way it pretends to and, after so many years of this issue, it appears that Apple wants it this way.
Having spent way too much time on this, I realize the choice is between Safari which is pretty well optimized; Firefox which is a lot pokier, at least for me; and Chrome, which I assume funnels personal information directly to Google. -
Airport time capsule won't allow me to print over wifi
I just bought an airport time capsule 2TB. I set it up and almost everything works great. I have a printer that is not wireless. It's a brother 7065DN. I was told by an apple employee that if I plug the printer into the airport time capsule it will allow me to print wirelessly from my macbook pro. However, this does not work. I'm not that big into technology but if anyone knows how I can fix this please let me know. It would be nice not to have to plug my laptop in all the time to print a short
You do it the same way you did when you installed the printer on your Mac.
Connect the printer to the USB port on the Time Capsule
Power up the printer
Click System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Click Print & Fax
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list
Hopefully, your printer will appear.... IF......it is compatible with the TIme Capsule
Click on the name of the printer to highlight it
Click Add
Now try to print. When you open the Print dialog box, it will appear as if you have two printers installed......because you do. One is installed on the Mac. The other is installed on the Time Capsule
You must choose the correct printer at the Time Capsule to be able to send the print command to the printer at the Time Capsule. -

I'm having trouble with my Time Capsule Airport, I made all the settings according to the manual, but there has been a connection problem with my iMac. When I finish my work I turn off the imac and then again when they return to work and care, it can not connect to Time Capsule Airport, making it impossible to remove the files and make back up by Time Machine only works when I turn off and turn on the Airport Time Capsule , but I think this may end up with the unit. Please also make sure you are set to ipv6 in your wireless or ethernet .. whichever is used.. and do tell which.

The following are important..
DO not use long names with spaces and non-alphanumeric names.
Use short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
eg TC name. TCgen5
Wireless name TCwifi
Use WPA2 Personal security with 10-20 character pure alphanumeric password.
read apple instructions to help with TM and TC.. they did finally admit it has issues in Mavericks.

Yes,, if you plan to connect the AirPort Time Capsule to the ASUS router using an Ethernet cable connection that will remain fixed and permanently installed at all times.
No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Time Capsule connect wirelessly and extend the Asus WiFi signal, since it would not be compatible with another manufacturer's router for that purpose.
Another way of saying the same thing here would be that if you want to extend the network wirelessly, it will take two Apple routers to do so -

Question on if Airport Time Capsule is best type of backup to use
New to having a Mac, just ordered a 27" iMac, loaded, with a G-Drive Raid for second drive, and for backup...I ordered the 3 TB Airport TIme Capsule...as I thought that might be good idea, but...second guessing it.
1. Neither the G-Drive nor the Airport will do RAID-1.
2. I have an existing Wireless FireWall Router (Linksys WRT1900AC, just upgraded to it). Uncertain if it supports Time Machine, but, seems maybe all I really need is to hang a RAID-1 drive off of it, for a backup?
3. Just hang a RAID-1 drive off of the iMac with Thunder or even USB3.
I kinda like the idea of the backup drive being remote from the computer, so maybe both won't be destroyed at same time, and, even if not RAID-1, changes of BOTH drives going south at same time are low.
What's best practice?
Thanks.Time Capsule is designed to be used for a Time Machine backup, Apple never advised it was designed as a RAID drive so where you got that idea is unknown. Many users on these forums use redundant backups because when it comes to backing up you can never have enough. The schems I (any many similar users on this forum use) is to use Time Machine on one EHD and then use a cloning backup on a totally seperate EHD. Two popular cloning apps are SuperDuper and Carbon Copy Cloner. Both do the same, create bootable clones of your system so in the event of a HD crash you can boot from the clone and operate until you can get the internal HD replaced. Your TC is a good device as both a router and TM backup however in order to have a redudant backup you will need another EHD, one directly connected to your iMac.

Today Apple retail unit/shop in sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my 21 inch iMac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and also newer Airport Utility version (mine is 5.6.1). What can I do, please? So much looking forward to using Time Capsule. It is not at all readable on box. Now with a magnified glass I can just about make out the installation requirements printed in tiny print at the bottom/base of the box! I have tried software update etc etc and to download Airport Utility update from Apple website. This was unsuccessful because of OSX, I gathered. You need OS X 10.7.5 or later. Most likely you can upgrade OS X on your iMac. You already have 10.6.8 and access to the App Store. If your computer qualifies to run Mavericks, then that is what you would upgrade to, otherwise, you would upgrade to Lion.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
