What type of AVI files will IMAQ routines open/read?

It's been recommended that to be able to use images from DV firewire
cameras with IMAQ the way to do it is to capture an AVI file and then
use the open/read AVI Vis to process the frames. When I capture a full
DV file using Pinnacle studio, this captures to a type 2 AVI using the
dvsd codec. Open AVI exits with an error when trying to open these
files. Does it need to be a type 1 AVI or use a particular codec to be
readable by IMAQ?

Hi Russ,
The only caveat on the avi read functions is that the file extension should be .avi
I'm still looking into it but it would be helpful if you could tell me what functions you are trying to use and what error codes you are seeing.
Thanx

  • What types of movie files are accepted on the ipad2?

I am trying to trsnsfer movies to my itunes in order to transfer them onto my ipad2.
But when I look for the movies on my itunes I don't see any listed.
What types of movie file formats are accepted to transfer to the ipad2?

The Videos app supports these formats (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
If you can't get them into your computer's iTunes then there are programs such as Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr) which might be able to convert them. If you can get them into your computer's iTunes but they then won't sync to the iPad, then you could try doing Advanced > Create iPad Version and see if that version syncs over.

I agree that VLC is also a good choice but MPlayerX is more user friendly.

VLC will play avi's, even if the index is broken. IT can repair most broken avi's but will still play them if it can't.

  • My ID files will no longer open?: I need to update our catalog. Please help

My archived ID Files will no longer open in ID 2014. Please help, I need to update our catalog.

If the files come from very old versions, like pre-CS (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0) you have to open them in older versions of InDesign first. Try to open them in CS6 (this is the oldest version which comes with the CC subscription), otherwise go back to CS4 which could open every previous version and save it with the version you use.

  • Captured avi file will start to play then stop

After capturing an avi file and trying to review it for editing in the timeline, the scene will start to play, but then after only 2 or 3 seconds the video stops, and the audio track contiues.  This behavior began after I used a registry-cleaning product (PC Health Advisor).  The avi file plays normally with video and sound in Windows Media Player.   What should I do?

  • What type of TV's will apple TV work on?

I am learning about Apple TV.  I would like to know all of my options as I proceed with the purchase of this new device.  What type of TV will it work with when I am using my iPad?  Is there any chance a TV that is not a flat screen TV is usable?  I have both types of televisions available to test out this new device.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV is compatible with high-definition TVs with HDMI and capable of 1080p or 720p at 60/50Hz,2 including popular models from these manufacturers: Hitachi, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, NEC, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, Vizio, Westinghouse.
It won't make any difference to the TV you can use whether you use an iPad or not.

i have a camera and a laptop with imovie 08. apperently my camera takes movies in avi. format, and imovie won't import the files in... can anyone explain to me why this is and what i can do about it?
AVI (like MOV) file containers are generic in nature. They can contain any valid combination of audio and video compression formats. Unfortunately, not all are editable in iMovie '08 and it iMovie '08 cannot edit it, the files are ignored. As always in such cases, the user should first examine a clips contents to try and determine the problem. This is most easily done by simply double-clicking the problem file in either iPhoto or the Finder to open it in the QT Player. Once opened, you can examine the audio anf vide comression formats by checking the "Inspector" window's "Format:" entry line. A common example for an AVI file might be Casio's use of M-JPEG video which is compatible with iMovie '08 and adaptive PCM (e.g., ADPCM) which is not "edit" compatible. While in this case only the audio content causes the problem and need be changed, many users elect to convert both audio and video content if they don't have QT Pro and/or are unsure how to convert/replace just the audio data. Specific work flows may depend on the codecs used to create the AVI which brings us back to why you need to determine the specific compression audio formats used.
