What type of DVD burns on a Mac  r or -r?

Need to know what type of DVD to purchase to burn a movie.  DVD+R or DVD-R for a Mac.

Depends on what machine you intend to use it on.
Most Mac's should be able to do both DVD-R and DVD+R formats it's the other device you got to worry about.
The important thing is get the small batch of DVD's first and try a few burns and test them on the other machine.
Then you can buy the big stack.
Some makes of DVD's are better (or worse) than others. Also there seems to be a heat or time issue with then as well, so don't pick up the stack with a lot of dust on it.
Leave the DVD's in the case only extract one as you use it and never return one to the case, don't touch the bottom ever or lay the bottom on something hard.
finicky things those DVDs, got to try a few to get a burn sometimes.

    This may help, but it's an accessory with an extra cost:

    This new Superdrive also supports DVD-Audio so you can load more music into it than a CD.

  • What type of DVD?

    What type of DVD (DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD-R,DVD-RW) should I use to burn videos from my video camera that are now on iMovie?

    You can go to the apple menu, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware and then the DVD drive you have to find out if there are specifications given on the drive only supporting certain types of DVDs.  Otherwise it should support any of the formats.

  • What type of DVD should I use for Windows Backup?

    I am wanting to do my Windows Backup and I was wondering what type of DVD media I should use. Is it better to use a RW or only R type DVD.
    I have an HP Omni 220-1180qd, A5W89AV#ABA, running Win7 64 bit.
    I thought I read it can use CD's, DVD's but I want to know which would be the better choice.
    Thanks for any help and all help is appreciated.

    Honestly, an external hard drive would be a better choice. The difference between +R and +R/W is that +R is "Recordable" and +R/W is "Re-Writable". If you intend on making periodic backups, go with an extrernal hard drive... If you intend on making very few backups, consider the DVD+R discs.

    Hi,
    What is your "hp envy touchsmart 17.1". Normally you can use blank DVD+R or DVD-R to write.

  • What is best DVD converter for the Mac and iPod

    Would like to convert all of my kids DVD movies to my Mac for play on AppleTV and iPods/iPads.  What is the best software for doinng this.  I am willing to pay up to $50 for the software as I would like a high quality and fast, fast, fast conversion rate.

    If you have an Apple computer, you can get a software called "Video Converter Ultimate" from the Apps store. It works well. It is available for both Windows and Mac. It is a free download.

    looking for a external blu ray dvd burner for my mac

    There are plenty of options but I have found that the LaCie d2 http://blu-ray.burnworld.com/burners/lacie-d2.htm works more consistantly. I use Toast 11 mainly for Blu-Ray. The drive does come with a basic verison of the software which is good for most but you need to upgrade to do some serious authoring.

  • Pc dvd burner on a mac?

    can u buy a normal pc dvd burner and stick it in a powermac g4? please reply to this if u kno coz we need to kno soonish

    Yes and No.
    For maximum compatibility with OS X and the iApps (burning from the Finder and iDVD etc) it's best to stick with certain makes and models that are fully supported. These tend to be the ones that Apple themselves use as SuperDrives.
    If you have a certain DVD burner in mind you could always check out the drive compatibility database at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ to see whether there are any reports on it. Alternatively there are a number of other threads on this same topic in this section of the forums.
    The Pioneer DVR-10x seems a popular choice (109, 110 etc). OS X 10.4 seems to support a wider range of drives than 10.3, certainly newer drives that have only recently appeared on the market. However, PatchBurn can be used to add support for some http://www.patchburn.de/
    I hope this helps.

  • HT1645 Hello, does anyone know of good DVD burning software for Mac?  I've got two 8 min 25 sec mov files to put on a DVD with title and a menu for the two.  I've tried it with iDVD five times, each time waiting over an hour and then getting an error mess

    I have a short film I produced and I need to burn off copies however I am having no end of trouble with finding a simple DVD burning programme.
    I tried a few but no luck.  I am trying with mov files and I can't see where the cog is happening.  If anyone has any good and relatively inexpensive solutions, please let me know!
    Thanks so much!
    Cheers

    Welcome to the forums.
    If you'd like to continue trying with iDVD, one of Apple's resources shows HT 1645 to be an encoding error (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1645), so I would suggest starting a new iDVD project and set the iDVD Preferences to make sure they match to your project.  In particular, you should be using the Pro encoding setting or Best Performance for projects with a total length under an hour (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5417).
    Roxio Toast is an excellent burning tool and part of my work flow after I've used iDVD to create a disk image.  Toast will not have the nice iDVD menus, but can do many other tasks besides DVD creation.  (Disk images can help in the DVD creation process -- here's one of many discussions:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/15469221#15469221)

  • What type of dvd's should i buy to back up my data?

    I know the answer to this is prolly the kind that is on apple's website. But I was wondering what brand of recordable dvd'd people have had good luck with. Thank you very much for your time
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    I have always had the best luck with either TDK (preferred) or Fuji. I have yet to burn a coaster with either brand.
    There is a nice brand commentary HERE and my experience seems to reflect what they have discovered.

  • Is a high definition DVD burner available for Mac's?

    I have a HD camcorder (Canon XHA1) and am using Final Cut express HD. I have been very disappointed in the results I have obtained when burning my Final Cut projects to a standard DVD.(After finishing my FCE project, I use IDVD to produce a disc image, then burn to a standard 4.7 GB Sony or Verbatim DVD-R) Many of my clients now have blu ray players and high def TV's and want their videos in high definition. Is a high definition burner available for a mac pro so that I can burn high definition discs?

    Thanks Tom for the link. However, I noticed when reading through the info about this blu-ray drive that it made no mention of being compatible with Final Cut Express HD or IDVD which is what I am currently using. I had considered upgrading to Final Cut Studio but it sounds like this drive is only compatible when used with Adobe Premiere Pro and Encore CS4. I am no techie, so pardon my ignorance about all this. Is Toast a "replacement" for IDVD? Could I use FCExpress (or FC studio if I upgrade) then burn the DVD using toast? Does Toast have menu templates like IDVD?
    If anyone has any experience using this blu-ray drive on their Mac with Final Cut and IDVD or Toast I would appreciate some input on what the exact workflow is and if the whole process has been a positive experience.
    Thanks so much for your help!

  • What are the dvds that come with mac for?

    okay i am new to mac, so i bought my first mac (macbook pro) and it comes with 2 dvds and something like a cover below. what are they for??

    They contain all the recovery software including an Installer for OS X, XTools for program development, DashCode for developing Widgets, iLife installer, drivers for Windows, and hardware diagnostic software.
    Put them away somewhere safe in case there comes a time you may need them. It would be a good idea to make a duplicate set to use so those never risk getting damaged. You will need two dual-layer DVD-R blanks.
    Duplicate a CD or DVD
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
    4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
    5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
    6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.
