What type of dvd drive enclosure do I need?

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro PRE unibody that I put a solid state drive in the standard HD and moved the standard HD to the dvd drive slot.   Now its time to buy a DVD drive enclosure but I cant seem to find one/figure out exactly what to buy.
I understand I need a PATA style DVD enclosure.   As thats what I bought for a caddy for my HD to put in that slot.    But all the enclosures I see that are PATA say they're for Powerbooks and older Macs.
Does anyone have a link to an external DVD drive enclosure I can order?
Thank you.

Thanks,  but I don't see any enclosures.  I see total dvd drives.  I have my Superdrive that still works and just need an enclosure for it.   Theres a ton of them on Amazon, just don't know which version.
Thanks for the reply.  Good to know that worst case I can buy an all inclusive setup for 60 bucks.

I am wanting to do my Windows Backup and I was wondering what type of DVD media I should use. Is it better to use a RW or only R type DVD.
    I have an HP Omni 220-1180qd, A5W89AV#ABA, running Win7 64 bit.
I thought I read it can use CD's, DVD's but I want to know which would be the better choice.

Honestly, an external hard drive would be a better choice. The difference between +R and +R/W is that +R is "Recordable" and +R/W is "Re-Writable". If you intend on making periodic backups, go with an extrernal hard drive... If you intend on making very few backups, consider the DVD+R discs.

  • What type of DVD?

What type of DVD (DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD-R,DVD-RW) should I use to burn videos from my video camera that are now on iMovie?

You can go to the apple menu, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware and then the DVD drive you have to find out if there are specifications given on the drive only supporting certain types of DVDs.  Otherwise it should support any of the formats.

  • What type of hard drive replacement should i use to replace the hard drive in my first generation mac min 2005 model a 1103?

what type of hard drive replacement should I use to replace the hard drive on my first generation mac mini model a 1103?   G4 1.25 mhz 40 gb hd 1 gb. mem.

You'll need a 2.5" parallel ATA interface hard drive. Most are 5400RPM, forget 7200RPM drives and slower 4200rpm drives.  You don't want a serial ATA (SATA) drive, as that has a different connector and won't work.
One source I've used for drives is Newegg, and their parallel ATA hard drives are at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007605%2060000344 2&IsNodeId=1&name=IDE%20Ultra%20ATA100%20%2f%20ATA-6 .  Newegg also has many user comments about the drives. Other sources are OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ (Click on ATA on the left) . Look for at least a 3 year warranty.

  • What type of DVD burns on a Mac  r or -r?

Need to know what type of DVD to purchase to burn a movie.  DVD+R or DVD-R for a Mac.

Depends on what machine you intend to use it on.
Most Mac's should be able to do both DVD-R and DVD+R formats it's the other device you got to worry about.
The important thing is get the small batch of DVD's first and try a few burns and test them on the other machine.
Then you can buy the big stack.
Some makes of DVD's are better (or worse) than others. Also there seems to be a heat or time issue with then as well, so don't pick up the stack with a lot of dust on it.
Leave the DVD's in the case only extract one as you use it and never return one to the case, don't touch the bottom ever or lay the bottom on something hard.
finicky things those DVDs, got to try a few to get a burn sometimes.

  • What type of hard drive is in my hp1000

what type of hard drive is in my hp1000 it has taken a dirt nap and i will need to get a new one

    Hi:
Please enter the product number for your notebook in the applicable box at the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=228&sw_lang=&product=top
The product # can be found on the same sticker as the serial number.
Then you will be directed to the support and driver page for your PC.
On the lower right side is a Manuals link.
There should be a maintenance and service guide which will tell you what the hard drive part numbers are.
Google one of them and you will have your answer.  Sometimes they just state 5,400 RPM hard drive and not much more, but when you google the part number, you normally find out exactly the info you need.
If you have trouble finding the info, please post back with your full model number.

  • What type of internal drive should I get for my Mac Pro?

I want to buy a large internal hard drive for my Intel Mac Pro.
    1. What type do I need to get? What do I need to look for as far as specs?
    2. Anyone know what the largest sized one I can put inside it is?
    Thanks.

Some drives over 2.2TB started using blocks 4K in size instead of the traditional 1/2K sized blocks. That does not sound like a Big Deal, but it changes the Error Correcting Codes needed and means a new data-separation algorithm inside the drive.
For Operating Systems, it means that you want the smallest block to be 4K instead of 1/2K, because allocating blocks on 1/2K bound will give you logical blocks that split across physical blocks, which will be s-l-o-w.
Mac OS designers saw that stuff coming and changed the software to accomodate it. They included it with other changes in GUID partition map, which worked well at 10.4.6 and later.

  • New e optical cd/dvd drive pavilion a1330n desktop needs driver to recognize--not in my computer

I installed new E opitcal 16x dual layered lightscribe cd/dvd r/rw+ drive on a pavilion a 1330n desktop.  It was identical to the old one except for serial number.  My Computer does not recognize it.  Can I change my old drive or download new to install it?   Where  can I find the right download?   Also before any of this My Documents quit recognizing both of my writable cd/dvd drives even though they were in My computer--How do I fix this?

    Hi,
You could try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
If the above fix hasn't worked, try the following.  From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this.  Again, do not delete drivers if asked.
Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart your PC and let Windows re-install these devices.  Give it a minute or two, then see if the drive is working.
Let me know how it goes.
    Best wishes,

  • What Type Of Hard Drive Do I Have & Backing Up.

I just got an email from Apple that says I have a Seagate Hard Drive that my fail and it is on recall.  Call them to set up for a hard drive replacement.  This raises questions for me I hope I can get answers here for.
    1.  How can I check to see if I actually have a Segate Drive?
I assume it is somewhere here, but not sure where:
"Apple Logo > About This Mac > More Info"
    2. I am told that to swap the hard drive I will need to bring in all of my original install disc plus any other software  I ordered with it (Final Cut Express in my case).  So what is the best way to back everything up so when I get it back  I will not have to re-type all of info for my emails, contacts, passwords and WEP for wifi, ect, ect.
    3. Will Time Machine remember everything or will there still be some items that will require re-entering?
    4. I have a 1TB internal drive that currently only has about 95 GB being used. Can I use a 400 GB external Passport that is MacJournaled as a Time Machine Backup?
    5. What about security issues, since I assume Apple will keep my old seagate drive they recalled.  Should I ask for it back or actually trust them to dispose of the data properly?
    6. Any other tips before I begin this process is apprecitaed.  I am trying to do this with as little headaches as possible.
    Thanks.

Open Disk Utility which will display that information. However, since you were notified you should have the drive in question.
I would suggest a cloned backup of the drive on an external HDD:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      2. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      3. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination
          entry field.
      4. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
      5. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
After cloning use OPTION booting to startup from the clone:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the external backup disk.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
    Now erase your internal drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your internal hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data - one pass - and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
This will remove all traces of your information from the drive as if it were new from the factory.

  • What type of internal drive do I need?

I would like to install a second hard drive in my G4 desktop machine. What drive type should I be looking at..."eide", "ATA", "SATA", or ?
I don't know what these various designations mean, or which would be the right solution for an older G4 like mine. An external drive is also a possibility, but the internals are much less expensive.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi-
Ultra ATA 100 drives are the drives for your system. Easiest to find, inexpensive, no adapters, etc. Your origional drive is ATA 100. Here are the specs for your system:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg4/stats/powermac_g4_867_dpmdd.html
Your system is not limited to hard drive size (GB) and can use any of the following drives:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=169&type=DataStorage&TI=3034&shoupgrds=ShowUpgrades
If you want to use SATA drives, you can, but you also need a controller card. This card and drive set is a good deal:

    G4 AGP(450)Sawtooth, 2ghz PowerLogix, 1.62gb SDRAM, 120gb+160gb HDD   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   ATI Radeon 9800, Pioneer DVR-109, LaCie 160gb, 23" Cinema Display, Ratoc USB2.0
