What type of expansions can be put in Mac Pro's

I've owned MBP and iMac but now I own a Mac Pro and I want to know what kinds of things can the system be expanded with besides HD, extra super drives. I need some ideas here, this is actually my very first tower computer and this is all new to me. I'm using the computer for video and some music. I hear of people installing Blu Ray but I thought Macs do not support them, I've heard of this e-sata thing, and I've heard of people putting different graphic cards. Give me some insight if you guys and girls don't mind.

You'd be surprised...! People come to Mac Pro not knowing how much RAM their apps will benefit from, or how to configure primary scatch, or never used any type of RAID and not sure what it means, and want to use mirror for their backup.
Of course then we get to, "if you have to ask if you need Mac Pro or not, or could get by with a _____" the general snap is, "if you have to ask, then you don't need one" too.
Or they get into these FW hubs and daisy chain and run into all sorts of problems as a result; or don't know that eSATA/USB/FW may not be native SATA.
The first time I got into SCSI controller, and first time it was a real option, I had a headache for months going over Ultra2 vs Ultra160.

  • What  type of items can I put on iCloud's free 5GB storage?

    Hello. I have an iPhone 4S. I use iCloud and I found out that it gives you free 5GBs. I am pretty close to filling up my storage on the phone itself, so, I was wondering if I could use the free 5GBs that comes with iCloud to put, say for example, more music or more apps on my iPhone. Is that possible?

    No, you can't add anything you purchased in iTunes to your iCloud storage, anything you purchased in iTunes, movies excepted is already elsewhere in the cloud and if you want to use that content and it's not already on your phone you can download it from the purchased section of the music app.

  • What types of video can I edit in QuickTime Pro?

    I'm looking to simply cut sections of existing video and save them as a new file. I tried doing this with an .mpeg, but with no luck. Does QuickTime Pro only allow you to edit .mov files, or can you edit other formats as well?

    lots of formats, you just have to get the codecs so it can play it.
    .mov
    .mp4
    .flash
    .dv
    MOV is a container, not a format (codec). Inside a MOV container is the video file which could be in an unsupported format like DivX, in which case the required codec is needed. Some files that end in MP4 are not in a conforming MPEG-4 codec and they won't play either. You forgot to mention WMV which can be played for free with Flip4mac and exported for a small cost with an upgraded version of F4M.
    Users should have ONLY - unless something very specific is supplied with an application - apple's codecs, Flip4mac to play Windows media files and Perian 1.1 to play back all the cruft from the interweb, in their Quicktime folder.

  • What type of memory is available for my mac pro 2X266 Dual Core

    I WOULD LIKE TO UPGRADE FROM 4GB TO 8

    Ideal is 4 DIMMs (two DIMMs on each Riser in slots 1 and 2).
    Hence, ideal would be 4 x 2GB
    Or fill all 8 DIMMs.

  • What type of files can we create in Java?

    In general what type of files can we create in Java?
    For example, we can create .dat and .txt files as follows:
    DataOutputStream ostream;
    ostream = new DataOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("myfile1.dat"));
    or
    ostream = new DataOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("myfile2.txt"));
    Can we create ASCII?
    Thank you in advance for your answers.

    In general what type of files can we create in Java?You know that a file is nothing more than a series of ones and zeros, with eight of those bundled together as something called a byte. What they actually mean is what you make them to mean. Short: you can write and read any file type you like, but doing that semantically correct it is your responsibility.

  • What types of notification can I set to indicate a new voicemail receipt?

    What types of notification can I set to indicate a new voicemail receipt?
    I still haven't trained myself to check regularly for voicemails and find that it sometimes takes me days to notice a new voicemail.
    If I could set a distinct sound, that would be great.
    Or automatically receive a text message.
    Or even automatically receive an email.
    What's possible?
    Steve

    Thanks to you both but a simple sound alert for new voicemail isn't what I was looking for.  That kind of alert happens once and then "disappears".
    I believe what Modular says is true, but the kind of notification that "lasts" (a text or email notification) is the kind I want to set.  I want the iOS to help me remember that I have unlistened-to voicemails.
    Hope that makes sense.
    How do I suggest a text or email notification for voicemail to Apple iOS programmers?

    If you own an IOS device then you can use airplay with compatible apps (i.e. Global) If you have an iPad 2 (or later) or iPhone 4S you can mirror most content to the screen.
    As long as you have an HDTV capable of at least 720P you're good to go.

    What kinds of cpu can you put in a 2007 modal imac to bring it to its max
    Thanks

    While it CAN be done I don't know if you'll see enough bang for your buck to make it worthwhile. IMO you'll get a better return by installing an SSD and maxing out the ram. That said I don't have any idea which cpu you could swap for.

    Im wondering what is the most GB of hard drive space I can have in my Mac Pro?  The Apple representative on the phone said I could only do 8GB?  Is this correct?  I was thinking about maybe getting 3Tb internal hard drives, but that would exceed the limit apple representative said of a total of 8GB hard drive max?
    Did I miss something?

    Did I miss something?
    Yes, what does "GB" refer to here?  Is it hard drives or memory dimms?
    If it's hard drives you can put any size SATA drive in your mac pro drive bays.
    If it's memory dimms refer to OWC's charts for your model to see what you can add.  So for a 5,1 (2010 Mac Pro) you could fill the slots with 8GB dimms.
