  • What type of wireless card should I buy?

Does anyone have suggestions on what type of wlan card I should buy for my MSI K8T Neo FSR Board? I currently have a D-Link DWL-G520, and it crashes the system, so I need something new. Thanks!

I always seem to have problems with internal PCI cards from D-Link Netgear Linksys (the list goes on), but I have never ran into a problem with external cards. I currently use a linksys and my friend uses a D-Link. One benefit of going external is, obviously you can move it from computer to computer without a problem, also if you are getting a bad signal you can move it to a different spot. I have always felt that having a card in the back of your computer with all the electrical interference caused by the computer is something I don't want to deal with.
    Good Luck
    Jeremy
    It depends...
USB adapters can sometimes freeze up. I've had this problem with a Belkin 802.11b, and Motorola 802.11g adapters. I still think they are great because you can move the adapter around, and far from the PC, but PCI cards would be the most stable.
I think the ideal situation is a a/b/g PCMCIA card with a desktop pci adapter, so you can remove it for use with a laptop too. Also get a decent external antenna, and you'll want for nothing.
At least until 802.11n comes along....

  • What type of memory card should I purchase for my iMac (late 2009)?

I'd like to increase the memory on my computer, as I'm running some pretty hefty programs (Parallels with Quicken, CS6, and some architecture drafting softwares) that really bog down the processing response time. I believe that I have two slots in the back of my machine, to add memory to, but have no clue what to purchase.  I'd love to know what type of memory card I should purchase (or how to find out), in addition to the best place to buy it.
    Thank you for your feedback!
    Specs:
    iMac: 27-inch, late 2009
    Running: OSX Mountain Lion (10.8)
Processor: 3.06GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory (existing): 4GB 1067MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB

    Great idea! Thanks.

  • How do I find out what type of video card I have?

I just want to know what to do to know what type of video card I have. What steps do I take to find out?

  • What type of video card should I upgrade to?

I want to upgrade to Bryce 6.0... it has new features I want, plus, it is designed to fully utilize the dual processors in my G5.
But it requires a 128MB video card with OpenGL capability. My G5 came with (and still has) a 64MB GeForce FX 5200.
    1) So what type of video card should I get?
And I'm also concerned about the heat (and, to a lesser degree, the noise from a fan)... I've been checking out the ATI website, and a lot of their video cards require a 300 watt power supply.
    2) Have any of you experienced problems with with heat from a video card? My loft is fine this time of year, but it gets a little warm in the summer months, even with the breezes off of Lake Michigan.
Also, are there any other benefit to having a high-end video card?
I am open to all suggestions, criticisms, tips, recommendations and ideas. I have no brand loyalty when it comes to video cards. Just don't try talking me out of upgrading to Bryce 6.0.
    Thanks!
Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB RAM, Barracuda HD

If you don't need anyting high-end, check into the ATI RADEON 9600 XT with 128MB DDR SDRAM. ATI's 800XT is a very popular card for AGP-equipped PM G5s like yours, but more costly.

  • What type of fan should i buy for my MacBook?

    Hello.
I have a MacBook white 1.1  2006 Early. If i know  good this is the first MacBook.
    Core Duo 1,83 Ghz "Yonah"
    Maximal Ram  2GB of DDR2
I want to replace the fan What type of fan should i buy on e-bay with Free ships?
I Live is Hungary in Central Europe.
    Many Thanks.

I'd like to chime in and offer a differing opinion. The size factor of all SSD's don't leave much to question, but there are a couple other things that you can research and take into account.
The biggest thing to look for after the capcity you want is the connection speed. Your Macbook is last generation compatible with SATA 3.0Gbs transfer speeds, and while you can still utilize an SSD with SATA 6.0Gbs, your connection won't be able to fully utilize the full speed of such an SSD.
The upside is that SATA 3.0Gbs SSD's are selling for much less now on ebay and on Amazon since they are last generation, so you can pick one up on a budget. If money is not an issue and you'd like to spend a bit more for the latest generation SSD that you can transplant into the laptop you want to purchase after your mid 2009, a current generation SATA 6.0Gbs SSD is going to work fine and will also work great in whatever you upgrade to.

  • What kind of graphics card should i get to run final cut pro x on my 2008 mac pro?

What kind of graphics card should i get to run final cut pro x on my 2008 mac pro?

Hello Andres. I own an Early Mac Pro 2008, and have had the blessing of using both FCP X & Motion 5 for some time now. This is a pritty open question and it depends on your usage and the throughput nessesary to handle your work load. I can share what my set up is, & it may help you deside if this is enough power for you or help you move in another direction. Keep in mind that the buss speed and cpu are a big part of helping FCP X more so than the video card, although the video card does come into play here as well. Now if you are wanting to run Motion 5 as well, the video card is Almost Everything, and you need the biggest and best situation here that the throughput on this system will except. I'm running 14 gig of system ram, and the video card is an ATI Radeon 5870. For FCP X, running 1920x1280p footage optimised in pro-res 422, she can move along with some render time nessesary when dropping on the timeline, also filters, transistions, titles ex, have a bit of a laps time to render, but then she runs ok. This wait is not as much of a challenge with this set up as with Motion. I need a much bigger gpu on the video card for this app. Not sure if this computers throughput is really worth the upgrade. Beleive this though, Motion is demanding on using ALL you can give it. It is a Genious App, and it also calls for ALL THE POWER YOU CAN GIVE HER IN A VIDEO CARD. Conclution: if you are just starting which it sounds like, even a smaller video card than this can work For FCP X. Make sure you have at least 8 gig of cpu ram. 12 or more will help here. Also make sure the card is OpenCL compadible.....& this is in the thread above,,,,,,,,

  • What graphics card to buy for my PC so I can use target display on iMac?

    Hey,
Currently I have a ATI Radeon 5850 in my PC which I use to play BC2. I have my iMac which I use primarily, and a second screen next to it when I want to play BC2. I wish to get rid of the smaller screen and just use the iMac screen.
I understand that I can not use the 5850 with the iMac in target display mode.
What graphics card choices do I have so I can use it with the iMac in target display mode?
Is it just graphics cards that have Mini Display ports as standard? I know the 5870 Eyefinity edition works with target display mode, but this is outside of the price range Im looking for. Is there a solution for around £250 as I can always sell the 5850. I dont mind going Nvidia, Does anybody know if the GeForce 460/470 works with the iMac?
    Thanks, Simon.

Ive just saw that the new HD 6870 has mini display ports, and is in the perfect price range for me. Can anybody confirm that this card would work with target display mode?
    Thanks.

  • Edit: this thread is now about tiresmokes tech support ($250/hr) and what graphics card to buy.

my card overheated once, but i always hear people talking about overheating cards 3 times and fixing the problem and leaving the post with "thanks everyone, its fixed now".
now, with proper cooling, my problems show up about 10mins into 3dmark03 demo or 20 mins in a game. It seems to be heat related. Corrupt graphics, like blue lines across the screen and polygons that are all over the screen.
does overheating it once make it easier for the corruption to happen again? like at lower temps? my airflow is set up exactly like the alienware computer it came from (the radeon 9700 pro) (same case, on the inside).
i also noticed people were saying the PSU could be the problem, but in my case its a temperatuer problem right?

oh, it absolutely is heat related =P i dunno why i said it seems  . It needs a fan blowing air directly at it, otherwise those little heatsinks on the back of the gpu gets Freaking HOT! Im just wondering if by overheating once, it makes it easier to overheat again.
the radeon 9700 pro by the way. I put it in my old computer and overhated it, its got bad airflow and no fan to put near the card. i turned it off once i saw signs of overheating (other people say they overheat it till it turns itselff off.. . .  and then they end up fixing it). now i put it in the new rig which is the same as the case this card used to be in. Hrrm. Im just holding back on graphics card so using my friends, free is good !!
just letting you guys know, update on the heat situation, im ordering arctic silver 5, 2 fans and a fan controller. i contemplated a zalman, but im sure the stock heatsink is fine.
and a random comment for ya, DANG my old HDD is LOUD. with the fans on the psu heat sensor, the hdd is the loudest piece of this machine =P
edit. im getting the urge for a nice large storage hdd. I feel strange, i dont want to dirty my raptor. lol .

  • What kind of graphics cards can I get?

    I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 107NR
My graphics card is GeForce 8200M G
I need a  better graphics card but I do not know what is compatible with the laptop. Can someone give me a list of upgraded graphics cards I can get? I am wanting to play Diablo 3 but my card is too weak.

    Hi:
The video adapters are not upgradable without replacing the entire motherboard. The only motherboard I see with better graphics has the GeForce 9200M, which I doubt will be much better.
You would be better off selling or trading your notebook in and buying one with the graphics solution you are looking for.

  • Types of Graphics Cards

Looking to buy one of the 2014 MacBook Pro retina models and was wondering what issues there are if I bought one with the integrated (iris?) graphics cards rather than the a separate graphics card. Don't want to regret it later.
Also are there any compatible 3rd party 1tb  SSD drives that I can buy to upgrade the storage as Apple's prices are daylight robbery.
    Thanks

In regards to the GPU, what you originally get, you will have to live with.  It cannot be altered because it is soldered to the logic board.  Select before ordering.
Currently there are NO third party SSDs for the current crop of MBPs.  I suspect that there will be some eventually.
    Ciao.

  • Early Intel Mac Pro--what are my graphics card upgrade options?

I bought my Mac Pro in June, 2007 and want to improve my ability to use it for games--right now it's a bit of a dog in that respect. I have a 3 GHz dual Quad-Core processor setup that my hardware overview says is a MacPro2,1 model identifier. My stock graphics card is the GeForce 7300GT using the PCIe bus. Any help would be greatly appreciated--I know there are some expensive cards out there for newer models and that there is some discussion on what is compatible with earlier models like mine, but I would hope that my $5,000 system has no viable upgrade path for this.
    Rocketman

The card is dead silent on idle. I haven't tried it on any games yet, but with 720p HD content like .mkv files playing in VLC, the fan only goes up to 20-25%, and even at that I can't even hear it.
Idle fan speed is about 5%
Idle temps are 63 deg celcius (note that its summer, and my ambient room temps are hot)
Note these temps and fan speeds are under Windows 7 on ATI CCC. I can't get the temps and fan speeds under OSX, but I doubt they are different, the card is very quiet. And yes it does work under bootcamp
Aside from maybe dual flashed PC 1GB 4870s in crossfire, this is most likely the best gpu upgrade you can do presently; it is the best upgrade if you want to stay with apple oem parts.
There is always the dark horse: the GTX 285 from nvidia, however I doubt (wish) that it will be supported for 1st gen MPs. It's possible, though highly unlikely.

  • What sort of fxs card to buy for the cisco router 2801

    Hi
I have just bought a cisco router 2801 which l want to setup for my VIOP lab. Can pls advice me on what sort of fxs card l should buy for the cisco router 2801 to connect the ip phones or the analog phones.

    Hi
It depends what you want to do:
    IP Phones - need nothing
FXS - needed only if you want to connect analogue handsets or faxes
FXO - needed if you want to connect the system to a POTS line
There are further interfaces (BRI, PRI etc) if you have different PSTN connectivity.
What connectivity do you plan to have in your lab?
