What type of hard drive enclosure do I need for my old hard drive?

What type of hard drive enclosure do I need for the hard drive from my old macbook pro?  The graphics card doesn't work on the old laptop and there were some files that were not on my last backup that I transferred to the new macbook pro.

Check eBay. Any 2.5" USB SATA HDD enclosure.

  • What type of dvd drive enclosure do I need?

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro PRE unibody that I put a solid state drive in the standard HD and moved the standard HD to the dvd drive slot.   Now its time to buy a DVD drive enclosure but I cant seem to find one/figure out exactly what to buy.
I understand I need a PATA style DVD enclosure.   As thats what I bought for a caddy for my HD to put in that slot.    But all the enclosures I see that are PATA say they're for Powerbooks and older Macs.
Does anyone have a link to an external DVD drive enclosure I can order?
    Thank you.

Thanks,  but I don't see any enclosures.  I see total dvd drives.  I have my Superdrive that still works and just need an enclosure for it.   Theres a ton of them on Amazon, just don't know which version.
Thanks for the reply.  Good to know that worst case I can buy an all inclusive setup for 60 bucks.

  • What type of airport/time capsule do i need to acces my music from every device

Hello, i need some good advice....
I have an old external drive with my music on, and now i want to buy a new system/drive from where i can acces it from my windows pc with itunes and my iphone 5s. I was looking for a NAS with itunes-server possibilities but maybe a timecapsule can do the trick to?
Does someone has a similar setup?

You can't! If you and your friend are sharing the same Apple ID, then sync what you have on itunes onto his nano.

  • Cannot get iMovie to open because it's looking for an old ext drive. help

I just upgraded to 10.6.2 and Life 09. When I open iMovie it tries to open an old external drive /server path and just goes unresponsive. I cannot get rid of this even when I dump iLife .plist to force a reset. Can anyone tell me how I can actually start using this application?
    Thanks

You cannot download and install iSync, as the version you require is simply not available for download. Instead, you must extract it from your original Mac OS X 10.4.x Install or Upgrade DVD* using Pacifist, then update it by applying the appropriate Combo update package, which you can download from Apple.
    Pacifist is available here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com
To extract and install it, do this:
Launch Pacifist. Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 Install or Upgrade DVD in your optical drive and wait for it to mount. Press the now-activated Open Mac OS X Install Packages button in Pacifist. Wait for the window to appear - it will take some time to load all of the resources - then double click on the Contents of Essentials.pkg file to open it, double-click on the Applications folder, select iSync.app then press the Install button.
That will install a copy of iSync 2 into your Applications folder. Then run the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo update for PowerPC, which will update it to release 2.3.
That specific updater is available at this link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateppc.html
*Note that the original DVD required to perform the extraction and this updater are only intended for use with a PowerPC platform. Your intel-based MacBook requires a different updater should you wish for some reason to update it. The install DVD supplied with the MacBook cannot be used to extract iSync 2 for use on your PowerPC machine, as that disk contains an intel-only version of the application.

  • Details needed for using two hard drives with one iTunes library

I posted this under the iTunes section but now that I think of it, it's more of an Apple TV question since I'm only concerned about how it affects my 2 ATVs.
I have a MacMini(G4) that acts as a media server for our 2 ATVs. I use one library on the Mini which has been using an external 750GB drive. However, I'm at nearly 95% capacity now and want to invest in another external drive and use both. So the question I posted on the iTunes section was...
"With far too much content in iTunes (mostly for the Apple TVs) and after reading numerous posts about using external hard drives with iTunes I'm convinced that using two external drives is my best solution.
However, I did want to understand a bit more about the details of how iTunes will manage or at least keep track of, the media. Specifically, I'm thinking of the case were I add a movie to iTunes library (of course it will not copy the file into the iTunes folder).
What will occur if I later change any of the tags for the movie (e.g., name, genre, year, etc.). Will iTunes update this information and then update the Apple TVs once they resync with the iTunes library?"
So for the very knowledgeable folks here on the ATV section, what exactly does iTunes do in this case? Will my genres be updated correctly if I change something even though the content is not copied to the iTunes folder?

If you want to use two external drives to store your itunes content, there are a couple of ways you could go about it.
You could choose to have just movies (for example) on one HDD and everything else on the other. You could further choose to have your itunes music folder on one HDD and have all content copied to it by default. When it comes to movies (in this example) you can place these on your second HDD and add them to itunes by using OPT-drag, which will temporarily disable itunes from copying the file to your itunes library.
You could also entirely disable disable itunes copying files to your itunes music folder from the itunes preferences and manually manage all your content.
Personally I'd just buy a 2 TB (for example) drive and ebay your old drive once you have moved everything from it to your new one.

  • What types of files do HP printers natively support for wireless/bluetooth printing?

I've been trying to find this information, but digging it out of the HP Support Pages is daunting...
What are all the file types that HP wireless-enabled printers can support, without having to have some sort of driver/rip?  Since you can stick media cards directly into many printers, the printing driver/support must reside in the printer itself, so I'm assuming that simply transferring files to an HP wireless-enabled printer will cause them to print, ala the HP iPrint iPhone app.  But, other than the native iPhone image format, what is the full list of types of images/files that can be printed directly to the printers?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Great question, Mark!
We support several formats in our printers.  *Note, depending on the model, some formats may not be supported.  If you want a model that supports ALL formats mentioned look for a PhotoSmart Premium branded model like our new line in hpshopping.com with Bluetooth and Wireless Networking capability.
    Now for the formats:
    For iPhone:
    -Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif)
    -JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg)
    -Portable Network Graphics (*.png)
    -Device Independent Bitmap (*.bmp)
    -Tag Image File Format (*.tif)
    -Windows Metafile (*.wmf)
    -Enhanced Metafile (*.emf)
      For Sybian OS models:
    Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif)
    -JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg)
    -Portable Network Graphics (*.png)
    -Device Independent Bitmap (*.bmp)
    -Windows Metafile (*.wmf)
The above formats would be used when printing over wireless (wireless N, G, A - depending on radios in phone and access point)
For printing via Bluetooth, and UPnP/DLNA we use an xhtml-print standard to support the following:
    Image Format:
-JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg) -Portable Network Graphics (*.png)
    Document formats:
     XHTML-Print.

  • Advice needed for setting up hard drives.

My new editing machine is pretty well complete. Now it's time for configuring everything, so to bring it's performance up to speed.
    Starting with hard drives.
    Core Components list-
    MB- ASUS P9X79-PRO.
    CPU- i7-3930k.
    Memory- RipjawsZ 8x8 @1600. 64GB.
    GPU- GTX 670 4GB.
C: drive- SSD- intel 520s - 180GB (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OEM is on this drive).
Plus various 7200rpm disks, and more to be added.
I had someone install most of the components for me, as I'm far too ill to handle the heavy lifting. They did a fairly good job, cept for the hard drive setup. So I need to ask some questions to help me get these drives setup correctly, and running at their full potential.
There's some questions in particular that I must ask first-
1/ For some reason they put the SSD on a SATA II port, but put a DVD-ROM drive on a SATA III port. To correct that I just swapped around the SATA data connections between the two. Windows appeared to work ok when I rebooted, but when I gave it a quick test with the WEI, the test failed.
I expected some problem to come as a result.
    Here's what it said-
After several reboots the WEI finally ran, and gave the primary disk a higher score than before swapping the connections .
My question is- Should I take the fact that WEI is now able to run the primary disk test as an indication that it's working fine, and setup correctly ?
I also ran several HD Tune tests for that SSD. It's still a bit slower than I expected.
2/ Raid-0 setup. I take it that plugging 2x 7200rpm disk drives into the Marvell ports would be the parsimonious solution, so my question there is- What is the procedure for setting up a 2x disk Raid-0 on those Marvell ports?
The two disks for RAID-0 I chose are the cheap 'n nasty model from Seagate's 2TB range. I know they're not reliable, which is why I'm not relying on them to store such things as project files, or project media (for things like that I have a Seagate Constellation ES.2 2TB) . This RAID-0 volume's sole purpose is to move along high bit rate Uncompressed Intermediatory video at an acceptable speed.
If the data is lost to disk failure it's not a huge problem. The videos can be rendered again.
I tested both of these (see images below) Seagate Barracuda's multiple times in HD Tune. Are their speeds close enough to each other to be paired together in a RAID-0 ?
    Barracuda A-
    Barracuda B-
3/ So far I have four 7200rpm drives, but wish to add two more.
The model I'm considering is the Seagate ST2000NC000 Constellation CS.2 2TB .On the surface they seem like good value, and faster than my Constellation ES.2, but what's the catch?  Are they suitable, and reliable enough to hold such things as project files?

Non-recoverable read errors per bits read:
Value line CS: 1 in 10**14 (1.065% annualized failure rate)
    See http://www.seagate.com/em/en/internal-hard-drives/enterprise-hard-drives/hdd/enterprise-va lue-hdd/
    Constellation ES2: 1 in 10**15 (0.73% annualized failure rate)
    See http://www.seagate.com/em/en/internal-hard-drives/enterprise-hard-drives/hdd/enterprise-ca pacity-3-5-hdd/
For testing whether everything works as it should, try the Passmark benchmark and Prime95 stress-test.

  • New Hard Drive, No Access to ITunes Library on Old Hard Drive

My hard drive died yesterday, and no data recovery was possible, so I lost my ITunes library, which was made up mostly of songs that I had imported from my extensive CD collection.
I have no backup CD with the library on it.
I had hoped that I'd be able to transfer over the songs from my IPod to the new hard drive that I had installed today. I downloaded ITunes and attached my IPod, and received a message stating that my IPod was synced with a different computer, and only had the option to (1) Transfer songs bought from the ITunes store, or (2) Sync with the new computer and erase everything off of my IPod.
I read a few help articles about using the IPod as a hard drive, but I can't do that as I don't have access to the original ITunes Library folder.
    Any ideas?

There's an answer to your question but first it's time for a little lecture - if it makes a difference, I don't feel any better about this than you do. ; - )
I hope you take this unfortunate state of affairs as an opportunity to learn a very important lesson: Back up your iTunes library as soon as you can after resolving this situation because right now you are only one glitch of your iPod away from losing your music entirely.
Many people come to the Discussions having lost their music in just such situations and, believe me, it's not a happy time for anyone.
If you place any importance on your playlists and the data they depend on, make sure to include the iTunes Library files in your back-up regimen as well.
Anyways, that's the lecture. The answer to your problem should be found in Zevoneer's post .
Good Luck! But once you have the music back on your computer, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

  • What type of authorized items that we can bring for a MCSD exam?

    Hi all,
I wonder if I can bring a reference type text book during a MCSD exams?
In the security policy section https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/certification-exam-policies.aspx#security-policies it stated i can not bring unauthorized-items, this mean there are items that are authorized (api reference), is it correct?
    Thanks,

Nope. Basically, everything is unauthorized, except for clothes (excluding a coat). No books of any kind, no writing implements or scratch paper (except for the one that the center supplies), no mobile phones or other electronic devices. In one exam center
they even required that I leave my wallet in a locker outside the exam room.
