Thanks for reading my messageHello,
TWO_TASK is a UNIX-specific environment variable. The equivalent on Windows is called "LOCAL". You can find out more about LOCAL here:
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/win.102/b14304/ap_net.htm#i634314
I don't think LOCAL will be relevant for you. You should know if you set it - it does not get set automatically.
The above link comes from the "Oracle® Database Platform Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Microsoft Windows (32-Bit)" located here:
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/win.102/b14304/toc.htm
1) I assume you are installing the software on Windows - is that correct?
2) What is the value of your PATH variable?
3) Please post the sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files from each Oracle Home. Change proprietary information if necessary.
4) Please post the listener.ora file from the server software Oracle Home. Change proprietary information if necessary.
Thanks,
Mark -
Oracle database 7 for download
Dear all,
There's an oracle database 7 in my company. Because of company requirment , i need to upgrade it to oracle database version 10gR2. But we have only one DB ( no clustering) in our environment, so i think maybe installing an oracle DB 7 first to simulate exporting / importing data to oracle 9i is a safer solution. But i couldn't find the original oracle DB 7 install CD, could it be possible to download it from any website? Any help would be appreciated.
Best Regards. An Oracle7 home is easy to clone. Just TAR the ORACLE_HOME from the source system and unTAR it at the target.
As long as the OS version is the same !
You must first :
a. create the Unix group and username with the same GID and UID (or you'll have to change them for the extracted directories and files with chgrp and chown if you can't create the same GID/UID)
b. create the same directory structure (if you have ORACLE_BASE defined in the source system, set that up as well)
c. create the .profile (or .cshrc) on the new server as the same as on the source server
d. ensure that Unix kernel parameters relating to SHM and SEM are setup on the new server
After extracting the ORACLE_HOME, you have to update the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora entries to reflect the new server hostname/ip address.

What type of data I must use in the column (SQL)?
Hi Guys,
I have a little bit problem with this value (2_1232_123). I don´t know what type of value can be. This value is the result of the concatenation of three integer and "_".
The code I have is:
While readerCodeAccount.Read
Code_Account = readerCodeAccount.Item(0)
End While
Try
IDTextBox.Text = Code_Company & "-" & Code_Accountvarchar(20)
But why storing it in the database if you can generate the concatenation on the fly in the SELECT statement

Oracle Database 10g r2 download problems
I cannot seem to download oracle database 10g release 2 for windows at all. I have tried consistently the entire day. Is it available for download?
As I need this software quite urgently, are there any mirror sites or alternative sites that I can download it from? Or is there anywhere that I can source the installation cd's from... I am based in Johannesburg, South Africa?Which one is best for an x86_64 install? These options are platform independent (x86_64). These options are dependent on purpose of use.
I plan to recompile PHP 5.2.0 to connect to the Oracle database. This is the purpose. And according this information I suggest you to install InstantClient.
Note standalone Instant client is shipped also as separate installation archive, so you don't need to download whole DB installation archive. You can find it here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html
I would like to install client software on a different machine which is running Fedora Core 5 with IP address 192.168.0.5. But the Universal Installer refuses to run on Fedora Core 5 -- it is not a supported operating system. There is no magic to allow running a client on Fedora Core 5 or 6?Yes, there is. Execute: ./runInstaler -ignoreSysPrereqs -
Download link for Oracle Database 10g Documentation seems to be broken.
Hi,
I am trying to download the documentation for Oracle Database 10g but the zip archive seems to be corrupt. The md5 checksum for the file I have downloaded is:
$> md5 Downloads/B19306_01.zip
MD5 (Downloads/B19306_01.zip) = 75551f2bb5cfeecedcd08e2e6ac71bf7
and the unzip output is:
$> unzip Downloads/B19306_01.zip
Archive: Downloads/B19306_01.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of Downloads/B19306_01.zip or
Downloads/B19306_01.zip.zip, and cannot find Downloads/B19306_01.zip.ZIP, period.
Also, the file size of my downloaded file is 443.4 MB but the size mentioned on the download page is 445.8 MB
I have twice tried to download the file but both times I get the same corrupt zip error. Can any one confirm the status of the file.

Backup Oracle Database whilst online
Guys looking for some help, I have an Oracle database that must run 24hours a day but I need to be able to back this database up daily, from what I understand I have to make the database run in archive log mode to be able to perform a hot backup.
I have found out that currently my database is in noarchive log mode
Can someone help me with the commands to put the database is achivelog mode
Then can you help me with the command to backup the database using RMAN I have read some documentation do I need to just issue the backup database command or do I need to backup the archive logs files as well ?Do you want to teach me lesson ? I'm working with Oracle database since 1988, and I'm using RMAN since version 8.0 (15 years ago, or so).
And please read the link I posted above.
1) ... At lease two redo logs destination is recommended so that one redolog destination is keep working while other is filled up or vice versa.
And you think I don't know that ? And that's not multiplexing.
2) Catalog database is optional but it is recommended.
It's absolutely not needed, and I consider it just and overhead (another database to manage and to synchronize).
3) You need to setup archivelog retention policy so that it cleans up from LOG destination after certain period of time.
You use DELETE INPUT option in your script, but it looks like you don't know what it means.
Please follow oracle documentation for best practice .
Again, are you teaching me lesson ? Oracle documentation is my bible.
Backup is very important for a DBA so you need to set up precisely so that you can recover the database during disaster
Backup is very important for a DBA ? What a news !! About disaster recovery, at your #1 you said "redo logs are very important to restore database" : or we mean something different for "disaster recovery", or you are totally wrong. -
Iam looking for a Oracle Certification in Oracle 9i DBA. Before i register with any of the authorised oracle center,i would like to know that on what platform Oracle Database is more popular... is it Windows Or Unix?
The clarification here is not about the ease of getting the certification on any platform, but it is about the market value.
please advise by return
Thanks & best regards
- Mohammed YusuffJust a quick thought but probably best to learn it on a Unix type platform. The Windows version is easy enough but learn the in and outs of Unix and you will probably gain more. Big companies from what I have seen run Oracle on Unix machines. But I have seen some smaller shops and even bigger running it on windows server. Either way you will learn something.

Oracle Database on Demand (DoD)
Dear Oracle Guru's:
What is Oracle Database on Demand (DoD)? My understanding is that, it is the lingo used for Oracle Database over cloud. Please correct my understanding
In either case i have following question on Oracle DoD
1) IS there any limitation over the concurrents users on Oracle DoD ? Or thats limited to the service/pricing on Oracle DoD?
2) IS there any limitation on transaction with respect to data volume per user ?
3) Does my application need changes while connecting to Oracle DoD ( apart from connection string, i.e. Host name and SID) ?
4) Where I can find more details on Oracle DoD?
5) Where I can find pricing details on Oracle DoD ?
6) Any other limitatiins with Oracle DoD?

Hi,
How can i check, what type of database am using and which version?
Can anyone help me to know?I am not sure what exactly you mean by "what type of database am using " but you can try this:

This will give you detailed version number of the database components. You can also use
select from PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION;*
