What types of audio surround sound does apple tv support

Does apple tv support 7.1 6.1 or 9.1 audio surround sound?

Yes, just like content acquired from any other site, not all content supports surround sound and most supports 5.1.  I have never heard of 9.1.

Very little, but you can increase the information available by enabling debugs on the controller.

  • Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the new MacBook Pro retina in an extended display mode?

Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the MacBook Pro retina display in an extended display mode? What is the output resolution and is sound also transmitted across?

SB1983, by extended display do you mean mirror?  All MBP since early 2011 support it if they are running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  The resolution will depend on your Apple TV (2 Gen is 720 and 3rd Gen 1080) and wifi, it will lose some quality but I find it minimal.  It does also mirror the sound.

  • Why does apple only support mp4 videos?

It's not really a problem, i usually use my friends computers to convert my videos since mine is so slow.
But why does apple only support MP4 and MOV formats? Why not MPEG or DivX?
I know they cannot use WMV because it is a Microsoft format.
It's just sometimes when i convert videos, the audio becomes out of sync or iTunes complains it's not playable on my iPod.
I would just like to know why?
    Thanks for your time.

If Apple chooses to go with H.264 or MP4 or whatever else they want to support, maybe it would be real nice if iTunes could automatically convert to those formats. So if I dropped my universally standard (and supported by most DVD players) DivX video clip in the library, iTunes would convert and format the video to an iPod friendly format.
So, let me see if I understand this correctly. You want Apple to pirate proprietary codecs from DivX and build them into iTunes QT access. Tell me, does this mean that Apple is working as your agent and you will be the one spending time behind bars or paying the fines. Or, are you saying that Apple should act as an agent for DivX and charge you for a version of iTunes with legal codecs installed. How about Windows Media? Want to double the cost? What about Real? Or maybe Apple should have different versions of iTunes -- one for you and one for the guy who lives next door who uses old Indeo files?
I have tried several 3rd party converters and they all suck.
Perhaps you should be more selective in choosing a converter or invest in a commercial product which is supported by the people selling it.

  • Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?  I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.

Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?
I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.  I had a heck of a time getting my Detroit Tigers Baseball team schedules migrated (but Major League Baseball supported the subscriptions, so it occurred).  As I work internationally, having these calendar subscriptions on the new Calendar would be very useful.
If one goes to the Apple site, and seeks calendars [http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/index1.html], they are shunted to MobileMe [https://www.icloud.com/mobileme/not_found/], with the note "MobileMe is closed. Go to iCloud."  But, I do not see how to get subscriptions from iCloud.
    Thanks.

The problem is that many of these calendars were hosted on MobileMe. I actually tried about 20 at random, and only two worked! Not all of the failures were ex-MobileMe, some were on other servers but produced 'File Not Found'.
Strangely, this one worked despite its URL:
    http://ical.mac.com/ical/UK32Holidays.ics
Until the people who publish these calendars (it's not Apple, they are third-party) wake up and find alternative servers these calendars are not available.
There may be other sources which work - try Googling.

Is there any quality App for the iPhone 4S similar to Google Wallet or does Apple now support Google Wallet?  thanks

    SOLVED!!!!!
    This is the app:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dictionary.appender/id650562573?mt=8
I emailed the maker of the app and he said to just follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094
File share the .dictionary file to your ipad and then add it from the list of addable languages.  It took a minute for it to show up on my ipad but it DID work.  It is working with iBooks.
    Happy reading.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

  • Does Apple Still Support FCP7 Software Updates?

I'm selling a Mac Pro and after wiping it clean of my identity, I want to install FCP7 from the original disks. Does Apple still support software updates, or do they reside somewhere?

Use the Software Update and you can find it.  Or...
I googled "fcp 7.0.3 update download" and got this:

  • Why does Apple not support GiffGaff?

GiffGaff allow you to tether and use your standard data allowance, but Apple don't even recognize GiffGaff as a network - so you can't enable any kind of tethering. The only workaround appears to be to jailbreak your phone. Why does Apple not support this network?

    Nobody here would know that.

  • I get no 5.1 surround sound from apple tv2 for any media

I have apple tv2 and think its great. However I have it connected to my ken wood surround sound system and only get sound from 2 speakers for all media including movies, netflix, my iTunes library and airplay from my iPhone or ipad.
There is no problem with connections and the same fibre optic cable supports 5.1 in the same port of my ken wood when it it connected to my DVD player.
My Dolby in settings is set to on.
    Any suggestions

You really need to specify exactly what imac you have.  Current ones I believe have an optical (out) and in and I think that can be combined with usb to produce multi-channel sound.  But it's just an academic exercise if you don't have the optical.
Also, google "5.1 audio on imac" for lots of hits on this topic.

  • How can I hook up my Sony surround sound to Apple TV to watch streaming videos?

How can I hook up Apple TV to my Sony surround sound to watch streaming video from Netflix?

    Which Apple TV is it?
There should be outputs you can use for video/audio. The latest Apple TV has HDMI out. Find the correct cable that matches your TV and follow Sony's user manual to hook everything up correctly.

  • Does Apple TV support 1080p?

    Hello All,
I just purchased an Apple TV and the set up was very easy. My TV is 1080p, but when I hooked up my ATV it only gave me the option of 1080i. Right now I have the ATV hooked up with component and rca audio plugs. If I use HDMI does that somehow flag the ATV to give 1080p as an option? Right now it only gives the option of 720p.
Also the movie I rented was 5.1, but I only got normal surround thru my sound system (which supports 5.1)
    thanks,
    Mike

Right now I have the ATV hooked up with component and rca audio plugs.
If you use HDMI there is two-way communication between the devices, so automatic switching of video resolution is possible. With component, however, you have to set the output resolution manually. As for audio, you won't get surround sound with rca plugs, as they are analog. You will need to use either HDMI or an optical audio cable for the sound if you want 5.1 (for videos that have it).

  • Does Apple TV support Dish Network Remote Access ?

My husband has an Ipad Mini - we have a vacation cabin and like to watch our Dish Network Anywhere on our HD TV there.  Up till now we used my husbands old laptop which was hooked up to the TV - but now he has an Ipad Mini.
Can anyone tell me if we bought Apple TV could we then stream (airplay) our Dish Remote access to our TV ?

Several months ago, before Dish updated the Dish Anywhere app, you could push video/audio from an iPhone or iPad to Apple TV (Air Play) provided you were in "Mirroring" mode. Not ideal because if using an iPad your 16:9 "big screen" displays a 4:3 image (wide format content shows black borders on all four sides). Updates by Dish seem to have solved the aspect problem - you don't have to be in Mirroring mode. BUT, if the Dish Anywhere app is set to SQ mode, only audio makes it to Apple TV. If you change to Dish's HQ mode, video and audio are displayed. The issue here is that my link to the Hopper is DSL and HQ streams stop and start every few seconds. Mirroring mode does not fix the problem. Dish has had a few reports on this issue, but has no resolution.
