What typically is in a bios and drivers update?

So I know computers need to update the bios and drivers, but no one has ever explained why. What is in bios or drivers that would need to be updated?

Hi,
All computer programs are not perfect therefore from time to time vendors have to release fixes. In many cases, a new fix may introduce new bug(s). Machine readable programs are BIOS, drivers, micro-codes are the same therefore from time to time vendors have to release new fix(es) to imrpove thrie products. Same as application programs and the Operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, DOS ...).
Regards.

  • 200n Update Bios and Drivers - where?

Where can you get free driver and Bios updates for Windows 7.
Googled Pheonix for Bios and get directed to a site which scans your system giving a list of updates which you find you have to pay $30 for the updates. Lenovo site appears to have nothing for 3000 200n 0769

    Hi bellcart,
    Here's your driver page.
What drivers are you looking for?  Do you have unknown devices in Device Manager?  Almost all the drivers on that page are for xp or Vista.  Vista drivers sometimes work for Windows 7.
I would run Windows Update and check the optional updates for anything you might need.
Edit:  I would stay away from the drivers update sites.  They say they find drivers in their scan, then you buy it, and then the drivers won't install.

  • Upgrade BIOS and drivers have possibly corrupted drive. OS will not boot.

    Model: Toshiba P505-8980
    Part Number: P6PG0U-005002
OS:  Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (upgraded from Home Premium)
    6 gig RAM, 500gig HD
    Actions:
I haven't started up my computer in a while.  First I installed the critical and optional updates (3 total) from windows update, rebooted, and Toshiba Service Center popped up and said that there was the BIOS 3.10 update and the HDD/SSD Alert update.  Through the Service Center I downloaded and installed the BIOS update, at the end it seemed as if there was an error.  I rebooted the computer and everything seemed ok, so I downloaded the HDD/SSD update through the Service Center.  Upon rebooting the drive would not boot.  (Screen remained blank with a blinking cursor and HDD light was not on.)  There are no accessories/USB devices/drives attached.  After a reboot I checked the BIOS and it recognizes the Hard drive, I restored all settings in BIOS to default and rebooted.  The computer started receiving stop errors (blue screen) and stuck in a reboot loop.  I entered the BIOS, restored default settings again and rebooted, I could get to safe mode and it would receive stop errors trying to load disk.sys file.  I also tried last known good configuration and that wouldn't work either.  After a while the laptop was able for me to select to try and repair the disk using the repair utility.  It reported that there may be partition errors (on the last step of recovery) and I selected to repartition the drive to factory default with the Toshiba repair tools.  It got to about 98-99% and received errors at the end.  I tried using a Windows disk to reinstall the OS, but it reported it couldn't install on any of the drive partitions because of an error in the boot configurations.  After trying to repair again it doesn't report any disks or partitions.  Currently after booting it reports now that there is an error that occurred while attempting to read boot configuration.  File: \Boot\BCD|Status: 0xc000000f.  Guessing that the boot sector got corrupted.  After reading that BIOS isn't recommended to be installed while in windows, I'm wondering if using the service center messed something up.
Question 1:  Any recommended actions to take now?  No recovery disk available
Question 2:  Is there a way to configure the service center to download a BIOS update and be able to save it instead of only being able to install it within windows and the service center?
    Thanks in Advance!

I was able to get into system recovery.  This system recovery was different then the first one I came across.  Underneath the Command Prompt option there was a selection for a Toshiba based restore.  That is the one I tried that failed at 98-99%  This system recovery just has the standard options.  At first it showed me the original OS of Home Premium (recovered).  I tried to repair the Home Premium and it still wouldn't work.  "Startup could not repair the problem".  On the many tries the probelms were either "Failed Installation" or "Partition Table".  Then when I tried loading the OS it would blue screen and reboot repeatedly.  So I loaded up Windows 7 Professional from a different CD to at least get the OS working.  I tried Repairing but that didn't work with the same errors, and it also reported that there was no system image on the disk.  I did a Custom (fresh) install and had all items copied to Windows.Old folder.  So now I have an OS, BUT I can't activate it now even with the keys that I have from the old version because it said the key was only used for upgrade, not clean installs.  So now I'm left with trying to find a way to get the original Home Premium image so I can load that and then upgrade since I have the keys I need.  I tried doing repairs again, this time it showed me two Windows 7 Professional and one Windows 7 Home Premium.  Again I tried repairing the Home Premium but it came back with the same errors.  Now all that remains is just the fresh install of Windows 7 Professional that I installed but can't activate with the key.  Anyway I can get/download a factory image from Toshiba?  I only just bought the laptop shortly before Christmas.

  • IdeaCentre K330 BIOS and Driver Updates Windows 8 (8.1 64 Bit)

I have a IdeaCentre K330 (i7) which I bought 3 Years ago. I have now Windows 8 64 Bit (8.1). And my BIOS Version is DKKT23AUS (BIOS Date 06/10/2011). Is there a newer BIOS version available ? There is on Lenovo site BIOS version 15 (Version DKJY15AUS), but I don't know if that is newer than mine. Can someone help ?
I have checked the Lenovo page to search for newer Driver Version. And I realized that the United States Lenovo site is different from the Chineese Lenovo Site. In the Chinese Lenovo Site there are new Drivers listed for the Windows 8 64 Bit operating system and newer versions od Drivers, but in the United States site there is nothing. Is it because the Chineese Site is more frequently updated ? Can I download the Drivers from the Chineese Lenovo Site (for example Realtek Audio Driver)? Will there be problems ?
Click HERE for the the Lenovo K330 Chineese Site. (Use Google Translate)
Click HERE for the Lenovo K330 United States Site.
This is the Image of the Chineese Lenovo Webiste:

So no one knows if there is a newer BIOS version for Lenovo K330 ? If not here where can I ask to get answers ?

  • Dividing IVY From Sandy BIOS's and Drivers

    This is not a bash! Only a suggestion to the visiting MSI employees that show up a lot more often nowdays to consider passing along to their bosses. Maybe to help clarify to many unsuspecting product users wanting to update their BIOS and drivers. The Z68A-GD65(G3) is used here for an example;
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z68A-GD65--G3-.html#/?div=BIOS
To eliminate confusion, separate the two from each other. Running Ivy and Sandy together is a recipe to nothing but problems. As for the Driver Section, it has ME7 for Sandy. Granted, the ME8 is part of the driver package download for Ivy, but it is not listed along with the P6 update. Many will miss this important step if trying to use P6 and update to an Ivy CPU.
    Other thoughts;
Unless planning on running an Ivy CPU with PCI-E 3.0 support, this Ivy update is not recommended in the first place. If an Ivy CPU is wanted along with all the 7 chipset perks it provides, get a Z77 platform people!
IMHO, only the Z68 (G3)'s really get much of any benefit out of using an Ivy CPU (other than Z77 of course). P67, what do you get? ClickBIOSII and potential problems, problems, problems, that's about it.

Right, not a 6 series chipset itself problem, but the Ivy UEFI/BIOS interaction dealing with the 22nm and 32nm processors.
Maybe the goal at MSI will be to offer a single UEFI/BIOS update and associated drivers that covers both CPU architectures without having a need to divide them.

  • MSI X58 PLATINUM, the latest bios and how to enable turbo boost

    1) Wich motherboard is ? MSI X58 PLATINUM or MSI X58 PLATINUM SLI ?
    2) What is the lastest version Bios and where can i get ?
    3) How to enable turbo boost in this motherboard ?
    4) Thanks so much guys.

My bad. The obvious lack of your self research got the better of me. I do not take helping, if I can, lightly. This is new technology, & a lot of expertise is in short supply. I downloaded the manual on this board & read the bios section, & in CMOS Setup, you should find an "Enable" setting for Turbo Boost. If you don't, please contact MSI Tech Staff @ http://ocss.msi.com.tw Also, (in your manual), is a reference under "Intel Turbo Boost Tech", which clearly states "for further information please refer to Intel's official website". By your original post, CPU-Z says it's an SLI? What did you buy? Does it say on the retail box? At MSI's website, the X58 Platinum (not the SLI), has version 1.0 bios offered in three global region zip files. M7522v1.0 Euro.zip, M7522v1.0 ASIA.zip, & E7522v1.0.zip. J.T.N. is correct, the SLI board takes something else. Are both boards bios's compatable? I have no idea. Recommend step one as to confirm with MSI what board you truly have & go from there.

  • HT4623 what if you go to general and the new up date is not there

what if i go to general and my update does not automatic appear and my device need to be updated?

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • BlueScreen Error 9f and Windows Updates won't install

I just got my new T430 machine on Monday, but Windows 7 is already having issues - as of the first day!
When it goes into sleep mode it ends up shutting down instead, and I get a BlueScreen 9f error after I restart.  When I try to install Windows Updates (I looked up this problem and I found information on the biometric fingerprint software causing problems - a problem that might be fixed with windows updates) it keeps failing.  While it is trying to update, my computer shuts down.
It's brand new (it's actually a replacement for my last T430 that was having too many issues), and I'm worried.  Any ideas what the issue could be?  Is this something I just have to contact support for, or can I fix this myself?  I've tried searching online for solutions, but no luck yet.
    Greatly appreciate any help, thanks!

    Hi, cberk
I did some research on the issue and found this document from Microsoft. It seems that this issue can be caused by an outdated BIOS and drivers. Due to this, I would recommend checking that all the drivers and the BIOS has been updated. It sounds like a few parts of your computer aren't communicating properly, which is most likely due to outdated drivers. The latest drivers for your system can be found here.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • BIOS PROBLEM after updating bios with liveupdate

i need help. my pc was doing fine until i updated the bios and drivers.
now it can't even boot to bios. can't see or do anything .
tried to repair my self by some doing some research,
resetting the cmos and removing the battery but no luck until now.
my situation is similar to this video.
hope someone could help me out.

    Quote from: ghost.u94 on 13-June-15, 18:41:14
solved- it was the dimm 3 and 4 which got errors.
not using dual channel now. only using DIMM1,2 but at least it boots up.
Then your board is most likely defective. Reseat cpu and see if pins in the socket are bent. Else it might be the slots or their wiring.

  • Synchronous and Asynchronous updating in LIS

    Dear experts
    What is the difference between
Synchronous and Asynchronous updating in LIS ?
There are three radio buttons for ASYNCHRONOUS UPDATING [1],[2],[3]
What is the significanse of each of them?
    Regards
    Siddharth

    Hi siddarth
Difference between synchronous update & asynchronous update
Synchronous update -Immediate start, i.e., when an event takes place that triggers an update
Asynchronous update - Delayed start, i.e., updating is slightly delayed after an event that triggers an update

    hi buddy
this kind of thing will come in picture when u take some order from outside with customer material I.E. u act as subcontractor
at this time the value updation is not required so we can use unvaluated material type UNBW

  • Difference bet ween snchronous and asychronous updation

    hi
what is the difference between synchronous and asychronous updation and processing.

    Hi Jyothsna,
<b>Asynchronous Update</b> – The program does not wait for the work process to finish the update. Commit Work.
<b>Synchronous Update</b> – The program wait for the work process to finish the update. Commit Work and Wait.
Asynchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction does not wait for any updates it produces to be completed. It simply passes the updates to the SAP update service. Asynchronous processing therefore usually results in faster execution of your data transfer program.
Asynchronous processing is NOT recommended for processing any larger amount of data. This is because the called transaction receives no completion message from the update module in asynchronous updating. The calling data transfer program, in turn, cannot determine whether a called transaction ended with a successful update of the database or not.
If you use asynchronous updating, then you will need to use the update management facility (Transaction SM12) to check whether updates have been terminated abnormally during session processing. Error analysis and recovery is less convenient than with synchronous updating.
Synchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction waits for any updates that it produces to be completed. Execution is slower than with asynchronous updating because called transactions wait for updating to be completed. However, the called transaction is able to return any update error message that occurs to your program. It is much easier for you to analyze and recover from errors.
    Hope this resolves your query.
    <b>Reward all the helpful answers.</b>
    Regards
