What USB wireless adapters do you recommend

Any. Recommendations on a USB wireless adapter to use in my G5 iMac? I have a FIOS 802.11n router and the airport card is not compatible with the n router. I thought if I used a USB n wireless adapter it might improve the speed. Any recommendations ?

  • What USB graphics adapter do you recommend for Lion?

The Apple geniuses told me Kensington Universal Graphics Adapter.  It doesn't work, even after searching forever for and downloading the Lion drivers.  (Though there is a possibility that it is actually defective.  It isn't lighting up when hooked up which I would think it would do even if the computer is not seeing it.)
There are several out there that are Mac compatable but not necessarily compatable with Lion.
I would like to run my MBP in clamshell with 2 external monitors.
I have actually ordered this one: PLUGABLE UGA 125 (displaylink DL-125 chipset) but I don't know for sure that it will work as it doesn't say Lion compatable.  Display Link has a Lion driver so I am thinking it might.
    Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I found one that works.  It is the plugable UGA 125 that I mentioned above.  You will have to download the Display Link Lion drivers.  It is also only good for resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 so if you have a monitor with finer resolution as I do then you will not have the best look.  Fortuntaley I only need it for email, web, etc. while I am running PS and Lightroom on my Dell monitor...so..it works.  It only took 6 weeks.

  • OS X Lion Compatible USB Wireless Adapters

I, like many others (https://discussions.apple.com/message/18383471?tstart=0), have been having a very hard time staying connected to my wireless network in Lion.
This only happens on my iMac, my MBP is fine.
Sometimes it's not too bad, sometimes my iMac is just unuseable because it cant stay connected for more than a second.
I can sometimes get around it by:
    - disabling / enabling Wifi
    - restarting my router
    - restarting my Mac
Obviously all of this is a massive hindrance on my productivity as a web designer and is very frustrating, especially when none of these methods even solve my problem.
Anyway, rant over. Does anyone know of any USB wireless adapters that work on OS X? As I'm having trouble finding a straight answer online.
Also please note, I posted a message similar to this several months ago and people started trying to fix my Wifi problem instead of recommending USB adapters. I am through with trying to resolve this issue manually, it has resulted in far too much wasted time and I've completely lost patience with it. Also it seems impossible to fix, seeing as there are over 120 pages of problems in the thread I posted above
If anyone could advise me on the best USB solution that would be great.

I’m interested in some feedback as well. I have an iMac and want to install Lion but I don’t want to have to deal with a bunch of issues other than what has been posted on the Adobe web site under “Known Issues Adobe products on Mac OS 10.7 Lion”. I will be purchasing a new MacBook Pro this week, it has Lion preinstalled and want to install CS5 so some feedback would be awesome. Thanks

  • What brand of printer do you recommend for my imac 27?

What brand of printer do you recommend for my imac 27 from 2009?

    I bought a Hewlett-Packard M451dn color laser jet. I'm happy with it.
I selected it after having a horrible experience with a low-cost Xerox color laser jet.
The things I like the best:
Fast warm-up time. No waiting around like solid-ink printers from Xerox have.
No odor. Solid-ink printers have a smell like baked crayons.
Very good print quality - real Postscript.
Duplex printing (both sides of the paper)
I connect to it wirelessly through my Airport; I connect an ethernet cable from the printer to the Airport then my Mac communicates wirelessly.

  • What external hard drive to you recommend to free up space on an old Macbook Pro?

My Macbook Pro is approx. 5 years old. I have since gotten an imac, however would like to use my old Creative Suite 2 on the macbook. When I updated it to "Lion" - it denied access to my creative suite apps. I have since contacted Adobe, and they have given me a solution to get it up and running again, however, my startup disk is just about FULL. Therefore I can't upgrade or really even open more than one app without getting the warning pop up about getting rid of some files asap or risk malfunction of the laptop.
What external hard drive do you recommend to get the most bang for my buck in terms of offloading a massive amount of photos to in order to be able to use the laptop again?

Your picture folder would have to be 10 times larger and then it would be close to 1 TB in size.  I have an aphorism, 'one cannot have too much storage'.  If the bank account can afford it, follow Ralph's advice and do go for the larger storage drive.  Given enough time, you might just grow into it..
Now there is an issue that you should consider.  Since these pictures will no longer be on your MBP, do you want to have them backed up?  If so, you then are going to need an additional HDD to store the backups.  All HDDs will eventually fail, you just do not know when.
    Ciao.

  • USB wireless adapters

Any suggestions for a good USB wireless adapter. Like to put the emac G4 upstairs in the kids room as it has been a great computer.

How well such an adapter works depends on whether the eMac has USB 1.1 or USB 12.0. The fast way to tell is to do "About this Mac.." from the Apple menu and click on "More Info..." in the resulting window, That brings up System Profiler. The first screen should say "Hardware Overview" at the top.
Look for the line that starts "Machine Model" or "Model Identifier" (depending on the OS level). If the model code is "PowerMac4,4," it has USB 1.1; if "PowerMac6.4," it has USB 2.0.
A USB wireless adaptor--often called a "dongle"--can only deliver about "wireless b" speeds on a 1.1 port but it will work. USB 2.0 allows the dongle to run at its full, rated speed.
DON'T just run out and buy any old dongle from an electronics superstore. Most do not come with Mac drivers and you cannot get Mac support from the makers' web site. Trust me on this--I've looked.
The safest action is to order one from a known Mac-friendly supplier. I like this one:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXP2802NU2C/
It will run at full "n" speed (the current fastest technology) on a USB 2.0 port, and the moveable cradle lets you position the device for best reception.

  • What kind of camcorder would you recommend for FCE HD 3.5?

    Hello everyone,
I'm very new here and have been trying to search for the answer to my question without having to bug anyone, but now I am under the gun, as it were.
I need to purchase something within a week and a half and would truly appreciate suggestions from anyone here. Here are a list of my questions and I hope you all will be kind of enough to help me. Thank you in advance.
1- I would prefer a camcorder that records to a DVD, but if tape is way better, please let me know.
2- I see that FCE does not support AVCHD. What other pitfalls are there to avoid in purchasing a camcorder that is compatible with FCE HD?
3- My dream is to have a camcorder that can record in 24p, but can't seem to determine whether FCE HD can support it. Please help!
4- Am willing to pay more for CCD sensor range - is this helping?
5-Would like to shoot in 16:9 ratio and with lines of resolution of 720 and higher, this possible with FCE?
5- With the questions above...what camcorder would you recommend?
I know some of the camcorders that have these features are ranging from $900 to over $1,000 but would consider it a good investment for things I would like to do in the future.
I hope the information I've given is enough for you all to give your suggestions. Thank you again.

They are not bad - just unsuitable for FCE and all good editing programs.
There are several totally different kinds of Digital Video - many people mistakenly think all "digital" is the same.
DVD, Flash Memory or Hard Disk camcorders produce video in a version of the MPEG format.
FCE etc. only handles video in the DV or QT format which is totally different from MPEG.
One analogy would be to buy a diesel powered car and then find that all the filling stations in your area only had petrol (gasolene) pumps. Your car would be pretty useless !
The only way MPEG can be used in FCE is by converting it to DV or QT which wastes time or money and results in slightly reduced quality.
All these cameras are produced for the mass market (where the money is), to be used by people with no knowledge or interest in film-making or editing.

  • What Flash plug-ins do you recommend?

    Hello,
I have been using Red Giant's Text FX plug-in for Flash to
easily create text FX for a while now. It's a discontinued product,
however, and it won't work in Flash CS3.
What plug-ins do you recommend for Flash?
    I've downloaded an app called Text-Osterone. It's not a
plug-in, but is a standalone product that outputs Flash.
I've also found PJ Components, but I haven't checked it out
yet. It doesn't seem like they offer a demonstration version and I
don't know if I want to pay money before trying it.
    Thanks!

The dpi is not relevant, just the actual pixels. If you have Photoshop CS3 then create the project at 1440X1080 using 1.33 PAR just like your video.
If not, use 1920X1080 and Premiere Pro will deal with it.
You could make your title in After Effects and either use Dynamic Link to bring it into Premiere Pro, or export it as a Quicktime Animation with the alpha channel and use that in Premiere Pro.

  • Just got a MacBook, what wireless router do you recommend for me to buy

besides the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. Thanks!

I use and very highly recommend Netgear routers. I use their WGR614 in my mixed Mac/PC/Xbox/Wii network setup and it performs like a charm. It was easy to configure through their broswer configuration setup and does exactly what it is supposed to do - and it cost me all of $40 at Best Buy.

  • What USB wireless works with my 2009 Mac Pro

I have just moved to a new house and only have access to wirelss. What are my wirless connectivity options for my 2009 Mac Pro running OS 10.9.2?

that depends. click on the apple, then about this mac, then report, and see if you have a wireless card installed. If not,  there are some usb wifi options out there that will work with mac, from Amped, for example. Just plug 'em in, change your network over to Wifi from Ethernet, punch in the password, and you should be good to go
I presume you are talking about the desktop here, not the macbook pro, which is an entirely different critter.
    goodl luck to you

  • What brand of RAM do you recommend with this board?

    Hey guys!
I wanted to know if any of you guys could recommend RAM that would be good for this system.  I am running a custom water cooling kit so I am planning of pushing the processor to 4ghz+.  The problem I have right now is that I cant get the RAM to run past 410mhz, and thus it is limiting my processor FSB to 205.  Also I am pretty sure this ram is limiting my video card tremendously.  Also what speed would be suitable?  Could I go with a good ddr433 dual channel kit?  Or should I plunge to ddr500?  I tried searching these boards but its hard to find info about what people recommend about ram.  I was mainly hoping to learn from everyones experience.
As a side question, my video card is performing below average.  I have the PCI latency set to 64 and agp aperture size is at 128, are these settings good?
    Currently I am running:
    875p Neo LSR
    Prescott 3.4ghz
    Asus Ax800XT PE
256x2 DDR400 2-3-3-6 Geil Golden Dragon in dual channel
    Ultra X-Connect 500W PSU
    Thank you in advance!

I scrapped it all.  As long as you buy a good brand you'll be ok. Corsair is probably the best.  235x17=3995. So pc 4000 would cover you to 4.0 easy, provided you get there. Try to get the lowest latency ram you can afford, other than that just make sure its a good brand. Corsair, Ocz, G-skill and maybe Geil?.

    Edit*#4
Until you buy faster ram, you can set a divider to see how high the proc will go.

  • What AME export settings do you recommend for preview? CS4

I've got about 30 minutes with lots of graphics. I just want to make sure it flows well as a whole before exporting finals to H.264 and MPEG2-DVD. In other words, I want FAST!
    Thanks.

    Paul,
Sonicfire Pro has a media player embedded. This allows one to have both the Video and the Audio from the PrPro Project, so that they can play that, and make changes to the SmartSound music, i.e. Scoring.
As nothing really exists in PrPro, until one does an Export, there is not a way to get, say a Clip in the Source Monitor into Sonicfire. Now, let's take an example, where you have used the Source Monitor to Trim a Clip. You have an Instance of it on the Timeline, with those In & Out Points set. It could be alone, or somewhere between other Clips. As there are a few more steps with the latter, we'll choose that - the Instance of the Clip is between other Clips, but all you want to do is add music, from Sonicfire Pro/SmartSound to THAT Clip.
In PrPro, set the WAB (Work Area Bar) over that Clip, and then Export. For my SD Projects, I just use DV-AVI, and make sure that Recompress is unchecked.
Import that DV-AVI into Sonicfire Pro, and it will show up in the player.
Play that file, to get the feel, if you have not done so, in PrPro.
Select the SmartSound composition and drag it to the Sonicfire Pro Timeline.
If it's multi-track, you will have a ton of options on what you can do with that composition.
Adjust the Duration of the music to match the AV file.
Edit that music in Sonicfire Pro.
    Export as PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit.
Import that PCM/WAV into PrPro and position it on an Audio Track with the proper channel-count, that matches your Clip.
Throw away the DV-AVI "reference file," when you are satisfied.
There are several tutorials on the Sonicfire Pro - Scoring Edition, that might be useful in explaining how the above is done, plus all of the power available. If you have not seen them, I strongly suggest that you do, as they will give you a lot of ideas on using Sonicfire Pro.
Good luck, and hope that helps,
    Hunt

  • What Illy CS4 book would you recommend for the beginner to grow with?

    Hello All,
I am looking for a good illustrator cs4 book for the beginner to grow with.
I have read reviews on amazon but thought I might ask the pros.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The instructions that ship with the program: The Help menu.
I know it's boring, but if you want to learn a new program, the most expedient way is to work through the provided manual, cover to cover. Don't just read it, actually perform the operations it describes.
Third-party books almost universally involve these downsides:
    They are expensive.
They are incomplete. They try to walk a fence-edge between rank beginner and intermediate user; between being merely a too-wordy reiteration of the Help files and next-level techniques for the more experienced user. The reason is obvious: the goal is to sell to as wide a range of users as possible. The result is often unsatisfying: They can't possibly include everything in the Help files, so they leave gaps for the beginner. But they feel compelled to appeal to beginners, so the experienced user has to weed through a bunch of entry-level bulk, just to get to the "juicy stuff" he's interested in. He pay's 100% price for about 15% of the content.
The are inefficient. They are full of unnecssary verbiage attempting to be clever, cute, hip, friendly, and thereby supposedly more "approachable." Most fail miserably at this, and the result is you have to read through endless passages of such original content as "this will knock your socks off" and "this is awesome" when what you really need is "just the facts, ma'am." The Help files fall under the stylistic guidelines of technical documentation: They adhere to "just-the-facts, ma'am."
They are short-lived. They go quickly out-of-date, which is one of the reasons why they are too expensive: They have to make their money quickly after release.
I'm not saying don't buy any. I have a small fortune's-worth myself, all but a dozen or so of which I wish I had never bought. With the money I wasted on them (plus interest), I could buy a new Honda Fury. I'm just saying do the included documentation--however painful--first. And keep doing it for new features when new versions are released. That will get you there the quickest, because it will lay the necessary foundations of overall interface scheme and basic object principles. Then, when you have that understanding, look only for books that are targeted toward an at-least intermediate level user. That way, your money will be spent, but it will be better-invested.
