That depends on which OS your MacBook can support. The system requirements for Mountain Lion 10.8 are here...

Go to your Apple Menu > About this Mac and tell us your Processor and Memory specs, that way we'll know what you can do.

  • Iphoto 9 (mac) & iphoto 6 (macbook) issues sharing what version will work?

Both are Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 8.1.2 iphoto 9 on the mac and then 6.0.6 iphoto 6 on the macbook.
I cant share from mac to macbook but can share from macbook to mac. The mac in iphoto has a sharing folder on left hand side. On macbook I can only access sharing from HD and then it still does not work and does not accept the password ( even though username & password are correct)....any ideas on what version of iphoto I need to use for the macbook...do I need to purchase some newer software...I assume that it would update automatically...any input would be much appreciated have been searching apple website but not gained any extra info hence using this for the first time...may thanks!!

You need to have the same version on both machines - therefore purchase an iLife 09 disk if you can get one and update the v6.

  • What version of Expresscard is present in the mid-2011 MacBook Pro 17"?

    Hi,
Does anyone know what version of Expresscard is present in the mid-2011 MacBook Pro 17"??
I want to know if it uses the PCIe 1.0 or 2.0 interface.
I've tried searching, but this one hasn't been answered.
A call to Apple Care didn't get me anywhere (they didn't know).
Closest thing I've come to an answer is this post (see last answer).
However, it's a bit confusing since the poster talks about GT/s, not Gbit/s as stated on Wikipedia (se fact box on the right).
    Anyone...??
    /Binker

    No, it isn't.
Check the links in my post.
The first one is this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4138
    It states:
    ExpressCard/34 slot
Expand the capabilities of your MacBook Pro with standard 34mm ExpressCards. To eject an ExpressCard, push gently on it to activate the spring, and then remove it from the slot.

  • What versions of Macbook Pro do not support all trackpad gestures?

What versions of Macbook Pro don't support gestures for left and right scrolling on the desktop in MIssion Control.
I have several MBPs and to be honest, I can't remember what hardware supports these Lion features.
    Help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jim P.

Additional info: there are a small subset of 4,1 MBPs that have the multitouch trackpad.  I have one, purchased in late March 2008, just after Apple announced the feature was added to the MBP.  I can scroll left/right in MC.

Hi, I have been trying to update many things on my 2009 white macbook. Everytime I do it tells me I need a different version. I don't know what versions I need or even where to begin or if I need to purchase new hardware? It says my version is 10.5.8. I have tried downloading 10.6 but not sure what to do. Everyone else seems to be updating there's and mine is way behind however it still tells me I have no software updates...Any suggestions?

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was based on Power PC code and was written to be able to run on both Power PC and Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

but if all you need is to use internet explore and not play 3d games then
using bootcamp is overkill and overcomplex
use a free virtual machine such as virtualbox https://www.virtualbox.org/

Can I install the latest version 10.8.4 in 1,1 model?
If it is possible, what I have to do to get it done? And the price?

MacBookPro1,1 can only run Mac OS X 10.6.8, as it has got a 32-bit processor.
If you order replacement DVDs, Apple will send you DVDs with the original Mac OS X version that came with your Mac, in this case, Mac OS X 10.4.5.
If you decide to get replacement DVDs, Apple will only charge you for the delivery

  • What version is the aluminum macbook? g5?

what version is the Aluminum macbook? the new ones that is.
I check ebay for stuff once in a while and it says for g4, or powerbook etc?
I know there is G4? g5? whats this one.

The Aluminum MacBook was the first full MacBook without Firewire. Apple sold simultaneously the MacBook White until October 20, 2009 with Firewire, after which point, the new unibody MacBook once again had no Firewire. June 8, 2009, Apple dropped the MacBook Aluminum, and replaced it with a 13" MacBook Pro. The 13" MacBook Pro had both Firewire and SD port. However, with the 13" MacBook Pro release, also the 15" MacBook Pro came out, and it replaced the prior MacBook Pro that had Express/34, with one that only had a bootable SD slot. Only the 17" MacBook Pro now has Express/34. Apple's MacBook Air has never had Firewire, nor SD.
As others indicated all MacBooks are either Intel CoreDuo or Core2Duo.
The migration from PowerPC to Intel is discussed in more detail on my FAQ*:

  • My MacBook purchased in May 2009 has OSX version 10.5.8  What version should I purchase to upgrade?

My MacBook purchased in May 2009 has OSX version 10.5.8  What version should I purchase to upgrade?

    Start with Snow Leopard:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • What version of firefox should i use on my macbook pro 2011

I keep getting a message to update my computer to 3.6.16 and I think I did but the popup on my computer still says 3.6.13.  I also tried to download Firefox 4 from the Mozilla website.  I don't know what version I am really using now.  My computer is taking forever to change from one screen to another, so I'm pretty sure I screwed it up somehow.  Thanks for any help I can get.

Your choice what version. Standard wisdom is always use the latest  and therefore most secure.  Not all add-on's are ready to go for the latest versions however.
