What version of forms

I have been given an old machine with no documentation. I know that it has forms and reports and patches on it, but is there anyway of finding out which version?

You can look for version of Oracle Application Server in $ORACLE_HOME/config/ias.properties files.

actually I don't know the exact version number, but it was Patch5 where Forms6i was branched out from. The last Forms 6.0 patch was patch 7 and had the Forms version 6.0.5.35.3 in it.
However, patch 7 was where bot, 6i and 6.0 had the same level of functionality.

I currently have a client who is looking to move away from their existing Forms 4.5 character mode application. These are the options:
1) Forms 4.5 -> Forms 6i -> Forms 9i ( stop here ) or...
2) Forms 4.5 -> using JHeadstart migrate to a Java solution

1) Do you have to upgrade Forms 4.5 character mode to Forms 6i and then Forms 9i before migrating to Java, or can the migration be done directly from either Forms 4.5 or 6i ?
2) What version of Designer is also required ?

Jheadstart (JDG) only uses the designer repository as input and not forms. So if you have forms generated out of the designer repository, you can use the designer forms modules as jheadstart input. If you don't, you have to reverse engineer (capture) your forms into designer first.
2) What version of Designer is also required ?
You need designer 6i patch 4.2, see also http://otn.oracle.com/consulting/9iServices/install.html#compatibility

What versions of Reader can fill-in forms?

Hi,
I have Adobe Acrobat 9 and I am trying to create a short form. The recipients are not all computer savy and will have various versions of reader so I need this to be super simple.
I have been testing it and Reader 7 doesn't seem to be able to fill-in the form. I have not been able to find any documentation that states what versions of Reader can fillin forms to be returned.
I would also like to have the file emailed back as the filled form, but I understand I do not have to use "distribute forms".
Any help would be appreciated!

Actually, the first version of Reader that could take advantage of Reader-enabled documents is Reader 5.1. The problem is backwards compatibility for documents that have been enabled with Acrobat due to various changes since Reader Extensions (usage rights) was first introduced. And for the sake of completeness, versions of Acrobat prior to 8 could apply certain usage rights (e.g., commenting, typewriter), just not those that allow saving a filled-in form.

I worked on Forms4.5/Reports 2.5 and i am having good idea on the development side. After that i didn't worked on the forms side and didn't upgraded myself on this technology.
Can any body help me in knowing what are version which came from forms4.5 ?

when i am looking at the oracle site it is giving much on java side than this forms side. is oracle going to continue forms technology ?

this probably is teh wrong place for a new features tutorial, but the latest versions of Forms and Reports are 10g (Forms 9.0.4). Before that and between now and Forms 4.5, we had Forms9i (9.0.2), Forms 6i (6.0.8), Forms 6.0 (6.0.5)and Forms 5.0.
Similar for Reports except that there has been Reports 3.0 where forms had 5.0

Finally, no, Forms is not going away.

Web Services from Forms, what version?

Im getting rather confused on what version of J Developer we should be using to create our Web service stubs so we can consume web services in our version of Oracle Forms 10.1.2
I am currently running though the example on the Oracle How to so ill use the versions suggested there but for furure development should we be using the latest version of JDeveloper?

You can certainly use 10.1.3.x of JDev for building web services to call from forms 10.1.2. I have done this here:

Generally the thing you have to watch is to ensure the JDK version for the web service proxy project is the same as Forms (1.4). You also need to be careful on the web service type from which you are creating the proxy. (Jax-rpc, jax-ws etc)
It might be worth trying (but might have a few gotchas) using 10.1.3 to generate a proxy against an 11g web service - but you need to watch what version of the web services standard you are using as there have been a number of changes in this area.

I have a fillable PDF that is already created by an outside source that I need to be able to populate with an Excel file of data. What version of Adobe will allow me to identify the fillable field names and then merge the Excel data into the PDF to create thousands of unique filled PDFs?

How to tell what version of Acrobat or Reader was last used to save a PDF

How can I tell what version of Acrobat or Reader was last used to save a PDF file? My users are using fillable forms from grants.gov. We want them to use Adobe Reader 8.1.3 to fill these forms, but some accidentally use the Pro version of Acrobat. They need this to make PDFs from Word & other apps, but Pro will corrupt the fillable forms.
When I open a saved form in Reader 8.1.3 and click File > Properties it says Acrobat 7.x even though I know it was saved with 8.1.3.
Is there a way to know which version number and type (Reader or Pro) last saved a PDF?

But it won't tell you what was used last. It just gives the original information.
It also won't differentiate between Pro and Standard and of course won't mention Reader at all.

I am trying to use the link for web distribution for my pdf fillable document. I have the option to "Generate Submission-Enabled PDF Form" how do I get the option for "Web Form." Could it be that I don't have Adobe Form Plus? What version do I need to enable web form?

There are any number of programs that can create a PDF form. Adobe has Acrobat, LiveCycle Designer, LiveCycle ES, InDesign. Third party providers inlcude Open Office Org and Nitro PDF. It is even possible to add form fields in a PS file and have Distiller create the form. You might want to look at the Acrobat Users Community for tutorials and eSeminars about creating forms.
