  • Mac OS 9 -  iTunes for iPod mini doesnt work, what do??

last week i bought an iPod mini, but iTunes 4.7 which is on the iPod cd doesnt work (the iPod mini software also not),i think because my mac is too old.
so were can i get iTunes plus the iPod mini software which runs on my macintosh?

There is no version of iTunes for Mac OS 9 that will work with the iPod mini. The last version of iTunes for Mac OS 9 is version 2.04, and that will only work with first and second generation full-size iPods, plus third-generation full-size iPods which are running version 2.0x of the firmware. All third-generation iPods and iPod shuffles can be used as an external hard disk in the Finder. Mac OS 9's iPod updater will only work with first and second generation full-size iPods.

  • What version of iTunes for OSX.3.9?

    Hello all,
It's been a while since I posted here, but so nice to see familiar names like Strider, Ron, Duane, MrTotes etc (incidentally Strider, your web pages on how the get the best out of OS9 were excellent for me back in 2001/2).
My problem now is, I'm running OSX.3.9 and I've had an iTunes gift card for the last two years which is about to expire. I was hoping I'd have upgraded my computer by now but money is (always) an issue.
I'm using iTunes 4 with a 2nd gen iPod (first one with the scrolly wheel I think). I wanted to use the card and download a bunch of songs, but I think I need a newer version that can support the purchasing of tracks. This one seems to have had the functionality fall by the wayside.
If it's not possible to buy songs anymore in OSX.3.9 can I use my gift card with a friend's Windows machine, download the songs & transfer them via memory stick to my old Mac?
    1) The gift card has not been registered yet.
    2) I would probably need to make sure the tracks are DRM free before purchasing.
On a side note, I picked up two minty fresh G3 iMacs last year for £20. One was a Sage G3 450, the other a Snow G3 600. I was so happy

What version of iTunes for OSX.3.9?
can I use my gift card with a friend's Windows machine, download the songs & transfer them via memory stick to my old Mac?
Yes. Right-click the songs in iTunes and move them over as you would any file.

  • How to Upgrade from version 4.7 to version 4.9 for iPod Mini

    Hi all,
I need to upgrade from iTunes V4.7 to V4.9 for my Acura Music Link for my iPod Mini. I don't see any reason to go to the most recent version, as most of the features aren't supported by my player - correct?
    I found a file installer for V4.9 here: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm
Is this "safe" to use? Is there a procedure I should follow?
Sorry if its here but I searched and didn't find it.
    Thanks in advance.
    P4 - 2.4 Ghz   Windows XP

Its usually best to update to the most recent version of any program as there will be small bug fixes and such a new version will address and fix.
THe latest version of iTUnes is 6.0.5 and can be downloaded from apple.com And the latest iPod updater is version 06-28-2006 http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • ITunes won't let me select my own music for iPod Mini

Every time I connect my iPod Mini, iTunes generates the following message:
"The iPod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in iTunes music library. Would you like iTunes to automatically select a playlist for you?"
If I click the "Cancel" button, the iTunes closes my iPod mini connection. If I click "Yes", I have no control over what iTunes downloads and cannot erase and replace the songs it chooses for me.
I have already removed and downloaded the iTunes and iPod mini and Updater sofware onto my hard drive. What can I do to have more control over what iTunes puts onto my iMini???
    Help!!

Go into iPod preferences (while the iPod's attached) and choose "Update selected playlists" and you'll be able to pick the playlists you want on the iPod.
Or you could switch it to manual and drag the songs to the iPod icon . . .

  • What version of iTunes is best for X.3.8?

What's the best version of iTunes for X.3.8?
After a brief try of X.3.9 after getting a new hard disk, I downgraded back to OS X.3.8 to get back to Safari 1.2 and to get rid of iTunes 6.0.2/.3 which had low volume issues compared to iTunes 4.7. From what I see X.3.8 will only run up QT 6.5.2 and iTunes 6.x needs QT 7.0.3. It looks like you get Safari 1.3 with X.3.9 by default.
I'm sticking with X.3.8. I have 4.7.1 on CD and 6.0.1 as a dmg. I've tried searching for other versions but all links seem to lead to 6.0.3 now.
I didn't follow what was going on in iTunes between Dec '04 and now so I'm not up on bugs and other issues. Advice and info will be appreciated.

This link will give you a version history of iTunes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes/changelog
This one has older versions you can download, scroll down the page for Mac versions, the first few are for Windows: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm

  • What version of Itunes is the best one for m4a encoding?

What version of Itunes is the best one for m4a encoding?

In that all versions of iTunes support ripping or converting to .m4a (both AAC and Apple Lossless) and in that the latest version is likely to included bug fixes and optimisations, I would say the answer is always going to be the latest version.
An area where there maybe a need to consider using an older version is that older versions of Windows are no longer supported by the latest versions of iTunes. For example Windows 2000 is no longer supported but Windows XP and later still are.

  • Computer has different name than Itunes for Ipod Touch

I have an Ipod Touch 4th Generation 32gb. I have had no problems with it or with Itunes. My Mom came last Saturday to visit and she needed to charge her Ipod Touch so I hooked it to my computer where I always have a cord and charged it for about 45 minutes or so. I have no problem with my Ipod or with Itunes BUT when I go look at the device now on my computer, when it is connected to USB cord, it show "Marys Ipod" now instead of "Steves Ipod". In Itunes, it is still "Steves Ipod" and I can sync and all but I really want to get rid of "Marys Ipod" off my computer even though when I open it up, it is my ipod, just mislabed. I know because it has my pictures and her's is only 8gb. My Ipad2, is fine when I hook it up to the USB cord, It says "Steves Ipad" but when I hook my USB cord to my ipod touch, it still reads "Marys Ipod". Is this something I should be concerned about or is it not worth the hassle of trying to restore, etc? I have tried to change the name, but Windows won't allow. I do have Windows 7. I have also got the new update on Itunes and the new software(5.0) version.
I am stumped. I have googled this and have searched for over 3 hours today on how to fix this. Ready to bang my head against the wall. I have did a reboot on Ipod, I have restarted the computer. I have not reinstalled anything including Itunes.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I would sure appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

I just found the answer to this after hours of searching online. Make sure your iPod is hooked up to your computer & turned on.
Click on "Start" and in the search box type "regedit". This will display a program called "Registry Editor". Open it.
Click on the "Edit" tab and select "Find...". Type "Mary" in the search box and click "Find Next". It will bring up a list of everything that has "Mary" in it. (You may have to click on "Find next" under the "Edit" tab in order to find the associated items that have something to do with both "iPod" and "Mary".) What you need to pay attention to is not the NAME, but the DATA column. For me, the wrong iPod name was listed in 2 places in the data column. The actual names of those 2 items were "FriendlyName" and "Label".
Once you find the associated items that have to do with both the iPod and "Mary", right click on one of them. Select "Modify...". A box will open giving a "Value Name" box and a "Value Data" box. The "Value Data" box should say "Mary's iPod". All you have to do is change it to "Steve's iPod" and click "OK". Repeat the "Modify..." and renaming of the "Value Data" steps for every item that says something about "Mary's iPod".
Close the Registry Editor. Open "my computer" and see that it changed the name of your iPod back to "Steve's iPod".
Best Answer So far.....it really works...Thanks a million

  • Can someone help me with installing the latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium?

Latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium downloads just fine.  But, fails to install.
"Unblocked and gave all permissions."  Still, no go.
I see by reading the other posts on this forum that I am not alone.  Any help?
    Frustrated!

Ok...This was very odd.  I left the installation program, in what I considered a frozen state on screen.  After about 30 mins, to my surprise, It installed!  I'm not computer literate, so, I don't know what to say.  But, to just WAIT for it to respond!  Good Luck!

  • In what way is iTunes for 64-bit windows 64-bit?

I keep finding conflicting info on this topic.  There appears to be a version of iTunes for 64-bit Windows, but task manager shows itunes.exe as being 32-bit.
In what way is this installer 64-bit?  Does it install 64-bit drivers for iOS devices and iTunes, but the program is still 32-bit?

The itunes.exe process itself is 32-bit (on a 64-bit install). Most of the iTunes program files are also 32-bit.
The miniplayer is 64-bit, and there are 64-bit plugins for Outlook. (You'll see those items in the iTunes folder in your "Program files" rather than in the iTunes folder in your "Program files (x86)".)
The GEAR drivers itunes uses for burning will be the 64-bit versions on a 64-bit system.
The iPod service will be 64-bit on a 64-bit system.
Apple Mobile Device Support is 64-bit (so you'll have the 64-bit Apple Mobile Device Service, and usbaapl64.sys and netaapl64.sys rather than usbaapl.sys and netaapl.sys, on the 64-bit system.)
Some of the bonjour componentry on the 64-bit install will be 64-bit.
Most everything else is 32-bit (QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support).
(Apologies for inaccuracies ... it's been a wee while since I checked the noir-household 64-bit Vista box for locations. The precise details of what is 32-bit and 64-bit can change between versions. For example, one of the big changes between the itunes 8.x 64-bit versions and the itunes 9.x 64-bit versions was the iPod Service going 64-bit.)

  • Where can I download a new version of iTunes for my Mac?

Where can I download a newer version of iTunes for my PowerBook? Please help thank you!

Ummm I'm not really sure to be honest here,But let me give you some backround of what happened. Basically my sister took my iPod touch (3rd generation I believe it is) and restored and updated the condition of it and made it up to date. When I tried to plug it in my PowerBook the iTunes thing came up and it said "the iPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later" and yeah that's all I got for you.

  • Can I upgrade to the latest version of iTunes and iPod???

Over the past couple of months I have been reading horror stories of people who went from iTunes 6.- to 7 and after upgrading and proceeding to get the latest version of firmware for iPod their iPod has become a paperweight. Scrambled displays, backward text, etc. I am on a Mac system and have a 30 gig 5th generation iPod and have put off upgrading because I am afraid of losing my iPod. Can somebody tell me if it is safe to upgrade and if all the bugs have been ironed out? Secondly, can somebody tell me if it is possible to get the latest iPod firmware as a downloadable stand-alone installer? I still have a dial-up connection and cannot wait hours and tie up my line upgrading my iPod through iTunes. I would prefer to download the upgrades on a machine with a high-speed connection and burn them to CD and then install on my machine from that CD. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? Thanks so much for any input.

  • Where Do I Look to See What Version of iTunes I'm Running?

OK, probably a simple, simple answer (and perhaps a dopey question!) -- but where do I look to see what version of iTunes I'm running? I've looked in obvious places (on every tab in my itunes library, right clicked on itunes tab on desktop and checked properties). I actually have no clue as to what version I'm running.
Also, I'm debating about updating (uh, NO not to 7.7. or 7.7.1) but to an older version. Does anyone know what older version worked w/out all the 'bugs'? I've seen 7.6.something listed many times and folks saying that version worked great until they updated to 7.7. Did this version work ok? Thanks again.

"For the 'Registration' loop, I clicked the 'Never show message again' box."
Any way to conjur up this box? When I plug in my ipod, it just brings up the registration page. I click 'register later', and the page stays. I click 'never register' and the page stays. I click 'continue' and fill out information and click 'submit' and that last page just stays. It won't even let me cancel out of the page and just bring up my summary page. I'd gladly never see this message again but how do I do that?
"The only downside to downgrading to 7.6 is NOT having the Apps Store available in iTunes."
What is 'Apps Store'? Thanks again.
