What Version of JRE

It's probably the wrong thing to have done, but I've opened an account on this site in desperation, as no one else seems to know the correct solution.
I have the current version of both IE and Firefox, but my main browser is Firefox and my system is 64bit.
I am trying to access a newspaper sites' crossword page (Daily Mail Puzzles) and it seems the crossword needs Java JRE installed before it is displayed.
In IE, l've tried from JRE 6 onwards (both 32bit and 64bit) and all that is displayed is a black box.
In Firefox, l've again tried JRE 6 onwards (both 32bit and 64bit) but all that is displayed is a box saying it needs a plug-in to display.
Clicking on install, it then says no plug in is available?
The Daily Mail uses a third party supplier to display their crossword or so it seems.
In Firefox, l keep getting the following message -
Name: brandx/games/crossword/CrosswordApplet
Location: http..//puzzles_press_net
"Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running"
There are lots of suggestions if one "googles" this, but no one solution works.
Also, more and more people on that site are now having similar problems!
I'm wondering whether anyone here can throw any light as to what to do?
Thanks

if you're running a 64 bit browser, you need a 64 bit plugin.
If you're running a 32 bit browser, you need a 32 bit plugin.
If you have a 64 bit operating system you're probably going to get a 64 bit plugin installed by default. But Firefox at least tends to default to install a 32 bit version even on 64 bit operating systems.

  • What version of jre is the older style java look and feel?

I have two windos xp systems, one running the 1.5.0_05 JRE and one running the 1.4.2_08 JRE.
The system that has the more up to date version has a more aesthetically pleasing java (metal) LookAndFeel. The older version has dark gray buttons/backgrounds and has purple scrollbars. The newer version has a lighter gray background with light blue (and partially shaded) buttons, scrollbars, checkboxes, etc.
Does anyone know what version of the JRE made the move from the older style LookAndFeel to the newer one?
    Thanks!

There were only maintence releases between 1.4.2 and 1.5.0. So the answer is 1.4.2 (old) 1.5.0 (new).

  • How can you tell what version of JDK a class was compiled under

    Kind Folks,
I have a Java application purchased from a vendor that is certified to run under JDK/JRE 1.2xxx. I recently received some extensions to the application from the vendor's consulting arm but I am having problems with the extensions. I believe the extensions were compiled under JDK 1.3xxxx but I need tp prove it to the vendor. Is there a way I can verify what version of JDK a class file was compiled under?
    John Fowler

...version of JDK a class file was compiled under? Not sure that makes sense. The class files will run the same under both. The only difference you would see is if you got a class not found or a method not found exception. If the class/method does not exist in 1.2 but does exist in 1.3 then that is where they were compiled. Manually verifying that would take a lot of work. Running it, as long as you excercise all of the functionality, (and presuming your app is not eating exceptions/errors when it shouldn't) then you should get an exception telling you of the error.

  • Multiple version of JRE in company..How to manage? (newbie question)

    Greetings..this is a newbie question
We have 48 versions of JRE running in on XP IE6 in our company.
Some version beat up other JAVA applications.
    It's a mess.
How can anyone manage this many versions?
Can we consolidate down to a few versions?
I saw some posts on changing the JRE dynamically or perhaps using a wrapper with a product from "sourceforge".
    Are these viable?
    Thanks in advance

How can anyone manage this many versions?you don't, each computer should periodically upgrade (IMO) but you shouldn't care. if you do, tell your users to load the latest version

  • Latest version of JRE

    hello gurus,
I need to know what version of the JRE is compatible with the Portal.  There should be OSS notes about this, or in  any Portal installation guides.  here i want to know what is the latest version of JRE.
    could you please suggest me.
points would we awardable for good suggetions....
    many thanks in advance!
    sree.

Do you mean the actual JDK on the engine or in the browser client? For the engine 6.40/7.0 the JDK must be the most actual one from the 1.4 family (1.3 and 1.5 are not supported) Check SAP note 723909 for further information.

  • What version of Cisco software and firmware is supposed to be packaged with a new CISCO ASA5505-SEC-BUN-K9?

What version of ASA should be expected (8.2)?
    What version of ASDM (6.3)?
Will registration of this product give me rights to download the latest version of these software package directly from Cisco?
The box has an NB date: 11-MAR-14.  What does NB date mean?
I just bought this product and all the printed material and the CD are full of apparently dated material.  I tried to use the "Cisco ASM-IDM launcher Installer Information" from the CD and it is asking for the JRE to be downloaded from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads while I have the latest version already installed. What in the world?  This is a security product and it is demanding that a inherently insecure product be installed?
I also got a three pronged power cable that seems to be a standard for latin America or Europe. Can someone give me a heads up on this?

What version of ASA should be expected (8.2)?
On my last order, which was about 6 months ago, I got an ASA with version 9.1.  So I would assume that you would get atleast that version now if not a newer version.
    What version of ASDM (6.3)?
Again, I got ASDM version 7.1 with my last purchase, so a new order should receive the same if not newer.
Will registration of this product give me rights to download the latest version of these software package directly from Cisco?
No, you will need to have a support contract with Cisco in order to download newer versions of software. Product registration only gives you rights to download software that was shipped with the device.
The box has an NB date: 11-MAR-14.  What does NB date mean?
    Not sure what that is.

I think Richard is right.  Sounds like the box has been sitting on the shelf a while.  Perhaps ask the reseller to provide you with a new image release?
I also got a three pronged power cable that seems to be a standard for latin America or Europe. Can someone give me a heads up on this?
In all the Cisco purchases I have made I have always received a 3 prong cable along with 2 others (a 2 prong and another...different...3 prong cable).  I believe the devices are shipped in such a way that they do not need to be "customized" for each country. That way they can be shipped to whichever country and be good to go once they arrive.

  • Can't run my app with older version of jre anymore.  Help!

Java Web Start is supposed to allow applications to use older versions of Java JRE. My applet uses 1.6.0_31 because it doesn't work with 1.7. (Backward compatibility? Don't ask.)
When I first set it up a couple of weeks ago, it worked. Now, with JRE 1.7 officially released it does not. When I try to run it, I get the following message:
"This application would like to use an older version of Java (1.6.0_31) that is not installed on your system. We recommend running the application with the latest version o java on your computer. Then there are two buttons.

I'm the developer. And thank you for your prompt response. I have been given a work around so that the applet can use version 1.7. But that still doesn't explain what I am doing that makes Java fail to use the older version.
I put this code in my jnlp file on March 27th when I realized that my app didn't work with version 1.7. I tested it at that time and it worked. In the process I installed and uninstalled java 1.6.0_31 ( and 1.7) several times. Maybe something important got corrupted then.

  • Specific version of jre in .jnlp file and downloading from local server

    Hi,
I have couple of questions regarding the specific version of jre in Java WebStart.
    1) I have specified the jre version in .jnlp file as below.
    <resources>
    <j2se version="1.3.1_02"/>
    </resources>
When I saw the File/Preferences/Java of Java WebStart installation, there is an entry with the "Product Version" value as 1.3.1_02 as I installed jre also before launching my application. Still it complains as,
The application has requested a version of the Java 2 platform (JRE) that is currently not locally installed. Java Web Start was unable to automatically download and install the requested version. The JRE version must be installed manually.
Error Code 11 (11 Could not locate requested version) returned from server when accessing resource: (http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se, 1.3.1_02)
When it is there already, why it is trying to get from the Sun's site.
    2) I want Java WebStart to download the specified version of jre from my local server, I specified this in the following way,
    <resources os="Windows">
    <j2se version="1.3.1_02" href="http://host:9095/j2re-1_3_1_02-win.exe"/>
    </resource>
    I got the error saying,
Bad MIME type returned from server when accessing resource: (http://host/j2re-1_3_1_02-win.exe, 1.3.1_02) - application/octet-stream. where host is my server name. What I need to do here.
Can I have multiple resource tags one for each os.
    Help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sreedhar.

    Hi Sreedhar,
There are some other useful threads in this forum on this topic:
the "Automatically Installing the IBM JRE 1.2.2" thread has tips from somebody who's put together auto-download of JREs from his own web site:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=38&thread=71061
Also, the behavior of the j2se tag is discussed a little in the "Using a specific JRE" thread: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=38&thread=158075
The first step is to add an href attribute to your j2se tag. I was just experimenting with this this afternoon,
and it appears that unless that href is specified (even if it's the java.sun.com default autodl URL!) JWS will not properly check locally-installed 1.3.1 JREs. Once you include Sun's autodl URL as an href, JWS will at least properly enforce the product version among locally-installed JREs. Of course, Sun doesn't actually include 1.3.1 in its autodl section, so it won't download it for you, but it will enable checking of the JREs already installed.
The second step is downloading JREs from your own web site, which is more complicated and explained better by other messages in the forum. But basically, JWS is not simply looking for a .exe installer for a particular JRE. It hits the webserver with a query and expects the webserver to give it back an installer's JNLP file. Look at the referenced threads for more details.

  • Version of Jre installed under Windows

  • Next version of JRE

Anyone know how we find out when the next version of the JRE is going to come out? There's a Sun-acknowledged bug in 1.5.0_06 that affects my app and most of my app's users have auto updates turned on, so telling them to go back to *_05 isn't easy.  Getting the next version out with this bug fixed is a better option for me.  But anyone know how to find out when its due?

I hope JRE 1.1 is not latest version you just installed right?
What version do you have installed now?
Have you updated your browser? I don't think your JRE has anything to do with Java running in your browser.

  • How to change the default JRE when there are several version of JRE in Sys

How to change the default JRE when there are several version of JRE in System?
    i have installed j2sdk1.5.0 then installed j2ee1.4,then installed Weblogic6.1 which use jdk1.3
    Now the JRE is jdk1.3\bin
When run class that was compiled with jdk1.5,throw:
    java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError
How can i change the jre to 1.5?

There is a workaround to move from 1.5 version to the older 1.4 version. But this could be specific to the browser setting the JRE version.
    Excerpts from sun docs:
However, a user can still run older versions. To do so, launch the Java Plug-in Control Panel for the older version, then (re)select the browser in the Browser tab.
    Example:
Assume you are running on Microsoft Windows with Microsoft Internet Explorer, have first installed version 1.4.2, then version 5.0, and you want to run 1.4.2.
Go to the j2re1.4.2\bin directory where JRE 1.4.2 was installed. On a Windows default installation, this would be here: C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2\bin
Double-click the jpicpl32.exe file located there. It will launch the control panel for 1.4.2.
Select the Browser tab. Microsoft Internet Explorer might still appear to be set (checked). However, when 5.0 was installed, the registration of the 1.4.2 JRE with Internet Explorer was overwritten by the 5.0 JRE.
If Microsoft Internet Explorer is shown as checked, uncheck it and click Apply. You will see a confirmation dialog stating that browser settings have changed.
Check Microsoft Internet Explorer and click Apply. You should see a confirmation dialog.
Restart the browser. It should now use the 1.4.2 JRE for conventional APPLET tags.
    Details are here
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/jcp.html
My system (Windows XP) has the version 1.5_09 set as the default. However i just installed JRE 1.5_06 and would like to revert back to _06 as the default JRE..
Will update if i find more information
