What version of Oracle JDBC driver
I need to know the version of the Oracle JDBC driver to use. I am using JDK version1.2, Oracle version8.0.5.
Subha,
You should be able to use any driver that directly supports JDBC 2.0. A Type-4 database-specific driver is not necessary.
Openlink Software provides a Type-3 JDBC 2.0 Driver Suite. Try a free non-expiring limited seat license at http://www.openlinksw.com under Software Availability and Download - Multi-Tier Download.

That's all hidden from you by the java.sql code. All you do is register the driver and get a connection:
Class.forName("driverClassName");
Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection("url", "user", "pswd");You might have a "ClassNotFoundException" in your future. I'll bet the JDBC JARs aren't in your CLASSPATH. Make sure they're JARs, not zips. Oracle used to have everything in classes12.zip, but now they've gotten smart and put them in JARs for 9.2.0.1. - MOD -
Finding out version of Oracle JDBC Driver
Hi guys,
I am trying to optimise some Java code and understand that further optimisation running JDBC classes can be made by installing a recent Level4 driver. Unfortunately, I have had very little experience with JDBC Drivers.
Is there an easy way to find out which version of the driver I am running, and whether the driver class is a level 4 driver ? Apparently you can write a utility class and call getDriverVersion() on the Oracle driver meta data class to detect some of this information.
Also, is this information available on some Oracle or JDBC website so that I can tell the version ( perhaps based upon the modified date of the driver class file ).
Can anybody help me with this ?
Thanks,
SteveYou want to detect at runtime whether a driver from Oracle is a type 4 (no such thing as 'level'?) You could parse the connection string: oci = type 2, thin=type 4.

Greetings everyone,
I wonder if other folks are experiencing the same:
We have upgraded our JDBC driver to latest ojdbc6.jar (2,714,189 bytes) - 11.2.0.3
Everything looks great, except that on the server side it is reported as client version 11.2.0.2
JVM side:
===== Database info =====
DatabaseProductName: Oracle
DatabaseProductVersion: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options
DatabaseMajorVersion: 11
DatabaseMinorVersion: 2
===== Driver info =====
DriverName: Oracle JDBC driver
DriverVersion: 11.2.0.3.0
DriverMajorVersion: 11
DriverMinorVersion: 2
Database side:
select client_driver, client_version from v$session_connect_info
(null), 11.2.0.2.0
Is that expected behavior or the property is not updated between releases?

Thank you so much for your reply.
That was the exact information that I needed.
Could you also tell me from where can I get the information of future releases.

In Trouble with the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.5.0
Hi !
Without any problems i'm using the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.3.0 to access to the
Oracle database (Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production).
But exchanging the JDBC Driver 10.1.0.3.0 to 10.1.0.5.0 brings up the following problem:
the statement
con.prepareStatement(sql, resultSetType, resultSetConcurrency, resultSetHoldability)
(with parameters resultSetType = 1003, resultSetConcurrency = 1007, resultSetHoldability= 1)
returns null !
while using the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.3.0 the statement (with same parameters)
returns a correct PreparedStatement.
Every hint or idea is welcome.
Best regards,
ClausDuplicate post:
In Trouble with the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.5.0
Claus,
Pardon me if I am stating the obvious, but why don't you use the 10.2 JDBC driver with your 10.2 database? The driver is part of the database distribution. Otherwise, you can download the driver from the OTN Web site.
Good Luck,

If this is a type-4 JDBC driver, it could occur if the JDBC
driver is not in the system CLASSPATH.
If this is a type-2 JDBC driver, it may also indicate that
the Driver native layers(DBMS client lib or driver DLL)
have not been installed properly on your system

This is most likely caused by one of the following:
1. The native layer SO, SL, or DLL could not be found.
2. The file permissions on the native layer SO, SL, or DLL
have not been set properly.
3. The native layer SO, SL, or DLL exists, but is either

Most likely, the OCI libraries could not be loaded.
Before continuing down this path, is there any reason
why you want to use an OCI based Driver as opposed to the
all Java Oracle thin driver ?There is indeed a valid reason for my choice.
I am currently connecting to the Oracle "Rdb" 7.0 database (located on
VMS) - not Oracle Oracle.
The SQL Service software we're currently using is version 7.1. This
version works well with the OCI8 driver (when connecting to the
database from Windows NT). This version of SQL Service however does
NOT work for the THIN driver (unless we upgrade the SQL Service to
version 7.1.5.5 - which we're not prepared to do so because it is not
stable enough from our previous test/trials). SQLSRV Version 7.1.5.5
works for THIN driver but it will result in uncommitted
transactions/unresolved connection/stopping of listener issues and
there is a need to restart the service from time to time. Oracle has
since confirmed that this is a bug that they have yet to resolve...
So we have to stick to OCI8 (THICK) for the time being. I would really
appreciate it very much if you can tell me the various OCI libraries
that I need to load (in terms of WebLogic Server config file settings
etc..).
By the way I have already installed the Oracle 8 client software on
the NT server (where WebLogic Server is) and I have also set up the
relevant SID (using the Net8 Assistant) that points to the Oracle Rdb
database on the VMS. I have also tried using SQL*Plus to connect to
the database and I can connect properly to the database. But WebLogic
simply doesn't seem to load the software.

Oracle JDBC Driver 10.1.0.4.0 and IndexOutOfBounds-Exception
Hello all,
we´ve experienced a weird problem using the Oracle JDBC driver version 10.1.0.4.0. While executing SELECT statement we get an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds exception from the JDBC driver. Here´s the stacktrace:

We couldn´t find anything on the web on this error. We´re using Weblogic 8.1 SP4 with JDBC version. Does anyone have a hint or an idea what could be the problem here?
Thanks for any help in advance!

There is someting wrong in this environment
I donwloaded the _g version fo teh exact same driver and had weblogic use it so I could generate verbose logs
Here is a snippet fo teh oracle drivers verbose log file . If you notice the key parts
it seems like its spending 40 second to make the connection, goes into a setConnectionDuringExceptionHandling method and creates the connection
can someone shed light on what causes itto go into an exception state
This happens for each and every connection but only in one specific environment
we have other environments which seem towork fine with the exact same product versions except for this environment
Thank you for any guidance on troubleshooting this further

for the DBMS to respond, so yo may need a good DBA to see what the DBMS thinks is going
on at the time. I did hear of a case where the DBMS was doing some auditing, logging
some info during every login. This info was being written to an OS file which just happened
to be remote-mounted and would occasionally take 30 seconds, which caused connection
requests to timeout at the driver end.... WebLogic is just asking the driver for a connection
using your properties, so it's not involved directly with the problem.... -
Hello All,
I am writing this simple program which connects to Oracle DB ( 10.2 ). The Java version I have is 1.5.0_13 . I do have oracle client installed. When I run the below code ...I get error

Thanks in advance,
SamHello Paul,
Thanks for you suggestion. Based on it , I did add the exact jar file in the PATH environmental variable in XP.
Path=C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jar;C:\oraclexe\a
pp\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\bin;C:\Ora
cle\product\10.1.0\Client_1\bin;C:\Oracle\product\10.1.0\Client_1\jre\1.4.2\bin\
client;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_06\bin;Even after adding the specific jar file *("C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jar")* ..I am getting the exact same error. moreover, to verify this I also tried to import import oracle.jdbc.driver.*.....and now my code would not even complie and I get error *(c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_13\bin\OraThin.java:3: package oracle.jdbc.driver*
does not exist ) . I also rebooted my machine just to make sure ...that didnt work either. Also, I changed these jar to be first in the PATH varibale ..to avoid conflict with any later .jar's classes. The code is :
import java.io.*;
import java.sql.*;
import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
public class OraThin {
public static void main(String[] args) {
try {
System.out.println(System.getProperty ("java.class.path") );
Connection con=null;
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
con=DriverManager.getConnection(
"jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:15282:ServiceName",
"scott",
"tiger");
Statement s=con.createStatement();
s.execute("SELECT SYSDATE FROM DUAL");
s.close();
con.close();
} catch(Exception e){e.printStackTrace();}
}What am I missing here!! ?
Thanks again,
Sam -
I ran into an NPE when using Oracle thin client 11.1.0.6.0 (ojdbc6.jar) to connect to a 10g server. It is not easy to reproduce though. The following is the stack trace, any suggestions?

Receiving oracle.jdbc.driver error when trying to connect
Setup:

SQL Developer 3.2.20.09
Java platform 1.6.0_37
Oracle IDE 3.2.20.09.87
Hello, I'm going to start by saying I'm a rank amateur when it comes to using and understand SQL developer. My entire need for this program is to connect to a virt server at my office and test out my SQL queries against our tables. It's been working great for this purpose until yesterday when I received this error:
An error was encountered performing the requested operation:
oracle.jdbc.driver.T2CConnection.getLibraryVersionNumber()I
Vendor code 0
I did some searching and found a few references to this error but due to my inexperience I was unable to follow the resolutions and fix the error. This connection was working fine until yesterday afternoon which seemed odd. Based on my control panel, here is what I installed yesterday, I believe I installed both Java's after the error occurred seeing if they would alleviate the issue.
MySQL Administrator 1.1
Java SE Development Kit 6 Update 41 (64-bit)
MySQL Workbench 5.2 CE
Java 6 Update 41 (64-bit)
Could one of these be the root of the issue?
Thanks for the help and sorry for the lack of technical expertise, my need is very narrow and up until now this program has worked great for me.
-Brad

More likely to be that you are now using the wrong version of the oracle jdbc jar file.
Post the name and version of the JDBC jar file that you think you are using.
Search the pc for ALL such files.
Examine the environment variables (e.g. PATH) to see if they reference jdbc jars other than the ojdbc6 jar you should be using. -

Please help to suggest me. How should I do to let out this error?
Thanksmany people use the two interchangeably, though technically it can mean something different.
What you get back from a call to newInstance() is the same as what you'd get when using the new keyword and no constructor arguments, a reference to an instance of a class (there are other ways to dynamically create an instance using other constructors).
"Creating a class object" technically means loading the class which causes a Class instance (so an instance of the class Class) to be created for that particular class, making the class available to the JVM for instantiation of instances.
newInstance() and its sisters are useful for when the class to be instantiated is not known (or even doesn't exist) when compiling the class that needs to instantiate it.
This is of course the case with JDBC. The people creating the JVM can't know what driver classes will be out there at some point in the future (and if they did know and have access to all of them in the past it would still be foolish to have them all hardwired into the JVM). -
I am using oracle 10.2.0.1.0. I can able to connect the database using sqlplus. I am executing some ant task. While running the ant script I am getting the following exception.

they are not getting these kind of error. Only my
system and 2 more system is giving these problem.
All of us are using the same version of oracle
only.I said driver not database.

Additionally you might want to check your class path to verify that only what is required is in that.
You haven't put anything in the ext directory have you? -
ClassCastException: oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CCallableStatement
We are using OracleCallableStatement to retrieve Oracle object types.
oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement ocs = (oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement) con.prepareCall("{ call USER_PKG.DEQUEUE(?,?) }");
ocs.setString(1,userId);
ocs.registerOutParameter(2, oracle.jdbc.OracleTypes.STRUCT, "USER_TYPE");
ocs.execute();
We are getting the following exception
java.lang.ClassCastException: oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CCallableStatement cannot be
cast to oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement
Please advise.And what do you except from us?
You just pasted some of your code with not formatted text,you didn't say what you were talking about, you posted your question on the wrong section of this forum, you forgot to put the only one necessary line of code ( usually an error depend on the lines of code present before than the one throwing it, and the following ones shouldn't interest ).
Where does the con variable you use in the first line come from? How do you think you can get an answer if you don't say that!
Anyway if you just think about this, and if have some basic knowledge of Java, you can find the solution so easily.
One more important thing to say next time is the JDBC version you're using.

Hi,
I am writing a J2EE application which (in theory, at least)
connects to an Oracle 9i database.
I have written a simple Java test app utilising only the
java.sql package classes (e.g. Connection, ResultSet) to directly
connect to the database. As long as the classes12.zip is in the
CLASSPATH it works fine.
Now I have written an Enterprise application (SessionBean,
Remote and Home interface and Client) which I am attempting to
deploy via deploytool.
If I include just the client jar and EJB jar in the application
it deploys okay but when I run the application (using runclient)
it produces the following error:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/jdbc/OracleDriver
(It is nested within other error output but that is the core
issue).
However if I try to include the JAR libraries into the app
(classes12.jar and nls_charset.jar from $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib),
then I get the following output from deploytool when I hit the
"deploy" (or "redeploy") button:
Deployment error: invalid entry compressed size
(expected 14411 but got 14580 bytes)
Can someone please tell me what is going on???
How can I deploy the J2EE application including the Oracle
JDBC Driver???
My only other option at the moment is to place all the function-
-ality in the client and not use the J2EE framework.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

[email protected]OK Ben,
I admit I'm a bit confused. Let me see if I understand where you're
coming from.
You have written a J2EE application that includes a session bean,
correct? If so, your session bean needs to be deployed to an EJB
container. What container are you using? The Oracle 9i database
has an embedded EJB container which (theoretically) you can use.
However, as far as I know, Oracle recommends you use OC4J as the
EJB container. So again I ask, what EJB container are you using?
If, as you say, you are new to EJB, then I think you should
immediately start working wiht OC4J as your EJB container.
Did you look at the tutorial link I gave in my previous post? It
explains -- step by step -- how to create, deploy and run a J2EE
application using OC4J as the EJB container. It also has links to
introductory material for people without little knowledge of J2EE
and EJB.
I have 9iAS Enterprise Edition and 8.1.7.1.0 database server (and
OC4J) installed on my SUN machine. I cannot find any of the
utilities you mention -- "j2eeadmin","runclient" or "deploytool".
What Oracle software have you installed? What are the versions?
What platform are you using?
A J2EE application (according to the specification from SUN)
consists of modules. A module can either be a client module or an
EJB module. A client module can either be a java application client
or a web-based client (servlet or JSP). A J2EE application usually
contains one client module and one EJB module. A J2EE application
needs to be deployed to a J2EE container.
Hopefully the J2EE picture is becoming clearer. I think you need
to read some introductory material regarding J2EE if you intend
to become proficient at it.
I feel that you are under the impression that a J2EE application
is a glorified JDBC application. It isn't (as far as I'm aware).
Good Luck,
Avi.
