Snow Leopard is what i am currently using. But i guess it does need some clean up and maybe a clean install to see if it gets faster.
I believe 4gb is the limit for this model, although i've seen some with 6gb…

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Get an external hard drive on which to store some of your files after which you can
erase the data from your internal drive to free up space.
5. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
6. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
7. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located. -

Thanks for your reply--makes me not want to get involved with Mavericks, and I appreciate the heads-up. What I hadn't thought about is that by upgrading my OS I would also have to upgrade from my Adobe CS1. Since I'm retired from my art career, I'm reluctant to spend the dough on new CS; but I still like using PhotoShop and InDesign (and obviously don't care that they are outmoded). But I'll bet any newer Mac OS won't run my old software.

I have the usual ports; 2 USBs, Ethernet, as well as a couple small ports that I do not know what they are for... sorry . Thanks so much!Yes, it should be possible. I think every MacBook Pro ever sold has some kind of port for an external monitor. You would have to nail down which kind of port your MBP has and where on your MBP it is located.
Can you find the little "getting started" pamphlet, manual, or PDF that came with it? It should name the connectors.
My guess? If the only ports you have besides USB and Ethernet are smaller than those, you could have a Mini DisplayPort. -
IMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 12gb of RAM running very very slow.
My late 2010 iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 12gb of ram is running very slow. It takes a very long for the computer to boot with the desktop taking ages to fully load. Applications are also taking an unholy amount of time to load with the spinning wheel always appearing through out use, and they often crash or don't respond and close during use. I'm talking applications like Word taking 3 minutes to load and getting the spinning wheel when font size is tried to be changed and crashing and closing if a large volume of text is attempted to be pasted into a document.The computer is also failing to shut down properly just staying on a blue screen. I recently wiped and completed a fresh install however the issues came back.
As you can imagine after spending so much on the computer I'm not best pleased about these issue, I've spoken to the apple staff in my local store by they weren't very helpful and seemed to no little about computers and the so called "Genius" who I spoke to about my issue was a joke, repeating himself and talking utter rubbish, while I understand you need to look at a computer to get a real picture of an issue, some advice could of been provided. I haven't got time to take the computer to the store at the moment and get a technician to look a it, so I was wondering if anyone else had experienced these issues and knew what caused the fault, and that way if possible I can repair the issue myself.

Before I drop 5 bills of Logic 8, what kind of performance am I looking at with a Imac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs?
Your machine is a whole bunch faster than the G5's most of us use, and 2 gigs should be fine. The only way you'll get a benefit from more than 2 gigs of ram is if you use other programs alongside Logic, or if you use lots of large EXS samples. Additional ram beyond 2 gig will not get you greater track count, more Space Designers (or any other plugins besides EXS) or lower latency. It will not get more instances or sample sizes for third party plugs used as AU within Logic. If you run third party plugs as rewire or standalone - separate from Logic - they will benefit from additional ram.
I'm doing very well with a G5; additional drives and pci interface help alot. You should do even better with an Imac, although I don't know if it has a PCI slot. -

Ok, please try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.) -

I have a Macbook Air 2.13 GHz 6MB, 2 GB memory and I'm having trouble getting connected to wifi or internet. I've already checked the airport. I've also verified the connection on the router. I am still not successful in getting connected.
Delete all the existing wireless networks you have stored in the MBA under the network setup of the wireless card.
Power off the MBA and power on again and then rediscover the wireless..
Any luck??
If you still have issues.. more info.. what router are you using? How much wireless signal do you get? Can other devices connect and it is just the MBA that has trouble?? -

Thanks!The starting point is to call Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask to purchase a copy of Mac OS 10.6 "Snow Leopard." It will cost about US$20 plus shipping. When you receive it, install it and use Software update to get to OS10.6.8; the updates are free to that point.
Now you will have the App Store app in your Dock. You can use that to purchase Mac OS 10.8 "Mountain Lion," the lastest. According to the MacTracker database, your iMac--which is either a Mid-2007 or Early 2008--can support 10.8.
CAVEATS:
• your iMac is at or near the minimum level to suport 10.8; performance may not be stellar
• if you currently run any old PowerPC apps (like Office 2004), they will still work unders 10.6 but no higher. You will have to upgrade to newer versions to continue using them. Office 2008 runs on either PPC or the newer Intel Macs. Office 2011 runs only on Intel Macs. -

One of the main reasons I would purchase OS X Moutain Lion is for its AirPlay feature, in particular to stream Hulu from my iMac to my Apple TV 2. In reading some of the preliminary reviews of Moutain Lion, AirPlay is not supported on older MacBook Pro's. They claim that an Interl iMac with Core 2 Duo is all that is needed, as long as it has OS 10.6.8 installed. They say you don`t need the "Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor"
But I wonder about the RAM speed, the iMac 2.33Ghz uses DDR2 SDRAM, which I believe is rated at 667Mhz. Lion maybe installed but it might be problems running smoothly or not?
Did some quick checking and the iMacs apple is selling this year use 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
The only thing to do is to make sure you have a good back-up, Install your RAM and install Snow Leo, then wait a couple of hours and install Lion.
