What version of Windows 7 for bootcamp?

Hi, ive found many games I want to play are pc only, and I have the new 21.5 inch Imac. So I have turned to trying Bootcamp. So I was wondering what version of Windows 7 is best for bootcamp? And a link would help greatly too!
Thanks!

32-bit sees 3.5 GB RAM max.
64-bit Home sees 16 GB RAM max.
64-bit Pro sees 192 GB RAM max, and has an XP mode for older programs.
64-bit Pro may not be worth the extra cost for your situation.

  • Can I use an OEM version of windows for bootcamp?

Is windows 7 professional 64-bit (OEM) okay for bootcamp?

"Retail OEM" conflates the two different types of operating systems available for purchase. The proper term for a standalone, non-branded (ie Dell, Asus, etc) Windows disc is System Builder.
This is what you'd want to purchase, and it will work just fine for Boot Camp.

What version of Windows Office will work for my OS X 10.5.8, and also what is the most updated browser available for my system?

Sorry for my typo. Ofice 2008 will continue to run on Leopard and Leopard includes Safari 5.0.6. A G4 s an old machine and you will not get much speed when surfing the internet.
Leopard is no longer avilable from Apple, and costs around $200 on eBay or Amazon.

  • What version of windows is best to run on an Early 2008 IMac?

What version of Windows is best to run on an Early 2008 IMac? And should I use Boot Camp, Parallels, or VMWare? My IMac will be a secondary computer now that I got a new IMac. The Early 2008 IMac is an Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB memory, and 2.66 ghz processor speed. It is also running OSX 10.9.5 and Boot Camp is version 5.1.2.
I mostly want to do this so I can get rid of an old Windows machine that I just use to run Quicken on. I think I need to do this since Intuit does not support online bill pay for Apple versions of Quicken.
I am average with computers so any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

Bootcamp gives you access to underlying hardware on the iMac unlike VMware or Parallels. It does require reboot. Most VM engines let you take a Bootcamp Windows and run it as VM where a reboot can be avoided. With 2GB of memory, you should be able to Windows 7, but I would not recommend W8.

  • What version of windows would you most recommend using?

what version of windows would you most recommend using?
XP Home, XP Professional, Vista Home, Vista Business?
I see that XP takes up 1.5GB versus Vista's 20GB. XP uses 128MB Ram versus vista 512MB.
It would seem like XP would run faster and take up less space... but is it the best choice? Thanks for the suggestions.

  • What version of Windows is IE6/7 running on?

    Hello,
I have been testing out some HTML5/CSS3 code, which uses the Modernizr script to render the new HTML5 classes in older browsers. I've had some trouble with layout in IE6 and IE7 on my test site (http://www.bluedutch.com/cafe/index.html), so I prompted the user to install the Chrome Frame plug-in (http://code.google.com/chrome/chromeframe/) for IE <=7.
When viewing the site in these browsers, the user should be prompted to install the plugin. When I preview the site in BL in IE6/7, I get the window prompting to install the plugin, but the plugin window displays a message "We are sorry. Google Chrome Frame is only available for IE 6,7,8, and 9 on Windows 7, Vista, XP SP2 or greater."
I've uploaded a screenshot of the issue here: http://www.bluedutch.com/cafe/screenshot.jpg
I'm just curious what version of Windows IE is rendering the screenshots from, since the plugin doesn't seem to detect it in one of the aforementioned. Are IE 8 and 9, as well as the other Windows browsers running on the same Windows platform? Since rendering seems to be very platform dependent in Windows, I was curious about how this issue might be affecting website display.
    Thanks,
    Marie

    Thanks Mark!
That explains the Chrome plugin issue I am seeing.
I've commented out the get Chrome plugin for IE7 on the site, just so you can see the behavior in IE7.
If I understand Modernizr, the layout should look similar to IE8, but some of the new HTML5 tags, like <menu> aren't aligning properly, and some of the other divs are messed up. This could be due to font sizing in my CSS, and maybe some other unrecognized classes that IE7 just doesn't get, which I will also investigate further.
But if you do find out any info on your side that would be helpful, I'd really appreciate any thoughts.
The BrowserLab is very useful, by the way! I just discovered it yesterday after searching in vain for ways to render pages from my Mac on Windows browsers. Thanks for its implementation and support!

  • Remote way to find what version of windows a device is running

I am looking for a way to find what version of Windows a workstation is running remotely.  These workstations are on the same network, but not a part of the domain.  This means I have no credentials to access them.  Is there a way to to do
    this?

It doesn't matter.  Without credentials you cannot access the OS and the machines will not expose their identity if they are not enabled to do so.  I suspect the manufacturers have done their job abnd have locked down the machines.  This is
probably why they are not listed in DNS.  Any connections are hard wired into the servicing systems.
This is normal for medical machines.  We do not want people who are not qualified to have any access at all.  If someone asked you to do this then they are probably having a little joke on you.  HIPAA and other regulations require that al
devices that might have any patient identifying data be locked down.
The servicing systems will have to information you want although many devices are "upload only" which means they can connect to and upload data and images to another system but they cannot be connected to or remotely managed.
As I posted above.  You will have to contact the owners of the machines to find out if they are managed.
There are RPC probing tools that can read back OS data but it is likely that these machines are firewalled against that.  Try to telnet to port 445 to see if it responds. If it does one of the third party tools can probe it for more information.
This has pretty good discovery software.  If GFI can't do it it can't be done.

  • What version of windows do I need to download onto my mac?

Hello. I have a macbook pro OSX 10.7.5.
I am looking to get windows on my mac, but am unsure what version of windows I need/ should use... I just want it for a handful of programs and games that I can't run on my mac, so it doesn't need to be anything top of the line... Any ideas? Thanks!

It depends on what model of Mac you have; review this article to find out which versions of Windows you can run on your machine: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634

  • Which version of windows for parallels desktop

I have resisted for many years, but it looks like I am going to have to partition a mac mini to run parallels desktop so that my medical office can run Medicare Remit Easy Print (Windows only) software in my all Mac office.
What is the cheapest version of Windows that will work for this?
    Thanks.

Check with the provider/developer of Medicare Remit Easy to see what version of Windows is required.
Also, you said you had to partition a "mac" to run Parallels. You do not partition to run Parallels. You install Parallels the install Windows in Parallels.

  • What version is right for me?

    Dear FCP Users
I've got 100 gbs worth of footage from a Panasonic 101, and I want to put it together into a small film.
I am familar with Final Cut Pro 9 having used it whilst working as a logger. I'm wondering what version is right for me, I could try and find a version of a older cut pro version or I could just buy FCPx.
    I'm only looking to,
    Log footage (Convert to pro-res)
    Cut it in the timeline
    Use Liveword
    Grade it (using magicbullet filter)
    Record and edit audio
Burn it to DVD and setup for web format
    I'm using a,
      Model Name:    iMac
Processor Name:    Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:    2 GHz
      Memory:    1 GB
Is it even fast enough to run FCP?
How different is FCPx in its usage compared to other versions of FCP?
Cheers, lots of questions, but I'm sure you can help!

Tell us about FCP 9.  Is it more like FCP 7 or FCP X?
My bad, meant final cut 7. Got confused due to reading a thread about FCPx being the equiv of FCP10, so being non the wiser, when I was told I was using the latest version I assume that it would be be FCP9.

I am a little concerned because it says: "Important: Windows 8.1 Pro full version is for Windows 7 users only."

    Hi ctwitchell,
This forum is discussing about Windows Forms developing like Form design and Form control, your issue is more related with installing Windows 8.1. I will recommend you post your issue in the link below:

  • Which version of windows for new 09 white macbook?

    Hi all-
I just bought the new 09- 13" white macbook. My wife needs some really basic MS office stuff- just word and excel- for her work so we're looking at buying some version of windows or office or something. I know with Bootcamp we can use windows, but I only want/need the most stripped down version I can get away with and still have word and excel.
What should I buy? I see Windows XP for under $100. Office for mac is more expensive. Again- just really need word and excel, so any opinions?
    Thanks!
    -Danny

For my 2 cents, Office for Mac is the "pits". Most of the reviews give the program high ratings, but my rant with the program is that the "learning curve" is more than I want deal with. I bought the program and every time I open it up, I have to hunt for menu items that I can find in a flash with the Windows version. The Word program is not as bad as the Excel program (which I find almost unusable). If you're going this route, I would strongly advise checking it out before shelling out cash. The Excel program definitely ***** IF you're transferring files back and forth from Windows.
After my experience, I went with Parallels 4.0 (virtual machine) and loaded Vista Home Premium. It runs fine, but I probably should have gone with XP. I'm running my '03 Office there and it works fine.
If you're willing to take on this learning curve with Windows for Mac, that's probably one of the cheapest ways to go. I think the Home version is around $75.
