What version of windows do I need to download onto my mac?

Hello. I have a macbook pro OSX 10.7.5.
I am looking to get windows on my mac, but am unsure what version of windows I need/ should use... I just want it for a handful of programs and games that I can't run on my mac, so it doesn't need to be anything top of the line... Any ideas? Thanks!

It depends on what model of Mac you have; review this article to find out which versions of Windows you can run on your machine: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634

I have a Mac Pro running 10.7.5. What version of Safari can I download and run on this computer?

The latest one available to you in Software Update. Probably Safari 6.1.6.

  • What version of Java do I need? I am running Mac OSX 10.6.3.

What version of Java do I need? I am running Mac OSX 10.6.3 on a MacPro 8 Core. I have downloaded Java Updates 5, 6 and 12 but they won't install. Can anyone offer suggestions?
    Many thanks, Harry.

Disable Java (not Javascript) in all your web browsers preferences, that's the attack vector, via java web pages applets.
There is also Java 6 on OS X (10.6) itself already (comes installed) via the Java Preferences in Applications/Utilities folder, leave this on for Java based programs your using.
10.6 can't use Java 7 and Oracle is dropping support for Java 6 this month.
Since your not going to use Java 6 online, then your Java programs should work as long as you don't update.
Don't use Safari online as it hasn't been updated for 10.6 (10.7+ has Safari 6) use Firefox as it does get updates.

What version of Java do I need to download for Mac OS 10.5.8?

Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:

  • What version of windows is best to run on an Early 2008 IMac?

What version of Windows is best to run on an Early 2008 IMac? And should I use Boot Camp, Parallels, or VMWare? My IMac will be a secondary computer now that I got a new IMac. The Early 2008 IMac is an Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB memory, and 2.66 ghz processor speed. It is also running OSX 10.9.5 and Boot Camp is version 5.1.2.
I mostly want to do this so I can get rid of an old Windows machine that I just use to run Quicken on. I think I need to do this since Intuit does not support online bill pay for Apple versions of Quicken.
I am average with computers so any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rocco

Bootcamp gives you access to underlying hardware on the iMac unlike VMware or Parallels. It does require reboot. Most VM engines let you take a Bootcamp Windows and run it as VM where a reboot can be avoided. With 2GB of memory, you should be able to Windows 7, but I would not recommend W8.
You may also want to look at - Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

  • What version of W7 do I need for bootcamp?

I have decided to bootcamp windows 7 on my 15" MBP retina purchased in JAN13 to run a few programs I have. I hate to do this but seems to be my only options if I want to run them. I moved to Apple to unchain myself from the windows operating system.
    My question is this.......
I have never built a computer, done a fresh install of an operating system or bootcamped before. What version of windows 7 do I need? I look them up online and theres several ranging $99 to $300.
I know there are "upgrade" versions of windows and these will not work for bootcamp so I want to avoid a miss purchase. I can not easly return anything I buy. I am in the military and currently deployed so I cant just run to the local electronics store to return them .
I am also in a location where downloading programs the size of windows 7 would take 3 days, so that options out as well. I need to purchase the CD's and have them sent to me.
Will this verion of windows work to boot camp
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack
Thank you in advance for your help, sincerly
    Ken

    one last question.
What would you recommend bootcamp or run parallel's program?
    "Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac"
What is the difference? (kinda know the difference)
    And Why?
    (i guess thats 3 rolled into 1)
Sorry for the repeat questions. just want to make sure I do this right the first time........love my MBP dont want to mess it up.

  • Which version of Windows Server 2012 needs to be ordered so that I can downgrade to Windows Server 2008 64bit Standard SP2

    Dears in Microsoft,
We need to have Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 64bit to be installed and due to the fact it is no more available in Microsoft.
I am going to order Windows 2012 with 16 CAL in order to downgrade it to Windows 2008 Standard SP2 64bit. My question is:
    1. Which version of Windows Server 2012 needs to be ordered so that I can downgrade to Windows Server 2008 64bit Standard SP2?
    2. what else required in terms of product key, media, license...etc?
    Appreciate your kind supports.
    thanks and best regards

Any licensing questions are always best addressed by a trained Microsoft licensing specialist.  You can find whom to call by looking at www.microsoft.com/licensing.
One of the built-in rights of a Windows Server license is the right to run earlier versions of the operating system.  So if you purchase either Standard or Datacenter, you can run 2008 Standard.
However, that does not provide the media or activation codes for earlier versions of the operating sytem.  You have to obtain those via other channels.  You should most likely contact a Microsoft reseller and talk to them.  They will
most likely have a trained licensing specialist on hand to help answer your questions, and they should also be able to provide media for earlier distributions (for a slight fee).

  • What version of Windows 7 for bootcamp?

Hi, ive found many games I want to play are pc only, and I have the new 21.5 inch Imac. So I have turned to trying Bootcamp. So I was wondering what version of Windows 7 is best for bootcamp? And a link would help greatly too!
    Thanks!

32-bit sees 3.5 GB RAM max.
64-bit Home sees 16 GB RAM max.
64-bit Pro sees 192 GB RAM max, and has an XP mode for older programs.
64-bit Pro may not be worth the extra cost for your situation.

  • What version of Windows is IE6/7 running on?

    Hello,
I have been testing out some HTML5/CSS3 code, which uses the Modernizr script to render the new HTML5 classes in older browsers. I've had some trouble with layout in IE6 and IE7 on my test site (http://www.bluedutch.com/cafe/index.html), so I prompted the user to install the Chrome Frame plug-in (http://code.google.com/chrome/chromeframe/) for IE <=7.
When viewing the site in these browsers, the user should be prompted to install the plugin. When I preview the site in BL in IE6/7, I get the window prompting to install the plugin, but the plugin window displays a message "We are sorry. Google Chrome Frame is only available for IE 6,7,8, and 9 on Windows 7, Vista, XP SP2 or greater."
I've uploaded a screenshot of the issue here: http://www.bluedutch.com/cafe/screenshot.jpg
I'm just curious what version of Windows IE is rendering the screenshots from, since the plugin doesn't seem to detect it in one of the aforementioned. Are IE 8 and 9, as well as the other Windows browsers running on the same Windows platform? Since rendering seems to be very platform dependent in Windows, I was curious about how this issue might be affecting website display.
    Thanks,
    Marie

    Thanks Mark!
That explains the Chrome plugin issue I am seeing.
I've commented out the get Chrome plugin for IE7 on the site, just so you can see the behavior in IE7.
If I understand Modernizr, the layout should look similar to IE8, but some of the new HTML5 tags, like <menu> aren't aligning properly, and some of the other divs are messed up. This could be due to font sizing in my CSS, and maybe some other unrecognized classes that IE7 just doesn't get, which I will also investigate further.
But if you do find out any info on your side that would be helpful, I'd really appreciate any thoughts.
The BrowserLab is very useful, by the way! I just discovered it yesterday after searching in vain for ways to render pages from my Mac on Windows browsers. Thanks for its implementation and support!

  • What version of Safari do I need for Gmail?

What version of Safari do I need for Gmail? It says my current version (5.1.10) is outdated.

Any, but if you continue to use an unsupported version, many of Gmail’s features will eventually disappear. Lion and newer contain supported versions of Safari; alternatively, you can switch browsers.

What version of Windows Office will work for my OS X 10.5.8, and also what is the most updated browser available for my system?

Sorry for my typo. Ofice 2008 will continue to run on Leopard and Leopard includes Safari 5.0.6. A G4 s an old machine and you will not get much speed when surfing the internet.
Leopard is no longer avilable from Apple, and costs around $200 on eBay or Amazon.

  • What version of abobe do i need?

What version of adobe do i need to have in order to be able to delete pages once a file in pdf?

    Hi Joanna,
Acrobat Standard can do all the basic editing on a PDF. Acrobat Professional can do everything that Acrobat Standard does, plus it can do a bunch of other functions, few of them is mentioned below:
Convert PDF files to Microsoft PowerPoint files and update text, tables, objects, and master layouts with ease
Insert audio, Adobe Flash® Player compatible video, and interactive media for direct playback in Adobe Reader
Compare and highlight the differences between two versions of a PDF
Permanently delete sensitive text and illustrations with redaction tools
The comparison matrix is already shared with you (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/product-comparison.html), which contains the detailed product comparison.
However, it depends on how you want to use the product, if you just want to delete pages from a PDF file, you can use Acrobat Standard for that.
Please let me know what more you wish to do with the PDF files using Adobe Acrobat, and then I suggest you which Acrobat (Standard or Pro) you should purchase.

  • What version of Adobe do I need?

What version of Adobe do I need to save fillable forms with the information remaining intact?

The fillable pdf file are set to either allow u to save the data you enter back to the pdf or it does not.  it doesnt matter which pdf reader you use.  The only way for u to save the fillable infor is if you open it under acrobat, or if you change the setting under acrobat which allows you to save the file with filled data.
To change the setting of the pdf so the fillable can be save under pdf reader is open it with acrobat and click save-as->reader extended pdf->enable additional features...

  • What version of windows would you most recommend using?

what version of windows would you most recommend using?
XP Home, XP Professional, Vista Home, Vista Business?
I see that XP takes up 1.5GB versus Vista's 20GB. XP uses 128MB Ram versus vista 512MB.
It would seem like XP would run faster and take up less space... but is it the best choice? Thanks for the suggestions.
