What versions should I DOWNgrade to?

So I see that Apple decided, with the new version of OS X and iTunes that I installed, that note files can't be simply copied to the iPod anymore, the way they used to. Instead, you have to have an internet connection on your Mac and go through the Mail program.
I'm kind of a Luddite. I don't let the internet touch my personal computer at all. My only net connection is through public computers and a USB thumbdrive. And since I loathe cell phones and refuse to own one, I need note files on my iPod for all sorts of handy reference.
The only solution I can see is to go back to an older version of iTunes and perhaps the iPod driver. Can anyone (who KNOWS what they're talking about) please tell me what versions of that software I should download?

OK, here's why you shouldn't edit at 24 (=23.98).
You can change the 30fps footage to 29.97 by simply conforming the frame rate of the clip, as others have pointed out--in other words, slowing it down by .1%. Each frame will remain exactly as it was recorded, it will just be played for 1/29.97 of a second instead of 1/30.
As others have pointed out, this will require you to slow down any synched audio by .1% as well. But there will be no quality hit to your footage. Yes, it will have to be compressed to ProRes, but that's it.
However, if you use Compressor to change the frame rate to 23.98, it can't simply drop one out of every five frames, and it can't just play each frame for 1/23.98 of a second, because that will be noticeable. It will have to invent frames that don't currently exist, and this will involve a significant quality hit. Things may look soft; the motion may look funky.
I guess what I'm saying is that, let's be honest, doing a film transfer from 30p is not going to look good. Doing a film transfer from video is already a big quality hit, and changing the frame rate is going to make that worse. If you really wanted to keep 35mm as a viable option, you should have shot film or at least an HD format that allows for 24p.
That's not to say you don't have lots of distribution options. But you shouldn't compromise the quality of your 30p master, which could be used for TV or DVD distribution, in favor of a potential 35mm transfer that (a) probably won't happen and (b) will not look good if it does.

The  wording is confusing. I just tried one of the DLs and it is working. Whether it will actually install now, I have no idea. If the activation servers have been disabled (because of a technical issue), probably not. Whether this is only temporary, I have no idea. I would think Adobe would just withdraw the entire page if they wanted. From the time this first appeared a few weeks ago until now I know it was working and could be installed using the provided serial #s. There was nothing about needing to actually have purchased it originally.
    Ginger:
I downloaded CS2 from the Adobe site BEFORE this recent notice was posted and it is the only version that I have and use.
The new notice is VERY confusing, because if you were a prior purchaser of it originally, why would you need their newly supplied serial number (which is what I use since I was NOT a prior purchaser. But again, when I downloaded and installed CS2 there was no such notice).
I suggest that you see if it downloads, installs and works with that serial number, as free is always better than not!   (especially since it is known that iMac G5's are prone to hardware failure from bad capacitors! I had many of them...)

I don't know how strict the OS requirements are. I do know that my old G5 iMac, even upgraded to Leopard, was able to run CS2. In fact, using Rosetta, CS2 still runs on my Snow Leopard.
As you can see from the image, CS2 is running in my Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) environment in Parallels concurrently with Lion.

My MacBook purchased in May 2009 has OSX version 10.5.8  What version should I purchase to upgrade?

    Start with Snow Leopard:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • I have version 3.6.23 on a desktip PC. When I "check for updates", I get a message that there are no updates available. What version should I have and how do I get it?

I tried to use a shmetsy.com tool for Etsy. I couldn't use it because of my version of Firefox - 3.6.23
I went to "About Mozilla Firefox" to check for updates and got the message "There are no updates available"

I don't know what versions of Firefox work with Shmetsy. Do they have a system requirements page? It's not in the very short FAQ...
You have the latest in the 3.6 line.
If you want Firefox 7, go to http://www.mozilla.org/firefox to get the installer.
Normally, major upgrades go without a hitch, but just in case, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings to cover yourself in the rare case that something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

  • #1. What version should I get?

    #1 question:
Ok I've got Photoshop CS2 and Tiger 10.4.11 operating system on an 2.16ghz Intel Mac, with 4gb of ram.  Working mostly with Nikon RAW files
I can get CS3 Upgrade from a friend pretty cheap.  Should I go with that or spend nearly $150 more for CS4 or wait for CS5?
Should I have Leopard and CS4?
My CS2 on my Intel Mac is super slow.  What is my best option for my Intel Mac running 10.4.11?

No he deactivated / uninstalled Photoshop.   Adobe said he needs to submit a letter of transfer and put it in my name.   He bought the Master Suite.
So even though the CS3 upgrade I can get would be at a 75% discount over a CS4 upgrade.  Would it really be worth it to pay that much more  for CS4 over CS3 in my case?
Also, I think I read that there is only a 3 versions upgrade policy.  Does Adobe release a new version every year?  So every three years I'll have to buy an upgrade or risk having to pay full price again?
Also you say the new Snow Leopard is only $29.  But that deal is only for those with the original Leopard.  I have Tiger 10.4.11.  I think that the new Snow Leopard will be much higher price for me.  The MiniMac I just got my 9yo son to use is running current Leopard though.  I'm happy with 10.4.11 on my Mac.

  • What version should I upgrade to?

I am currently using Premiere RT 5.1.  I know, I know, it's ancient.  Before anyone gets on my case, I did do this as a career once.  I went to film school, interned and learned how to edit using a Matrox computer and Premiere software.  After I left that job, I changed my direction, settled down and became a full-time mom.  I have dabbled in video projects since once or twice a year to make extra money.  I bought a used system from a former client that's 10 years old.  At this point in our lives, money for groceries is scarce enough, so I'm not anywhere near purchasing the newest version of Premiere.  But I can't keep going on like this.  I've spent 3 full days trying to edit together a simple video of my son's preschool Christmas program.  It should have taken me 3 hours.  I'm now switching to a cheap consumer software just to be able to finish it.
My question is this:  Should I purchase the new Premiere Elements or an older version of Pro on ebay.  The little bit of money that I should make on DVD's from the other parents should be able to give me that choice.  I hate to go down to a consumer version of editing, but I assume having Premiere Elements is still eons better than 5.1.  Is there someone that has used all of the above and can tell me what I'll be losing if I go with Elements?  My 10 year old editing computer is currently running on Windows 2000, and has many quirks (like sometimes not turning on).  But I can usually deal through those.  For little projects, I like using my laptop, so I can watch my kids.  I'm on Vista with it (a limited, cheap laptop).  I don't think I would mind keeping 5.1 on the edit computer, since the whole system is ancient anyway.  But the laptop needs something newer.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative to using a big soundboard?  Again, I can't afford a new soundboard.  But is there some sort of 2-4 input cheap version just to be able to hook up my few components?  I would like to have some brand/model names to look for used on ebay.  I believe my soundboard has officially moved to the paperweight category.  Is there anyone that recycles these?
    Thank you for your help!

I've used both PrPro (now up to 2.0), and PrE 4. I use a laptop, but it's built for NLE and Photoshop work. For final color and gamma correction, I still take images, and video to my workstation.
One caveat for a new laptop: the more physical HDD's, that you can get, the better. In my Sager (really an extreme gaming laptop, configured for NLE work), I have 3x 200GB SATA II's, and not many laptop vendors offer more than one HDD. Two would be the absolute minimum, and three would be even better. Because I transfer Projects between the laptop and the workstation, I use FW-800 external HDD's, with all Project, media, Scratch Disks, etc., on those. Each has a unique drive letter assigned on both the OS of the laptop and the workstation, so that Z:\ is always Z:\ on all computers.
Now, back to the two programs: I really like PrPro, and find the "big button" approach of PrE to not be my thing. Still, I use it for small Projects. It offers limited DVD-Video authoring, but I always use Adobe EncoreDVD 2.0 (my version), and note that Encore is now bundled with PrPro.
Since you are beyond the upgrade path, on Premiere, you are looking at a big price difference, unfortunately.
I've also followed the trials and tribulations of PrE 8, to which John alludes. PrE 7 seemed much more stable, but that is just from reading, as I have used neither. It seems that PrE 8 requires much more power, than does PrE 7.
I also second John's comments on eBay. It seems that almost all copies of Adobe programs there are pirated copies. Some will run, partially, but usually not without issues. They also cannot be registered, or Activated (in the case of PrPro). Be very wary, and demand that any seller provide you with the full official transfer of license paperwork from Adobe. Adobe makes it very easy to do, with legit software. Demand that paperwork, and then verify with Adobe. Most sellers will put you off, and make excuses for why there is no transfer paperwork. This is usually done by FAX, so there is NO reason for them to not have it. Also, with PrPro, there is no OEM software, and most pirates will claim that is what they are selling.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What version should I see in help- about for most recent?

I just did a check for updates and installed a bunch of new things and this is what it says now 1.1.2.25 main-25-79. Why doesnt it say 1.1.3.27.66? I click check for updates and there is nothing to upgrade to?

To see the actual version installed, select Help -> About but ignore the details displayed on the About tab (they are from the last full install you did - I get "Version 1.1.2.25") - instead select the Extensions tab. Scroll down until you find the "extension" called "Oracle SQL Developer" and the version you have installed will be displayed in the version column (I get "1.1.3.27.66").

  • What version should the GW 2012 SP2 C1 snapins show?

    I just updated from GW 2012 Sp1 to Sp2.
All went OK, but I was thrown off by the version of the C1 snapins.
After installing Sp2, I launched C1 and found that the snapins displayed "2012 SP1"
I thought that something must have gone wrong with the admin install, so I installed that component again from GW's ./install but it still didn't help..
I eventually broke C1, and every time I tried to run it with the GW snapins I received the dreaded java errors during snapin initialisation. The only way I could get C1 working again with GW snapins was to remove NOVLc1Linuxjre (rpm -e), NOVLc1 (c1-uninstall.sh), and novell-groupwise-admin-12.0.2-108211 (rpm -e), then reinstall them in this order:
    1. NOVLc1Linuxjre-1.5.0-11
    2. NOVLc1-1.3.6-1
    3. GW2012-ISO/admin/novell-groupwise-admin-12.0.2-108211.i586.rpm
My issue most certainly was related to the jre version, which needs to the correct one before installing C1.
But still C1 displays the GW 2012 snapins as "2012 SP1", and another 12.0.2 server shows the same; so is there no update to the snapins for version 12.0.2?

  • Final Cut Express (What Version should i purchase?)

Sorry but i am a little confused. I see that there is a Final Cut Express and Final Cut Express HD what's the difference? I just need to do a little video editing at the lowest cost possible. With either of these versions do i need a certain graphics card or hardware to run one of these? and also what's the latest version out?
I already got my videos on the computer in mpeg format, will i be able to load them into Final Cut Express or will i have to convert them?
    Thank you

FCE HD v3.5 is the current version. That's the version you need for your Intel based iMac. Check the Apple website for complete specs.
Final Cut Express refers to versions 1 & 2. Final Cut Express HD refers to versions 3 & 3.5. With each release there are more features but the main difference in the HD versions is that that Apple added HD video capability to the product. Version 3.5 is the universal binary version and is what you need if you have an Intel-based Mac.
FCE does not edit MPEG video. You will need to convert to DV, most people have found MPEG Streamclip very useful. You may also need the QT MPEG2 Playback Component.

  • Can someone please tell me what version I could downgrade to where addons still work and FF will be fast again?

I get the spinning ball (for Mac) all the time now. FF is insanely slow! I clear history and then disabled history completely. I have tons of RAM and super fast internet speed (18 to 20 MBPS). I tweaked the config but that still didn't help. Its just SUPER SLOW! Also, I just noticed today that FF is automatically logging me out of websites that before I would never get automatically logged out (like Gmail) and even when posting this I was logged out. FF 5.0.1 is a mess. I don't care about the pretty new interface. With internet speeds of 18 to 20 MBPS and lots of RAM, it is speed that I need. Thank you. :-)

Could be the cable.  Have you tried:

    or

The only version that will work with a Mac OS X 10.4 system is ARD 2.2, which is the most recent version. 2.2 will work with 10.3 systems as well, so that's the one you need as of today.

I can confirm that what he's saying is true, I also have a 980 with 143 bios and MSI Live Update is telling me that there is a new bios 113 for my 980 Gaming.
So what do we do now? update it to 113 or leave it with 143?
Bcbarnes, lower number doesn't mean its a downgrade, they are just for different batches of 980 Gaming GPU's.
113 should really be for 980 gaming gpu's with serial number of lets say 03s for example, so it is strange that MSI Live Update is telling us to install 113 since our 980 serial code is 11s.
