  • What Web Cam is compatible with the Mac mini

    Hi everyone,
Thinking of buying a Mac mini to use with my Sony TV but I want to connect a web cam also. Does anyone know what web cam works with a Mac mini? Keen to get one but if I cannot find a compatible web cam I don't think I will. I have no wish to buy the apple monitor just for the use of a web cam.

    Hi Jamie,

  • What web cam(s) actually work with my macbook pro? (os10 ver 10.6.8)

What is the best (out of the box running) web cam for a macbook pro? ( I'm running os10.6.8)  Little background below:
Man I'm confused!  I see that the logitech c910 web cam works with the mac but then I also see that it only "sort of " works..... huh??  I got my macbook pro because its software instantly recognized me as the dummy.  Very "turn key" user friendly stuff with the MAC and great for music stuff which is what I do for a living.  One of my jobs is part time guitar instructor at a community college and I'm hoping to create digested vids of the sessions to help students that miss class.  I'd like to edit the videos in imovie and have some text/music stuff on the screen as well.  I knew there would be a little learning curve and it would take a while to get comfortable but I can't even get the camera to get started!   Any suggestions would help.  Especially from anyone who has done guitar stuff before i.e. youtube etc....thanks

I am embarrassed how simple that was.  I did warn you that I'm technologically challenged; I'm pretty sure that proved it.
The external hard drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The link you provided indicates the external drive will work with Time Machine.  I've never worked with Time Machine and don't know what my next step should be.  Would you please walk me through it?
Your help is greatly appreciated.  From the points you have accumulated, I can tell you have helped many others and I thank you for your generosity.

  • Alternate web cam for Mac

Hi guys, this may be only for Aussies and NZ's.
I have a imac G5 and was wanting to get a web camera for it. The isight is way too expensive for what it is, and the logitech 400 camera is also in the $140 mark. As I don't really care about the rez and so forth, I don't really want to pay so much money. There used to be a macally one that typically sold for around $50, but I can not seem to get it in Australia any longer.
Anyone know about any other possible web cams for mac that would be in the no-so-expensive range, and could be in Australia?
    Thanks
    Connor

    Hi Connor --
Is this what you had in mind: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001JSSLI/104-4462944-9175107?v=glance&n=17228 2
If you do decide to get it, or any other USB webcam, then don't forget to also get Ecamm's iChatUSBcam software.
FWIW, I love the iSight -- I realize it's expensive, but if you use it a lot you learn very quickly to appreciate the superior picture, sound and style.
    Either way, enjoy your cam...

  • Web cam for mac

My grand kids have just got an e mac and have set up msn messager to talk to their friends. I thought about buying them isight web cam for them for Xmas but the are expensive. Maybe this is not a good site to ask this question but anyone know of a good alternative which is more affordable?

The Mac version of MSN Messenger does not support video. Yahoo messenger's software supports video from Macs, and iChat supports video chatting with AIM.

  • Web Cam for eMac?

I'm looking for an inexpensive web cam for the eMac. It's just for the kids so I don't need an iSight or anything like that. Hopefully under $50. Any recommendations?

  • Web Cam for Apple Macbook.

Has anybody purchased the latest web cam for Apple.   Review please.

I get great results with a 12-month old Logitech Pro 5000 USB camera. Prior to the purchase of this C2D Mac mini, I used it with a 1 GHz eMac running Leopard & an 800 MHz iBook running Tiger. Since the arrival of OS 10.4.3, support for USB webcams has been built in.
I was surprised that the eMac worked as it is an older one without USB 2.0.
Prior to the purchase of the Logitech camera I also achieved excellent results using a Mini DV camcorder which connects via Firewire.

  • Web cam for G4

I never purchased an Isight when I originally bought my G4. Don't they make them anymore (I know - the new Macs have them built in). If they aren't available, what web cams will work with an iMac? Any recommendations?

  • What web cams are compatible with OS X 10.4.11 for 1.33 GHz 12"PowerPC G4? I want to use it with Skype. Please advise!

I wish to purchase a webcam for use with Skype.  I have a 12" PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4.11, 1.33 GHz.  What inexpensive webcams are compatible with my laptop?  (Mine is the metal case.  The model number is:  PowerBook 6,4)  Please advise.

Also consider Apple's iSight web cam. It connects via Firewire which is faster than USB2, has a built in microphone & is self focusing. Here's an old review http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1383357,00.asp
    I have one.
You can possible get a used one for $30-$50 on Craig's List or eBay. Be sure & get one with the laptop mount. The first versions only came with a table mount.

  • How do I activate web cam for Skype ?

I have just received this as a gift but cannot operate web cam when trying to answer Skype calls, is this possible ? Thanks in advance !

Whilst I appreciate your responding - I do not think this helps with what I was enquiring (at least not without further explanations anyways).
I am aware of, and do use, the function - System Preferences > Keyboard > Text - for various replacements like (tm), (c), etc .... and also for fractions like 1/2, 1/4, 1/3.
However, my question was in relation to SUPERSCRIPTS for dates / numbers - namely, superscripting numerical suffixes for things like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th,
So - please help - HOW do I set this up ? If indeed it is possible without System Preferences > Keyboard > Text ???

  • Excellent frame rate web cam for deaf users

Hello. My son and brother are deaf. I just got a new Dell Latitude E66410. I says it is your camera integrated in the laptop. When doing a yahoo video call with my son and brother, I noticed my video quality is superior to their laptop integrated webcams. The deaf community loves a high frame rate and high resolution for American Sign Language. What camera is in the E6410? Do you sell a USB version iof it? Can a different USB Camera of your offer the same HD quality and near 30FPS. Lots of Web Cams say HD, and 30FPS. This is the first one I have seen that lives up to it! Do your Live Cam series attain this quality. Thoughts or questions? Thanks! Mike

Try to take your processor and call the setRate(float rate); Method from it. I am also using this. It should work.

  • Web cam for G3?

I was wondering what, if any, web cameras work on G3 models. I see iSight cameras on eBay and other places. Is there a specific model or anything else to consider?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Discussions, PO-Dan
Your Mac can use a webcam, but what the camera can do depends on the apps you will use to operate it.
For instance, iChat AV (if you have it) will work on your Mac:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27456
You need to do more research based on what app you need for the functions you want and then what camera can work with those apps.
    For apps: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013310
    For cameras: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2018211
*For each app that offers a function of interest to you*, you must consider Mac OS, Processor type and speed, connectivity type and bandwidth, and other minimum System Requirements in addition to camera compatiblity.
Checking all system requirements will help you avoid disappointment and help you decide whether a newer Mac is needed to preform the video functions you want.

  • Can I use an IP camera for FaceTime on my Mac mini?

I have a Mac mini running Mountain Lion and I would like to know if it is possible to use the streaming video from a wireless IP camera as the video source for FaceTime (and other video apps). If so, how?
    Thanks!

    HI,
My mistake.  I saw the Mac Mini spec and presumed you were looking for any camera and had come across Wireless IP ones.
I know of one BlueTooth one (just to keep a spin on it ).
I have heard good things about this one - but mainly from 2 years or so ago when it was new.
Actually Wireless IP ones I know next to nothing about.
One of the main issues with iChat 2 through 4 is that the Video that iChat accepts is limited to DV from the External Firewire cameras that were about  or certain USB Cameras that produce output that works with the Utility from Ecamm or the Apple Framework item that was introduced later in OS X 10.4 for the USB 2.0/UVC compliant cameras.
By Snow Leopard and iChat 5 most computers do have USB 2.0 ports and all but two of the Mac range have Internal Cameras that are in fact USB 2.0.UVC Compliant.
On the other side as it were, are Camcorders also move to USB 2.0 over Firewire.
However in many cases the output is not DV and none are UVC compliant.
The video signals from these cannot be "translated by either the iUSBCam Ecamm utility or the internal Driver from Apple.
So the main issue will be the format of the Video output from the camera for iChat or Messages.
Other apps, particularly Quicktime, are going to have less of a problem as Quicktime can handle many more formats.

  • Can I use my iPhone or iPad as a web cam for my PC via the USB connection?

I've seen quite a few Apps for doing this wireless, most of which a very poorly executed OR don't work at all. I'm just wondering why it hasn't been more popular to do this via the USB connectivity.

Thanks Lawrence but the point is, I already own the $600 dollar device (given as a gift) and secondly because to purchase a web cam that has the same quality as the iPhone is actually just a bit more than $10 and I'm not really desirous to spend anymore money based on my budget.  Any ideas of whether or not it can actually be done via USB OR do you have experience with an actual App that works via wireless to a PC?  Thanks again...
