What wifi broadcaster do I need?

I am now SHARING my comcast internet from my 10,1 iMac with my iPad Air. I must keep the iMac running to do this. I desire to stop this and buy, what I would call a WiFi broadcaster, so I can shut down the iMac and use as needed.
What price should I pay for a home wifi broadcaster and what is a reliable Mac compatible brand? The cheaper the better, if I can get away w it.

At the time, it was a Netgear (which has been discontinued); I no longer have it because I switched ISPs and my new one requires me to have one of their modem/router combinations, so I sold the Netgear which was the best router I had! You can look at this page and compare/check any on this page:

Most of the current Apple Intel based computers are comparable in CPU speed. I don't think it is so much the model of laptop as it is the memory, and storage capacity of the machine. If you are going to use FCP on a regular basis, perhaps as a professional or semi-professional, then you should think about the maximum memory and a very large capacity internal disk drive. For instance, one hour of finished compressed video will take up about 1.5 to 2Gbytes of disk space. If you add up the raw footage and still imagery and audio, you'll use up your disk drive capacity real quick. So a hard disk on the order of 750Gbytes @ 7200rpms might be good for video editing. 5400RPMs might be slow to rendering times. Rendering a video might take up a lot of memory so more memory is better e.g. 8Gbytes.
As a rule of thumb, once you get to about 80% of your disk drive or memory you'll see degradation of performance.
You can check out macsales.com. THey have a menu system that will allow you to pick and choose from various alternatives. BTW, it's been said that although Macs are typically spec'd at a certain memory size, macsales.com found that Apple computers will actually support higher memory levels. That is, if 4Gbytes are spec'd, some machines support 6Gbytes. macsales.com will provide the guidance for you.
You might also consider buying an external disk e.g. 500Gbytes to carry around with you for back-up or transport to another machine.

Yes, home sharing requires both to be on the same wifi network. As it stands access to the network requires the login via webpage, which cannot be done on Apple TV. You will need to speak to IT in order to grant access for the device.

If your Bluetooth is working, you may be able to tether your phone to another device, and backup that way. Either via iCloud or one of many Apps that send yourself a VCF file containing your contacts.
You may have to update to a later IOS via USB and iTunes, not sure if IOS 6 has Bluetooth Tethering.
I would have thought you could also switch off cloud sync'ing for your contacts, this should ask a question if you want to keep the contacts on your phone. An iTunes Backup and then Restore to your new iPhone should restore the local contacts. Then sync these back to the iCloud.

Need to replace wifi card. For the life of me, I can't find the exact model # of wifi card I will need. Only that I need "AirPort Extreme (802.11g/n)," but when I search for that, I get all sorts of different shaped and sized cards that meet those specs.

I would try giving them a call at their support number. They may be able to help both identify the correct part and know where you can get a replacement. In addition, you may also want to consider getting a wireless USB adapter. You would use this instead of the internal card. There are a number of vendors providing these as well.

LaserJet Pro 200 Color M251nw : Cannot find its WiFi broadcast signal

I have a unique problem. I have a PC which is connected to my router via ethernet cable. I also have an iMac which is connected to the network wirelessly. I have a LaserJet Pro 200 M251nw connected to my router via ethernet cable.
I was able to print from my iMac by selecting the printer network and printing, and then switching back to my router to access the internet.
I use VMWare on my iMac in order to use Wordperfect 12. I was printing fine from Wordperfect until there was a power outage.
Nothing was damaged, but now I cannot get the WiFi broadcast from my printer any more. I cannot print from my iMac, my iPad or anything. I am confused as to the wireless direct printing and wireless printing. I am trying to figure out how to get my printer to broadcast its WiFi signal.
I am no where near technically inclined and I cannot figure this out. I did try to restore the defaults on the printer, but with every forum I have visited, I am getting more and more confused.
Can someone help me resolve this issue. If you need any further information, I will gladly provide.
I am in a desperate situation. My work demands a printer, and right now I have no means of being able to deliver.

I see by your post that you are unable to print over the network through the Ethernet connection.
I can help you with this issue.
Wireless Direct is to connect directly to the printer's network and be able to print.
Wifi is to connect over the wireless network. You can access the internet at the same time and still be able to print.
Since you are connecting the printer with a Ethernet cable to the router the Wifi is automatically turned off.
You can only use one or the other.
With the Ethernet cable still connected to the router, print a configuration page to see if the printer is getting a valid IP address from the router.
Printing a Configuration Report.
Select Method one.
If not, power cycle the router and try another port on the router.
If you have a valid IP address for the printer then try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer. If it connects then the printer and the computer are connected.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Safari)
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
Click Printers & Scanners, then click the + sign.
Select the printer from the list. (make sure the printer listed beside use: shows proper the printer name and not Airprint) Click on the add button. (you might have to click on the dropdown to select your printer)
Test the printer.
If you are having network issues, then add the printer through the IP Protocal.
After clicking the + button, select the IP icon across the top, type in the printer's IP address, select jet direct below and then Apply.
Test the printer on Mac platform to verify it isn't the printer or a hardware issue.
Reinstall the printer in the VMWare if you are still having issues.
You might need to contact the VMWare manufacturer for any possible issues or assistance.

It has no correlation. You do not have to have an Apple ID in order house an iPhone. An Apple ID is only needed to use iCloud and iTunes & App Store on an iPhone. You can have an iPhone set up as new, no user data whatsoever, and still connect to wi-fi.
Making a new Apple ID had nothing to do with fixing the wi-fi on your iPhone. It's like saying that putting a new driver into a car suddenly fixed the transmission problem.

While correct answers have already been posted here, let me broaden the scope a little to provide a context.
In data communication, there is often a need to send a datagram to all stations connected to the same medium, or the same link, without even knowing their own addresses. It is like shouting aloud in a room to speak to all present persons at once, without knowing their names. This is broadcasting. We use it often, not just if intentionally want a message to be delivered and processed by all other stations, but also in times when we want the message to be processed only by a single specific device - but we do not know the address of that device, so the only solution is to send the message to everyone and hope that the specific device receives the broadcast as well. Think of DHCP, for example: a client that has just started does not know the address of the DHCP server. The only way of contacting it is to send the DHCP datagrams as broadcasts, hoping that apart from other clients that will receive these DHCP messages (and ignore them), they will also be received by a DHCP server who will then respond.
Because datagrams commonly used in our networks, either frames or packets, have only a single "Destination Address" field, you cannot list all possible recipients in that field of a single frame to make sure that everyone receives it. Instead, a specific pre-defined address is used in place of the destination address field, indicating that this is a broadcast datagram intended to be received and processed by everyone.
On Ethernet, the broadcast MAC address is FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
In IPv4, a so-called limited broadcast address is 255.255.255.255. Packets destined to this address are never routed through a router.
In IPv4, each network and subnet has its specific broadcast address that is also called a directed broadcast. For example, the 192.168.1.0/24 network has the broadcast address of 192.168.1.255. The 10.0.8.64/29 network has the broadcast address of 10.0.8.71. These broadcast addresses are called directed broadcasts because they can actually be used to send broadcasts from a different source than the network itself: From any location, I can send packets destined to 192.168.1.255 and they will initially be routed normally just like any other IP packets but when they reach a router on which a network is directly attached for which the 192.168.1.255 would be a broadcast address, these packet might be forwarded into that network as broadcasts.
There is a relation between broadcast MAC and IP addresses. As you know, when unicast IP packets are sent over an Ethernet network, they are encapsulated into Ethernet frames and the destination MAC is resolved using the ARP protocol. With a packet destined to a broadcast IP address, there is an exception: the IP stack knows immediately that the packet shall be encapsulated into frames with the destination MAC of FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF.
It is worth noting that the broadcasting is primarily a function of Layer2. It is the Ethernet that allows sending a single datagram and have it delivered to all stations within an Ethernet domain (LAN or VLAN). You could have your IPv4 driver generate broadcast packets but they must still be encapsulated into Layer2 frames, and if the particular Layer2 technology does not support broadcasts on its own, you simply don't have it. The only thing you can do is to send multiple Layer2 frames carrying the same broadcast IP packet, with the Layer2 frames being addressed to each connected station in turn. You would emulate the broadcast in this way, but it is not a true broadcast.

EXACTLY what cable(s) do I need to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution?

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011 w/ Intel HD 3000/ 384Mb) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution. Specifically, what cable/connections do I need to display at this resolution? I cannot get the display to work using a "Thunderbolt to HDMI" or a "Thunderbolt to DVI" connector. Note: I used both older and newer (uni-directional) HDMI cables on the first config, and a Dual-link DVI cable on the second config. Apple specs state this is possible ( support.apple.com/kb/SP619 ), but I am at a loss as to how this can be done. Thanks in advance for the help!

You use a Mini DisplayPort to either HDMI or dual-link DVI adapter. If that component doesn't work, something's wrong with either the cable or something else in the connection.

The answer is not if you use iTunes.
The TC is NOT an iTunes server.. it is not a media device at all. It is a backup location for Time Machine.
You need a computer in the network which stores the iTunes library and you can then play it via the ipad.
A mini with a large USB drive plugged in will work fine.. it doesn't need to be new.. a couple of years old mini will work just as well.
As an extention to this, can we use multiple Airport expresses plugged into mutiple sound systems to simultaneously access different music from the same time capsule?
I am not sure.. there will be network limitations to this.

I'm having similar issues with my phone. I got my first iPhone recently, only had an iPod touch gen4 for a little over a year. Updated to 6.0.2 when we got the phone (iPhone 5) a few days before Christmas. When I got home on the evening of January 11, my phone would not connect the router anymore. I was able to get it to connect after resetting the phone and the router, updating the router, and manually connecting. That laste for a few minutes and then wouldn't work anymore. I live in an area with very limited service, we have a network extender installed to help, and I am barely getting a 3G signal at times.
My wife's iPad 4, my touchiPod 4, and all of our laptops are working just fine on the router. When I dropped my kid off at school today, I noticed that I am not even seeing the school network anymore from the parking lot where before I got 3 or 4 bars and could connect to their wifi when I was there. Today my phone goes back and forth between seeing my home network but not connecting, to not even seeing the network at all even from the same room that the router is in.
Hope Apple fixes this problem soon..............
