I wish to achieve these goals:
• The ability to have different users log into the makeshift server with their own personal accounts.
• Limit his/her filespace on the server to a certain amount.
Btw - I unfortunatly; (due to lack of funding no less) do not have Mac OSX Server. If there is a cheap application that can do this or there is a way to do this without spending money that would be great. Thanks.

Well... I don't know how to create a whole user account using NetInfo. Usually I create a user in Workgroup Manager/System Preferences then add the quota limit in NetInfo.
I suppose that you could make a user account using System Preferences then copy the properties into a new directory. But for passwords, there is hash files needed to create for users. These hash file are stored at (/var/db/shadow/hash).
Sorry, Just don't know the way to create a whole account with NetInfo.

Hi Carsten...good luck with your project.. I had just about as many Video8 & Hi8 tapes as
you that I digitized and eventually brought into FCPX..took me many months not weeks
to do so,BTW, as each tape was 60-90 minutes in lenght...and many hundreds of
gigab ytes of storage ( uncompressed AVI files)..it's tedious work unless you plan to farm
it out to a processing house...also regarding eventual storage format...remember
Hi8 is 400 lines or about 540X480 in todays resoultion metrics..you can't make hi-def out
of source that starts out as 400 lines...in my case I rewrapped the avi files into .mov
containers and imported the mov files into FCPX where I got rid of the hundreds of
minutes of Colorado mountain landscapes to get to that one minute shot of the kids
on horseback ( late 80's for most of my archives)..so its a job..scouring thru 30X90 min
of source to not miss those precious memories takes diligence and hard work but its worth

Everytime I put my Apple ID into iTunes, it says it won't connect. What will fix this?

So I have a Verizon Wireless USB modem for internet access, and I have to turn off airport in order to gain access to the internet (some issue with VZW). And I can't have the modem plugged into anywhere but on the computer itself. So, I connected the Time Capsule to my iMac using an ethernet cord. All that being said, my Time Capsule initially would blink the amber light of doom while I was connected to the internet, and then would function just fine whenever I was disconnected, and then it stopped. I have tried resetting it, I have tried reinstalling, and I have since given up because I don't know what to do with it. I have even tried a new cord, thinking that that might help things. Please, please help. My grad school work needs to be backed up ASAP. Thanks in advance!

Your Verizon network adapter probably has a lower priority than your airport and/or wired connection, we'll move it up so that your computer tries to use this connection to get online before any other one. Try connecting wirelessly or with your network cable to your Time Capsule. If your Time Capsule doesn't appear in Finder, open the Airport Utilty (Applications/Utilities). If the Airport Utility can see your Time Capsule, make sure the Disk Sharing is enabled and that you have the right password.
If you can't connect or the Airport Utility can't see your Time Capsule, click on your desktop (to change the top menus to the Finder menus) then click on "GO" and "Connect to a Server". In the server name field enter the afp:\\10.0.1.1:548. If you changed the IP address of your Time Capsule enter it there followed by :548.

As I am a rooky with Premier Element 11, I comes to you all to get your feedback with your configuration choice.
My PC is a self made choice:
CPU is Intel Core i7 3770K - 3.5Ghz
GPU is a GeForce GTX 660 OC 2Go or ATI HD 5870
RAM is 16 Go (2x8Go) gskill PC3-10700 (2400 Mhz)
Motherboard is Asus P8Z77-V Pro
SSD is a Samsung Pro 256Go defines as the system (C:\)
Premiere Element is installed on it.
What would you do if you have the choice to buy 1 or 2 HDD 1To SATA III 64Mo (6 Gbit/s) ?
I would like to know where I should put the following files in order to get the best performance to encode a movie in full HD.
- Movie source files
- Premiere Element Temp Files
- Output (final movie file)

The tradition with HDDs is to spread them out on multiple drives to prevent input/output drive bottlenecks. All of the article in the Adobe libraries (that I've found) are aimed at users with workstations that have multiple hard drives and various backup systems. Few articles have mentioned SSDs as apparently they have not been considered trustworthy.
I have a new ASUS i7 laptop and am very happy creating a new folder for each project and putting everything in that folder. I create the folder, put copies of the media I plan to use in it, start a new project and double check in preferences that scratch disks are all set for "same as project".
Since I use the SSD as the work drive, my HDD is for storage and less significant software installations. At 7200 RPM it is relatively fast, but not that important for they way I manage video projects.
At output I get near 1:1 render times, unless there is significant use of effects and multiple video tracks.
The laptop has a 7200 RPM HDD. I tried various suggestions for spreading out the source, temp and output files and got no noticeable improvements in performance. So, if you choose to manage projects like I do, it does not matter much what HDD you buy.
When a project is complete I move the entire folder to another drive for storage and back that up on yet another drive. If I want to work on a project, I can move the entire folder back to the SSD. I find it very convenient.

Firefox will not download any application, file, or picture. What will fix this?

Hello all. Recently Firefox has stopped downloading anything. When I click "DL" , "Save As" , "Save", or "Run". The download window pops up and nothing happens. I've read through all the articles and did the troubleshooting and nothing works. Any other recommendations other then what is already listed on the forums?

You have the Zoom Downloader extension.
Did you check if that extension or possible another extension isn't the cause of your issue?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

The same thing happened to me! I was so fustrated. Finally, I found an answer. First, go to QuickTime. Then click Edit> Prefrences> QuickTime Prefrences. Go to the Audio tab, then click the button that says "Select Audio Playback and Recording Devices." A window should come up, and click on the box that says "Speakers/Headphones." Then click "Set Default." Do the same with the box below, then exit QuickTime. When you open iTunes again, you should be able to play music. Hope I helped!

u can actually force it to delete, oviously i assume you dont have the application or data etc open neware else?
try restarting your computer, go into finder close all your open applications etc, servers, **** even clear your data in your web browser, do a disk utility check and verify your drives and repair em if nessicary.

Since installing Snow Leopard and then Lion on my Intel-based iMac two weeks ago, my iTunes program seems to open at will whenever the computer is on. It often begins playing music, as well. What is causing this and how do I make it stop?

There are ways to minimize, mitigate, and help avoid a lot of problems.
Bootable backups.
Zeroing a drive twice before using, and format it with SL DVD Apple Disk Utility for sure.
Even a clean install should import old apps without having to reauthorize.
If you must do an upgrade, do it from the SL DVD, after repairing the drive and be sure to use the SL version of Alsoft Disk Warrior (4.2).
Wait six months before jumping on a new OS.
10% is still too many. Yes, it is more sensitive to RAM and hard drive errors, doesn't like some controllers; most ext hdd cases; and enough software to make for test-only status. And it only IDs some known incompatible applications, drivers, extensions, etc and does not remove even those always in best manner.
Plus, there are problems with the new Rosetta and the cache files it now uses. So some apps and plug-ins will cause more trouble. Not all are ready. Good reason to hold off for the months it takes.
Other devices act different as far as on/off behavior.
(Migrating from G5s to Mac Pro can cause all kinds of problems, weird behavior, sluggish system, and why anyone that went down that road was strongly recommended to NOT use Migration Assistant for any of their applications, and to ONLY do clean/fresh installs of any apps. If you skipped that day, didn't read the Guide to M.A., or didn't want to do fresh installs then, your system could have been on borrowed time. If you did do clean install of applications, great.
Installing SL can result in a corrupt directory - I think and it "seems" to be happening, but no real proof, just gut feeling and instinct (underlying file system problem? weak sectors that pre-existed waiting to happen?).
Remember all the "there just aren't a lot of 64-bit drivers" for Vista and XP? it's come home to roost.

There are many ways and applications that you can use to build a web site. Which will be best for you will depend on the site you want to build and your level of expertise. Many experienced web developers just use a text editor, often one with specialized features for web programming (BBEdit, for example), but there are programs that can offer additional help, up to and including "drag and drop". Without knowing more about your needs, it's difficult to offer specific advice, but here are some possibilities:
iWeb - came with your Mac. Easy to build but rather limiting in what you can do.
RapidWeaver - more flexible and capable than iWeb but harder to use; sort of an "inbetweener" application
Dreamweaver - powerful but expensive and a steep learning curve
There are of course a number of other options. If you can provide more detail about what you wish to build and your level of experience, someone can probably make more targeted recommendations.

1. Will the rollback take place?
or
