What will happen if I restore my iPhone if it hasnt let me back it up?

I tried to back-up my iPhone 3gs but a message came up saying it needed to be updated first. I updated it and now there is a message on the phone screen saying that i need to connect to itunes, however when i try this, its telling me I need to restore my iPhone first. What will happen if I restore it with no way of knowing whether its backed up or not.
Thank you
Panicking!!!!!

Download iTunes into your computer/laptop.  Upon iTunes completion, connect your iPhone 3Gs to your computer via USB port.  Wait for a minute or 2.  iTunes would automatically backup your iPhone without you doing anything. Make sure you're connected to WIFI.
Good luck

t will happen if i restore my iphone? i heard that i will not see my past datas anymore like notes, pictures and apps. i didn't back up my iphone and i dont want to lose my datas

Backup your phone before restoring and then you can't possibly lose any data.
You should also be syncing your phone with iTunes, iCloud or some other service, so that data should be safe and re-appear on the phone when you set it up again with the same sync service.

  • HT204266 I have always synced my iPhone with my PC, what will happen if I sync my iPhone with my new Macbook Air?

I have always synced my iPhone with my PC, what will happen if I sync my iPhone with my new Macbook Air?
I am hoping to switch from being dependent solely on my PC to rarely using it and having freedom to use either more Mac/iPhone and less PC, but I have my MSOffice software on the PC .
I want to sync my iPhone and not lose anything and have a faster experience.

  • What will happen after I deactivate my iphone?

Hello, fellow people of the internet!! I'd really like to know, what will happen if I have AT&T deactivate the sim card on my iphone and reactivate the one from my old samsung phone? If someone has gone through a similar experience, would it be possible for you to talk me through the process, or just let me know if there's anything special or worrying that I should know? Can you keep the iphone and continue using it (without any of its actual cellular features, I know), do they charge you for anything , either right there at AT&T or later on in the form of a bill? Is it a quick process or would it be rather complicated? If you couldn't already tell, I'm clueless but I just don't want there to be any surprises if I go through with this 'cause I'd really like to go back to my old phone (is that shocking to anyone? :O) but still keep the iphone around and give it some use without much complications. Anyways, thanks in advance for your time and answers, I really appreciate it!!! :D

  • What will happen when I restore my iPod?

I have a few songs that I downloaded from the iTunes store, and cannot get them off my iPod Touch. See this thread for full discription of the problem.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16745511#16745511
Anyway long story short, what exactly happens when I restore it. Do I lose my photos, emails, contacts. Will all of the songs be deleted so I could re-sync them from my computer, the way I want them?
Can I also re-sync all my other stuff back to the iPod? This part is important to me.
Or would it be faster to go to an Apple store and have them delete the songs, @ 100km from my house.

  • What will happen when i restore iphone 5 to a new one

i wanna know if it deleted or forget my number if i restore it or will it be the same (i have no sim card)

Yes. Note that if you restore it as New you lose everything that is on it. If you restore it from a current backup you will lose only what is not stored in the device's backup:
    Music
    Books
    Videos
    Photos
These are either stored in the iTunes Library on your hard drive. Photos are usually kept in iPhoto unless you store them elsewhere.

  • What will happen if I sync my iPhone with a new PC?

My PC with my iTunes on has unfortunately passed over. My music is all backed up, this is not a problem. My problem is my photos and messages, apps and app data. These are all stored on my phone and were a mixture of purchases on the old PC and the iPhone 4 handset.
I also had apps on iTunes that I hadn't synced with the phone.
Is there a way I can sync with my new computer and upgrade to 5.0.1 without losing anything?

yes u will lose all the files on it, if you choose to sync it to another PC.
first. sync it to the computer you originally synced it to, hence back it up
now go to new PC, and sync, loose all data.
now copy data from old PC to new pc
add it to itunes and such now tell it what media to sync
    another option, use icloud.
tell icloud to sync all your photos, data and such and simply use icloud to sync up that stuff. as long as it does not go over 5gb.

  • Ios 5 - what will happen when i update my iPhone? Will i loose my contacts?

When i hit update in iTune for my iPhone 4 to update to ios 5, its says this...
Does this mean I will loose all my contacts and calendar? photos?
    thanks

Just clarifying something. Backups do not backup your apps. When you install iOS5, all of your apps MAY be gone. If they are, go to the App Store>Updates>and then the new Purchased tab. Click on that and redownload anything you want to download. All of that Angry Birds progress will be still intact and you won't be charged again.

  • Shutter won't open in camera what will happen on complete restore

If I rest my iPad 2 as a new one to get my camera shutter to reopen will i lose all my data pics ecetra and will I need to re download my iOS from a PC in iTunes or will the pad take care of itself

Before you restore your iPad have you tried closing the camera app and rebooting the iPad?
From your home screen, double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Yes you will lose everything unless you backup your iPad and sync with iTunes first. You can restore from the backup and then resync your content after you set up as new again. When you restore the iPad, iTunes reinstalls the iOS for you.

  • What will happen if i reset my phone..will i lose my contacts?

what will happen if i reset my iphone ..will i lose my contacts??

No. You will not lose your contacts just by resetting.
If at some point you need to restore your iPhone, you can re sync your contacts using iTunes.

  • What will happen if skip upgrading iPhone 3G & then restore to iPhone 4?

Character limit in the subject line made it hard to get my point across, so I'll expound...
I've got an iPhone 3G running iOS 3.1.3, and also have my reservation in to get the iPhone 4 on Thursday. In light of lots of people talking about performance troubles with iOS 4.0 on the iPhone 3G, I'm thinking I might skip the upgrade.
Normally, when I've gotten new iPhones, I do a full backup right before I go to the Apple Store, and then when I get home I plug the new phone in and let it restore all of my data. But, what will happen when I plug in my iPhone 4 if my 3G backup has everything coming from a 3.1.3 image? Is it going to end up "downgrading" my iPhone 4 to iOS 3.1.3, forcing me to then run an OS upgrade? Is the restore going to outright fail?
Wondering if I don't just need to bite the bullet and upgrade my iPhone 3G to make Thursday that much easier...

It will work, It will use the apps and data from the old backup, but will not change the operating system version.

  • What will happen If I update my factory locked iphone 4 to iOS 7?

I have a factory locked iphone.I just forgot the passcode now i want to restore it itunes are showing the message that it can restore & update only.i want to know that if i update ios7 what will happen.you can also help me how to restore my iphone without updating it?

    MRaza91 wrote:
okay, but just to be safe, how can we be sure that our phone is fatory unlocked? because my cousin apparently had a factory unlocked iphone 3g and updated it iOS 6.1.3 and it got locked
Your cousins phone was therefore not, in fact, factory unlocked.  An iPhone sold directly by Apple as unlocked will never lock because of an iOS update.
An iPhone unlocked by going through proper procedures and channels with the carrier to whom it was originally locked will never lock again because of an iOS update.
An iPhone hacked to unlock it (which is unlocked by ANY other means then the first two) will lock again whenever iOS is updated.
If I had to guess, I would say 90% of privately sold iPhones sold as "unlocked" are in fact merely hacked to unlock them, and WILL relock when updated.
Some iPhones sold in Europe are also sold as "SIM free" and contract free, but do in fact lock to the carrier of the first SIM inserted in them.  No contract, or "SIM free" does not mean unlocked.
