What will happen with my Boot Camp partition if I'll do a celan install of Mac OS X Lion?

I'm planing to do a clean install of Lion (form USB drive). Will my Boot Camp partition (where I have Windows 7 installed) stay untouched?

You can clone the Bootcamp partition from within OS X using the free WinClone.
http://download.cnet.com/Winclone/3000-2242_4-11089354.html
You can also clone your Snow Leopard to another drive (needs a whole one to itself/partition) using the free Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Does anyone know what will happen to my boot camp partition once I upgrade to lion?

I have MacBook Pro (4,1) running leopard 10.6.8 and am hesitant about the upgrade to lion because I have a FAT boot camp partition with window xp in it and a number of apps that I wouldn't like to lose in the process. Does anybody know how the upgrade handles the boot camp partition?

While this is the way it is supposed to work, because the Lion upgrade does try to create a new Recovery HD partition on the system disk, there is a chance that the BootCamp partition can be corrupted. Unfortunately Apple does not provide a tool or instructions on how to backup the BootCamp partition. I have had good results with WinClone even though the program seems to be no longer supported. I have just restored my XP BootCamp partition after my live partition was apparently corrupted by my Lion install. My recommendation to anyone running a BootCamp partition would be to back it up prior to any upgrade attempt.

  • I have an old imac 27' with OS 10.7. What will happen with lightroom 6 ?

I have an old imac 27 ' with mac os 10.7.
I try creative cloud and lightroom 5. It works perfectly... But what will happen with lightroom 6 ?

It's pretty simple. Lightroom 6 will not run on OS 10.7. See http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2015/01/update-on-os-support-for-next-version-of-l ightroom.html
You will need to either stay with Lightroom 5, or upgrade your operating system.

  • Migration Planning: What will happen with clients when changing namespace?

    Hello,
We are planning to upgrade our EX2010 enviroment to EX2013.
Sadly our namespace in EX2010 is right now owa2.domain.com. The name owa2 is coming from last migration between ex2003 and ex2010. I'd like to remove this minor flaw if possible.
But what will happen with all the clients and mobile devices which are right now bound to owa2.domain.com? Is it possible to change the name back to owa.domain.com without manual interaction with the clients?
    Kind Regards

    Hi ,
Based on my knowledge for services like pop, imap and active sync we need to have the manual interaction.Without manual intercation we cannot achieve this.
Same time we need to have the new name on the SAN certificate .
For owa users you can simply communicate the new url via email and then for internal outlook and external outlook connectivity we need to repair the profiles to force the autodiscover service to fetch up the new name.On my experience most of the times repair
will not help.So again your only hope would be reconfiguring the existing profiles.
Note : Most importantly before renaming the host A record on the external and internal dns all you need is to reduce the TTL value for the existing host A record on the name owa2.domain.com.So
that external and internal clients will not have the dns cache for a long period.
Anyhow we will wait for some expert inputs on this case.Because their ideas might be good and different than me.
    Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

  • What will happen with the code?

What will happen with the code below?
    for (i=0; i<=10000; i++)
    Object[] obj = new Object[5];
In every loop, a new Array of Object wll be created. Will the Array of Object created in the
current loop( for example, i=2001), eliminate the Array of Object created in previous loop
(for example, i=2000 or 1999)? How the memory is allocated in every loop?
    Thanks.

Each time through the loop, an array of five Object references is created. A reference to this array is assigned to the reference variable obj, causing the previously allocated array to be unreachable (except the first time through the loop, if obj was originally null). The garbage collector will collect these unreachable arrays if the memory gets low.

  • If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

Lion will run on most Intel machines. It will not run on the following machines:
MacBook Pro (sold before October 2006)
    MacBook (sold before November 2006)
Mac Mini (sold before August 2007)
    iMac (sold before September 2006)
It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo (or later CPU). Those machines listed above were all Intel Core Duo machines and with the exception of one of the Mac Minis, an Intel Core Solo. So we're talking 4+ year old machines. I have not tested Lion on a machine with anything less than 2GB of RAM.
Wikipedia has a pretty good public summation of what's known so far and it's quite accurate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Lion
The biggest thing of note so far is that you cannot install/run Rosetta. Which maybe problematic for some users.

  • Testing Lightroom 5 - What will happen with my Lightroom 3 catalogue??

I am currently working with Lightroom 3. What will happen with my catalogue file(s) if I start the test of Lightroom 5? Is it possible to switch bak to Lightroom 3 after testing without restore of the "old" Lightroom 3 catalogue?

    In short, Yes.
When you install and launch LR5 it will find your catalog(s) and when it tries to open them it will promt you to approve conversion from 3 to 5.
This will duplicate your catalog (not the assets) and leave your version 3 catalogs untouched.
If you want to return to a version 3 catalog for some reason then you will simply open it with LR3 which will remain on your machine.
Note that the newer features will not be available or readable by the version 3 catalogs. So if you make changes to a raw file using new tools those changes will not show when viewing the file in LR3 catalogs.
To properly "test" LR5 for your purposes I recommend you catalog new files and not the existing ones you have until you are comfortable with LR5. When you are comfortable, then upgrade your current catalogs.

  • What is special about a Boot Camp partition?

I have a somewhat complicated partition setup. Boot Camp Assistant, naturally, refuses to add a partition. I intend to eventually boot Windows directly and use Parallels to virtualize, but as far as I can tell Parallels insists on having a genuine Boot Camp partition to virtualize.
How can I emulate what Boot Camp does to a partition to trick everyone into thinking the partition was created with Boot Camp?

Boot Camp Assistant will only create a partition on an OS X drive that only has one partition - Macintosh HD. If you have more than one partition on your hard drive, then Boot Camp will not create another partition.
If you want to create a bootable Windows partition on a drive that has more than one partition already, then you need to use a third-party boot loader such as Boot Runner or The rEFInd Boot Manager. I cannot tell you if these work with Parallels.

  • Can I recovery Lion with a Boot Camp partition?

    Hello,
I have a MBP with Lion and Windows 7 on Boot Camp. I need to initialize the Lion partition and do a clean installation of the operating system for various reasons. Can I initialize the Lion partition with Disk Utility in the Recovery HD and re-install Lion without affecting Windows? Will it work correctly after this operation? Or I need to delete the Boot Camp partition first, and recreate it at the end of the whole process?

Yes, you can. Your Boot Camp partition is unaffected by installing or reinstalling OS X on a different partition.
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select Macintosh HD volume from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • How do I restore data to a new mac with windows boot camp partition?

    Hi
I have a new iMac and an old MBP, I'd like to copy all of the data of my old MBP to the iMac.Would doing that affect the windows boot camp partition?
and how do I do it?
right now im backing everything up on my MBP using super duper
both the MBP and the iMac are running on Lion

I am assuming the Boot Camp partition is on the old MBP and that the SuperDuper clone is on an external drive and is bootable. The Super Duper clone does not include the Boot Camp Partition.
To get the Mac Data moved you can use Migration Assistant and if you want to transfer the Boot Camp partition you would need Winclone to move/copy it to a newly created Boot Camp partition on the iMac. The SD Clone ( and a Winclone backup) is your insurance policy if some kind of difficulty arises.

  • Upgrading MBP HD with a boot camp partition

    Hi all,
I'm upgrading the HD in my late-2006 MBP. It currently has a Boot Camp partition running WinXP and between the two partitions, I've run out of room. I've upgraded Mac HDs before and know about Carbon Copy Cloner, but I am not sure how to migrate both partitions. Is there a software tool that will clone both partitions at once? If not, how do I go about doing this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Wardoggie

I don't know if I want to go the virtualization route.
Both VMware Fusion and Parallels offer a free 30-day trial, in case you want to check it out, and VirtualBox is free.
Thanks for leaving feedback in Apple Discussions by marking a "helpful" post.
    Good luck.

  • What will happen with my installed softwares?

Hi I am using MacBook Pro with C2D and having latest version of SL. But I have installed lots of software useful for my business including virtual machine and I am using Windows 7 ultimate on it. So I am wondering what will happen if I upgrade this to Lion? Do I need to install everything again or it will be as it is like on my snow leopard?

I don't know about VMware, but I can tell you that when I opened Windows XP the first time in Parallels after upgrading to Lion, I had to re-setup the virtual machine. Other than this, no problems. CS3 and older WILL NOT run in Lion, but CS4 and newer run without problems.
Go to About this Mac > applications, and here you can see which of your applications are PowerPC, thus not compatible with Lion.
    Cheers
