What will i lose if i restore my iphone?

why is it that every time i add ringtones to my ringtone folder when my iphone is hooked up to my imac, they disappear two seconds later?  right after i sync, they're gone.  am i doing something wrong?  i've restarted twice, to no avail.  should i restore settings?  and what will i lose if i do that?  can anybody help?  or am i the only one who has ever encountered this problem?  =(

  • What will I lose by making a new Apple ID?

As of right now, I use my dad's apple id, and do not use iCloud. I want to upgrade my MacBook pro to mountain lion, and star using iCloud, but I don't want all of my information and my dad's information being synced together. To make sure that doesn't happen, I'm assuming I would need to make a new apple id. If I were to make a new apple id, what would I lose on my Mac and iPhone? By this, I mean would I lose my contacts from my iPhone, my music, my apps, etc.?
    Thanks

To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud too.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photostream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
You could therefore keep access to your apps and your music by continuing to use your dad's ID for iTunes/App Store, but create your own ID for mail, contacts calendars etc.
When you log out of your dad's account for iCloud, you should be given the opportunity to keep data in contacts etc on your device, which you can then merge with your new iCloud account when you log in.
If at anytime anything goes wrong, you can still log into your dad's iCloud account as a secondary account and access all the data which can be copied to your new iCloud account manually.

  • What will I lose with a factory reset?

I used to love my S5 but lollipop has made me want to throw it thru a window. A fully charged battery does not last thru the night not being used (with all apps closed). The  Android OS and Android System are using the battery with a few other things using single digit percentage. It is also slow to respond and frequently get pop-ups that contacts or other things have stopped responding. It overheats and shuts down when not in use.
I tried following the steps to clear the cache (Power, volume up, home) but it just keeps going from the screen with the white Samsung Galaxy S5 to the one with the Samsung rainbow logo then back to the white one. I tried volume down, power, home and get a screen about installing a custom OS.
So as a last resort what will I lose if I do a factory reset and has anybody had that actually help because I have seen posts that it didn't.

It may or may not help, but can't hurt to try.  It will reset your phone back to a factory fresh (with Lollipop) activated state.  All account information and apps you have installed will be gone.  If you are logged and synced to google prior to the reset (check in settings under accounts selected google account and make sure everything has synced successfully).  When you log back into your google account it will bring back most of your settings, apps and contacts etc.  If you have installed any apps that store local data they will be as though they were fresh installed with all data cleared.  You can also use Verizon cloud or Samsung to backup things such as contacts, messages, pictures, music.
Your SD card will remain untouched so if you have one and pictures and music are on there they will remain.
If you don't have an SD card make sure your pictures and music have been backed up somewhere as well.

  • What will I lose if I reset network settings? Was advised to try this to improve performance

What will I lose if I reset my network settings? Was advised to try this to improve performance.  Will it make significant changes that I cant recover?

Resetting network settings clears out all your wi-if passwords as well as any other associations with wi-networks you've made. For example, if you connect to your coffee shop's open wi-fi network automatically you will need to manually rejoin it like you did the first time to re-establish that association. It will also erase any Bluetooth pairings you've setup.

  • IPhone with broken screen can't sync, what will I lose?

    Hello,
I apologise if this is a really stupid question.
I last backed up my phone a few weeks ago, carried on taking pictures with it etc, and then dropped it, breaking the screen which turned black with a single white line down the middle.
I can receive calls by guessing where to swipe so it is sort of working.
A new iPhone is in the post, but I can't back this phone up because I get the following message when I try:
"iTunes could not back up the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be backed up."
I have been searching the web, but can't find a way to unlock the phone.
So (unless anyone has a genius idea, in which case I will love them forever), what will I lose if I don't sync?
I don't think I should lose the photos I took since my last sync, since Photostream should take care of that, no?
    Many thanks, C

There is no way for you to backup with a broken screen.
You will lose whatever wasn't backup.

  • What will I lose if I delete lightroom 4?

I've had it...I want to SAFELY go back to LR 3.6...and I'm scared.  I don't want to lose anything, but I'm willing to lose all edits since I installed LR4, which for me has been a nightmare, with no help from Adobe. Can I just "uninstall" and try reinstalling, as normal...what will I lose?  I am so gun shy - I tried just switching back to LR3.6 having not deleted it and it is broken too, and a handful of previews load, then others try to load, taking far far too long.  If previews do load, they disappear when I scroll up or down (if it lets me).  I've tried all the suggestions on this forum that I understand and are somewhat basic.  I've checked my CPU usage, and system, which should be more than adequate and find nothing wrong here to indicate that it wasn't LR4 causing this, especially after reading other's posts.
Adobes lack of customer service is astounding.  Their design of sending us looping through the help system only to advertise their products and "services"  is worse than no help in my opinion.  Frustration from near non stop 3 days of trying to get this fixed.  I did receive a couple of replies to questions I posted on the forum, so I appreciate that.  Unfortunately, I'm where I was before.  Am I missing something?  Is there help that I don't know about?

You will lose PV 2012 edit capability, the amazing editing of RAW and jpeg files, the way that upping the shadow detail does not introduce 1/10th as much noise as fill did. You will lose the ability to lift the whites and drop the blacks, the ability to add the incredible clarity and compromise its crushing blacks by reducing the black levels.
You will lose the ability to Geotag your photos using data from GPS trackers or iphones or similar machines that generate the necessary GPX (?) files.
You will lose the ability to make books with a company called  BLURB.
You will also miss the headaches and the issues, the slowness and the frustrations.
Why not use LR4 for all your new images? rather than importing all your old images from LR3.X catalogs?
There is a great deal of info on ways to reduce the lags, the issues, the slowness. YES some are workarounds, some are / rather should be unncessary, but they DO work.
I have catalogs on USB 2 drives. They work, but I'm mostly adding new images to these and I can cope with some slowness, fortunately I'm either very lucky with my laptop having very few issues.
I restart LR4 on my laptop every hour or so. So what it takes 30 seconds. I lose that every 2 edits, so its not a realistic issue. Its a FXKNG PITA that LR4 does not work properly, but fill in the bug reports on their get satisfaction forum.
This was posted 2-3 weeks ago on the bug forum http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lr4_0_reacts_ext remely_slow  but why it was not posted on here is totally beyond me. Whoever is doing LR4's marketing and social awareness is in need of a new job as a prison janitor as they are not communicating with their public.
I've been asking questions on Twitter and facebook, and posting comments - fair, but honest, and I'd recommend making noise on twitter / facebook / Google + as this is where comments will get noticed, they can't shut down threads or delete comments.
All that negativity and educated derisement will cause them more pain in the real world. This is where voices are heard and companies have to listen, or mud does stick.
Make comments on twitter using the hash tag #lightroom #LR4, you can also put these on Facebook messsages, google+ and Linkedin.
All these really make a very very strong impression on companies, they should listen to social networking and if they dont, they are so 20C.
LR 4 will get sorted, it seems to be 2 main issues - dual displays and over enthusiastic disk access - for some reason more prevalent on certain drives - whether SSD or not, I'm uncertain.
Til then, if you are going back, use your LR4 catalog for the stufff you've edited in LR4 - why not export all the most recent stuff as a new catalog and use that when you need to, and go back to the backup LR3.X catalog that was generated when you upgraded to LR4
least you can cope with the slowness of those images you worked on in LR4, but have your main catalog as LR3.x
Good luck and I hope this helped.
Everyone else, on twitter, follow #lightroom and see the noise there, and those with issues, post positive, fair but DAMMING comments so #adobe #takeNOTE and #listen to the #disenfranshised

I know any device could malfucntion but if it costs $40,000 to buy you could at least warn someone of the possible malfuctions. It makes the company look bad when a large amount of your devices act up and you "cant help them" if they dont pay extra. Im just saying.
Sorry but that makes no sense at all.  How can they possible know what things will possible malfunction on your device?  Anything that they think is highly likely to malfunction they would have addressed in desiging and manufacturing the device in the first place, during development.  They've made and sold many millions of iPhones, and many of them have lasted years without any problems (I know, I've owned such iPhones personally).  So how could they possible know if yours was any more likely to develop any issues than any of those other trouble free ones?
It's hardware - stuff sometimes breaks randomly.  No amout of money ever guarantees or even reduces the likelyhood of random product failures.
Take it in to Apple and see about getting it fixed.

What does error 1015 mean when restoring my Iphone 3G?

    As easily found by googling:
    Errors related to downgrading iOS
The required resource cannot be found: This alert message occurs when your device has a newer version of iOS than what is available in iTunes. When troubleshooting a device that presents this alert message, go to Settings > General > About and check the version of iOS on the device. If it is newer than the latest released iOS version, the device may have a prerelease developer version of iOS installed.   Installing an older version of iOS over a newer version is not supported.
Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.
In summary: your phone is likely jailbroken. If so, there is no more support available on these forums.

I upgrade my iPhone 5 from ios 7.1 to 7.1.1.
When it finished I wanted to restore with my backup but iTunes says that it can't because incompatible or corrupted.
What can I do then to restore my iPhone?

Backups are only used for restoring iPhones via iTunes.
If you desire to go about another method for extracting data from a backup, use google to find out how (if possible) to make that happen.

  • What will I lose when I update my iPod?

I have a 2nd generation iPod touch, and it hasn't been updated for a long time. I want to update it now but I don't have a current iTunes for it because the old iTunes was in my computer that is now broken. I have an iPod shuffle with an iTunes library now in my new computer. If I connect my iPod touch with the iTunes, will I lose all my music? Will I also lose all my Notes in my iPod touch (I have ALOT of notes on there that are special..)? I want to update my iPod touch so i could download some apps that require iOS 4.0. The version of my iPod touch is 3.1.3 (7E18). What can I do to update my iPod without losing everything? I mean its fine if I lose my music (i don't have much on there) but I need my notes. Thanks for helping.

If you really have a 2G iPod you can go as far as 4.2.1.  To identify your iPod See:
    Identifying iPod models
I am asking this since a 1G iPod can only go to 3.1.3.
To resolve your broken computer issue:
    - Transfer iTunes purchase by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from tha tbackup.  This will also update the iPod if you have a 2G iPod.

  • Syncing to a new computer: What will I lose?

Hello, and thanks for any help in advance.
I'm biting the bullet and syncing my phone to a new computer so that I can continue to add music and such to it via iTunes. I want to know what I should expect to lose in the process, since I can't seem to find a straightforward answer...
I realize I'll lose all of my music on the phone. What else, though? Will my contacts disappear too? I'm assuming the synced photos will be gone as well. I ran a back up, but I'm not sure what that does, exactly. What about my text message and call history?
I'm just looking to find out what I'll lose and what will still be on the phone after this process is done, so that I know now whether or not I need to figure out a way to save the data I may lose.

Before you sync to the new computer, just copy all the tunes from your old computer to the new one and build playlists on the new one. Copy your contact info and calendar info as well. Photos too, if you sync them. Then when you sync your phone to the new computer, tell it to sync the new playlists, and the contacts and calendar. At the end of the sync, you'll have all the stuff you had before -- no need to lose anything at all.
