What will I notice with more RAM? or FCE HD?

Right now FCE2 seems to be laboring between tasks. Since I just upgraded to the intel it is kind of a disappointment because my g4 Ibook never blinked (at all)... I like the new mac but seems like the old one handled more with less processor and same ram... Is it the older FCE2 or do I need more RAM? Would like to get dialed in for performance... so I can get more work done...

FCE2 is running under Rosetta. Since it is not a Universal Binary program it will not work as well as FCE3. 512 Mb ram is not much even for running FCE3. You would get better performance with more RAM. RAM is very cheap right now, I paid $39.00 US for a 1 GB stick recently. More RAM would help your FCE2 run better. You would also find it improves a lot of other things on your Mac.

The specs, on the web site say that the  max memory supported is 3GB DDR2 because the notebook was built with the OS Vista(32 bit) installed so that’s why the manual has the 3 GB max. memory supported limit. The 32 bit OS can’t address memory over 3.12 GB.   To my mind that is not a spec. but rather a tech. writer who made a mistake and copied the sales literature.  With Windows 7(64 bit) Pro. installed the OS can address up to192GB of memory if the system supports it.  Other Compaq and HP Notebooks can deal with 8GB of memory installed. That’s why I would think HP’s could easily fix this with a patch or use one of their other BIOS’s.
The difference between 4GB and 6GB is that with 6GB system runs faster and the display quality has improved.  I have set the cache size to large and the executive paging is set to off in the registry. The menu(System Properties - Performance Options – Advanced – Virtual Memory) is set to automatically manage the paging file size.

You should keep it in the original; thread you started.

  • What will I do with the SQL Server (2012/2014) (Standard/Enterprise) Licenses?

What will I do with the SQL Server (2012/2014) (Standard/Enterprise) Licenses?
Are these the same as software product keys, or just some pieces of paper the company needs to have on hand?
In which case, when we install SQL Server 2014, (and when looked for videos) - there is only 1 product key value to be put in, is there some other screen in the setup to input the License bought ( in our case will be Core licenses).
So in addition to the Core Licenses do will a Product key be needed? Would product key from an msdn work, as it is the licenses that we will buy to indicate that we bought to run the software on server X?
    Thanks for any indications.

I will answer your question point wise
    1. Keeping license key is good idea it helps you during audit and you have proof that you are using a valid Microsoft License. Plus in scenario of disaster where whole box gets damanged you might need to install SQL Server again in that case during
reinstallation on setup page where you need to enter key you might need need it. If you are missing your paper then you are in trouble.
    2. Only on product key page license key is required and it is not required anywhere else during installation. Unless you enter valid product key installation will not proceed further.
3 License makes you a valid owner of Microsoft product with restrictions on how much hardware resource you can use how much max connections you can make etc. Key lets you install it on Windows machine making sure that you are using valid Microsoft product.
This was just a general idea please speak to your licensing specialist for more details. This is technical forum and we generally ask user to speak to licensing expert for such queries.

My iPhone 5 keeps resetting itself, If I take my device in to apple what will they do and more importantly what will it cost me???

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

if that dose not work then you can always put it into DFU mode by connecting to your computer and holding down the home button and sleep/wake button for excatly 10 seconds and then relesing the sleep/wake button and keep holding down the homebutton till iTunes tells you it has detected an iPad in recovery mode then just do a restore

    Property Changed:
    flex/sdk/branches/gumbo_alpha/

It looks more cumbersome as every change will have to be executed 2 times. Which is not only more inefficient, but also more error prone.
So more reliable for the changes you wanted to make? I don't think so.
You should use the pfile as a backup only and start using the spfile.
    This has several advantages
    - You can change dynamic parameters both in memory and in the spfile at the same time, using the 'scope=both' clause of the alter system command
    - You can change static parameters by using the 'scope=spfile' clause without having to shell out to the OS to edit the pfile
    - You can restart the database from anywhere, so also from database control
    - The spfile will be included automatically in your RMAN backup, so you won't loose it in the event of disaster,
You can easily conver the spfile to a pfile by using the create pfile from spfile command.
All of this is, of course, described in the Fabulous Manual.

  • What will happen if i upgrade ram to 4GB which is more than system spec....

    Hi,
I have a macbook with following specs:
    core 2 Duo
    1 Gb stock ram 667MHZ DDR2
    Model No: A1181
    Part No: MB061X/A
i have found that my macbook only support total of 2GB memory with 1GB memory at each module. i was just wandering what will happen if i put 4GB (2 x 2GB sticks) memory kit in my macbook.
At some forums i have found that it may support upto 3 or 3.3GB memory but will putting extra memory have any kind of negative effect ???
and does any one know what is the supported memory limit of my macbook ???
    Cheers,

got 1 more question.... If i'll put 2 x 2GB RAM then still i'll be utilizing the dual channel ??? though only 3GB memory is being used by the system....
I'll start by saying that I've read Intel's chipset datasheets, including their sections on memory controllers, dual-channel, memory speeds, etc. With Intel's memory controller chipsets, they don't access two modules in parallel as an effectively doubled-width data bus. They still only perform read/writes data one module at a time. What you might get with "dual channel" operation is that it can get a small head-start when "ping-ponging" from one module to the other. It anticipates when it will be over, and will start off the other module to get a head start on the latency before data is available. Overall the advantage is small. In fact, Intel does do this when the memory modules aren't even matched for size - they call this "Dual Channel Asymmetric". It's supposed to perform dual-channel up to the high address of the smaller module. If you match sizes (doesn't even have to be identical modules or even speeds) Intel calls this "Dual Channel Interleaved", with the advantage throughout the entire address range.
For your application, some benchmarks suggest a small increase in graphics performance. However - having more memory almost always wins out over trying to achieve "dual channel". Check these tests:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/MacbookMemoryBenchmarks
n if RAM meets the specs of my macbook it won't panic kernel ???
Not likely although poor quality memory could do that when it reaches marginal conditions (i.e. high heat).

  • Imovie Export Time Better with More RAM ?

I have an Imac, one before latest release, 3.06 CPU and 2 Gig RAM. A 17 minute video is exporting right now using H.264 and 1920 x 1080 settings and Imovie is telling me that it will take 3 hours. Also, the source video and the exported file are both on an exernal firewire drive (which I know was a mistake).
Question, if I installed 2 gigs more RAM, would it make a big difference ?

I'm a strong advocate for maximizing RAM, but It won't shave that much time of the processing. It still takes a long time to process hd. You will feel the RAM while you work and use multiple applications. It will take out the lag. However, becareful on choosing the RAM. A friend of mine went a really inexpensive route and wound up with conflicts and problems. Its not worth the dollar savings...

  • What will I lose with a factory reset?

I used to love my S5 but lollipop has made me want to throw it thru a window. A fully charged battery does not last thru the night not being used (with all apps closed). The  Android OS and Android System are using the battery with a few other things using single digit percentage. It is also slow to respond and frequently get pop-ups that contacts or other things have stopped responding. It overheats and shuts down when not in use.
I tried following the steps to clear the cache (Power, volume up, home) but it just keeps going from the screen with the white Samsung Galaxy S5 to the one with the Samsung rainbow logo then back to the white one. I tried volume down, power, home and get a screen about installing a custom OS.
So as a last resort what will I lose if I do a factory reset and has anybody had that actually help because I have seen posts that it didn't.

It may or may not help, but can't hurt to try.  It will reset your phone back to a factory fresh (with Lollipop) activated state.  All account information and apps you have installed will be gone.  If you are logged and synced to google prior to the reset (check in settings under accounts selected google account and make sure everything has synced successfully).  When you log back into your google account it will bring back most of your settings, apps and contacts etc.  If you have installed any apps that store local data they will be as though they were fresh installed with all data cleared.  You can also use Verizon cloud or Samsung to backup things such as contacts, messages, pictures, music.
Your SD card will remain untouched so if you have one and pictures and music are on there they will remain.
If you don't have an SD card make sure your pictures and music have been backed up somewhere as well.

  • Can you start Illustrator CC2014 with more RAM?

I am using Illustrator to edit very large SVG files (>150MB), and the software is extremely slow and stops responding periodically, while it (slowly, slowly) acquires more RAM. Is there a way to start Illustrator with a larger amount of RAM, e.g. 8 or 16 GB?
I'm working on a MacPro with 32 GB of RAM, two 6-core processors, an NVIDIA Quadro K5000 video card (4GB RAM) and tons of free disc space. It's very frustrating to see Illustrator not taking advantage of the available machine resources! I scoured the web for solutions and came up empty-handed.... Any tips?

There is nothing you can do. Even if you could assign a fixed memory range, the program would still need to load the objects one by one and render them, so it actualyl doesn't even make sense to think of it that way...

  • What will i do with the router?

what will i do now? how do i connect?

If you have a wireless internet connection, which i am assuming you do, there should be some sort of RJ45 jack on the back. It looks like a telephone jack, only wider. Plug your router into this. You may also need to hookup things such as power cable. See the documentation that came with your router. There will also be some setup steps you need to do to get it running. See your manual, or CD-Rom for this.

  • My Airport is USELESS with Snow Leopard..What will it be with Lion?

    Mr Jobs,
Like you would every get this . I am super annoyed
wth Snow Leopard.I ususally wait for the second to last or
last version of an OS before I upgrade. The reason is
simple, my Apple computer has worked fine, I didn't
have any big need to upgrade and though I want to stay up to
date I hate to fix something that "ain't broken.:" Well
Snow Leopard has screwed up my MacBook Pro big time. My
trusty MacBook Pro 17 (old core duo) has paid the rent for
    since day one.
I am a Shooter/Director and need my laptop to work. I am a
more than adequate FCS editor. Snow Leopard has sent me
into a spin! My airport is useless. There is no simple
path to older software so though I may be 60 years old I
still need to use tools I have used or at least be offered
the option of moving forward to new ones. It is NOT YTOUR
    style.
I am writing this from my old G5, edit suite.  My MacBook Pro 17 is not able to connect to my Airport. My sister-in-law is in the next room with her MacBook Pro (same year as mine but 15") and on lien skype-ing and chatting and surfing. I can connect for more than 30 seconds and my "update software" is at the top of the chain. *****! I will be re-formating my hard drive and going back to Leopard SANS SNOW tomorrow! And folks spare me the silly advice.  If you buy an OS and install it and do the upgrades , it should work. That is what Apple is about. That is why I have bought and used Apple since DAY One.  I sold my TI and Commodore when I saw an Apple!
I know you will NEVER read this, but I needed to vent.
If you do, I will super happy to hear you did, you are well
and that you have passed it down the line.
Stay well and with us for a long time and all the great
    innovations!
    Best
    Brian Murphy

If I had a nickel for every time I saw someone blame a system update for something silly, I'd be quite rich by now.  If you believe reports on public forums, every release of Mac OS X has been the worst ever, which is obviously not true to anyone who has actually used all those systems.  So, while there may be a lot of people reporting wireless problems with SL, that does not make it fact that the cause of the problem is SL.  Fact: I have not seen wireless problems with any Macs running SL.
But, you seem not interested in listening to such things.  You know that it's SL's fault.  So there's really no solution for you but to revert to Leopard.  If you're interested in getting things working with SL, as I said, post back on a different topic with details.  (Since you started this topic with a bit of a rant, it's going to be difficult for you to get help on this topic.)

  • Should I buy a new laptop? Or fix it with more RAM?

    Dear all,
After a few years (since mid 2009) of happy relationship with my Macbook Pro, the last year I have noticed a severe decline in speed in all applications as well as a lot of apps crashing or not responding regulary. Me and my laptop have survived this long thanks to this forum where I am usually able to find solutions to various problems and by experimenting with  "home fixes", despite my lack of technical knowledge.
I live abroad in a country without access to proper computor service centers etc, however I am visiting Europe next week and I need to take the decision on whether it is worth fixing my laptop or if the best option sis just to buy a new one.
After my attempts to troubleshoot and after reading up on this forum I am suspecting that the cause of the problems might have something to do with RAM or the proccessor. I do run a lot of heavy apps such as photoshop, premier pro, indesign, firefox, lightroom etc. I have always been able to work efficiently while having several apps running at the same time (for example firefox, word, indesign and photoshop) however since a while back i can't run more than 1-2 apps at the same time without the computer crashing or getting paralysed. The beach ball is spinning for minutes after each click which is very frustrating when working with details in for example photoshop. I have tried to clean up the computor with Onyx a few weeks ago which I think improved it a little bit. My 500GB harddisk is less than half full.
I would really appreciate your advise on my options of fixing the issue or just buying a new computer. Below are some details about my laptop.
    Millions of thanks in advance!
    Best,
    Hanna

I think 8G of memory may be good enough to run Adobe suite and Office.
No, there is no such risk.
Following shop has memory you need, though if you think you couldn't hadle to upgrade RAM, take it to Apple Store's Genius Bar to ask about upgrading RAM.

  • MSI GX620 with more ram

It appears that the laptop cuts off 4GB of RAM as the max. I want more. And I mean, with two instances of Visual Studio open, 30 firefox tabs, music player, and VirtualBox running at the same time, 4GB is just not enough.
It is possible to do a hardware mod to achieve at least 8GB (yes, warranty void bla bla bla). Or are there plans to release BIOS that will support bigger memory scope?
    Thanks.

Quote from: Crypton on 30-July-09, 01:14:24
So this is a hardware limitation? Is there a motherboard upgrade for example?
You cannot upgrade laptops in the same way that you can upgrade desktop PCs. The limitation is in the motherboard chipset, if you knew you would need more memory before you purchased your notebook you should really have checked the specs before you bought it. Maybe a laptop is not really suited to your needs after all.

  • Syncing to windows 7, but what will it sync with?

since I got my iPhone I've been using my eMac to sync the data off it.
but there is a problem, I think that it won't be that long before an update for iOS will make that eMac unable to be used to sync with the iPhone, and probably even unable to update the iPhone to that version of iOS.
my laptop runs Windows 7, so I think it'll be a while before the same will happen for my laptop, but I can only sync with one computer, so I'm thinking about transferring all data to the laptop and sync from there.
now I have one problem, if I'd let it sync with windows, what programs will it sync the data to?
obviously music, video's and apps are synced to iTunes and I know how to get that data on my laptop, but what about the data that syncs to other apps?
like email accounts, contacts, calendars, and so on.
currently my contacts and calendars are both on a GMail account, I want to keep those synced to Gmail, and though GMail with the eMac (ical and Address Book both sync on their own though the web).
as far as I know, they sync directly over the web from the iPhone, meaning that if I edit something, it will also be as such on the web in GMail and Google Calender, but will it keep doing so? and if so, where do I find the data on my laptop in windows.

With Windows, you can sync contacts, calendar events, and notes with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010. Not sure if Outlook includes the same option for syncing your Google contacts and calendar events as you are doing now with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac, but it should.
