What will Open an RTF?

I have an old WordPerfect file I converted to a rich text file. My new Macbook says it can't open it so I downloaded Abiword and it won't open it either. How can I get that file to open?

It sounds like there is something strange about that RTF file. Almost any word processor should open it - Pages, TextEdit, Word, AppleWorks, etc., etc. Does it have the .rtf extension on the file name? OS X can be very picky about that.
It might take an older version of a program that you might not be able to run on your MacBook. If you'd like, you may send the file to me & I'll see what I have that might work. I have a few older Macs that can run Classic & even my PowerBook 1400 is currently up & running OS 8.6.

What will open an old Claris Works database file?

I have a MacBookPro with iWorks and OfficeMac (no Access). I've been maintaining a database on my old G3 uwing Claris Works and OS 9.2.2. I copied this database onto my new MacBook from a CD I burned on my G3 so I can continue maintaining it, but I have nothing that will open it.
Will AppleWorks open it, and if so, what version, and where can I get it? I REALLY don't want to do this database over again!
I'm probably at fault for not buying new Macs with new software more frequently.

There really isn't any other program that can open a ClarisWorks or AppleWorks database. Once it is open, it could be saved as ASCII or plain text & imported into a spreadsheet.
What version of ClarisWorks did you use when you last saved that database? I'd suggest getting AppleWorks 6 which will run very well on your MacBook Pro, but there is a problem with the most current version, 6.2.9, & opening ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files. It gives an I/O error. There doesn't appear to be a way to predict which files will cause problems. I've had it happen & not happen with all ClarisWorks file types. These files can be opened by any other version of AppleWorks 6, so a good choice would be AppleWorks 6.2.4. AppleWorks 6.2.4 is the earliest version stable in OS X. AppleWorks 6.2.7 will work, but I always recommend avoiding it it at all possible - very, very, very buggy! Hardcore Mac is selling AppleWorks 6.2.4 for a reasonable price. You also can sometimes find AppleWorks 6 on eBay, but it might be difficult to be sure it's no newer than 6.2.4 and has an OS X-aware installer (AppleWorks 6.2 or later).

Having trouble opening different files. What will open files

I want to clean out my libraries. I have a lot of different items I have downloaded over time. First I don't know all the different file types. In trying to open each item?, file?, or whatever, a lot of them won't open. The options that always open up for me to choose to open with are Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Media Center, Windows Photo Viewer, Word Pad, Windows Live Photo Gallery, and Open Office. Is there anything that opens different types of files? I can't download a program for each file type plus every thing you download brings things with it that mess up your computer. I would really like to know what each item in my library is so I can either keep it, delete it, print it, or what ever. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You are not in the Safe Mode, you are in the Offline Mode. I don't know what OS are you on since it doesn't show in your system details:
If you see a Firefox icon, click on it and then go to:
File > UNCHECK the Offline Mode
If you have a Menu Bar instead, do the same.

What will open CorelDraw X4 files?

I have CorelDraw X4 files in the .cdr format created on a PC. Is there a way to open these files on a Mac? Many of them are scanned images that I mereIy need to view and perhaps print. I may not actually need to edit them. Thank you very much for any help.

I recently downloaded the newer version of FF and now when i click to open it i am getting an error in the top left corner of my screen. i can't even read what the message says in entirety b/c it's wrapping over off the side of the screen. When I click the error message than FF will open. Also, when I'm trying to send emails from an online shopping cart thru my business and I'm getting an error that it won't send and that's never happened until this problem w/FF. Please tell me what i should to to get FF working normally again.

Can you tell us what text is in the part that you can read ?
Is it a message from Firefox or from the Mac Operating System ?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

"Some users have reported" is a mild way to put it. To answer your question "or is the software just not as good as 4.3?" more directly... it's only better in transparency between platforms. Oh, one other improvement- it DOES run faster, but then of course it would since it's so much more lightweight.

It's not specific sites. I can middle-click on the same link 50 times and it will open it in a new tab 45 times and 5 of those times, it will randomly open it in an entirely new window. I don't know what's causing this.

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

have you tried to reset it? hold down the sleep and home key until the silver apple comes up. Let it restart. It's the equivalent of 'control-alt-delete' and sometimes fixes glitches.
