What wireless infrastructure needs to be available to share photos using iPhoto Beam?

I'm taking the kids to visit granma. Granma has no wifi in her house (and onyl dial up internet). I want teh kids to be able to shoot photos on their iPhones and beam them to me on my iPad using iPhoto's Beam capability.
Option #1 - If I take an Airport Express to granma's, can I simply plug it in and will this give me sufficent infrastructure to have iPhoto Beam work among my iDevices?
Option #2 - Alternatively, can I use the Personal Hot Spot functionality of my iPad to set up a wifi network and will this give me sufficent infrastructure to have iPhoto Beam work among my iDevices?
Option #3 - Does anyone know of a battery powered wifi device that I could use to make this work?
I'm looking for quick and easy.

To beam photos with iPhoto for iOS you need two iOS devices both running iPhoto for iOS. You can beam using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. If the location does not have Wi-Fi use the Bluetooth option.

I purchased Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection Design Across Media Upgrade for Windows at a business closing.  What do I need to find out before I can use it?

I couldn't tell you what you purchased, and it might even be difficult for an Adobe employee to do so.  The business could have a few options as far as what they might have purchased.
Your best bet, considering what little you paid, will be to hand it over to someone you might sell it to and let them try it out.  If it works, then it works.

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto.  I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them.  I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows.  I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years.  Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge.  180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive.  For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge.  The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows.  What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient.  If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward.  However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto.  In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases.  If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated.  I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.

Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide.

  • How does one print single photos using iPhoto. I keep getting an error message:No Available Themes

How does one print single photos using iPhoto. I keep getting an error message:No Available Themes

You need to reinstall iPhoto. To reinstall iPhoto delete the current application and, on all Macs with Snow Leopard or earlier installed, all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the:
    HD/Library/Receipts folder (10.5 and earlier)
    or from the /var/db/receipts/  folder (10.6) .
Deleting receipts is not necessary if your Mac came with Lion or later preinstalled.
Then install iPhoto from the source it came from originally.

What are the best ways to share photos from iPhoto?

If you use Adobe Photoshop, or even Adobe Photoshop Elements, stay as far away from iPhoto as possible.
iPhoto does not play nice with Adobe software or with software from any other third party developer.
iPhoto will hide your image files in a library paradigm where you have no access to them other than through iPhoto.

  • Need help - can't import some photos into iPhoto - getting error msg

I have a lot of photos on my computer. Most of them are in my iPhoto, but I can't seem to load all of the photos in there and integrate them al. I am getting an error message. The jist of the message is that they are unreadable and that they cannot be imported. The photos are jpegs. I am kind of at a loss as to why these photos are not getting imported.
Does it have anything to do with where the photos were taken from? What I mean is that when I have current photos on the camera, they will go directly to iPhoto. What about the ones that are copied to my hard drive from another computer? Those I can't seem to integrate into my library. An suggestions? Thanks.

    whatsupdut?
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Are these troublesome files in the iPhoto Library Folder? Are you putting files in there hoping to see them in iPhoto?
iPhoto is a database, the images have to be imported (File -> Add to Library) before they can be seen. Also, as a precaution against duplication, iPhoto will not import pics from the iPhoto Library Folder, so move them out to the desktop and then import them.

  • Need to change time on some photos in iPhoto

Hi- I have no real experience with automator, but I think it could help me out here.
I have 1500 photos taken on a 2 week trip. I am going to put the best of them together as a slide show. The photos were taken with 5 different peoples cameras and none of the cameras were set to the same time. I would like to change the times on the photos data so that the photos will sort correctly for easy comparison. (often, all 5 people were shooting the same thing at almost the same time...) I can change the times individually in iPhoto, but that's a lot of work. 3 of the cameras are off by whole hour incriments (due to time zone varitations).
Is there a way to: select a group of photos in iPhoto, add/ subtract to the hour taken (but leave the minutes and seconds alone)?
thanks in advance for any help

I emailed this question to a friend, he told me automator is "overkill" (his words) for this situation as a script will do the job. He also sent this link: http://www.joemaller.com/iphoto/

hello     when I try to send photos using the iphoto  a window comes up to tell me that my email server didn't rercognize user name /password  how do i correct this .. as i have cganged my email address  but i can't get rid of the old  one    thank you   marie

    Hi Cody\'sgirl,
If you are having issues emailing photos directly from iPhoto, you may want to double check the email account information that is set in iPhoto. You may find the following article helpful (the section below is about setting up a new account, but it should be the same location to check existing account info):
To set up a Photo Mail account:
Choose iPhoto > Preferences, and then click Accounts. If you’re in full-screen view, move your pointer to the top of the screen to make the menu bar appear.
Click the Add button in the lower-left corner.
Click Email, and then click Add.
Choose your email service provider. If your service provider isn’t listed, choose Other.
Type the requested information. If you use the Mail application included with OS X, some account information might be filled in already. If you’re not sure what to type, contact your service provider.
You can set up more than one Photo Mail account by repeating these steps for each account. When you send an email, you can change the outgoing account by clicking the From pop-up menu and choosing an account.

  • What wireless port needs to be allowed through in the firewall to allow printing in Win 7?

I have a Selphy CP910 and the only way that i can get it to print wirelessly in Win 7 is to disable my Windows firewall and Windows Defender.
What specific ports do I have to allow through on the firewall to all wireless printing without totally disabling the firewall?

    Hi rpavich,
The SELPHY CP910 uses the following ports:
    80, 9100 and 8611
Allowing these through your firewall should allow you to print  without disabling it.

    Greetings all,
I just got an iPhone 1 gen off of eBay. It will be for my wife in Cancun, Mexico but its only an AT&T carrier, and I need to be able to have other carrier services since AT&T is not available there.  How....what steps must I do in order to be able to service the phone through other carriers?
    anyone......thanks!

They won't unlock it....why would they? I'm tech savvy with android OS but not with Apple.  I know I must unlock it but am not sure how to carrier unlock it without errors.
*** mind you...it's gonna be used in Mexico...no AT&T service there....

  • What do I need to do to be able to use the iTunes Store?

I have created an apple ID and verified both my primary email and the rescue email. I want to use this apple id for my new ipad mini but every time I try to sign in on iTunes, both on my laptop and on the ipad mini, it says that this apple id hasn't been used with the iTunes store and to review my account information. What am I supposed to be doing here?

How did you create the account, and have you put payment details on the account ? Unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store - you should be able to remove them after entering them
Or you could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you review your account via your computer's iTunes without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054#24303054
