What wireless router is compatible with Mac OS X 10.8.1?

I just purchased a new cisco Linksys wireless router that is not compatible with OS X 10.8.1.  Which routers ARE compatible, besides the Apple AirPorts?

Your Linksys router should be compatible, however the firmware might need updating once you get online.
Your router will have an IP address in the ranges 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.1.-
Connect your router to your Mac via Ethernet cable (They usually supply one with the router and don't worry which end goes where the Mac LAN socket is bi-directional)
Also connect your router to your telephone line - Its likely you have an ADSL service because if you have a cable service they provide a modem normally.
Now open your Web browser (Safari is the only one installed be default) . Type in the IP address and a Javascript control panel will launch
Enter the default password and username (They are on a label on the router )
Your now have the ability to set up your router.
Your will need the password and user name supplied to you by your ISP at a minimum.
Enter these and most modern routers automatically configure the basic networking setting.
You now need to go to the security setting and set this as WPA2 Personal (NOT Enterprise) or WPA2 with AES and TKIP which ever it refers to and create a pass-phase. WRITE it down
You should be online.
Your router may need a firmware update LInksys units usually do but that is a different and long story for a separate thread.
Personal experiences with Linksys routers in the Mac evironment are not so good and they have tended to get hot lock up or fall over from time to time resulting a hard reboot being necessary.
To-date the very best and most stable performance has been with an Airport Extreme/Time capsule connected to a cable modem.
Regrettably you still need a separate modem to use this with ADSL services.
Shootist007 the fact that Apple use a separate full application (Actually two are available at the moment 5.6 for enterprice and 6.1 for home networking) gives direct control rather than relying on javascript and firmware errors.
Its actually a better solution

What video cameras are compatible with mac computers without having to download software?

Did you try connecting your camera to the computer USB port via the supplied USB interface cable instead of plugging in the SD card directly?
No driver is needed to connect your computer to your camera.

Regardless of whether or not you 'like' downloading and installing software on your computer, Canon DOES HAVE software available for your specific camera and it IS compatible with recent versions of the Mac OS X operating system. Maybe try that instead of whining here about it not being compatible.

  • What video files are compatible with mac?

I am trying to download videos and movies, which file formats are compatible with mac?

Some types of AVIs and all protected WMA and WMV files aren't. If the component needed to open a movie isn't clear, the free MPEG Streamclip will reveal what it is or if it's possible at all.

  • What external drives are compatible with mac g5  osx 10.5.8?

Hello,  I have a Mac g5 osx 10.5.8 and I am trying to copy the DVDs for motu's Mach Five2 to an external harddrive.  I had everything copied to a La Cie external harddrive, but it seems not to be working any more, so I got a Toshiba Canvio 3.0, version 1 tb and then version 1.5 tb, but the DVDs I mentioned won't copy to it.  I get error messages of either 0 or -36, which seems to mean that there is not enough space on the Toshiba external harddrive.  The Toshiba has a 500 GB capacity, and the DVD I am trying to copy is 83.3 GB, so I don't see what the problem might be.  I have gotten replacement dvds from motu, tried and exchanged the Toshiba, used disk utilities from the Mac, and checked all cables and connections, talked to motu technical support and the people who sold me the Toshiba, but nothing seems to work.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  They would be much appreciated.  Thanks, OJ

These are my #1 choice for desktop Macs regardless of processor type. One with FireWire is great for PPC Macs:

Too many "on sale every day" name-brand externals at the local office stuporstore are so Windows-centric that they are often ill-behaved on Macs. I even had a WD external marketed as "Mac Edition" that was nothing but trouble. I tore open the WD enclosure, rescued the decent drive inside, and put it in an enclosure with USB2 and FW800 from the family of units I linked above. Works perfectly now.

  • What external burners are compatible with mac

I have an io magic idvd16DDBB external dvd burner.
It works some of the time, but sometimes it just won't recognize the disk. I have tried patch & burn, but it does not seem to cut it. Does anyone know why this is such a problem?
Also does anyone know a good place where I can find listings of drives/devices that work on mac.
I called appple care, and they don't have much to offer.
This brings up the question, why does apple not have a nice user friendly lists on their site that give information on third party hardware that works with the mac. To me there is no excuse for this, and as much as I like apple, I think they need to get their act togethor!

    XLR8yourmac.com has a very large user-supported database.
Check it out. There is a ton of stuff there and you can search by many different variables.

  • What wireless router would be good to use with OS 10 Lion at home?

I have a Mac Book Pro with Leapard and I just recently purchaced a iMac with Lion. I want to set up a wireless network with my provider, in my house. What wireless router should I use that is compatable with Lion OS?

Virtually any modern wireless router that has its latest Firmware updates should work fine.  I myself have been extremely pleased with my Apple Airport Extreme wireless router, but spending that much money is not necessary.
    Hope this helps

  • What wireless router works with this OS?

i have bought 2 different routers that are not compatible with this OS...anyone know what wireless router i can buy that will work with OS X Mountain Lion?

"Cisco Connect" seems to be support software which Cicso may not have updated for Mountain Lion. (It's hard to tell from the Cisco forums.)
Supposedly, many of the functions on Cisco routers can be controlled through the web interface.
Support software aside, jdcastaldo is right that the actual routing and wifi functions should be independent of the operating system of the clients.
