What word format understands Pages best?
Hi there! When I want to share documents between Word 2010 and Pages on iPad and Macbook Pro etc., what format is best so all formations are kept and stay the same back and forth? Is that even possible? I know I shall use fonts which both programs have, but maybe there is a best export format for that.

You have no choice, Pages just saves to the one .doc format and that is it.

What file format does Pages use?
Allow me to explain:
I have recently downloaded Scrivener and it tells me that I cannot use the Pages documents which I have started because it doesn't accept the file format and that Pages is peculiar to Apple. I would like to use Scrivener to work on my documents as a research tool and somewhere to organise my stuff. I then want to take the end result to Pages for further reading and editing.
At the moment I have downloaded Scrivener onto a Macbook Air and Pro. Both are running Pages and Mavericks.You have to use the export menu in Pages to create a format that Scrivener can read, like .doc. Pages can then also read .doc format you export from Scrivener. But translating between formats often results in unwanted changes, so your proposed work flow could turn out to be messy and impractical. If you have to work in .doc, probably best to just use Word or OpenOffice.

Formatting from Pages to Word- Headers
I'm trying to format my Pages 09 document into a Word format and can't figure out the headers. I want to include name, title and automatic page number on each page, except for the cover (first) page. It seems my previous Pages settings are not allowing this? Can anyone help?

Here is how to achieve what you want:
*First so that you can see what is happening:*
+Menu > View > Page Thumbnails/Show Styles Drawer/Show Layout/Show Invisibles/Rulers+
You can turn these off later by doing the same in reverse: +Hide Layout/Hide Invisibles+ etc.
*Click at the foot of the first page:*
+Inspector > Document > Documents > Document margins > Uncheck Headers and Footers+
+Menu > Insert > Section break+
*Click at the top of the 2nd page and delete any unwanted returns:*
+Inspector > Document > Documents > Document margins > Check Headers+
+Inspector > Layout > Section > Page Numbers > uncheck Continue from previous section/check Start at > "1"+
+Inspector > Layout > Section > Configuration > Uncheck First Page is different/ Check use previous Headers and Footers (because you will want this to run right through the document)+
Click in the Header (the skinny box at the top of the page) and set up tabs.
Click in the middle of the Ruler and a tab will appear. By default it is a left tab. Right mouse Click on the tab and choose the centre tab (a diamond).
Click in the right side of the Ruler a little in from the right margin. Right mouse Click on the tab and choose the right tab (a triangle pointing in to the left).
Click in the Header and type your Name (tab) The Title Tab (tab) +Menu > Insert > Auto Page Numbers…+
Select everything in the Header and make it a small font of your choice so that it fits.
*To help with your general formatting.*
You should use Styles by fixing the Header1 style the way you like it including:
+Inspector > Text > Text > Spacing > After Paragraph > 58pts+ No more need to add multiple returns after.
With the Header text selected, click on the red arrow next to the Header1 style (highlighted) in the *Styles Drawer* and choose *Redefine Style from Selection* .
Click in the body type and slide the flat blue bar to the left a bit more, this sets your first line indent and you won't need to type a tab at the start of paragraphs. Redefine this as your Body style Currently everything is in your Header style.

Since the OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 update to my iMac (27 inch, Mid 2010) , I can no longer "share" a document from Pages in word format via email. It can be sent as an att but then as "Pages" cannot be accessed by a non apple receiver. Please what is the answer, the old method was fast, simple and efficient.
Out of my depth appreciate some help.Are you using the File > Export function? It will deposit a Word document onto your desktop (or any folder you choose) and then you can attach it to your email.

People are always getting it wrong.
Tell us the actual version number:
Menu > Pages > About Pages
Can you select the footer? And what is in the footer?
Sometimes Word has these things in separte textboxes under other things and you need to lassoo them to get rid of them.

I want to use my ipad to display song lyrics. I have all the lyrics on my computer in Word format and want to know the easiest way to convert them to my ipad and what apps I should use.
I would just leave them in Word...GR reads many formats very easily.
If our goal is to work on/edit the files it may be useful to look into something like Pages if you have a Mac, and the Pages for iOS devices so you could use the same word processor on both machines.
But if you convert the Word to PDF and then use GR you can still edit the files...GR will edit and annotated PDF files rather easily. -

thanksWhen you open a Word document in Pages, it is translated into the internal .pages document format — and you are no longer working in the original Word document format. This translation also occurs in reverse when exporting a document back to Word. When you open a Word document in Pages, if it has issues with the translation (missing font characteristics, other issues), it will open a warning dialog box and display these issues for you.
If however, you prefer to always work in the native Word document format, and not risk translation issues, then you should be using MS Word in Office for Mac 2011 with the latest update. -
I cannot send a Pages document, Word via email if the doc contains a picture. If I email a Pages doc without a pic in Word format or pdf with a pic it with go through to sender? Not sure why Pages won't send Word doc with a picture in it. I check the security on the email recipient and the email doesn't get blocked or throw in the junk box?

drainguy41If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion, Save As… has returned to the File menu when you hold down the Option/alt key. But you don't really "save" as other file types, you translate & export as Word or RTF or text or PDF & that is easily done by going to File > Export or Share > Export.
Also, please do us all a favor & don't use all capitals in your posts, either the body of the post or the title. All caps is the internet equivalent of shouting & is very hard to read. -

I teach Continuing education classes to Real Estate agents and I need to issue them certificates at the class, whihc need to be signed by me and it needs to contain their info on the certificate. The certificate is currently saved in a word format.What i'm trying to accomplish is to do a "mail merge " ( as some classes i have as many as 150 attendees) for the document, digitally sign each one with my signature on the certificate and then e-mail it out to the respective attendees. can this be done? if so How?
This is the step that I took after inputting my signature.
On the right, after saving my document, I click "Get Others to Sign." I was confused because it says that it's powered by EchoSign. Like I stated before, my clients are able to sign this document when I send it to them, but it is returned to me with their signature (not in the signature field, but at the end of the document), and my signature is missing. I tested this on myself - my signature is missing when they receive it. -

Pages doesn't save to Word it Exports to Word .doc so there should be a .pages copy on your Mac.

What video format is best for video quality?
Would anyone care to comment on what video format is recommended to achieve the best video quality in Encore when burning to a 25 GB Blu-ray disc? I have the choice of saving my HD video that will be imported into Premier Pro CS4 (and then sent to Encore CS4) in .mp4, .mt2s or .ts and I'm not sure which one will give me the best results. Is the word count in Pages inclusive of footnotes?
Sounds like you have a lot of counting to do. Lol jk; I'd test with a new doc with 5 words and see which one gets it right. if they're the same; add footnotes to one and see which one says what. Just standard process of elimination.
