What worked to find my backup encryption password that I didn't set!

As so many are dealing with, went to set-up new iphone 5 from my iphone 4 backup that was very important to me. I got the dreaded backup password hault. I tried everything! Different pc didn't work, nothing but a circle of nothing without that password! I DID NOT set a password, and don't care what anyone says, I'm 100% sure I didn't!! It is a glitch! If you ever do one backup without being sure the encryption box is unchecked on the summary page that comes up after clicking on your device name in the side list of iTunes, you are stuck! If you didn't purposely check it and pick your password, it somehow randomly picks one from somewhere that relates to you. I know it seems as tho that isn't possible for program to assign a random password that just so happens to relate to you, but it does. I've set many of passwords in my life, and have NEVER/would ever use that one!  I've never had this problem previously! After getting an official nothing can be done from all levels of Apple support, I took advice on forums of using the elcomsoft software. I read that the free trial gives you the first 2 letters. So, I downloaded the free trial of elcomsoft. It took just few minutes to download, it was super easy. You open the software, choose backup, pick your backup from the list (it will show with a lock beside it), then whatever button tells it to go (don't remember what button said but its dummy proof). About halfway thru, it showed "li..". Four character starting with li, well that was obviously my name "lila". I didn't even run it all the way to verify if it gives you more than 1st two letters. That was it!! I tried everything I could imagine including window login and lock screen code for many hours before that with no luck. My whole family uses basically same password for everything with some variation if they require a capital or character. So, I know I didn't set it as that. So, try the free trial of elcomsoft!!

Are you trying to restore from an encrypted backup or are you trying to make an encrypted backup?
If the backup you are trying to restore from is encrypted, you will have no choice but to restore to factory settings instead.

  • Forgot backup encrypt password!

I'm running Windows 7 and i transferring my information from my iphone to my samsung s4. The easy sync app has asked me to remove the backup encryption password. I have forgotten my password is there any way of finding out what my password is?

If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you can use a SmartKey iTunes Backup Password Recovery to unlock iTunes backup password at first. Check out http://www.recoverlostpassword.com/products/itunes-backup-password-recovery.html for more details.

  • About the iPod backup encryption password

I just updated my iOS (from 4.2 to 6.0) and let the iPod store my backup information on my computer, encrypted. Like surely many before me, I do not know what the password is to get my encrypted data back. I don't remember ever entering a password for this. In several other inquiries online, people claim they never set a password. But I know I am forgetful and people can be presumptive, SO:
Can anyone share with me some information on WHEN or WHETHER this password is saved? When it is saved, does it say specifically that you're setting a password for the backup thing? (If not, what is the form where you enter the new password that will become the backup encryption password?) Is this only a practice implemented from a certain iPod/iPhone generation onward; would someone who purchased a 4th-gen iPod touch not be initially asked to create this password and someone from a year later be asked? Lastly, if in fact those inquiries I mentioned are correct, does Apple just scour your iPod for a password it can use for this purpose, and if so, is there any pattern at all to this that I can use to figure out my password?
Thanks for reading (and for answering? ),

When you select "Encrypt ... backup" you get this dialog:
The password can be added to the keychain, however, the password may have been one-way encrypted and is not retrivable.

  • I have forgotten my backup encryption password

I am getting a new iPhone soon so I wanted to backup my current iPhone to iTunes on my computer.
However I have forgotten the backup encryption password so I deleted all the backups on iTunes, hoping that it would allow me to reset the backups without the encryption. Is it possible to remove the encyrption without deleting my iTunes? I would like to create a backup from scratch without removing music and videos saved on my iTunes. Help?

Check your iKeychain.  The password may be listed there.  Mine was listed under an IP address and user name to my old work computer.  I had used my phone to access work emails (government) that were encrypted.  I didn't actually select the option to encrypt my backup itself but it did require a password when I went to restore.  The password ended up being one I set up when I set up my email account to my phone and viewed those emails, not one I actually set for iTunes directly related to the backup.  Once in iKeychain (Safari, Passwords & Autofill) I was able to view a list of all passwords ever used on my phone and had every intention of trying every single password one by one, but it ended up being the first one listed. Hopefully this helps.

  • I forgot the backup encryption password in iTunes how can I get my backup data back?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

Have you encrypted the backups files from your iPad? If so, that is likely the password needed.

  • I've forgotten my backup encryption password

Please help me. I must have added a password for my backup encryption on iTunes years ago and now have no idea what it is. I have tried everything I would have thought it was but none work. I upgraded my iPhone 4S' software to iOS7 yesterday but theres something wrong and the final bootup stops halfway and hangs. I wanted to restore from backup but don't know the password. It gets worse as my iPhone 5C arrives today and I'm guessing I'll need this password to setup the new phone with all my data.
    Please can you help?
    thank you

No way that iknow of.  The Apple acticle is very clear:
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you will have to do a full software restore and when prompted by iTunes to select the backup to restore from, choose Set up as a new device.

  • HT201210 what can i do to reset my password that i have forgotten??

What can I do to reset my password on my ipod touch. Ive forgotten my password

If we are talking the passcode when it starts...
You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the Device.
    Instructions can be found here.

  • HT5625 multiple apple id's and icloud has one saved that i didn't set up... but it is my email i use daily, but my apple id pass wont email or work

I have an iphone 4 and have just installed the new ios. so my apple id for "icloud" is my email with gmail, but i can't remember my password for that apple id. I have requested it to be reset but it hasn't emailed me anything to reset it. It says to check one of my old email accounts (school email address), but when i check it I don't have any new emails from apple there either...? My itunes apple id on my phone (different apple id) does work and that is the one i'm using to post this request for help. I can't even delete the apple id that my phone says is my "icloud" apple id because that also requires that i know the password for id that i didn't even set up (gmail email address). i did link my gmail email address to my apple id a while back, but now it has come back to haunt me. anyone know anything about how to consolidate these id's and make just one? i need help! i can't use icloud at all until this is resolved... thanks for any help that you can provide!

Apple strongly recommends that each user have a password. If you never set one up, log into your account, and reset it. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274 for details.

  • Is there a way to recover my backup encryption password?

I made a password for the backup a while ago. The problem is, I forgot it, and I didn't have it written down anywhere. If someone can help, please do.

Nevermind. I just remembered what it was. You can still answer the question if you want, but I don't need it anymore.

  • Trying restore my phone after the update and it's asking for a backup file password that I don't know.  Please help!

After installing the latest update from apple my iPhone 4 will not complete the restore process with out a backup password.  I don't recall ever setting up a backup password and there is no help button if you can't find the password.  Apparently I'll loose all my data and have to set the phone up as a new phone.  This is very frustrating.

  • By mistake I have changed the password using iChain but the website still utilises the old password that iChain originally created. How can I find out the original password that was created?

I created a password using iChain whilst on a website where I have an account. For some reason, I needed to change the password and it seems that the website can only be accessed using the original chain password. I do not have a record of it and it is not in my iChain password list. Can I find what historical passwords were used?
