What would be best for me?

So I'm heading off to college next year to become a teacher, and I'm trying to figure out what would be the best for me:
A Macbook or a Macbook Air?
Obviously, it's going to be used for school work mostly.
I want it to be a very fast computer, but still have a nice display. I don't actually care if the laptop is bulky or awkward to carry.
Recommendations please!
Thank You!

Get a MacBook Pro 15". Neither a MacBook nor an Air have the power, speed, quality, display of a MBP 15". They are only 2 pounds heavier than a MB. And, don't waste your time on a 13" MBP.

  • What would be best for special effects?

I am a frequent user of iMovie 4 and often create home movies. However, the iMovie provides very few and very primitive effects. What would be the best software for me to aquire new creative special effects (e.g. flames, explosions, etc.) If anyone can recommend the best product for my needs I would appreciate it.

  • I have a new (mid) 2011 imac and want to transfer my old records to itunes but i dont know what usb turntable would be best for a new mac that would have compatible software for ripping to itunes?

i have a mid 2011 i5 imac and i want to transfer my vinyl records to itunes but i dont know what usb turntable would be best for my imac that has compatible software for transfer to itunes

    Hallo,
I use an Akai usb turntable with the Audacity sw delivered with it. To monitor during recording I also use the LineIn utility (all this on a Macbook Pro with Mavericks).
It works fine, only the input volume of the usb audio port cannot be adjusted (at least I did not yet discover how to do it) and the volume of the music is lower than other music imported into iTunes from CD or iTunes store, but still acceptable.

  • What would the best iPod for me be?

Ok, so I apologize if this is a little off topic or something.
    I am a 15 year old, 10th grade American.
I currently have a shuffle, which I hate.
I only have about 300 songs in my iTunes library, but I'm working pretty hard on building up my music collection.
I have 200$ that I can easily spend.
What iPod do you guys think would be best for me?
I like the new nano 4th generation--would that be good? and if so, 8GB or 16GB?
I would want this iPod to last me at least until college, but probably longer.
    What are your opinions?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Well, since you are fifteen and wish to use this iPod until you enter college, which iPod you purchase depends on your needs.
One, since an iPod can be enabled for hard disk use to save text to, you could save files for school on it as well as music. Since the iTunes songs can be as large small as 3MB and as large as 10MB, add on video files and that takes up storage fast. I'd go for the 16GB, especially since you mentioned you'd like to add to your iTunes Library.
If you take good care of an iPod, it will take good care of you. I have a 2nd generation iPod (6rs old) and still running the original battery)... The iPod Nano 16GB holds 4,000 songs/16 hours of video and FREE shipping on orders over $50.00... sounds like a winner to me but get all the advice you can.

  • Need help deciding what computer is best for me?

I am 14 years old and going into high school. I am debating whether to buy the new macbook or take my grandpa's original macbook air. I want to take programing/coding and graphic design classes, so I wanted to know which computer would be best for me?  I like the macbook air for how like and easy it is to carry with me to and from school, but I'm not sure if it would be more beneficial to have the newer technology of the macbook?  Any help or input would be great!  Thanks

Can the money you don't spend now on a new computer be put aside to buy you a new computer at a later date? That is the key question. The trick with the Air is to avoid using up the harddrive, so the less stuff you have to put on it (games, movies), the better. Other than that, it should be able to do all you want it to do...for now. And given how much you poor students have to haul around in your backpacks , I think it's smart to go for Grandpa's Air and save yourself from hauling around nearly three extra pounds.
The Air is there and, I assume, it's going to be given to you at a good price ? Use it and see if it does all you need and want it to do. If you find it's too limiting, the Macbook Pros will still be there for you to get. What's more, if you hold off now, then as you near college--or where ever you're going after high school, you can use the money you didn't spend now for something that might be really excellent for your future in coding and graphics.
If it's feasible, I'd try out the Air for the summer and see if it's for you. The school specials on computers will be going for a while if you find it's not enough and you need more.

  • What would be best approach to migrate millions of records from on premise SQL server to Azure SQL DB?

    Team,
In our project, we have a requirement of data migration. We have following scenario and I really appreciate any suggestion from you all on implementation part of it.
    Scenario:
We have millions of records to be migrated to destination SQL database after some transformation.
The source SQL server is on premise in partners domain and destination server is in Azure.
Can you please suggest what would be best approach to do so.
    thanks,
    Bishnu
    Bishnupriya Pradhan

You can use SSIS itself for this
Have a batch logic which will identify data batches within source and then include data flow tasks to do the data transfer to Azure. The batch size chosen should be as per buffer meory availability + parallel tasks executing etc.
You can use ODBC or ADO .NET connection to connect to azure.

  • What printer is best for me

I have always had a canon printer.  I loved my first three but I have been very disappointed in the last one I bought, a pixma MG6120.  I'm not crazy about having the extra gray ink cartridge and the ink in the rest of my cartridges just evaporate over night it seems. I rarely print as much as I use to with all my children gone, except for the occassional email or coupons. Primarily I print invitations and envelopes and graphic designs to use around the house or to give to people.  I'm always disappointed in how the design looks on my monitor and how it prints, especially reds and greens. I also print on transparency paper and waterproof permanet vinyl. I do like to print the occassional pictures but lately I've been getting such good prints from Costco it's not worth the ink to print them in my home. I also scan alot, but I guess I could just keep the printer I have to do that, if there is just a regular printer that would work for me.  So my wants are a good printer that will print exceptional invitations on cardstock with brilliant colors and then the occassional photograph and the ink not evaporate over night.  Thanks so much for any suggest for a printer that would be best for me.  Thanks Gaye

The Pixma MG6120, what you have is a very good capable printer.  I would just see if I could get it to do what you want before you buy a different one.  You must decide if this printer has some features you don't want ot need.  For instance this printer is optimised to print high quality B&W.  Something most printers can not do.  Hence the extra cartridge.  If this is not of importance to, you may want to look at a printer that doesn't have this feature. Otherwise, ....................It is essential you get some settings on your monitor that somewhat matches what the printer is printing.  Your printer may be doing exactly what you are telling it to do and you have no idea it is, because your monitor is so far off.  If you don't do this step, you can forget it.  However, there are only a few things that you need to be concerned with. You don't need any fancy extra add-ins to do this.  No additional software or gadgets, no spiders or monkeys, etc. But you must get the gray-scale very close.  You need to get the brightness very close and you need the contrast very close.  Most folks set there brightness way too high by default. This presents a big problem when judging prints. You need to judge your prints in good light, preferably daylight. Again they may be correct and you don't know it.  After you do these things you can make adjustments to your prints by just looking at your screen.  Because you know the monitor and printer are on the same level.  One more point, you can NOT get a printer to print every color exactly the way you saw it.  It isn't possible as all colors and adjustments effect all others.  My goal is to get the skin tones right.  That is what people notice most. Remember you are dealing with two different disciplines here. One is colored light and the other is colored dyes.  They are not the same thing. In the end no printer is the best at everything.  It is just too cpmplex.

  • Which imac would work best for Graphic Design?

I am a Graphic Designer, currently using Creative Suite 2 (soon to be upgraded to CS3) and I need a new Mac for home. A Powermac takes up too much space, so I'm thinking about an imac with a 24" monitor and I have a few questions for the experts:)
Which imac would work best for graphics?
Is the monitor acurate for Pantone color matching?
Is the 24"monitor on the imac clear and bright?
    Is Leopard a stable OS?
I also need an (inexpensive) color laser printer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks a bunch!
Suzi (Machead since the beginning of Mac history)

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The 24" iMac uses a superior LCD panel to the 20" model and so is certainly better suited to your purposes. I don't know how badly having a piece of glass in front of the display would affect you as a designer though.
The display certainly is clear and bright. I use it on it's lowest brightness setting.
Leopard is stable but it's worth checking that drivers for any devices that you currently rely on are available. For example I have to go back to my 10.4.11 iMac G4 to use my scanner. Personally I can't get iCal to alarm in Leopard but that's a fairly minor gripe.
As this is the forum for much older iMacs I'd suggest re-posting in the Intel iMac forum and even Mac OS 10.5 Printing forums for better informed opinion:

    Hello,
I'll buy a Mac soon and i'm confused as to macbook pro or macbook air ... i'm in college now and work with Photoshop and 3D max .. make some short movie .. So what's the best for me ?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air forums. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

If your info is correct you need to first buy Snow Leopard from the Apple on-line store ($20) install and update to 10.6.8 and then buy Lion from the App Store for $20.
